Ooooops they did it again. Management suggested I call and confirm my order next time I make it on their website and pay through their provider Toast because the kitchen didn't receive my order. He offered to start it now, but deep dish pizza is +10 minutes based on their website. I told him this happened before in 2016 and I didn't order again for about 6 years. (I have had 2 successful orders last year) I asked for delivery. The answer was I can't do that. I looked up my 2016 review ,walked back showed it to him. He said there was nothing more he could do. I suggested he comp the food next time but it won't be me. I will never ever ever return. Extra Star for batting 50% on my last 4 orders. Love the pizza. We were celebrating my birthday. Outstanding customer service! Being from Chicago one of our favorite places in the Sacramento area is Chicago fire. Their Tavern style pizza or thin crust is just like back home. We didn't check the menu as closely as we should have and wound up ordering what we thought was a large. Sizes have changed and the size that we wanted was the old large which which they now call the extra large. Normally we order large size so we can take it home and have it a couple more times especially during the winter. We asked Mike the manager about it and he was so nice and I just want to point out that it's so hard to find great customer service but Mike exhibited it tonight. It matched the wonderful pizza. We took our adult son (on his first visit to Chicago Fire) to celebrate his recent move for dinner on a Sunday night. It was not very busy and quite low key. We inquired about the dinner for 2 with a gluten free pizza bc my husband has Celiac. The waitress said we could do that while my son ordered a personal size pizza. The waitress was not very friendly and seemed like she'd rather be somewhere else that night. We ate our food bc we were very hungry from moving all day but we all agreed it was somewhat bland and needed more flavor. When the check came my husband noticed we were individually charged for every item in the "dinner for two" special. (And there was a $5 fee for gluten free crust!) He motioned for the waitress to come to our table. As she approached our table she said "I forgot to include the dinner for 2 special" BEFORE he pointed it out to her. This made us think she knew EXACTLY what she did and was probably hoping we didn't notice. (Grrr ) She came back with a modified bill and my husband noticed it included a "recommended 15% tip" on $95 CHARGE, which was NO WHERE NEAR OUR TOTAL. This made us think they probably do that hoping people just read the tip % number and pay it WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE TOTAL BILL...We all felt as if there was blatant deception going on and we will not be returning again. read more

This place used to be sooo good to me a few years ago, now it's mediocre to me. This was my first time at this location since the one in Elk Grove closed down. The service was good, I was instantly greeted as I walked through the door. Our food came out pretty quickly as the restaurant was pretty empty. I got a blackened shrimp caeser salad (I know, odd to get at pizza spot). The salad was drenched in dressing to the point the lettuce was soggy. I ate most of the shrimp and left everything else. And it could've used a few more minutes in the oven as even the dough was chewy and not fully cooked. Don't get me wrong - we ate it and it tasted good. Came here for a recent wedding rehearsal dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The strange thing is that I was thinking that the deep dish would be the highlight, you know, with Chicago in the name of the place. It was good but not the star. The salads were delish and the other pizza and pasta tasty--the real highlight is the boneless chicken wings. The waiter brought plate after plate and the spicy one in blue cheese, oh baby, crispy tongue burning goodness! The garlic one was equally delish. If in Sac, I would surely try the place again. Excitement of spending time with special people was met with a food experience that no one should have. Chicago Fire isn't what it used to be. It used to be a fun date spot, cool for hanging with friends, and even worked for an evening night out with family. It's not. We all went for a late lunch/early dinner. The restaurant wasn't busy, and yet we were made to wait 15 minutes before we were seated. When we were seated, the seating hostess offered us a table that was far too small for our group. Once we were seated at a more comfortable table, the waitress came over to take our order in a matter of minutes. We all needed time to read the menu. She hovered. A few of us had questions about a few items. The waitress wasn't very helpful, and when she offered to go check with the kitchen, then didn't return to the table. I ended up sharing a pizza with someone. I substituted beef for the pork. I had asked if the beef was ground, and was told yes. What we received was a pizza with beef strips. The meat tasted like it was freezer burnt, the sauce was nonexistent, the tomatoes were bitter, the cheese tasted like it had been frozen and reheated. It was just gross and inedible. The waitress never came over to ask about the food, mostly because she was busy chatting with coworkers. Our drink glasses remained empty. We had already ordered cupcakes. We had been told that the cupcakes are delicious. Do not order them. They were as bad as the pizza, if not worse. Salted caramel tasted like one would think salted feet would taste like. Parking can be hard if you go during a busy time of day/night. We've been eating at Chicago Fire for years. It's good food. You can't go wrong by coming here. My husband loves the deep dish. And I love the traditional. Both pizzas are delicious and full of flavor. This time we got the artichoke, wings, and a sandwich. The artichoke comes with Parmesan cheese and some type of Caesar dressing baked on it. Sooo good!! The wings are good, nothing over the top special, but they are worth getting every time we come here. The Italian sandwich is good too, but we're gonna stick to the pizza artichoke and wings in the future. Never had an issue with the staff since we usually do take-out. Came here for happy hour while walking around downtown. There weren't 2 seats at the bar, so the hostess said we could eat in the dining area and still get the happy hour deals (this was a good compromise and we were grateful, but we did want to watch the tvs and be away from the birthday party). I would suggest getting there early to get a seat. Ordered 2 deep dish pizzas ($5 each, pepperoni and combination) and buffalo wings ($9 for 8). Pizza: both were fantastic! The sauce seeps into the dough nicely. I eat the middle and then dip the crust in ranch. Wings: I'm no expert on wings, but the bf loved them. I like that they are very meaty (I don't want to work too hard for my food). You get 8 wings for $9 which is unheard of right now. We also had 3 happy hour drinks. Food and drinks are always solid, but this review is specifically to highlight the incredible service of Shannon, one of the servers. We were seated at a two-top in the last 45 minutes of happy hour during a busy night (the first 49ers game of the season.) We were sitting at our table for 15 minutes, and no one had checked in on us or even brought us waters, when Shannon noticed us and offered to get our order in before happy hour ended, even though she wasn't our server. We arrived at 5pm and was seated immediately. However, the ambience was nice until a huge party (50+ patrons) overtook the restaurant - hey it happens right? So how was the service? very good. Nick our wait staff was very cordial/friendly/helpful during our entire dining experience. so how was the food? drum roll. 1) combo pizza: very tasty, toppings were plenty, and our dining companion was very happy 2) deep dish pizza: very cheesy, filled with sausage and enough anchovies that with each bite contain those wonderful morsels- just needed more mushrooms. but the flavor was nice and I enjoyed every bite 2a) abe froman deep dish: another winner 3) pear salad: just ok, the greens were a little wilted 4) trio meatballs: very very good- very meaty 5) spaghetti/meatballs: again, great meatballs, tasty bolognese, and spaghetti cooked al dente- perfect 6) chicken parmesan sandwhich: winner winner winner 7) meatball sandwich: again can't go wrong with their meatballs So why not 5 stars? How would a patron know that? Or why even have that restriction? The location is great. It's right on J street in the middle of downtown. They have a private lot(ish) and there is a lot of street parking if you are able to get an open spot. The ambiance is nice. They play some rocky-blues music. The walls have exposed brick and paintings of buildings on the walls. Rustic furniture adorns the restaurant. Our server Andy was friendly. He refilled our drinks almost instantaneously. I don't think think he could have given better customer service. Extra star earned on his performance alone. The grilled pear salad was a very unique taste. The vinaigrette is a little bitter but good nonetheless. The walnuts in it were very sweet and delicious. The focaccia bread that comes on the side was reminiscent of corn bread except if it tasted like pizza crust, very good to say the least. The side of marinara sauce was to die for. Extra star earned just for this sauce. Honestly, you should come here just to get this sauce. Our main dish was the deep dish pizza. Lemme start off first by saying it isn't your traditional pizza. They don't use the normal pizza dough that you are used to, they use the a crust similar to focaccia bread. The deep dish is a real pie of a pizza. This leads to the "bread" being a little soggy if you get a lot of toppings and it falls apart easily. It's messy to eat and you will need a fork and knife to eat successfully. I wish it was more of the traditional dough. It probably has more cheese than any other ingredient, like 80% cheese and 20% pizza. The deep dish pizzas also take about 30 minutes to come out so be warned if you are extra hungry. The mushrooms they used were phenomenal. The flavor overall of the pizza was great. All that was needed for the extra star to become 5 stars from me is less cheese on the pizza and a different crust. The prices are actually pretty reasonable for the serving size and quality of food you are getting. The large deep dish will leave you so full you probably won't eat for the rest of the day. You should be able to walk out of here under $40 for a dinner for two. Bottom Line/TLDR: great service and amazing marinara sauce. read more
