I live in Maine and when I plan a trip to NH I always consider how I can include a trip to this restaurant. I ordered a bunch of items including Vegetable Lo Mein, Beef Teriyaki, and Spare Ribs. The mushrooms in the Lo Mein had completely seasons the noodles and personally, I don't like mushrooms so I went around them and like I said, they had completely seasoned the noodles, and to me, they tasted like the smell of horse manure. The beef Teriyaki in general just tasted like nothing, and the Spare Ribs tasted like rubber and most of which were burnt. Don't let the location fool you! Their food is absolutely delicious. All the sauces on the dishes were amazing and very delicious. Their string beans are to-die-for but they are a little spicy. The pasta in the Lo Mein was cooked to perfection. The shrimp in dishes were large. read more

While exploring around Lincoln town, this seemed to be one of the few if not the only Chinese restaurant. I walked into the restaurant fully prepared for unauthentic food, but was pleasantly surprised. We only ordered hot and sour soup and lamb cooked in two ways, it was enough for the two of us. The main dish comes with a bowl of rice. The hot and sour soup was full of ingredients, mushrooms, egg, minced meat, scallions, you name it. It's actually one of the better tasting hot and sour soup I have had anywhere, they get the proportions of the spices quite good and the consistency of the soup is also controlled very well. The lamb cooked in two ways is also fairly authentic, one cooked with onion and the other with mushroom and pepper. The vegetables are very fresh. Both meat and veggies are cooked nicely, the lamb is tender and the vegetables crunchy. The staff is extremely friendly and the service very fast, definitely don't have to wait for long for food. Every time we visit the White Mountains, we stop to eat at Chieng Garden. We've tasted a lot of the dishes on their menu and are always impressed with the freshness of the vegetables they use. I enjoy the fact that they don't overcook the vegetables. Their spicy string beans are crisp, not soggy. I also recommend their hot and sour soup. The jasmine tea is a nice change from the "typical" Chinese restaurant tea. The service is always friendly and quick, but not pushy. It's refreshing to find a restaurant in a tourist area that serves good food at reasonable prices. read more

Terrible. Just finished lunch my wife and son. Gen Tao's, S&S chicken and veggie plater. The fried rice was inedible. Never had crunchy fried rice before. When I mentioned it to the waiter he said that's how it is supposed to be. The white rice was more of the same. After a long and cold day of hiking, all my boyfriend and I wanted was to relax in the comfort of our hotel room with some good warm Chinese food in our bellies. Chieng Garden was perfect for that. We rented gear from Lahout's next door, so we conveniently placed an order for take out at Chieng, went to return our gear, and came back to pick up our food in ~10 minutes! When we got to our hotel, the food was still hot and PLENTIFUL. We ordered the appetizer plate, egg drop soup, Szechuan beef, chicken with garlic sauce, & mixed vegetables...and it was TONS of food. We were starving from having skipped lunch, and we STILL had leftovers. I wouldn't say it was the best Chinese food I've ever had, but it was totally tasty and definitely hit the spot. This is by far the worst Chinese food we have ever eaten!! I bit into my crab Rangoon and oil spilled down my lips. The chicken teriyaki was more like chicken jerky. It was bone dry! The rice had no flavor and the shrimp with lobster sauce was watered down and had no flavor. I can't even tell you what was in the egg rolls, but it wasn't anything good. The soda also tasted like old,watered down syrup with very little carbonation. Very akward. My boyfriend and I were the only two people sitting for dinner. Our waiter spoke no english and could barely function. He stared at us while we ate, had no idea how to charge my credit card and when it came time to take our plates he was walking in circles and kept asking us what to do. I remember this place being pretty good years ago, no longer the case. Nothing tells me to come back anytime soon. A number of differerent plates were ordered and sampled in our group. The best comment we found was 1 person thought one plate was descent. Somewhat akward settings, waiters watch our evey move. Something felt weird as if they were not used to dine-ins. Not your average Chinese food. They make things their own way - which is okay as most of it was very good. The only problem was they do not know what a wonton is. Some of the wontons were just big balls of noodle with no filling. The ones that did have filling had a little ball of bad tasting (possibly overcooked) pork. But I got the "House Special" Wonton Soup which added all kinds of other stuff in it and this made up for the bad wontons. They added chicken, shrimp, crab, and veggies to the soup. read more

This was seriously some of the best Chinese I've ever had. This puts everything in Jacksonville, FL to shame. The man who waited us was very nice. When the sizzling rice soup came out with the "sizzling rice" already in the soup, that was a sure sign it wasn't going to be good. The soup was too thick and ingredients weren't fresh. Have tried unsuccessfully twice to eat here. First time they told me it would be 1/2 hour for takeout and they gave me a menu so I could call in orders in the future. So then I tried to call in an order one evening and nobody answered the phone! I ended up going 5 minutes down the street to N. There were 2 of us and our bill was $33, in addition to that they included $6 service fee! For what?? And nobody informed us about this mandatory tip in advance. Had lunch there today. Some of the booth seating has been patched with duck tape but needs to be replaced. Good service. Egg drop soup was so thickly congealed and salty, I couldn't eat it. Hot tea was nice. Beef and broccoli was served lukewarm. Would have preferred hot food. Sauce was visibly oily. Fried rice was so dark it looked like it has been saturated in dark soy sauce; I requested a bowl of white rice which was much better. Appreciated the Brach's peppermint candy at the register.
