We enjoyed the sweet and very slightly hot sauce (they were generous with it too, which we prefer--I feel Bonchon runs a bit dry sometimes) and the kimchee fried rice. Service was fine considering all they did was take and bring our orders; all else is self serve. Food came decently fast despite the place being fairly crowded (late Friday night). Only not giving five stars bc 1) the wings were a little tough in spots, I think due to uneven sizing. Also, their sauced wings are definitely low on crunch, so be prepared for that. Lovely flavor though! 2) Also, the kimchee in the fried rice is not as vinegary as I'm used to, so the flavor was not exactly what I expected. First timer on a Tuesday night! My girlfriend and I always drive by Chimek and always say "we need to try this place", but never do... so last night we did! It was pretty empty by the time we arrived (eta 2hrs before closing). By the way people were spaced out you could tell it was busy. Kai (which I freakn love that name) helped us out. He's a really cool dude, friendly, easy to talk to and approachable. I think he could tell we were new to all of this hence the million of questions! Here you can have as much as you likeB The sides are just okay. They seem like they've been out in the open for a while.. or drenched in too much sauce. I think it's random how they serve you complimentary popcorn and these colorful balls that taste like fruit loops with your meal. I personally don't think it goes very well...but I guess they're a good snack while you're watching a game. The wings here are expensive. You can choose to have your chicken boneless, wings, or in drumettes. We ordered a large, half soy garlic/half honey buffalo. A large is only 14 pieces - I counted. I've read in previous reviews that their large size used to have 20-22 wings.. hmm. Our total was about $30 with the 10% Yelp check-in. So it was like $2 a wing. I've been here several times and I've come to a decision that LOL is still better, in terms of flavor and price! The "hot" part of it tastes like generic hot sauce from an American grocery store. c) Do you remember those Burger King cheese fries where you put the powder with the fries, then shake them so the powder covers the fries? These were soggy (maybe as expected from delivery) and their seasoning was almost exactly the same style as that Burger King seasoning, and not much different in taste. Still, this might have been the best part of the order. d) Korean places usually have their own hot sauce for their chicken. I paid extra for 4 ounces of... Sriracha. Since Kula Sushi just had a ridiculous line at 4:30pm, we decided to get to plan B. ChiMek was plan B. So we headed over. In the end, even with the free salad bar, rice and popcorn and the chicken being fairly good, the service could be improved and chicken saucing more distinct. Parking & Location ChiMek is located in the Super Kyopo Plaza on the other side closer to the Lawrence Expy. There is an entrance off of Lawrence which is closer to ChiMek. Interior Felt very cold. I'm sure their aim is for the drinking young crowd who wants to eat chicken and drink alcohol. Though it is very open. Service This is where I wish it was a little better. There were only two girls working today and they're attentive when you order, past that you have to flag them down. I do wish they explained how things went or asked if this was our first time because we didn't understand the protocol. It was definitely more self service than anything including the water which could have been helpful to know instead of sitting at our table in hopes that someone would refill. So remember to grab your own pitcher of water or cups because it's not going to come to you. Menu Pretty much your standard Korean style chicken except much smaller portions. Don't expect Coco Chicken or 99 Chicken sized pieces. They're small drumettes and the meaty part of a wing. The small has 10-12 pieces ($11.99) and the large 20-22 ($21.99). I'm sure they weigh the chicken before cooking it. You don't get much of a discount if you go for a large, so take advantage of picking a couple different flavors instead of one large of one flavor (unless you like only one). There's also a free salad bar, rice and popcorn. I wish the plates were bigger and that there were bigger bowls. The salad bar had cabbage, kim chee, corn, lettuce, radish (which was super sweet and vinegared) but what was kind of gross was that the tongs were kind of sticky. There are also dressing on the side in the squeeze bottles. They do have beer and draft beer as well as soju and flavored soju cocktails. What did we get? We got the soy garlic, chinese style, and honey buffalo. You can choose normal fried or crispy fried. If you want a crunch on your fried chicken, then go for a crispy fried because normal fried won't be enough. I liked the crispy fried as it gave you the feeling that it was a FRIED chicken. The other felt like it wasn't enough. How were the flavors? Between soy garlic and chinese style you cannot tell the difference. You might as well choose a different flavor. I did like the honey buffalo, but it wasn't exceptional and too much buffalo that you can't taste the honey. Overall I won't come back unless I have friends who want to go. We got a combo #2 which came with a choice of either crispy or fried chicken (spicy or regular) and a flavored chicken and a choice of beer. The interior also looks really nice; everything looks clean. onto the food... the pieces of chicken are pretty small, but honestly our 'small' came with 14 pieces, which i thought was enough. I'm a sucker for soy garlic flavors anywhere, whether it be Bon Chon, 99 Chicken, or whatever else place I've tried HAHAH, so that's what I ordered. It was really juicy! And a little tiny bit spicy. A bunch of us came here on a weekend and we were quite pleased by the food served. The menu selection is quite varied and we got a wide range of wings and dishes. What was really great was the fact that they have a small all-you-can-eat salad bar including rice and popcorn. First, they need better signage. Coming from Homestead there's no way you could see this place. We drove into the Misoya parking lot, didn't find it, took another detour until we finally found it off Lawrence, around corner from Misoya. Thankfully, there wasn't much of a wait. We ordered a large Fried Chicken, half Sweet & Spicy, half Soy Garlic flavored. Both weren't very flavorful. It wasn't due to lack of sauce because the amount was fine, but the sauce themselves left much to be desired. Cheap BBQ sauce has more flavor. There's also no selection in the types of pieces of chicken. All were small wing parts, no option for drumsticks if that's what you prefer. It seems like other reviewers find the free banchan a draw but 1) I can live without sides like coleslaw, corn, and pickled daikon 2) the quality was incredibly low but not surprising considering it's free and serve yourself in an open side bar. The sides tasted like they had been sitting for a while. The thought of free fries sounded great, but they were cold. I'd rather pay for freshly fried fries and a choice of type of fries. I had to take the time to write this review today. Super disappointed in the customer service at this place. I placed an order on GrubHub for the lunch box. There is an option to add additional items. I ordered the pork and added bulgogi and chicken for $3.00 each additional item. My credit card was charged and then a text came to me. It said my order would be ready by 12:45-12:55. I arrived about 1:07 and a person was behind the counter, but did not greet me and went into the back. A few minutes later, a man with a ponytail came up carrying boxes. I explained to him that I was there to pick up an order. I gave him my name and he said he didn't have anything for me. I told him I just received a text message and I went to my car to show him my text and the charge on my credit card. He then said he had found my order but it was cancelled. I asked him how it was cancelled when my account was charged. He said "I cancelled it". To my surprise I was very confused. I asked him why. He said that they don't do 3 proteins for a lunch box. And I explained to him GrubHub gave that option online, so shouldn't he have called me to tell me he cancelled it!? He said "No, GrubHub is unrealistic with the menu!" I looked at him very puzzled and confused. I told him "aren't you the business, wouldn't you be in charge of what GrubHub does with your menu?" He said "No, that's on them!"... At this point he was getting pretty upset and I explained that he should have called me since he cancelled my order. He said "No! I'm not gonna call you. They needed to tell you it was cancelled." The lack of concern that he had that I had driven there on my lunch hour, during a pandemic, with TONS of other options in the area for dining, didn't sit well with me. His arrogance in his response was even worse. He didn't apologize and didn't offer me to order something else. And... come to find out, these are the same options listed on their to-go menu. So this error is not just GrubHub related. It is on their own literature that is given to customers every day. I only tried the Soy Garlic Chicken when I came here and I really enjoyed it! It was delicious with just the right amount of seasoning and perfect amount of crispness! My only complaint is that it was very pricy for only 7-8 pieces. It came out around $19 just for that. If you dont mind the price, I'd recommend trying it out cause the taste is perfect! Stopped by late at night after work with some coworkers. We ordered some chicken, tteokbokki, and calamari. I didn't have any chicken but my coworkers seemed to enjoy the flavor and texture. The tteokbokki was tasty but barely had any rice cakes! I swear there were legit like 7 pieces of rice cake. There were even more fish cakes than there were rice cakes lol. The calamari was really yummy, a huge portion, and the sauce it came with was bomb. The salad bar was kinda weird: kimchi and pickled radish was decent, corn absolutely sucked, and what's up with the raw veggies like raw celery? But damn do I appreciate the fresh popped popcorn! Continuously looking for the best places in the South Bay to recommend to friends and clients. If someone wants Asian fried chicken - then dude. We are def coming here. Bc I want to try everything on the menu. We tried Sweet and Spicy and The Soy Garlic. My fiancé liked the soy garlic more. I liked the sweet and spicy more.
