Half chicken lunch special with broccoli and string beans, today I got string beans and baked beans instead. 30 minutes later and I can pick up my order and go about my day. Oh the meal also comes with two pieces of pita bread and their amazingly flavorful green sauce. The first time I walked in I was happy I had called in my order, there were people waiting on their food in the doorway. I knew then, I'd made a good choice; I also knew when I took my first bite into that juicy ass thigh meat! The chicken reminds me of that Boston market rotisserie flavor but grilled but BBQ'd ; I'm not sure what they do to it but somebody's grandma seasoned this meat with her feet lol! No exaggerations! I've had the quater and half chicken lunch specials (half is $10, it's actually $10 and some change but the cashier let's you slide with the change) and everything is always so flavorful and magnificent. I am now a chicken lover myself! =] I'm from london and really miss nandos bk home (if you're not from the UK then u dont understand) . So i was told that they make tasty grilled chicken. And YES, it really does taste goooooooood! It's not a large restaurant but there is a sit-down tables to eat. It's also not a fast-food place. So kinda in-between. Don't let the dingy look of the restaurant steer you away. The food is actually pretty good, however, a bit on the oily side. Everything has a slightly charred taste to it, but the ingredients are fresh and delicious. This place is notorious for its portion size. I ordered 1/2 chicken and 1/2 ribs with no sides for the family and I swear they gave me more than what I actually ordered. Originally, I thought I got the wrong order. They added flatbread, a side of rice, a million of the green sauce (which by the way is so yummy!). It takes a while for the food to cook because they do everything on the spot as you order so everything is fresh, hot, and juicy. The first time I called, the guy who answered the phone told me that they had no chicken left. I was shocked. So I asked for a cheeseburger. He told me they had also run out of beef and suggested I try the ribs. I hung up. The second time I called, the guy put me on hold for 2 minutes. Two minutes is too long when there are 5 other chicken places to choose from, including BonChon right nearby, where I eventually ordered my dinner.. CLICK! UPDATE: 11/25/15 I finally got through to them on the phone and ordered a grilled chicken sandwich and two sides--mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. The sides were not homemade; they probably use Kraft mac and cheese and the mashed potatoes did not taste like they were made from fresh potatoes. However, I must admit the chicken sandwich was pretty awesome. It had a large cutlet and lots of mayo and tomato and lettuce. The green sauce they give you with any chicken order is to die for--the best green sauce I've ever had. I love the food here! The chicken, the ribs, the sides... 's all good in my book! The chicken is smoky, succulent, and delicious with the green sauce. The ribs are yummy as well however some parts are chewy/tough (the parts with little to no fat). The owner of this place is just the sweetest! I asked her if my order had a pita, and it did, and she even threw in an extra one for me :'). Now that's what I call good customer service! I absolutely love chicken lovers. It is a great place to get your "homey food". I never really ordered delivery before when I used to live in Bayside. I would just go and pick up the order, but now that I live farther I recently have been ordering delivery quite often. I noticed that sometimes, I cant even get through to the restaurant. I would need too call about 5 times at least to get a response! I am happy for the restaurant that theyre so busy, but if youre so busy then hire more people! I expect that delivery takes about 1 hr and more sometimes since its busy trust me I grew up in the industry. However, one time I ordered delivery and literally took two and a half hours, what is worse is that I tried calling the restaurant to get an answer and absolutely no response for almost a half hour! Absolutely irresponsible. Finally we decided to order at another place, and we actually went to go pick up the order, and they finally showed up. After 2 and a half hours. I kindly spoke to the delivery guy and he gave me such an attitude that they were busy no apology or anything and walked away. How FREAKIN RUDE?!?!? I went on a hiatus for about 3 weeks before ordering. If my boyfriend did not want it, I honestly would not have ordered because I was so angry from the last time. Pretty decent. Came here the other day, ordered 1/4 chicken and 1/4 ribs. The mac and cheese was delicious, as was the chicken, although it was a bit dry. The ribs were a little tough, but the pieces that weren't were delicious. It took a while to get our food since the staff wasn't communicating, so it was sitting there for around 10 minutes before they realized we never got our food..so keep an eye on the time and remind them if it's been too long. Been wanting to check out this place for awhile looking at all the great reviews here. It certainly did not disappoint. I ordered the 1/4 chicken and ribs combo with mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. The mac & cheese wasn't the freshest but I went during late lunch hours. It was still delish tho! The chicken was grilled perfectly and the ribs were also perfect with just enough sauce. Portions were enormous and that's coming from a big eater. I couldn't even finish all of it and it was the perfect leftovers for the next day. Overall I was more than satisfied. First of all, I am giving one star only for the mediocre food otherwise I would give this place 0 after my past experience. This place is very inefficient with ordering. When I walked in there were 9 parties sitting on tables waiting for their orders to be fulfilled. Not one party had food on their table. Right away I knew there was a long wait coming. After waiting an hour for my order, two people orders in front of mine were fulfilled... eventually a third. I burst out in anger asking why I am being served later than those who came after me. Eventually one of the cooks said he had dropped my order which is written on the take out container and placed it randomly in queue. I was infuriated and voiced my anger visibly and clearly. The cashier said, " Calm down," in an imperative manner with a straight intonation. Calm down? Who are you to tell me to calm down? How about you de-escalate by apologizing and using a tone of voice that is soothing and calming? How about asking the customers what their queue on line was? How about using a real management system for orders? When I got home I opened my container to find my food unevenly cooked. I knew that it would be considering they pre-cook the chicken and grill it again to warm it up leaving the chicken dry in various spots. In addition, the rice was too watery and the vegetables were overcooked. Nothing like mushy sides with dry chicken. If only the sauce could redeem the food but the sauce itself is bottled and not made from scratch unlike Pio Pio. I ended up using my own cilantro jalapeno lime sauce from a week ago because it tasted much better. Finally, I found a few unsanitary practices. The cashier handles some of the food and the money. He even scratched the inside of his ear with his pinky finger and did not wash his hands at any point. The person transferring the store-bought green sauce into containers was visibly sick and sneezed near the open containers of sauce. It's the homemade version of Boston Market except the prices are extremely reasonable and the portions are huge. The have many options for the side and they also have ribs. This is a not so hidden gem in Bayside. No frills, similar to Peruvian style places, but different menu. Killer mayo-based (I think) green sauce. They have off the hook bbq chicken and ribs. I've passed this place a couple times and it never would've occurred to me to go in were it not for Yelp. I just finished my dinner...and it was damn good. I got the 1/4 chicken 1/4 ribs combo with two sides, roasted red potatoes and corn. I got white meat for an extra $1. Total was $13 for a MASSIVE amount of food. Tasty, tasty food. The chicken was juicy and well-seasoned. The other reviewers were correct though...the highlight here is the ribs. They are meaty and smoky and delicious. Now I know where to come when, in the middle of January, I get a hankering for good ole summer barbeque. This tastes like the real deal. Sloppy, yummy barbeque. When I went in there was an old Chinese dude training another younger Chinese dude and two people waiting for their food. I went to the cash register and told them that I ordered online he looked at me and continued talking to the younger dude who I assume was new. I waited 10 mins until he was done then he served one of the other persons waiting. It was only then that he got my order and asked for payment. Now not sure if its because i got in there at the last minute - i am pretty sure they just gave me everything that was left because i had like 8 thighs and 5 drumsticks and one breast. From the looks of this place, I was skeptical about how good their food could actually be. But I checked out the reviews, and saw how crowded it was and knew I will be pleasantly surprised. (Which I was) I ordered the 1/4 chicken with 2 sides. They definitely go thru ALOT of food here, especially since they provide you with LARGE portions. I was so full after I had my meal, that I had leftovers for dinner the next day! The chicken is seasoned to perfection and the green sauce is amazing! I tried both the green sauce and BBQ sauce, both of which complement the meal well. As for the sides, I had the broccoli and red potatoes. They were good, basic, but good. It was a nightmare! Ordered food online at 5:30pm for pickup at 6:30pm. Got their on time that place was PACKED! No social distancing at all . It's a big big mess inside. Only one lady taking care the front . All the guys in the back chilling. No one is enforcing social distancing! This establishment just lost a LONG time customer. I placed an order at 6PM for delivery. At 6:50PM I received a phone call from Chicken Lovers to inform me that my order cannot be fulfilled because the delivery driver has left for the day. Since I placed my order through yelp/eat 24 I have to request a refund with the third party. Something doesn't sit right with me. Their establishment closes at 8:30pm, odd for the delivery driver to leave 2 and half hours early. I had a friend call for delivery a minute after. Guess what??? They were delivering!!!! But not to me... why? So I called the restaurant immediately after my friend and tried to place an order over the phone. They had my information right in front of them and asked if this was for delivery- to which I respond yes and she takes my address and confirms they are currently doing deliveries. She paused and is a bit confused. She asks if I had already placed an order online. To which I said I did and asked if they were going to deliver that order. She puts me on a hold and comes back to tell me they are. So I share with her what happened and she puts me on another hold. She comes back and she said, "Sorry for the confusion. We told you we had to cancel the order because we thought the driver had left but he's back now. We called all our delivery orders to cancel. ALL IN A SPAN OF 2 MINUTES THE INFORMATION CHANGED. Here's the clincher- she tells me, "we can make your order now and deliver it right away"..... Hold on, I placed my order 50 minutes before I got the call and all that time you didn't make my food? That just implicates you were never going to make my food and you waited 50 minutes to tell me an excuse about the delivery driver leaving for the day.... So I speak candidly, because someone needs to practice honesty, and said to her, "I'm confused, I placed an order and got a call 50 minutes later and was told it had to be cancelled but now you're telling me C.L. can in fact make the delivery?" She responds, "Yes we can. Would you like to make the food now?" I'm puzzled and so defeated. I tell her straight up, "you know what, I don't even want your food anymore. I was lied to and I cannot trust how my food is going to be handled. So I'll just proceed with my cancellation with eat24 and leave you a wonderful review on yelp about the type of business practices at this establishment" and I hung up. Was I going to? Maybe, probably not because I'm starving I need to look for food. I don't have time for that... Honestly, I was pissed because I LOVED this place and feel like I was taken around on a wild goose chase and it doesn't stop here. Here's the REAL GEM of this whole ordeal, I started to get call after call after call from C.L. to which I declined then another 3 calls from a cell immediately after to which I also declined. They called me 6 times and left a voicemail. In which she apologizes but tells me "there was no reason for you to be rude to me" HOW?!?!?!?!? I remained calm, I never raised my voice or cussed and I was HONEST. I guess she was really offended by my honesty. After all of this, my priority is STILL to find food. But I can't because THE TEXTS STARTED COMING IN. She is legit blowing up my phone. *Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing* She's actually texting me to tell me that she would have given me my food free of charge (how would that go if I had to look for a refund with eat24?) and she tells me that I shouldn't have been rude to her (again, HOW?!) because she's actually a really nice person. STOP IT GIRL, NOW YOU ARE S T R E T C H I N G. Now, I have to draw the line and tell her to STOP HARASSING ME. Followed by another 10 messages of "You were rude" "I was on your side" "I'm not harassing you" "No one lied to you" "No one was blatantly lying to you" How did this get SO MESSY without any food in front of me- I just wanted some ribs and some hot wings. I hope this review is used as an opportunity for C.L. to improve internal communication and practice customer service. If you have an upset customer, do not text your customers relentlessly to say you are a good person. Needless to say, this has been a sour experience from start to finish and I will no longer be enjoying C.L. ever again. tldr; I placed an online order through yelp. After an hour, I received a call to inform me that my order was cancelled bc C.L.'s delivery driver left for the day (2.5 hours before closing time). Had a friend call immediately after and C.L was still in fact taking deliveries. When I called them out on lying, they coughed it up to miscommunication. They offer to prepare my order right away, which I declined. Then they began harassing me for over an hour with 6 calls, a voicemail and 20+ text messages insulting me. read more
