I've been going to Chicken Oil for years. The food is great. During colder months, they'll light the fireplace. I went there on Sunday at 1:55 pm. The workers at the counter told me they wouldn't take my order because they close at 2 pm. I understand I came in last minute, but I used to work at a restaurant and we NEVER turned customers away BEFORE closing time. I was very frustrated at their (lack of) customer service. read more

I hate to say this but Chicken Oil Co has fell off. We just called in an order for 4 and legit every part of the order was wrong. After clarifying multiple times. The fries were all soggy and gross. The tomato slice on the burgers was no less than an inch and a half thick. Terrible. We had family in town from Boston and wanted them to try a local treat, sadly mistaken. I enjoyed the decor and atmosphere but the burgers are average at best. It was simply a burger with bacon and jack cheese but nothing separates them from anyone else no specialty buns, sauces nothing. The fries were again average nothing food wise separates Chicken Oil from anywhere else. Will not return not worth it to get the norm. read more

Chicken Oil Co is a nice little place. It looks like an old wooden cabin from outside. Inside is full of Western cowboy type decorations, with wood tables and chairs. The cheeseburger is ok (meat is good, but lettuce is too "old" green)... I like the Tijuana fries very much (melted cheese on top of fries)... yum :) read more

This place is full of atmosphere and history and charm. The prices are great and the plates are big. The music playing is perfect in the background. It's like an old food joint just for Aggies! Parking is somewhat limited but there is plenty of seating and some of it is set up for family style eating. It is not a bar so don't come expecting anything like that because it is so much better! One of my husband's haunts from Aggie days. Fun atmosphere, country feel with aging dusty trophy mounts on wall (deer, elk, ram etc), carved up well worn wooden tables and chairs , and rusting and rickety antiques one would expect I'm rural Texas. I went for the Chicken Fried Steak. Not sure what I was thinking - it looked like standard 'food service' fare - fresh from freezer to fryer. But it tasted good enough and the price was right. The small platter (means one patty instead of two) comes with salad and fries, so plenty of food. Basic iceberg salad, and a medium cut fry if I remember correctly. I was there for an early dinner so it was pretty quiet. It looks like it could be a lot of fun later in the evening. I probably should have had a burger. read more

Chicken Oil is an old fallback that is bound to please everyone in a group. The ambience here is quintessential Aggieland. Everyone has to visit at least once! We had a get together here Sunday night and it was surprisingly busy (probably because every other burger joint in town was closed!) My husbands burger was average...not the best in town, not the worst. He said the bun was soggy, but the meat was well-seasoned. I had a veggie burger and it was decent. They use frozen rice patties here, which is about what you can expect. It was still a little cold in the middle. The wheat bun was a nice touch though. My husbands French fries and my sweet potato fries were extremely plentiful. We couldn't finish our baskets. The sweet potato fries were perfectly crisp on the outside with a soft middle. We could definitely split an order of fries next time. Pricing is fair. A burger will set you back $4-6, add $2 for fries and $2 for a drink. There is plenty of variety on the menu-burgers, chicken strips, and anything else you can think of to fry. The salads actually looked pretty good too. Only major flaw here are the bathrooms. You can't enter the ladies room without hitting the person standing at the sink. Neither of the stall doors lock. The soap is too high for many to reach. They aren't particularly clean either. read more

This place is the cheesy trophy room of the Dixie Chicken. Despite being more of a restaurant then its sister bar, the burgersat Chicken Oil somehow fall a bit short of those at 'the Chicken'. And yes, Chicken Oil is generally quieter than the Chicken, (both in terms of business, and music/TV volume level), I found the place less enjoyable. You can have lunch and intimate conversation at the Chicken pretty much anytime outside peak hours. There's not much point in going to Chicken Oil, unless the Chicken is packed, and then, chances are, Chicken Oil will be busy too. read more

Visiting my son on campus this weekend, went here having been told by many people how good the burgers are. I've become a bit of a burger snob, and I prefer someplace with fresh rolls and fresh beef. This place has neither. For $4 (before cheese) I can get a fresh beef burger at Wendy's, but these were obviously frozen. So were the right out of the freezer bag fries. The burgers were greasy and while the flavor was decent they were nothing special. The onion rings were decent but expensive. The decor of the old cans and license plates on the wall, stuffed animals (a big turn off for my 13 year old daughter) and such was cute. I'm sure Aggie grads like the A&M paper towels but if you want a good burger you can do better. read more

I'm giving four stars for the ambiance and fried pickles. I'm not sure how I haven't been here before since seems like a college station staple. Reminds me of the Dixie Chicken but bigger...more family friendly...and a larger menu. If you are looking for healthy food, this is not the place...the menu is mostly burgers and fried foods. I had the grilled buffalo chicken wrap in an attempt to be healthy...obviously not a great attempt since I also housed a basket of fried pickles. The fried pickles were awesome...probably some of my fave in CS. Thick pickles and batter. Yum. Buffalo wrap was meh and prob wouldn't have again. Someone else ordered the chicken fried chicken...and looked yummy....but can't actually comment on the taste. the ambience is cool...almost makes you think you are in a garage sale or antique store. Finally got around to trying "the chicken". The place is old style cabin looking with a lot of animal heads mounted on the walls. It's a little over cluttered but you can be sure every time you go in you will notice something new. We went in on a Tuesday night and there was a local band playing some country songs. The food was good. My boyfriend and I both chose the burgers with cheese and fries. The burgers themselves we're tasty and filling. Not a big fan of the fries. I like my fries a little more crispy and not so bland. Will definitely have to come back and try their chicken fried steak. I will have to say that their parking lot could be remodeled or at least leveled out and marked. It's more of less park wherever and hope no one blocks you out. read more

My husband loves it here, but to me it's just another place. The woman up front wasn't very friendly. I was told mayo came on my grilled chicken sandwich. I don't know what they used but it was sweet like miracle whip... and that is NOT mayo. My sweet potatoes fries were good. But other than that I was disappointed in my food. My chicken was dry. We went for the burgers, which I had been craving a delicious burger, but wanted to try something new. I ordered a double cheese burger, recommended by the cashier, a side of fries & a drink, since fries or drink are not included. We waited about 3-5 minutes for our food. The food was hot, the burgers were defiantly greasy, but didn't have any flavor... the fries were plain as can be! Should have gone to whataburger. Looking around at all the signs, decor & dead stuffed animals ? Seemed pretty cool, but I lost my appetite with all these animals hanging on the walls, made me very uncomfortable & I wanted to become a vegan, knowing I was eating meat. Have lived in BCS for 20 years, and even has the great burger debate rages on, our favorite remains the Chicken Oil Co. Double meat/double cheese will take a few years off your life, but it is truly an outstanding burger. Fries only so-so, but deep fried pickle chips (health food) are awesome. The decor and atmosphere cannot be matched anywhere else. The large glasses of ice tea, a must. Any place in Texas without them (increase by the day) should be shut down. read more

It was about the size of my palm so I was disappointed from the beginning. Don't think I got the child size, but who knows. Ordered with mustard only -- but came with mustard & mayo.
