This use to be our go-to place. We ordered almost $50 worth of food. Beef fried rice, chicken fried rice, ham fried rice and it's no longer the typical flavorful dish. The color is now yellow, little to no flavor with little meat. Chicken lomein was super salty with a heavy "fishy" flavor. The crab Rangoon was overly sweet as well. Very disappointed. Sub-par for this restaurant. A combo plate of sweet and sour chicken was mostly breaded with a tiny piece of meat inside the tempura batter. What happened? New cook? Clean space, great food and very low prices! I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a weeknight meal for the family. Tonight was my first visit and I will be back. I ordered ahead. When arrived 25mins later the order was ready and waiting. The space is small but clean. The food was very tasty. I am a Chinese connoisseur. I've had Chinese in St Louis from everywhere from Frontenac to funky town. the best that I have found any where is China house in Bridgeton. the restaurant seems very clean, you can watch them cook your food, and it taste remarkable. if you're ordering food at lunch time, phone ahead or you'll have to wait. the portion sizes are huge. The first time I ordered a combo plate I asked them if I had the right order because it was so large. bottom line is I'm glad I found this place because good and consistent Chinese is hard to find. read more

This is probably my least favorite chimes place in the area. They didn't have that many shrimp or veggie options. The crab rangoon is along the lines of some of the worst I have had. It is mainly just the fried part with very little filling...I guess you get what you pay for. I think we have tried every Chinese restaurant in the St. Ann/Bridgeton area, and China House is by far our favorite. Absolutely the best fried rice in the area. Most of the time we call our takeout orders in, but usually if we just walk in we'll head next door to Schnucks to browse through the Redbox while we're waiting. My boyfriend and I stumbled upon this place one night. When we first walked in we weren't sure. It's a tiny place with only 5 or 6 tables (so definitely more of a take-out place) and they were almost all dirty. There was only 1 other customer there. We looked at the menu for a min. Prices looked reasonable. As we looked, we noticed the phone rang a lot (ok, good sign, many to-go orders being placed). Then people started to come in to pick-up and place orders and we thought, ok, must be pretty popular, let try it out. We ordered the basic, crab Rangoon, beef and broccoli, and sweet and sour chicken. Can't mess those up right? You get plenty of food for the price and it was delicious. Normally don't have an issue with this place. It actually used to be my favorite. However this time is another story. I had ordered the same thing I usually do, boneless hot braised chicken combination platter. As I was eating it I found a strip of metal mixed in with the food, it's about the length of a razor blade but thinner and more flimsy. Not your typical STL Chinese. A lot less greasy but they give huge portions and the quality is good. Food is alerts piping hot and I'm in love with the fried dumplings. Egg rolls are not good at all but everything else is good. Combination plates are worth the $6 and can become two meals depending on how you eat. read more

We have had take-out from this place a couple times so far. It is decent for the price and quantity you get in the combination meals, but it's by no means the highest of quality. We come to this establishment when we want a lot of Chinese food cheap. I liked the sweet and sour chicken and egg roll. White rice and egg drop soup are fine as well. Soup is only $1. My husband likes having lo mein as a combination plates, because he can get it with fried rice for a low price, which not all places have. The to-go styrofoam boxes for the combination plates are quite heavy and packed pull. Combination plates come with pork fried rice and 2 crab rangoon, rather than giving the option of white rice and egg roll. There are non-combo plates in half or whole sizes that come with a much smaller amount of white rice. They did not give us fortune cookies the last time, but it's not a major concern for us. You can eat inside. There are several tables, but it's been empty except for pick up orders when we've gone. They are more geared toward to-go orders with their few tables and blank walls. Very good, especially for the price! I was staying at a hotel nearby, and saw it was within walking distance (if you are staying in one of those hotels, it's about a 5 minute or less walk, and you don't have to go all the way to saint charles rock rd, you can cut through the home depot parking lot). By the time I made the order, walked over, they had it just about ready, just another minute or two wait. When I got there, there was 5 or 6 tables, but mostly filled with people just waiting for their food. I don't think they offer table service. There was 5 or 6 guys in the back hard at work and making a long line of carry-out orders, so the place is obviously pretty popular. I didn't have the menu, but if you look at the photos someone took a picture of the menu a few years ago. Prices were slightly more, like 50-75 cents more than pictures but otherwise seemed pretty much the same. I ordered $9 worth of food... a whole order of the orange flavored chicken, and a bowl of hot and sour soup. I feel like I got enough for at least two or three meals, glad the hotel has a fridge! The bag was HEAVY... lots of food in there! Food itself is very good and obviously cooked fresh. The hot and sour soup is not my favorite I've ever had, but still easily a four star item. Fabulous food. Don't worry about atmosphere, table service or presentation because this ain't P.F. Chang's. That being said, if you want delicious, cooked to order fresh food, this is your place. I had the Kung Pau Chicken and it was fantastic. The portions are enormous and not even 6'2" hungry me could finish. I had to take it home. My son got the Lo Mein Noodles with braised shrimp which also looked excellent. We ate there but the orientation is for take out. They have a few tables you can eat at, but you get those little plastic forks which bend with the heat of your fresh cooked meal. I didn't see any chopsticks. Drinks are out of a cooler and come in bottles or cans. We ate there which was a lot of fun. It is an ethnically diverse area so all sorts of people from all strata of society were in and out while we ate. Everyone was there for one thing: Great food at a very reasonable price. I live across the bridge in St. Peters and we will go to China House when we would like some really good Chinese food. But we got home, the food was very disappointing. The color of the rice was golden and there were basically hardly any meat in our rice. I order 3 whole boxes of ham fried rice and beef fried rice. Food and servings are great and delish. I have ordered chicken and broccoli, hot braised boneless chicken and the chicken with black bean sauce. All really good with large portions. I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the sucky customer service. Get the customer service together and they would get 5 stars across the board. That's the only thing that this spot is missing. Overlook that and you will be golden. Oh and check your to-go order before they leave. I haven't had issues but they put it on the wall that once you leave they aren't responsible so I would suggest checking your order to make sure it's right otherwise you may be stuck with something that you didn't order. I should have guessed when people said it was cheap. But with so many good reviews I wanted to try. I waited 30 minutes for take out, which is fine because it usually means it's good. But when I got home I figured out why it was so cheap. They use dark meat chicken, which caused the sesame chicken to be chewy and gross. I also got the pepper chicken which was more like sugar chicken, all covered in sugar or something awful. Fried rice was hard and not cooked. The best part had to be the cream cheese wontons. Hands down the best Chinese take out in the area. Food is very good and the portions are literally twice the size as anywhere around at a great price. Combos available anytime and less than $7 with tax. Typical combo is enough for two or even 3 adults. Had to bring entire order back because the chicken was pink. The young kid working the counter never offered a new entree. I simply had to ask myself and of course, this was the biggest inconvenience. The pricing is excellent if your looking for Chinese food on a budget. Coming from Seattle and eating Chinese food, viet, Thai, Indian, Cambodian, Malay and everything inbetween, this was by far the worst Asian food I've ever had. While Chinese food is maybe not as flavorful as other Asian cooking, this wasn't about flavor/spice, it was not edible. Gross. We had the shrimp and vegetable and chicken and vegetable dishes and we had to throw it away after only a few bites. While the veggies were over cooked, that may be a midwestern thing and that's fine but the sauce was so gross...it wasn't even a sauce is was some gooey indescribable nastiness. I'd stay away from here til they get people who can cook! Ps no one seems to eat there as it was all takeaway despite there being tables to eat at. But it was cold inside so be forewarned.
