    Smash burger

I ordered two meals from Chili's in Victorville on Amargosa Rd. One meal was supposed to come with fries, and the other was supposed to come with loaded mashed potatoes. When I got home, both meals had fries and there were NO mashed potatoes in the bag. I called to explain the mistake, but instead of listening, multiple employees kept arguing with me and insisting the mashed potatoes were in the bag when they were not. I even spoke to the manager, Coreen, and she was rude and dismissive instead of trying to help resolve the issue. Mistakes happen, but the customer service and attitude I received were honestly more disappointing than the missing food. I just wanted my order corrected, not to be argued with repeatedly.

Diane and I stopped here for dinner between Redlands and North Las Vegas. Complimentary Tortilla Chips with excellent paid for Guac were very good. And Ultimate Cajun Pasta with Penne and Alfredo Sauce tasted good. Chicken Fingers with Mac 'n Cheese were okay. But things went down hill at the end of our meal. We were charged for an item we never ordered or received (3 Dips), and because our waitress had already processed the transaction, even though we were paying in cash, the manager said that he couldn't discount anything but credited us something else. But the dish we didn't order cost $7.29., and we were only credited $6.75. To rub salt in the wound, Diane was told that she would receive a military discount. But the bill ultimately wasn't discounted. So we were charged extra for server and manager errors.

    The host

The hosted was extremely rude and unprofessional. She gave me a wait time of 30 - 45 and told me closer to 30 minutes. I waited an hour and she told me there was nothing she could do, as she sat two different tables with the same party size. I stayed 2nd place in line for 30 minutes because they waited on one table to leave instead of the next available table.

Food is always amazing and it's a fast service. We always go for the 3 for me and we leave very satisfied.

The chicken is moist and delicious, literally flavored to the bone. The elite bowl and bros bowls are great alternative to chicken, rice and beans alone. The regular salsa is so good and a great addition to all the meals. The green salsa has a kick but is flavorful and the red salsa is fire. Rice here is perfect every time. The bean are a good compliment to them and the potato salad is good, the beat I've ever had. I've also had them cater a party with 6 chicken and sides that a was a hit. And the ease of not cooking was priceless for us. This place knocks it out of the park!

That's exactly why it's disappointing to say that over the last year or so, I've noticed a decline in consistency, especially as the prices have continued to increase. The biggest issue is that ordering the chicken has become a bit of a gamble. On a good day, it's incredibly flavorful, juicy, and exactly what keeps me coming back. Unfortunately, there have been just as many visits where the chicken has been dry, overcooked, and lacking quality. The sides are another highlight when they're fresh! They're full of flavor and pair perfectly with the meal. But, much like the chicken, consistency seems to be the challenge. Sometimes everything tastes like it was just made, while other times it feels like it's been sitting for a while. I understand that every restaurant has off days, but when prices continue to climb, customers naturally expect the quality to remain consistent. I know what this restaurant is capable of because I've experienced it at its best for years, and that's why I'm hopeful they'll get back to the quality that made me a regular in the first place. I'll continue stopping by because I know how great the food can be. I just hope they can bring back the consistency that made this place stand out.

I found out about it through my cousin, who's a UCR alum, and I'm really glad I finally got to try it. The staff were super nice and attentive, constantly coming by our table to check if we needed more water, tortillas, or anything else we might want. Even with how busy it was, they still made sure everyone was taken care of, which I really appreciated. The restaurant was packed, and it actually surprised me because I don't usually see that many people at restaurants in Riverside. The energy inside felt lively but still comfortable. One of my favorite parts was the fresh tortillas. They come out hot and fresh from the oven, and you can literally watch them being made right in front of you, which made it even better. And the best part is they're free. We ordered the carne fajitas and chile relleno. The fajitas were incredible, the meat was juicy, tender, and packed with flavor, with that perfect smoky sear that comes from being cooked fresh on a hot skillet. Everything came out sizzling and stayed flavorful with every bite. The chile relleno was also really good, with a nice balance of savory and slightly creamy filling that paired well with the sauce. It was actually my first time trying fajitas, and I can confidently say I'll be ordering them again the next time I come back. I definitely plan on returning while I'm still at UCR to make up for all the years I didn't know this place existed.

First time coming to the restaurant for all of us. The ambience was cool and I liked the fact that they made the tortillas fresh. The food was cool I guess. My grandmother got the chicken fajitas but there were no bell peppers with it, just onions. The tamale was mid. My Dad and myself ordered a basic bean and cheese burrito. I did not like the fact that it wasn't mentioned that the beans are made with bacon until AFTER we received our food! My dad doesn't eat meat and the rice is made with chicken as well. The server did bring him something else but this needs to be stated on the menu or upon ordering! We were sat right next to where they made the tortillas and can see them being made since they had glass windows around it. However, there was one gentleman that was making tortillas who was on his cell phone texting or whatever CONSTANTLY at the same time while doing this. He had a glove on one hand and no glove on the other, and was touching the tortilla dough.....We all know how dirty a cell phone is! And what made it worse is at one point he itched the inside of his nose with his finger, and didn't even wash his hands or have gloves on after that. Definitely made my stomach turn and what caused me to go and write this review. I suggest a camera be placed at the tortilla station, add the notes about bacon in the beans and chicken in the rice, and add bell peppers to the fajitas. Also, maybe give the option of meatless beans and rice for the non-meat eaters

How did HomeState, a restaurant celebrated for bringing an authentic taste of Texas to Southern…read moreCalifornia, become so beloved in a city synonymous with the LA street taco? Most people would point to its outstanding tacos, built on pillowy, made-from-scratch flour tortillas and comforting Austin-style Tex-Mex fillings. HomeState emphasizes slow-cooked meats, warm hospitality, and the welcoming food culture that Texas is known for. They are also well known for their perfectly seasoned eggs, making their breakfast tacos especially popular. I ordered two of their Anytime (Daytime) Tacos: the Picadillo (grass-fed ground beef, potatoes, carrots, cabbage slaw, and pickled jalapeños) and the Chicken (organic achiote-marinated chicken, cabbage slaw, and guacamole). The achiote-marinated chicken was exceptionally tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. The achiote gave the meat its signature deep-orange hue and subtle earthy flavor, while the generous portions of creamy guacamole and crisp cabbage slaw added freshness and a satisfying crunch. The Picadillo taco was equally impressive. The combination of seasoned ground beef, tender potatoes, sweet carrots, crunchy cabbage slaw, and tangy pickled jalapeños created a delicious balance of flavors and textures. A few generous dabs of HomeState's housemade hot sauces elevated it even further. The seasoned beef paired with the red salsa reminded me of a Taco Bell Burrito Supreme--but made with fresher, higher-quality ingredients, more texture, and a welcome kick from the jalapeños, all without the sour cream. These tacos do not hold together for very long, but that is largely because the fillings are so juicy and generously portioned. It was a trade-off I was more than willing to accept. The undisputed star of the meal, however, was the fresh flour tortillas. They lived up to every expectation--pillowy soft, perfectly thick, buttery, and incredibly fresh. They were not just a vessel for the fillings; they were the defining element of the entire meal and easily the highlight of my visit. To wash everything down, I ordered the hibiscus limeade. The refreshing blend of steeped hibiscus, fresh lime juice, and agave syrup struck a perfect balance between tart and sweet, making it an ideal companion to the rich tacos. Traditional LA street tacos will always define the city's taco culture, but HomeState has carved out its own loyal following by embracing something entirely different. When you are craving Austin-style Tex-Mex and some of the freshest, fluffiest flour tortillas you will find anywhere in Los Angeles, HomeState absolutely delivers. 4.5 stars
