5-star Korean style fried chicken on deck!! This place is legit! I'm so damn happy we have this here in Santa Clara. This beats Bon Chon, 99, and Vons. Once you come and try their sauce-coated chicken, you'll always want more. This place is huge and has that sports bar feel of Smoke Eaters accept its Korean chicken wings, Soju drinks, and traditional Korean tapas. They have a salad bar that consists of radish, coleslaw, pickles, kimchi, rice, etc. it's all included once you dine in. We ordered a large batch of chicken wings; Spicy Soy and Garlic. The sauce on the wings were just right! It wasn't overdone and what I liked about it was that they were crispy and pretty meaty. My bf and I came here a few days ago for dinner and we ordered their small soy garlic chicken with garlic parmesan fries. The soy garlic was a little expensive... since it was $15 for only 8 pieces. The garlic parmesan was $4.99 and it was alright. What was nice is that they have rice and a little salad bar with corn, celery, kimchi, etc and that is all on the house. The chicken was good, but it was a little too saucy for me. I definitely prefer bonchon's chicken, but I really like how ChiMek offers way more food variety than bonchon. ChiMek also provides rice where as bonchon only gives you coleslaw which is blehhhhh. I will definitely come back and try their other flavors for chicken and I really want to try their honey butter fries. Chimek hits the spot when you're craving Korean chicken and drinks. I came here pretty often before COVID hit and service was always great. They also have a 10% off check in deal. I recently ordered take out, and I got the flame tossed chicken and dry rub fries. I ordered on their website through Grubhub and got $5 off my first order. My order was ready in 15 minutes, and pick up was a breeze. They gave me plenty of pickled radish and ketchup so that was great. We showed up at around 12:15 AM on Saturday, January 25th & were seated right away. I was starving so I decided to order everything; well, almost everything. We started off with an order of fried calamari. I asked to have it mild since I was planning on feeding some to my daughter, but the sauce was pretty spicy even for us adults. Luckily, my daughter didn't care for it much. It was actually pretty greasy so I didn't like it too much either. I got an order of the seafood soondubu to share with my brother-in-law. At first, we thought of getting one each since the waiter said it was a small serving; but I thought we should taste it first to see if it was worth getting two orders. Good thing we only got one since the seafood was just made of flour. Flavor was decent, but fake seafood is unacceptable! The tteokbokki was super sweet and not very enjoyable. The soy garlic wings were ok. A little on the dry side. The garlic permesan wings were nice & moist, but on the salty side. Service was friendly. Def one of my fav spots in the area for KFC. But yo their dry rub fries with a generous dusting of Sour Cream Cheddar powder is the winner. I almost snorted the crumbs. Get them. I might just go there right now for more. The fried chicken is solid, tho I'm still figuring out which flavor to get...or just do original style where you can select the heat level. On our last visit, the wife and I shared a small order (9-ish hearty pieces) of the Sweet & Spicy. They were good but leaned more sweet than spicy. Next time I'd ask for more heat, if possible. After passing by Chimek numerous times, we finally went. Delicious food, GREAT service and fun atmosphere. We ordered two small plates of chicken: extra crispy mild and soy garlic mild in addition to fries with a dry rub of Parmesan and garlic. Delicious Chicken!! My daughter and I went here today for. Korean fried chicken snack. We ordered two types: Soy Garlic and Sweet Spicy Both were very very delicious! The chicken wings were perfectly cooked and were hot in temperature. We didn't specify how how we wanted since were want to truly taste the chicken. The Soy Garlic was covered with a Sweet Soy sauce with tiny bits of garlic covering the pieces. Very tender and delicious! Slightly sweet with a hint of garlic. Had a craving for some KFC (korean fried chicken) and beer! Heard some good things about ChiMek so we headed over there on a Friday night. Since it was a Friday night..and places like this (thinking of 99 Chicken) are normally packed..we called ahead to see how long it would take to get seated. The girl who picked up basically was like, "uh there's no wait.." in a breezy tone. Lol OK, I guess they don't normally have a full house. My bad. The restaurant/bar is pretty nice. Plenty of regular table seating as well as high top tables and I was surprised to see an actual bar in the back! They had flat screens on every corner too. We got seated at a high top table and we ordered.. MOZZARELLA STICKS $5.99 -the little chunks of mozzarella sticks came out freshly deep fried with a side of marinara sauce. Not good though...the cheese wasn't gooey and stretchy like mozzarella sticks should be! It kinda reminded of cheese curds. DRY RUB FRIES $5.99 -fries with garlic parmesan powder. Other option of spicy bbq curry, honey butter or sour cream with cheddar cheese. This was the best thing we had. The fries were crispy.. I just didn't like how the garlic parmesan was super grainy looking. COMBO 2 $46.99 -small original style chicken (usually 7-8 pieces) + small flavored chicken + pitcher of craft beer. For the original style, we got Crispy Fried Chicken: extra-battered twice fried, HOT. Not good. Their take on HOT is basically chili sambal/chili garlic sauce all over the wings. Which means the crispy fried chicken is no longer crispy from the thick, unappealing red layer of chili sambal. For the flavored chicken, we got Soy Garlic: fried chicken with essence of soy garlic sauce. This was okay, kind of salty. Both types of chicken came out hot but dry. For the craft beer, we got a pitcher of Blue Moon. Angela was our server and she was just...cold. Kinda awkward and not friendly. After she took our order, she was just not really around and became oblivious to our table until the food was ready. We were expecting our beer first but it never came and she started bringing out our mozzarella sticks and fries. My fiancé had to wave a different, friendlier server down to let her know that we didn't get our beer yet and she went to to grab it for us herself. We then headed over to the self serve Salad Bar. This was another reason why I wanted to go there because I thought of 99 Chicken's salad bar but man did ChiMek's did not live up to it. Yes, they have more selection but everything was not fresh! Even the popcorn from the popcorn machine was cold and somewhat old. The Salad Bar consisted of: lettuce leaves, coleslaw, dried up baby carrots, pickled radish, canned jalapeños & pineapple chunks, jarred kimchi and canned corn. Sounds fresh right? They also had a self serve rice cooker and sauces. Meh meh meh. Don't think we'll ever come back anytime soon! Maybe for Happy Hour if we're ever in the area. It's available everyday 5pm-6pm and 10pm-midnight. But you only get a discount on french fries, onion rings, dry rub fries, craft/draft beer and soju. Oh and when we walked in..saw plenty of signs around the restaurant as well as inside the restaurant warning patrons about leaving valuables in cars and getting broken into. Most importantly, the wings are far better and sides (kimchi, cole slaw, celeries, corns, pop corns, steamed rice, etc.) free. The tap selection was impressive too. Yes, the deco was, er, scrappy. But so was the price. They lightly floured the wings before deep-frying to perfection. The wings were crispy on the outside and tender piping hot inside. The table had plastic gloves and a tub for bones and napkins. The dry-rub spicy BBQ curry was my favorite. Followed by the best selling soy garlic. It seemed like they were a little understaffed. We ordered the soy garlic fried chicken, extra battered twice fried chicken, and the super tteokbokki. The garlic fried chicken was good with lots of flavor. We got the extra battered chicken mild at the suggestion of the waiter and it was quite plain. We probably won't get this again. The "meh i've experienced better" interpretation that Yelp shows when selecting 2 stars certainly holds true for ChiMek. I have had a lot of Korean Fried Chicken, and sadly ChiMek is one of the worst. It's still much better than most American options, hence 2 stars, but I can't really give 3. Also as an FYI this is based on delivery via Uber Eats. I would have used Yelp/GrubHub but the UI was broken and I couldn't complete my order despite trying over and over. Hey Yelp, maybe fix that? To build my credibility, one quick fact - I've had Korean Fried Chicken in Seoul many, many times. It's the best fried chicken anywhere, I totally think Korea nailed the entire experience. But ChiMek falls far short of the real deal, and doesn't even live up to other local options like Bonchon. Atypically I had a Sunday afternoon to myself, and as I haven't been to Korea since last year, I decided I was in the mood to try some fried chicken. I've had Bonchon 5 or 6 times and while it's good, I can safely say in Seoul it would probably go out of business due to being too soggy, not having enough options, and not being juicy enough. If this makes it sound like fried chicken in Korea is insanely better than what we get in the US, yes, that is 100% accurate. It's also about half the cost and they will literally deliver it to you anywhere. And there are no tips expected or even accepted. Anyway, I ordered a small crispy fried bone-in chicken mild, a small boneless fried chicken very hot, sour cream with cheddar cheese chicken, and a spicy kimchi pancake. I didn't expect to eat it all so shut up, I figured I'd get 2 meals. So compared to the real deal in Korea, the chicken arrives much colder and much soggier. There was minimal crispiness, which in Seoul is absolutely untrue. In Korea, the crispy chicken is still shatteringly crisp, so I assume they use a different batter, have a better logistics system to deliver it, or maybe ChiMek just didn't do a good job in the first place. Hard to say. The mild chicken was not mild, it was flavorless. It really seemed like Safeway-quality chicken and I was not impressed. The spicy chicken was pretty spicy, maybe 7/10, but it was soggy and not very hot. So again this was ok but not great. The sour cream and cheddar chicken... well, I should preface this by saying cheese-dusted fried chicken is a common menu item in Korea, and it's fantastic. It's very unique and served with a delicious sweet sour cream dipping sauce that's probably terrible for your health but tastes amazing together. This was not that. The chicken was still bland, and the soggy end result meant the cheese dust was more like clumps of whatever it is they used. Meh. Taste was ok but again, just not up to snuff. The spicy kimchi pancake was good, I will give them that. It got a little soggy but taste was on point and they provided a generous amount of dipping sauce. I am a pajeon fanatic, I try to eat as much as I can in Korea when I visit, and this did hit the spot. Overall though, for $77, the lackluster chicken and good-but-soggy pancake were not really worth it. Maybe dine-in is better, but who knows when that will ever be available again. As-is I was really excited because "chimek" is the korean term for fried chicken and beer ("maek-ju"). Sadly this is not the case, and while it sort of hit the spot, I don't think I'd order again. read more

Been going here for 5+ years now. Used to be great big chicken wings and drumsticks that were sauced well and cooked right! Pandemic's really been rough on the food quality. Nowadays the size of each wing/drumstick are miniscule and there's little meat on the bones and the sauce isn't doing it like it used to. I've gone here four times since the pandemic started and the quality has always been much lower than before. I must have been living under a rock to not have found this place any sooner. Once I figured out that there is so much more Korean dishes out there other than hotpot and bbq, my life has changed. I never found out about Tteokbokki until a recent visit to this Korean street food place that I was on a mission to find all the places that served it. Which is how I found this place. I can't believe I have been eating Ramen next door for years and never tried this place. The dishes we ordered here were so yummy that I made my friends come back with us the same week. I love the vibe here, great for late night with drinks. They have a salad bar which is free sides, rice and popcorn. We ordered the honey butter chicken. To my surprised, I loved it. My wings were so undercooked that the meat was pink, juices were pink, so.. unsafe and inedible. Yummy korean fried chicken! This place is defintely better than Bonchon, and just as good as the fried chicken from 99 Chicken on El Camino. The wait here has never been too bad. I always get the sour cream & cheese fries and a large serving of their flame tossed fried chicken. My favorite flavor is their sweet and sour. They have a salad bar that has rice, coleslaw, corn and radishes. Quality of the food is very good as the chicken doesn't taste old and comes out very hot. Service has generally been good. We were accommodated by this only lady server and we requested for the corner table which I think she didn't like at all that we requested for it. I was looking for a chicken place that could accommodate for a group of 10 or more, chill atmosphere and decent noise level. We decided to give this place a try based on reviews and photos. Our group ordered a variety of the specials Flavored Fried Chicken to share: Soy Garlic, Sweet & Spicy, Honey Buffalo. Even though it says spicy, they only have one level, it's medium. If you are a spicy eater, it may not be spicy enough for you, but for me, it was fine since I'm a light weight. The large sizes come mixed with wings and drumsticks, and portion was ok. Since they only have wings, if you are desiring breast meat or thigh, then other places would be better. I prefer Vons for my Korean fried chicken cravings, but they are always full and have less seating, not as good for groups. I ordered the fried chicken (lightly battered, twice fried), crispy fried chicken (extra battered, twice fried), and the sweet and spicy. Even though I live relatively close to the restaurant, by the time I brought it home, the undressed chicken were all hardened. The sweet and spicy was too sweet and not spicy whatsoever. For that price, I felt like I could get a decent dinner for 2 rather than disappointment. I'm not a fan of wasabi, but my boyfriend enjoyed it! When I go with another person, two small orders of fried chicken is enough for us. Side dishes (the ones that I can remember): These are self serve stuff. Rice: basic. Normal. Cole slaw: I LOOOOOOVE THIS. Very refreshing with hot and steamy chicken. Plain lettuce: normal. if you like it, you can get it. Pickled radish: not my favorite. Not the best. I don't like the purple/pink ones. I would prefer the white radish instead. I would pass on this. Kimchi: not my favorite. It's ok. Quite acidic. I still get it anyways because you need kimchi with chicken. I love how this place closes so late compared to other chicken places. I really want to try the appetizers next time. Service: 10/10 normal nice service. Was able to answer questions about chicken and happy hour. Happy hour at 10:30pm the last time I went.
