May 15, I was doing some shopping in The Valley and stopped for a lunch carryout ~1 p.m. The place wasn't packed, and I got right up to the counter and ordered from Jessica. There was a big poster about a Madame Curry chicken salad (not on the menu), so I figured it was a "limited time only" flavor and ordered a scoop. You can get your chicken salad as a sandwich, if you prefer. There are many choices of chicken salad flavors. Side offerings are three salads (broccoli, grape and pasta), fresh fruit and mac 'n cheese. The soups available this day were loaded potato and chicken tortilla. I got the broccoli salad as my side (broccoli florets with a sweet vinegar-based dressing tossed with shredded mozz and cheddar, and crispy bacon) for $8.72. Yeah, I got the broccoli salad the previous day, but it is so dang good, I just HAD to get it again. At home, I ate the dill spear first. The chicken salad sat on a couple lettuce leaves. The broccoli salad was in a separate compartment. AND there were four packages of wheat crackers and a wrapped mini buttercream frosted cookie. It was a beautiful package, just like the day before at the eatery in Creve Coeur. The chicken salad was smooth (not chunky). OK, I've only had their chicken salad twice, and the smooth concept seems to be a theme. That's alright with me, but isn't there celery in there or anything else crunchy? I ate the Madame Curry with the lettuce. On first bite, there was an ever-so-tiny tingle of curry. Kinda disappointing, but as I plowed on, the curry flavor built somewhat. FIRST TIME DISAPPOINTED Here's a new one from. My office is not too far from this place. My staff loves this place up until today. Placed a delivery order for five people, only 4 orders got delivered. Called to let them know. The best they can do is offer a refund. These orders where for a meeting with clients! So, I had to give my order to the one that didn't get his order. They didn't even offer to make the order and we would pick it up. But no, just a refund. It really doesn't matter how good the food is, if customer service is sub par it makes one think about going back. Missing an order is one thing, rectifying a mistake is another. This place just opened a couple of weeks ago and I've been dying to try it. So when my sister said, "let's go to lunch," I knew just where to go. We got there around 11:20, so on the early side for lunch. Walked right up to the counter, no wait. Of the 20 ish tables, maybe five had people sitting at them. One table of four was all males...so men, don't think chicken salad just for chicks. By the time we left, just after noon, the line was to the door and almost every table was full. As we ate, we noticed that maybe as much as 1/4 of the people were getting to go orders. It's a good carry out kind of lunch. Order and pay at counter. Self serve drinks. Seat yourselves. Tables cleared by friendly staff. Now for the food...dining with your sister you don't have to ask to try things right off of her plate. Well maybe you should but that's another story. The point is I was able to try four of the different chicken salads. We both chose a sandwich (croissant) which comes with a side. One of the side choices is an additional scoop of chicken salad. Also cones with a slice of pickle and several packages of wheat crackers. The croissant was dry and cold. Maybe refrigerated but not worth eating. I dispensed of that and discovered my sandwich of Fancy Nancy was barely there. There was one green grape, one mushy red grape and barely any chicken salad at all. I don't recommend this one. Right there...lost a star. The scoop of Cranberry Kelli was good and great on the crackers. Classic Carol was good and I'm glad I tried but boring with the other fun menu choices. Sassy Scotty...yum (ranch bacon and cheddar). Highly recommend. Vinyl table cloths make it feel nicer than regular fast food and it seems to be a place you can linger when you're finished eating. Definitely worth going again. Skip the bread and just order scoops. You won't be sorry Update: Second visit...Employees had zero personality. My two scoops were just okay. Fun place for lunch but I don't see where all the hype is coming from. I tried the buffalo chicken salad on croissant and a scoop of the spicy pimento cheese. While the chicken salad was good the croissant was a bit stale. The pimento cheese was good and definitely hot and served with crackers. I think if I went back I'd just get two scoops without bread or on a sandwich. The atmosphere is cute but the tables are ridiculously close together. The service was also good. Definitely try it, but I'm not sure I'd make a b-line back. read more

Tasty surprise!! Fancy Nancy chicken salad with apples, grapes abs pecans was very yummy! Side of fresh fruit ( strawberries, red and green grapes, blueberries) was a great complement to the croissant sandwich. The finishing touch was a frosted sugar cookie!! I arrived around 2pm to no line & lots of seating. The place is nicely decorated & an inviting place for lunch. I had very friendly service with someone in the dining area checking on me more than once. I avoided the croissant per earlier reviews & got a scoop of lemon basil with a side of fruit salad. While the lemon & basil were detectable, they were not nearly as prominent as I would have liked. It was fine, but for a place that specializes in chicken salad I really wanted something to wow me. The fruit salad was a decent size & a good mix of berries & melon. I'm giving 3 stars because it was completely adequate but not anything I'd ever seek out. There are lots of lunch places around that are more friendly to the mayo haters like my husband & best friend. If somebody else wanted to come here I'd be happy to go, but wouldn't ever pick it over some of the other options. read more

The founder/owner was there herself and was talking to all the customers. Good business culture. On to the food, the Lemon Basil chicken salad was fantastic. The chicken salad here is just the right balance of chicken to mayo, finally a chicken salad that is light but still delicious. You can have the salad served as a sandwich on white, wheat, or croissant. I chose to just have the scoop of salad. I had the grape salad as the side and it was so good, it had me wanting more. I stopped in for lunch during a business trip to the St. Louis area and I'm so glad I did. I had the Classic Carol on a croissant with lettuce and tomato, it came with a side (I chose chips) and a little sugar cookie. I also got sweet tea (they also had lemonade, unsweetened tea and various sodas available). Everything tasted great, the chicken salad was flavorful and the perfect balance of ingredients--sometimes chicken salad can be too dry or overwhelmed by mayo, neither was the case here. They were doing brisk business just before noon on a cold weekday--the restaurant was about 80% full but service was still fast and the staff was very friendly and helpful. I wish we had a location in Iowa so I could try some of the other recipes on the menu, they all look really good!! Waukee is a growing suburb of Des Moines and could really use a place like this (hint, hint). ;) read more

On a shopping trip at lunch time I Yelped restaurants nearby and when I found Chicken Salad Chick was open it was time for directions! I stopped by the other day. It was after the lunch rush. The restaurant is clean and inviting. The service was polite and quick. I recommend reading the menu thoroughly before arriving. I truly hate making decisions under pressure and these were brand new decisions I had to make with a completely new menu. I went with Carol's original. Good, but on the bland side. There are actually several places I like that have better chicken salad. However, I'm sure that other "gussied up" salads are more flavorful. The sides are nothing special. I am excited that a bit if the South has crossed the Mason Dixon. I had wanted to pick up some Pimento cheese spread to go, but they were out. (Loss of star). I'm sure my lady friends will want to go and I will not dissuade them. I'll be ordering the Pimento BLT and see how that goes. I wish them well and hope they are successful. read more

An inviting little place, with a country/homey decor inside. Chicken salad for your food is it, as described pretty well by the name. But you can get either a scoop or on a sandwich. The wife got a scoop and I got the curry chicken salad on a croissant. My sandwich was pretty tasty, if also mild on the curry. Enough to tell, but not overpower. I'd actually like more flavor for more interest, but it's probably good that a curry selection wasn't too strong. So decent chicken salad, if not an OMG experience. I did really like my grape salad side, with sweet cream cheese on it. And the wife's bacon broccoli concoction side salad was also really good. In fact, the sides maybe outshine the main. The little sugar cookie that comes with a combo is a nice finish and counterpoint to the chicken salad. So if you are wanting a somewhat Southern/country lunch of chicken salad and sides, here's your place. But I'm not sure if such a limited concept has legs for a long term life. I'd imagine the menu choices will have to gradually expand to stay in the game. read more

Solid 4 stars. My wife loves this place due to her travels so of course we went. First the negatives. This place waaaaay oversells to its female clientele. I'm a guy, I like it, really I do, but ok they have silly names, Fancy Nancy, whatever, don't care, I'll order a Mincing Mary if that's it's name. There are signs in the men's room telling you that if they have to put up with decorative brass spitoons in BBQ joints, you can surely muster up the courage to order the Fancy Nancy...if that's your ....fancy. It seemed a bit over the top. I could add my immediate thought, but it would be very crude. The soup portions are horrendous. 4 ounces is my guess. 8 spoon fulls at most. They really should call it not a cup, but a shot glass of soup. The proudly displayed how we got our start message was baffling. Mom sells stuff made at home, which is illegal, gets called out (I'm enraged too as I ran a home Zanax factory for a bit until the FDA shut me down) and had to :shudder: submit to Hitler (errrr I mean the health inspectors). It is however worth the money and the chicken salad is more filling than you'd guess. I left happy, full and confused. read more

This place was on my 'check it out' list since it opened. I had never been to one before. I ordered a scoop of the original chicken salad and my daughter chose a turkey pesto sandwich. The service was fantastic. Friendly, timely, and made me want to give this place a 5 star review. But, the food was just ok. Basically, we were underwhelmed. It wasn't bad, the flavor was good, presentation was nice, but it just didn't make me go WOW like I expected. Maybe it was the texture of the salad as it was a little mushy. I like my salad a little chunkier and with more crisp ingredients. The crunch was nonexistent. Even the cookie was only half eaten by the kiddo. Not bad, but not great. Stopped by this past weekend to give them a taste. We grabbed the Classic Carol for my wife and I got the Kickin' Kay Lynne. 2 words: HOLY ISH!! I thought my chix salad was good but boy do I have it all wrong! The classic is absolutely perfect... Creamy, rich and full of flavor while the Kickin' Kay was a creamy, packed with flavor smack on the chops! Brilliant - with just the right hint of Sriracha to end each bite. Bravo Chicken Salad Chick for getting this done right! My recipe is officially retired (not really but I want you to know just how much we loved your recipes).
