I am honestly a little surprised this place doesn't have better reviews. Maybe it's because I'm from Los Angeles living in Houston and I don't know anything about how good Chicago pizza is supposed to be? My husband and I came here late one night after a Second City show and didn't want to stand in line at Pequod's for 75 minutes. This place was empty but we were thoroughly impressed. We got the cheezy garlic bread, a slice of thin crust pepperoni and small deep dish cheese and Chicago Supreme. We were in heaven. It was a vast improvement over the last pizza establishment we tried when we were in Chicago which I won't name but it's a popular chain. Terrible experience. A few days ago I ordered a pizza. I ordered half sausage for myself and half mushroom, spinach, and chicken for my partner who is a MUSLIM and does not eat PORK. When the pizza arrived, when visually looking at it, it looked like half had spinach on it and the other half didn't. So I ate a piece that didn't have spinach and my partner ate a piece with the spinach on it. Well, Chicagos pizza messed up the order and made it 1/2 sausage and spinach and the other half chicken and mushroom. We were both shocked. I called Chicagos pizza and let them know about the situation. The owner fought me on it. He said the only way he would give me a refund is if I took a picture of it and sent it to him so he could show it to the workers. Do I work for Chicagos Pizza? After arguing and yelling, he finally agreed to give me a refund. Not only was the pizza bad (tasted stale) but the treatment by the owner/manager was the worst I've encountered in a long time. Four years of living in the neighborhood it took me to try Chicago's Pizza, and I'm sorry for it. After a couple of disappointing experiences with some of our usual favorites, we were looking for other options, and now I understand that Chicago's should have been in the rotation all along. No particular element stands out; it's just an all-around very solid deep-dish pie. I imagine that here on Montrose they compete directly with the nearby Giordano's, but there is room for all. Chicago's deep dish reminds me more of Malnati's, with a yellowish, denser crust and a chunky tomato sauce. My only specific criticism of Chciago's is that the sauce is a bit bland. Otherwise, this is a reliably good pie. Surprisingly, they also sell stuffed style, which they do quite differently from their deep dish. It is dense, both in flavor and composition. I really like their stuffed pizza too. Two for two. How about thin crust? Sold by the slice, this variety is skippable. Not only is there too much cheese, they don't do this stuff any favors by letting it sit in a warming display case for who knows how many hours. I prefer a slice shop that lets the goods sit at room temperature, then reheats them in the oven for a couple of minutes. Maybe the fresh whole pies are better, but would still have too much cheese. And on top of all that, they even sell calzones. (Basically every format of cheese, sauce, and crust is covered here.) The calzone is okay, but I probably wouldn't get it again. Three specific criticisms: 1.) all of the pepperoni was clumped together into one quadrant; that may have been a one-time mistake, but also 2.) there was too much cheese and 3.) not enough sauce, plus they don't provide a little cup of side sauce. So if they reduced the cheese by 25% and increased the sauce by the same proportion, this would be a really solid calzone. So anyway, skip the thin crust and calzones, and eat deep-dish or stuffed instead. Both are delicious. Chicago's Pizza is really a 3.5, but I'm going to round up for being such a pleasant belated surprise entry into our Sunday night pizza routine. read more

Called and the order taker admitted hearing the order wrong but did not apologize. Chicago's delivered pizza to me at the new house, right before I passed out from hunger/exhaustion. Yay for good timing! The pizza was pretty delicious, though for a supposed "thin crust", it was actually rather thick, more like a pan pizza crust - thin-crust-o-philes, take note. We had a medium Chef's Special with spicy Italian sausage, pepperoni, and mushroom. It was even better cold, eaten out of the fridge, the next morning. I also really enjoyed the buffalo chicken tenders with chunky blue cheese sauce. I was so hungry, I might have swallowed them whole. Buffalo sauce + blue cheese. Where can you go wrong? Oh, they make you pay for the blue cheese (75c for 2 pretty large dipping cups) which is a little bit odd. Odd, but not bad. The bad? The garlic bread. It was dry and not very garlicky. Still, I didn't die from hunger (yay!) and they even deliver either a complimentary 1/2L Diet Coke or 6-pack of DC cans with certain amounts in your order.
