We ordered, Beef Chow Mein, General Tso's Chicken, Szechuan Tofu, Honey Walnut Shrimp, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. While the portions were generous, Beef Chow Mein was very salty. Not enough smokiness, maybe they went overboard on soy sauce? General Tso's chicken was very dry, tough to chew. Sweet and Sour Chicken was very soggy. Honey Walnut Shrimp was swimming in sauce, which didn't taste good. All the meat dishes had some sort of "canned food" quality to it. Didn't taste terrible but didn't taste good either. Szechuan tofu was the only decent thing that had a nice spice to it. Service was good and ambiance was very hole-in-the-wall, casual. Only good thing about this place is price of the food, as cliche as this sounds but you probably get bigger quality food at Panda Express. read more

Not happy with what I got tonight! I've eaten here before and the food is good but tonight I got take out and everything was shoved into one small container. My egg roll soaked up all the juices from the fried rice and the garlic shrimp basically ruining the egg roll. Everything leaked out of the damned bag leaving a big mess for me. China Chef in Fernley isnt your upscale Chinese restaurant, is it bad? Is it good? I'll explain some bad some goods that this local place has going for it. On any given night your experience may go from Great to Worst like that! My recent visit wasn't too bad because I've had an idea and know what to expect so I'll share a few opinions on what has happen in some of my previous visits so your prepared if you ever find yourself here for a Chinese dinner. Now by looking at the menu, the menu is laid out and is pretty self explanatory as most menu should be. I like how everything is laid out an has a description and a price. But if your dining out with 2-4 people I'd recommend the Schezwan Dinner (Wor Wonton Soup, Egg Rolls, Foil wrapped Chicken, Krab Ragoons and your choice of an entree) not bad for I think its $11-13 a person. That's about what I order when my wife an I go out. The Staff, so I've had the pleasure of dealing with a few hostess/waiter/waitress here now I've had issues with about all of them nothing to bad but one did basically skip us while bringing out food an made us wait about 45min to an hour after repeatedly telling us "oh your food will be right out" but nothing never showed to one asking us if we'd like to experience pouring soup for ourselves. I found that to be kinda humorous actually but after all they didnt. To Express my overall I opinion about the establishment I'd say if your a local an am looking for a Chinese food place then yes! I'd recommend here over the others in town. But if your heading towards Reno, I'd probably wait til getting out into that area. read more

I'm from out of town and always want to try new Chinese food restaurants. I was told by the locals this is the "Go To" for Chinese food. I arrived during the lunch rush hour and it was packed with locals. I was kindly greeted and seated with menu in hand and water served. I ordered the broccoli beef lunch special with a recommendation of choosing the chow mein as the side. This order came with a bowel of hot egg drop soup. Despite being hot which I love the broth had an off putting taste, It could very well be the type of chicken stock they use I'm not sure 2/10. The lunch plate was a very large serving and the broccoli was nice and crunchy and the beef very tender maybe a little to thickly sliced for my personal liking. It had a slightly sweet undertone, but I would order again solely based off the broccoli and sauce they use to cook this entree 7/10. The chow mein was very flavorful and Smokey. The noodles had a nice chew and the vegetables had a slight crunch 8/10. I would like to try their fried rice next time. I am going to try their lunch special again this week before I head out of town but I do see a difference between their competitors in this town and why the locals Love It! Absolutely hands down the best Chinese food in Fernley! Always hot and fresh. They have Sriracha and hot mustard and Chile oil sauces. My faves are sweet sour 2 flavor, Szechuan shrimp, krab rangoons, crispy shrimp, war wonton soup and bbq spareribs. Glass of wine for $4. Had this for dinner for the first last night. Wasn't bad at all. The fried rice was really good and had very good flavor. I also got cashew chicken. It was alright but was definitely lacking the chicken. I always give a place 2 shots to impress my taste buds. So will try again and update my review after that. Update: fast forward 11 years and we gave this place another try. My daughter (super picky) loves the chow mein noodles (plain of course). My husband likes the pork fried rice. We also really like the pot stickers. They appear to be made fresh and have a great flavor. The dipping sauce is my favorite! We now order from here about once a month. read more

Upon walking into the restaurant, I really liked the atmosphere and the hostess immediately engaged us in conversation and introduced us to the restaurant. I paid for our food and brought it home. I like to come here to order egg rolls and crab rangoon when I get the craving. I like the fact that they have rice noodles which I have gotten once before. It is hard to find Chinese cuisine that offers it. Their online menu is different from the more expensive one in the store, so watch out for that. Their prices are a bit high for buffet style Chinese cuisine. Everything is either deep fried or fried in a wok with sauces. They charge too much for their quality, nonetheless when I want a greasy crab rangoon I will make my way over. Lol read more
