10/10 I grew up on Gigios back when I lived in Uptown. When I am in the neighborhood I sometimes buy a pizza and head by Montrose Beach and then look at the Chicago Skyline. My pops used to take us as kids to hang out at the lake front; I now once in a while take my children to do the same. When I go to Gigios I feel like I'm in New York City lol . This patch of Broadway is about the closest Chicago gets to looking like the Bronx. Characters go in, they come out. The lady managing the counter was definitely a type. You be polite, and she'll be polite. It's a no-nonsense, no frills kind of place. They have a couple of specials: Two slices and a can of pop or one slice & fries and a can of pop. Gigio's brings me back to New York with its pizza and vibe. Prices are reasonable and quality is just what you'd expect from a low key pizza spot. Dining area is minimal. This is more of a to go spot, and service is friendlier than your typical NYer. They'll ask if you want your pizza cut in squares or slices. You better choose the latter. Pizza comes with lots of cheese, a sweet sauce, and crust is the right balance of sturdy and foldable. Getting a bigger pie will give you the crust you're looking for. Growing up in Evanston, the original Gigio's was a staple! My friends and I all hung out there and loved the slices and various other menu items but I'd never been to this location. Yesterday I was picking my daughter up from her hair appt down the street and I parked right in front of Gigio's. Wondering if it was the same as Evanston and hungry from not having lunch, I decided to try it. I found their online ordering and a deal for 2 slices and a drink for $8. Came highly recommended by my brother-in-law, even went so far as to order two extra large half cheese half sausage unbaked, frozen, to bring with me on a plane to North Carolina, as he could only think of one thing he wanted from Chicago, and that was his Gigio's pizza. Simple menu, family owned, and certainly has created a lot of memories for people all over the city. New York City style, Can order a whole pie or just a slice to go. Gigios is actually pretty good pizza, and always consistent, you know it's going to be the exact same every time. Unfortunately, the delivery person is consistently awful. The pizza is routinely late, and the driver acts like you should meet him halfway, or something. Last pizza I got was cold af, like, not even slightly warm. I don't even live that far, so bro had to be seriously fucking around to be 40 minutes late. Yesterday, after a fun day out with my girlfriends, I wanted to share a positive review of this amazing pizzeria. The staff was friendly and efficient, particularly the kind girl who works there and informed me that their pizza is authentically New York-style. I tried a slice of sausage pizza and some fries, which arrived fresh and hot. The pizza was delicious and the fries were also fresh. The pizzeria seemed popular and busy, which is a testament to their great food and service. The food is not the issue. The issue is the lack of professionalism and customer service. Multiple times I've ordered online 35-40 minutes ahead; only to be told, well we don't work for grubhub or beyond menu; not our fault it wasn't prepared. Tonight was the same thing. They really have some work they need to do here. You guys are diagonally across from the Green Mill so you'd think you'd have this figured out by now that late night guests looking for munchies after their time at the Jazz Bar might end up at your establishment. We ordered pizza inside around midnight or so, as they were one of the few options open late within a close walking distance. I asked the lady for a receipt, and she couldn't give me one for some reason. It seemed overpriced for just a large pepperoni pizza. Just like others, we waited for a loooong time to receive our food. There were people walking in for take out and complaining how long it was taking. Maybe it was just a bad night or they were understaffed, but it was awful. What made it worse was how they handled it. One of the staff from the kitchen brought out our pizza and I kid you not, you could have counted the pepperoni on one hand on this entire pizza. I told the guy and he seemed like he didn't really understand me, and then ended up bringing out just one slice of a pepperoni pizza just for me as if that made up for the entire thing. Mind you, this slice was like cold and was clearly sitting out. We saw another person explaining to them that it took over 50 minutes for their pizza when they were told it was half of that. The manager (I'm assuming) got a bit verbally defensive with her and overall it was just a messy night. With the amount of great pizza there is in Chicago, I don't think I'd return, but this really is just a fair warning for anyone nearby in the immediate area who wants late night pizza. read more

Sorry Gigio's Pizza but I continue to find the pizza scene in Chicago lacking. Details: We ordered a pepperoni XL pizza for delivery- It arrived fast and friendly; price was great for an xl pizza. Pizza sauce was okay and the cheese was tasty. I didn't like that the pepperoni was under the cheese - I like crispy pepperoni, like the rest of the world. Whether you have been here for a short-time, long-time, or a life-time, this is a restaurant that will give you a taste of thin-slice home! While only drawing three-n-a-little from fellow reviewers, I give it a full five-stars for taste, authenticity, and presentation. While I honestly can't claim to know what you might like in pizza (I'm from Nebraska, ask me about steaks!), I can't help but think this is worth your while. There are seats for circa 15-18 but if the weather is nice, take your slice outside! The service was quick, the add-on's flavorful & fresh, and the crust nothing short of outstanding! I think the prices are about $0.75 - $1.00 too high per slice and the RC cola needs to be replaced, maybe sugar cane Coke, or those Jalisco (?) fruit sodas from Mexico. However, while the interior isn't much to rave about, the folks behind the counter are friendly & nice. And, of course, the pizza is fantastic! Super delicious pizza in Uptown. I walked by the other day on my way to the train and had to stop in because the prices were super affordable. I paid $14 for a 14 inch pepperoni pizza. Employees are all really friendly and there's plenty of places to sit inside. The pizza itself was thin crust and really amazing. I was hauling it up the LSD when I got the notion for a late bite. A quick scan of nearby slices brought up this place. Gigio's is one of a few pizza joints open late night with slices and more. Based on reviews, it said slices are NY style. I ended up with a sausage & pepperoni. While ordering I saw a guy savoring his hand cut fries, so I had to have one also. He added gooey cheese, which I opted not to. Two slices and the fries put me back close to $9.60 with tax. How was it? Salty. I couldn't eat the pepperoni. I ate around the meat. The sausage was salty also, but bearable. I doubt I'd ever return for pizza, other items.. definitely maybe. The stars are for their fries. Though I wasn't impressed, I know a few pizza fans that would love this pie. read more
