Chicken Chick is a Torrance gem. This small but excellent Persian restaurant is in a small strip mall. I wanted to give it 5 Stars, the food is worthy but the service drags it down. First the good. The juicy chicken is as advertised. Juicy, flavorful and definitely the specialty here. The plate comes with 1 kabob, which is enough for me, an ample portion of rice, and a side sald. The rice is excellent, pro tip, when they bring out the pita and butter, take a slab of butter and sit on it to soften while you wait for your rice. Then mix it in the rice for added flavor. The salad is nicely seasoned and a perfect complement to the plate. The hummus is a must. I'm not big on hummus but I always get it. Great flavor and texture with a bit of tang from the lemon juice. I only wish the pitas were home made. My buddy was in town and had the koobidah combo. Chicken and beef. Koobidah (sp?) is ground chicken or beef put in a kabob. Juicy and full of flavor. Now the bad. The service. Outside of Marlene, no one seems very friendly. No greeting, they dont check on you, I felt like I should call to ask for a water refill. The food was great! But never go with 6 or more to dine in!! Never ever!! My daughter recommended this place and we all went to dine in. Nice little place. Nice friendly people. Recommend what to eat (first time there) BUT!!! After we finished eating we got a bill. They charged up 18% for the service fee. So I figured the tip was included. I think it was little over $18 because it was over $100 just for food. So I told my wife that they already included tip because six people. Usually 8 or 10 plus people. Then usually they will charge group fees or service fees. The lady said we have to give tips. That 18% service fee is not the tip. It seems like they are double dipping on groups of six or more. And service fee is usually tip I thought. But not to them. We had to pay for tip plus service fee!! Never go with groups of 6 or more. And you have to tip on top of the service fees!!! read more

I was a big fan of the original Chicken Chick restaurant on Crenshaw and Redondo Beach Blvd and lamented the loss of the storefront. While searching for catering for a Noche Buena family gathering, I discovered Chicken Chick operating out of a ghost kitchen for catering. We wasted no time and ordered 3 trays of protein and more trays of salad. We were pleased with the results as the food was the same as before. Picked up lunch from this place and it was a huge hit with the group! I got the chicken kabobs and the juicy chicken. You pay just a $1 more to get rice AND a salad. Their basmalti rice was good! Salad was good, but the dressing was a bit too much on the tart/sour side for my husband's liking. So I think next time I"m gong to skip the salad and just get the rice. The owner(?)/young lady behind the register, I didn't get her name, was very sweet, promised me that it should be around 20 minutes, she was done around 15. A delightful visit! I originally deducted some stars two years ago because of slow service issues. Although, we waited a bit for our bill and needed to flag our server down at the end, their service had markedly improved. They still have fresh and delicious food here. I am enjoying their vegetarian options as I had the veggie plate, salad, and rice. On a week night, there were plenty of tables to choose from as we were the only customers there. They seemed to be busy with delivery orders though. I had a taste of the homemade lemonade and it was spot on. Pleased that they didn't add any sugar to it. How in the world does this place have a rating over 4 stars? First time here and last time too. The worst Mediterranean/Persian food I've ever had. The chicken kebab so dry I almost choked. The beef koobideh and chicken koobideh both dry and lacked flavor. The rice, also dry. The salad, strange mix of spring mix, spinach, iceberg, tomato, cucumber, and white onions? The veggie skewers really threw me off because I've never had a anything super spicy from a Mediterranean/Persian restaurant, but they had Roma tomatoes, white onions which is normal but where still on the raw side, and what I thought was slices of green bell pepper but were actually Serrano chiles!! The eggplant dish also dry and super bitter, nothing appetizing about it. The falafel, also very dense and dry and the strange dipping sauce which is usually tahini really threw it off. I'd say the BEST thing going for them is the hummus, also the cheapest thing I ordered. Go for the hummus and nothing else! As far as service and ambiance, it's a good kitchen, take out or delivery only so if you want my opinion, it's still one star. read more

When I first saw this place I thought it was a chicken restaurant, like a fancy El Pollo Loco, but that impression was wrong. It's a casual Persian/Mediterranean restaurant with a nice menu with perhaps a slight emphasis on chicken, white tablecloths, and even takeout/delivery if you want. It was made of chopped tomatoes, cucumbers, parsley, onion, with some olive oil and lemon juice. Cool, fresh, and appetizing. (5/5) Rather than go for the evidently preferred chicken dishes I chose the Filet Mignon Barg (http://bit.ly/2uLuLyX). It came with a marinated and charbroiled piece of filet mignon, basmati rice, and a grilled tomato. The filet mignon was very tender and easily broke apart. There was a very light taste of marinade. Very good. There was a healthy potion of basmati rice. The rice was nicely cooked and I easily finished the whole portion. Personally, I don't really care for grilled tomatoes so it didn't really appeal to me, but that's a personal preference as it was fine otherwise. For the older folks among us (of which I am one) ordering from ghost kitchens can be confusing. I am speaking from experience. Order online, or you can order using the tablet at the location, but if you do that you'll have to wait while your food is prepared. The public access to the location is a small waiting area with bare minimum service (you might find someone to help at the counter, but don't bet on it. Ghost kitchens are not intended to have much, if any, service.) When your order is ready, you'll receive a text message with a link and a locker number. Click the link and tap a button on the web page and your locker will open so you can retrieve your food. It's actually really easy once you know what to expect. Now, the food.... I heard about Chicken Chick from a coworker who lives near the old location, which she loved, and we decided to try the new place. I got the juicy chicken and the Persian salad. The chicken includes Persian rice and a grilled tomato. Everything was absolutely delicious and piping hot when I received it. The chicken is very tender, juicy (as advertised), and very well seasoned. For me the plate is enough for three meals (literally. I ate it for lunch two days and also dinner on the second day.) The Persian salad (which I ate for dinner the first day) is very fresh and exactly what you would expect in a Persian salad, refreshing and light. I highly recommend this place. Saffron rice and shallot yogurt are also very nhhiiicceee. Why the one star deduction? Two issues. The juicy chicken meal portion of rice is bountiful...but the chicken portion could be a bit bigger considering the price. There inconsistency as to whether the juicy chicken meal comes with pita bread. Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes they make you ask, and sometimes you get attitude for asking if you request pita upon picking up your food. I was so excited to eat I forgot to take a picture (I don't think anyone really wants to see a half demolished plate of food lol), but it's still the same delicious food as before at the old location. I ordered the beef koobideh and the salmon plate, which is usually way too much food for me, but since it's been so long I needed to have both of my favorites. Absolutely love the beef, and we ordered extra tomato since you can't get enough. The salmon was sooo tender, possibly my favorite preparation, and the sauce that comes with it is always spot on. The *beef kabob* is juicy and flavorful, the *chicken breast* is tasty, well cooked! The*beef kabob sandwich* was surprisingly good! The bread is soft and really makes all the difference! I recommended a friend got here and he's been a regular for the past four years going more than twice a week sometimes everyone we share this restaurant with falls in love. We wish they would grow as the only location so far is in Torrance California. I recommend you get the cucumber, salad and baba ghanouj and hummus are great. Of all the times I've drive by this area, I can't believe that I haven't stopped by here to eat. I finally made the time to eat here, while en route to a Halloween event. We walked in to this small eatery, and we were seated promptly. We munched on bread and hummus while we perused the menu. I went with the filet mignon kebab, with zereshk polo on the side. To drink, I had some iced black tea. The kebab was very tender and delicious. The zerreshk polo was done well, with the right balance of barberries. It was a huge plate, and it hit the spot well without getting me comatose. This is a sign that the food is good quality. The iced tea was a perfect complement to this meal, and gave me a small jolt of energy from the caffeine. My friend's meal was just as good, and we were impressed by our experience here. There was a clump of lettuce that left a nasty, bitter taste in my mouth. I don't know if it wasn't washed well or what but that went in the trash post haste. The chicken had a beautifully charred orange color. Visually the chicken was nice and it tasted just as good. It was essentially chicken on a kabob stick. Sides: When I order a plate from a Mediterranean spot i typically expect for a small salad, side of hummus and a pita to come included. That was not the case for this spot. This place was suggested by another local shopkeeper. The "Juicy chicken" plate is tasty, well seasoned yet not too salty. The Eggplant is served warm, which creates a sort of "crust", adding depth to the texture. The eggplant itself is worth the trip, if you like eggplant. Hummus is tasty, and not oily. The rosewater ice cream had pistachios in it, and looked lovely, but the texture was not to my liking. Lovely presentation. My guest really liked it. The 2 and 3-person tables are a little small for my taste. Service is "relaxed" but helpful. You will need to call for the check, or get up and pay when you're ready to go; on the one hand they don't rush you, but on the other, they could be more attentive. It's a little distracting, and a little frustrating to have both music playing at the same time as a TV show set to mute. Again, the eggplant might've been the best item, IF you like eggplant!
