I went there last night with my son. We like the food. It's actually really good. Last time I ate there a couple months ago I had stomach issues. I did not attribute it to this place because we're in the flu season. I went again last night with my son, and I noticed some thing when I went to get stirfry at the Mongolian Grill. I didn't think anything of it because I thought it was temporary. I ate my stirfry, I went and got some other things from the Buffay made a couple trips and then went back one more time. About 30 minutes later for more stirfry, and I noticed the same crab legs Were sitting in a bin unrefrigerated without ice. I got home and have more stomach problems today. They don't keep things to temperature. I'm going to let the health department know and send them this as well. New price as of august 6, 2022 (price went up, no surprises there). Food is decent, not too salty like many other buffets. Hibachi grill is good. Sushi rolls get 1 star so don't eat sushi. Horrible! No way this restaurant can pass a health inspection. Dirty water cups, the hot food was warm at best. The atmosphere was horrible, just not a great experience. If I wasn't with a group of coworkers, I would have walked out. The good, the waiter kept our glasses full and cleaned the table as soon as we finished. He was very polite, and wasn't rude. We're doing our best to help local restaurants, since all of them went through a great loss during the pandemic, however at this particular place we were no pleased by the temperature of the food (it was barely warm and the green beans were very waxed). I tried the chicken wings. Once I returned to my table I saw something on of the wings (picture attached). It was not an appetizing site. I told the waitress and she said she didn't know what it was. While paying for our food the manager said it was feathers and it was delivered that way. I think the kitchen staff should properly check all the food. read more

I was passing through and saw this restaurant with plenty of parking. If you have been to East Buffet on FM-1960 in Houston, then this place looks almost exactly like it. As you enter you are greeted by a nice person that will lead you to your seat in a large dining room. There is plenty of seating and TVs to watch. I ordered the buffet to go which is $5.95 a pound and my clam weighed a little over a pound which came to about $7.40. I didn't order a drink. You must go through the large dining area to actually get to the buffet dishes. About the food: They had a few unique dishes like the black (midnight blue) and clear Jello. They tasted like blueberry and lychee. They also had sliced Dikon radish that was food colored, but it did a disservice to the flavor. Their salad was crispy and only had iceberg and string carrots. I opted to add on other items to the salad like the delicious spicy seaweed, and cucumbers. They added the end of one cucumber which I didn't think added value to it. Their string beans, mushrooms and watermelon were ok, and so was their sparsely vegged lo mein and General Gao. The crab Rangoon (cheese puff) center tasted very good, but the crust tasted like it was fried in old oil. Maybe next time it will taste fresh. I was amused by the presentation of it at the bar though. It overflowed, and apparently a local favorite. The sesame ball must have been my favorite today. It was interesting that most balls were a little deflated so you can see some of the red bean center presses out. It was a soft and delicious dessert for sure. I was in the go, so I didn't get a chance to try everything including the Mongolian grill. I tend to disagree with most about this location, but I felt as a buffet it wasn't the worst I have eaten. This shouldn't really come as a surprise given that it's a buffet and all, but I thought that even by those standards it fell pretty woefully short of the mark. All of the main entre type dishes were pretty bland & the meat quality was superrr questionable. I had beef that was so tough it was completely inedible and chicken that gave way into a mush-like quality after the slightest bit of chewing. First time back since they reopened last month. I didn't really notice any changes to the menu, but overall, the buffet counters seemed to be much cleaner. Maybe the main changes took place in the kitchen. Forgot to take pics when we stopped by to get their buffet to-go for lunch on Friday. We love their Mongolian BBQ option. You fill up your plate with your choice of noodles, meat, veggies and sauces and they cook up for you. The buffet was quite messy when we visited and the fried options (pot stickers, fried wings, egg rolls, etc) looked quite dried out. When you pick-up their buffet to-go you grab a container, fill it to your liking and pay based on weight. Walking in it felt exciting seeing items for sale and seeing how many people kept coming in and walking out. I thought ok this place is going to be good! It's been a good year since I've been to a buffet and today reminded why I don't go..! We were a party of 7 adults, 3 kids and let me say we got seated pretty quick and we're helped really fast! Table and chairs were so sticky and old, the carpet was so dark and dirty. The register area had large trash cans where the waitresses would throw out plates and plates of food, when you walked by you could smell a musty smell that wasn't very appetizing on your way to the buffet. I felt there was a good selection and loved the Mongolian grill they had, veggies looked fresh but something about seeing the meat in blood grossed me out. My first plate was the usual noodles, rice, broccoli beef and egg roll. Noodles tasted like spaghetti noodles, nothing special and the broccoli beef was a huge disappointment, the meat was so chewy and tough I ended up spitting it out. Egg roll and rice were pretty good but everything else was very mediocre at best. For the price I expected better! read more

Let's face it. Chinese buffets are not usually the highest-end and best serviced places to eat but anyone that gives this place less than 3 stars is completely out of touch with reality. I've been in the Austin area for over 30 years and there have been 3 MAYBE 4 good chinese buffets and two of them have been out of business for years. This one has risen from the ashes twice and is still the most popular north Austin and out. The have the largest selection, an attentive waitstaff and a very good sushi section. The food is consistently good and the environment is fine for what it is. A very busy all-you-can-eat buffet. In the area - it is top 2 if not the best. read more

Sanitary-wise don't look too close at ice cream area. They were too cheap to put in proper drain and pipe cover fixtures (or at least pour epoxy over cleaned pipes) at scoop wash. So you got wet bare pipe growing slime mold at faucet. Plus the big "public reach in" barrels of ice cream lead to questionable sanitation in COVID times. Soft serve or at least smaller serving containers would ease sanitation issues. Other than that employees did well to keep things reasonably clean at massive Sunday buffet. Unfortunately if you learned Americanized Chinese food anywhere else but central Texas you are probably going to be disappointed in the taste versus cost. Really only 2.5 stars due to Chinese side. Sushi-Mongolian side is probably better as Sushi is uncooked and Mongolian is cooked right in front of you. But Chinese side suffers from too much pressure cooking and steaming of ingredients then pouring sauce on at last moment. This does allow them to rapidly provide mass quantities of warm food but its pretty bland. Steam tables keep it warm but don't improve flavor. Only the General Tso's and Honey chicken seemed like it was mostly stir fried for finishing stage. Still only mediocre. But with BBQ and spicy Mexican food so dominating in the area, bland may well be what the general public is looking for in an alternative cuisine. I absolutely don't understand how this place is in business. I've read the reviews and gave it a try. Let's start out, general sous chicken, tasted like and was the texture of the heb bagged chicken cooked by chef Mike. Teriyaki chicken was decent but very salty. Fried rice was good. Soups were mislabeled. I figured it out but it was bland. I'm not a sushi person so didn't eat, looked decent... I love crawfish but it was mushy along with any pork dishes. If you see a beef steak strip, stay away unless you want chewiness. I so wanted a decent Chinese buffet but this made me sick half way through. I just can't understand how people eat here. read more

Incredible service. They were so kind to us! Especially during the ice storm we had, they were thankfully open and happy to have us. We love their Lo Mein noodles! We ate two full plates of them! And the General Tso chicken was so good! The beef broccoli was cooked perfectly and the crab Rangoon's were packed and tasted great! Our wait or was nice but he did not add the senior discount for my grandmother to the check after we had already told him. The sushi was messy and poorly made and the crab did not look right. This was Ye Star before their permit got revoked. Tried it last night to see if new management is better. First of all the service from the staffers were good, very attentive, however, most of them hardly speak English. I saw a piece of cake, 1/2 eaten, that was left back in the desert tray, I told the young man who was making sushi, that it had to go. He did not understand me. I had to use hand gesture to show him that was not acceptable to have half eaten food in the food trays. He threw it away but using the same thongs in the tray. New management needs give more training in food handling. Otherwise, the food menu was pretty much the same as before. Taste was ok but not better. The hot & sour soup was just as bland as before. Someone really needs to taste it before putting it out, not enough pepper and vinegar. Still has the similar clientele, young kids banging on the booths, rocking the booths, you can't hardly have a quiet, uninterrupted meal. Seat at the tables, at least nobody is going to rock your chair. We will wait a little while before deciding to go back not. read more

Note that this place was shut down by the health department in 2018. They re-opened in late 2018 with a new name (formerly "Ye Star Buffet"), but the staff seems to be mostly to all the same, and the food offerings are mostly to exactly identical. It's average, nothing special. I subtracted a star because they don't make even a token effort to accommodate vegetarians. There's barely anything veggie-friendly here. The old Ye Star wasn't great in that regard either, but at least then every dish was labeled. Now, only about half of them are. The only real options besides the fruit bar are vegetable egg rolls, greasy wedge potatoes, greasy lo mein, greasy mushrooms, and cabbage. Great collection of food to abuse your body with. The sushi isn't the greatest but it's a Buffett so it's not like our money is really fairly going toward top grade sushi supply.
