The chicken is nice and juicy. The decor is great. I didn't like the fries nor the broasted potatoes the chicken nuggets are amazing!! (actual pieces of chicken in nugget form and not some processed stuff you get elsewhere) This place has some good food at decent price. As mentioned this place is always packed or busy so take that into account. If i lived in the area i would get some chicken box every now and then. read more

I love Chicken Box! It's clearly a La Habra institution and a tradition for many people - especially on Mondays, when the line is practically out the door for the special, which is $11.99 for 10 pieces of chicken and potatoes (broasted or french fries...you can upgrade to some pretty darn tasty mashed potatoes and gravy for a dollar more). Like everyone else has said, calling your order in really is the way to go here. I wasn't sure what I was doing since it was my first time, so I opted not to and regretted it. Luckily, I didn't have to wait as long as they said I would. Also, like others have said, it's really best to get your food to go, but they do have two small tables on their little patio out front. I'm just not sure I would want everyone who entered to front door to see what a mess I was making with my chicken! They have a great lunch special on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and are closed on Wednesdays. They also have many side dishes that sound very tasty (haven't had a chance to try them yet, but hope to soon!), such as macaroni salad, fried zucchini, and homemade chicken noodle soup. This is some pretty decent chicken. For folks who don't know, broasted chicken is fried under a high pressure cooker. It makes the skin incredibly crisp and cooks the chicken quickly reducing oil absorption with minimal breading. The recipe here is good...crispy skin, seasoned well, moist and well-cooked chicken. Bonus for non-greasy chicken! If the kitchen is backed up, a wait can occur so it's best to call ahead. When you arrive for pick up, it will be thoughtfully wrapped with plenty of vents to help keep the chicken crisp. I remove all the foil to help keep everything crispy...leaving the foil will run the risk of soggy chicken skin. We also tried the broasted potatoes...fried potato wedges. They are likely cooked in the same oil as the chicken so vegetarians and vegans beware. The mashed potatoes and gravy are supposedly home made, but I can't tell with the potatoes...they are puréed thoroughly and lack flavor by themselves. The gravy is okay with lots of pepper and bits of chicken. Multi-side family meals come with Hawaiian rolls. If you like broasted chicken, this is a good option. read more

Hello there fellow chicken box-about to eat-ers! 4.5 stars for chicken..but then minus stars for weird other things and more... but anywaysss... I am about to make your life so much easier.. There is no chicken box menu anywhere except for at..CHICKEN BOX! and those pictures that are put up that..well..are hard to read when your checking yelp on your phone! so..I took a menu and I'm going to tell you all the exciting things they have on their menu besides the chicken, fries, and ribs that everyone talks about. They give you a large breast, one medium breast, and on small wing. one of my orders i got zucchini and onion rings..i must have gotton 5 zucchinis (yummy at that though.) and 5 onion rings. We had a craving for some good broasted chicken and decided to come here on a Saturday night on October 15th. I ordered the 4 piece meal and my mom ordered the 3 piece meal deal. The chicken is really moist and the skin is really crispy which I like. My two sides were mashed potatoes and macaroni salad and they were good. My only complaint is that it needed more flavor but I think that's what you give up when you get broasted chicken instead of fried chicken. Came here while we were waiting for bowling lanes to open up next door. I asked for recommendations, and the cashier said their broasted chicken is their most popular, so I went with the 2 piece combo. I am so glad I got it! The chicken tasted really good. I asked her what broasted chicken exactly was, and she said it is pressure fried, which makes the chicken less oily without all the fat and grease inside under the fried skin. It is definitely worth trying. The place is super small but cute, and there are surprisingly customers consistently coming in yet not crowded which is good. The food took pretty long to come out, so you should expect the wait (I would say we waited 10-15 mins). The coleslaw was tasty as well. First off, the Monday Special is no longer available. I need to put that out there first because that's how I ended up finding this place when I searched on the interwebs. This place is as Mom N' Pop as it gets when it comes to local eateries - Small chicken shop, really meant for take-out and not dine-in, only 2-3 tables outside where you can eat, prices are slightly higher than they should be (but still worth it IMO), not much parking, etc. I ordered the 4 chicken strip meal, which comes with 2 sides and a dinner roll for $10. There is a 4 chicken strip "snack" on the menu that comes with 1 side and no roll that's $3 cheaper. Honestly, the extra side and roll is not worth $3, but whatever, $10 for my meal was reasonable, and I felt full when I was finished. Chicken Strips - They are not uniform in size, and look like they were actually pulled off a chicken rather than being pooped out of a machine that takes all the leftover bits of chicken *cough, Mickey D's, cough*. Crispy, salty, but nothing mind-blowing. As the Chicken Connoisseur might say: "a bit lacking on the spices, rude boy". Taste is similar to Raising Cane's, but Raising Cane's gets my vote just because of the Caniac Sauce. These strips were pretty good, but nothing mind-blowing. Crinkle-cut fries - Slightly over-cooked (but some people prefer crispy fries to soggy). Slightly above avg. Fried Zucchini - Best fried zucchini is at Farmer Boys. These aren't even close. They are tiny, and the batter is thick, leaving them soggy on the inside, but still crispy on the outside. Not bad, but nothing to write home about. Dinner roll - Sweeter than most dinner rolls I've had, which was nice. Ranch dip - thick and tangy, I'm guessing of the buttermilk variety. So why the 4 stars if my review makes this place sound like a 3-star? Well, the service was good, meal came out in a reasonable amount of time, the food was fresh and enjoyable, and even if it should probably be $2 cheaper, I still felt reasonably full and didn't feel ripped off. I'll be back to check out the other items, but I think this place still warrants a visit if only to support a small local business when you're craving chicken. read more
