Low grade dog food. I came here with 2 of my friends and we wanted to share a large plate of food. When we ordered, we told our waitress that the 3 of us are going to share the ____ plate. (I don't remember exactly what we got) So about 15 min later our food arrives and it was a TON of food! we got one plate at first, then 2 then 3. and we kept asking our waitress "all of this is for that $15 plate?" and she kept saying "yes, yes". so we ate most of it. and it wasn't even very good. Like i said "low grade dog food" THEN THE BILL COMES..... it was close to $50! we were shocked because we specifically told her we were sharing the ONE plate of food, so when she brought out 3 plates, we thought she was separating the one dish. Which most restaurants do when people share!!!! We told her that she misunderstood us and we reminded her that we asked her if all this food will be $15 and she said yes! she basically called us liars and said it never happened. the manager yelled at us and said if we didn't pay the bill she'll call the police. I didn't have enough money on me to help cover and so my one friend just threw all the money she had which came out to $50 at her and we stormed out all the while throwing out a few swear words. The manager followed us out to our cars and started taking pictures of us with her camera and taking pictures of our cars!!! we told her to stop because she got her money and all we wanted to do was leave. She kept yelling at us and told us to never come back. To this day every time i pass by that place i cringe at the horrible experience. I understand there was a misunderstanding but the waitress AND the manager should've handled it more professionally than they did. read more

We stayed in Grants Pass one night on our way up to Montana From San Francisco - the Chinese food capital of the world. This is definitely old fashioned Chinese American food. Better than most restaurants I have found on the road - the egg roll is to die for - totally homemade & served with hot mustard & sesame seeds - reminded me of the old chinese restaurant in my home town. we came back here especially for lunch and another egg roll on our way home. I predict the next "foodie" cuisine will be old fashioned Chinese American (Cantonese) as it has been largely replaced by bogus Mandarin style with that ubiquitous brown sauce now read more

My mom loves to get food from here when she's too tired to cook, but I can't for the life of me understand why. It's so gross. Everything is the same color, a weird greyish hue, except for the sweet and sour dishes, which are of course neon orange. We hadn't been there for a number of years. Went on a Sunday afternoon, not crowded. Food was hot, tasty and served quickly. Our waitress was great, checked in with us a few times. Husband enjoyed his dish as did I. The portions are large. As always, it's tough to base a decision on reviews. Different strokes for different folks. Just another typical chinese place nothing special bout it. The general's chicken was better than most and so was the rice it was delicious! Instead of the customary egg flour soup or hot and sour soup they had chicken noodle instead which had great taste but the noodles were as soft as they get way to overcooked. This was a pretty good chinese place the reason why its not getting a four star is because the food took forever like twice as long as it should have, plus the waitress wasn't very attentive. While we waited we went in and played poker on the slot machines that all Oregon bars have which made the wait not nearly as bad cept i lost 20 bucks err. I probably will go back but i sure do hope that the wait for the food isn't nearly as long as it was last time or I might even lose more money!!!!! read more

My favorite Chinese food and Karen is always a hoot to talk to. May not be super authentic, but I grew up on this stuff so I am completely bias. Can't wait to come here everytime I come visit. China Hut is DISGUSTING!!!! They scored an '84' on their Josephine County Health inspection report on December 5, 2017. Anything below a 92-94 is suspect. My friend and I ordered dinner on Sunday, chicken, shrimp, rice and pink sauce....at 4pm, and by 3am we were both sick as could be!!! I woked up thinking I was going to choke on vomitting in my throat and drank little water, cup of milk, and still could not sleep. After vomitting twice in the morning, I decided to call the County Health department and get report on them. So, I then called restaurant and left my name and number, and the owner called back. I simply asked for my $36 dollars back and he said 'NO' and didn't even offer an apology, or say they were sorry for my illness. Instead, he said he would have his Insurance Company call me back. Be aware most chinese and sushi places in Josephine County are very bad and have LOW scores from the health inspection. I'm almost afraid to read the narrative of the inspectors report, but will request a printed copy of it as I've heard of some restaurants setting tubs of chicken and meat on the floor and then lifting them placing them on a cutting table and stacking tubs of meat inside and on top of those, with the dirt, hair, and grime accumulated from being on the floor. yes, that actually happened at a restaurant I read a report on in Salem last year. read more

When we arrived we noticed the place was kind of dirty. After we ordered and had a few cups of tea we noticed several large flies black flies buzzing around the windows and the tables my girlfriend got an American soup with her Chinese dinner combo we expected egg drop soup which is the standard normal thing and got beef noodle soup. I orderd General Tso's chicken which tasted nothing like General Tso's nor did it look like it. Our waitress was very nice and brought it to the attention of the owner who did offer to make me a new dish however after looking at all the flies and re-examining the cleanliness of the restaurant I declined and thought it better not to eat anything there at all. My dog really liked the lemon chicken and fried rice. String beans and pork was edible but definitely could be purchase at Walmart also. We were staying in the hotel next door and just went over for a 'snack'. My husband wanted something spicy so the lady behind the counter confirmed "extra spicy"? He agreed. WHOA! I have never had such spicy Chinese food. If you like spicy you should probably order the regular spicy. This was much better than most fast food Chinese food. The noodles. were superb, not the carby MSG filled noodles you usually get. The wan tons were also great. The spicy beef seemed to have fresh veggies. This place is a no. The rice tasted burned. I asked for all white on the mar far and no it didn't happen. I have never seen a time when at home you can get crumbled grisly chicken. It's weird how Asian places manage that and the clumps of fat in the deep fried chicken. But this place is the worst, on the top of the list worst. Also it has never been updated since I was a kid and I am now in my 40's. So just imagine the kitchen and how run down it is to have such bad food. Imagine the deep fryer by now. Just saying. Dirty and run down but usually the food is OK. My problem is with the day shift wait staff. I was given cold/unappealing soup and I sent it back. First off, the server didn't even bother to ask what the problem was with the soup. As she took it away she said she could bring me different soup for an additional charge. I declined!!! I send back a bowl of inedible garbage and they want to charge me more money to replace it!!! At that point I just wanted to get our food to go and asked for containers. I've grown up eating @ China hut( 30+ years). We go there for special occasions, and when we want a yummy Chinese dinner. When I was growing up this is where I would request my dad take me for birthday dinner. It was a special treat since we were on a limited income. When I go I ask that my food be MSG free and then I don't get sick (of course the Egg Rolls can't be cooked that way but they're the best any way) I have had some trips there that the food wasn't quite as good as the last time, but I think that has to do w/ who is the cook for the evening. All of the staff there are nice and friendly. My favorite food to eat there is the fried shrimp and pork fried rice w/ the pink sauce, egg rolls and the Happy family. Yuuuummmyyy! read more

Owner is great. We often show up late at night. We didn't come in for a while and when we walked in the owner yelled at us, asking where we'd been. This is good old fashioned American Chinese food. This is old time Chinese food. We had two of the very reasonably priced specials - chow mein and chicken cashew nut. The vegetables in the chicken dish were very fresh and crisp.and the chow mein was good. You are served an enormous amount of food - we took containers home for dinner. I really like that pink sauce. This place is filthy. Should have been first clue. Ordered beef with broccoli, general tso's chicken,and pork egg foo young, with steamed rice. since we were traveling we thought we would take leftovers as we usually do and what a mistake. After four bites and i had to spit the last one out, the server asked if we were done and would we like boxes? Not hardly and told her how bad the food was she brought the check and said she would send the manager over. Well that did'nt go anywhere. I tried to explain what the problem was, general tso's chicken was over cooked with absolutly no sauce. beef and broccoli was inedible had to spit that out, and never even tried the egg foo young. steamed rice was three days old if it was an hour, cold and pretty much one lump, none of the food was hot. Well this box a rocks wanted to argue with me that there was nothing wrong with the food and she was not going to take anything off the check, so we left $ 59.00 worth of food siting on the table paid and left. omg the soup (daily special) but the only soup written on the menu, tasted like someone had added water to old soup to make it last longer. also, my rice dish tasted like it would have tasted if i had brought home a fresh dish and reheated it three or four days later. i told the waitress and got no price reduction, and no apology, nothing. the waitress just laughed and said she was from Nebraska, and waved at me when we left. don't go, i don't think they care at all!!!! read more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!! wow were do I start. should it be with the bad food or the terrible customer experience prior and during this meal I couldnt even eat. first the wait staff is dressed like they dont care and they are rude. we ordered the crab puffs first. they must have been cooked in oil that as to cold as they didnt puff at all and were greasy. next the soup I got was cold. when I informed the waitress she just looked at me and said "and". the replacement bowl was cold too but I just it sit. When the food came it was just horrible. over cooked, dry, had no flavor what so ever. There were vegetables in dishes that shouldnt. also when you deep fry something you dont drown it in a thin liquid. everybody knows this as it makes the coating gooey and fall off. even the fried rice was horrible. it tasted like the oil was old. at this point we couldnt take it anymore and told the waitress that the food was just horrible and that we didnt want it. we only took a very small taste of everything. maybe one bite of each and trust me that was more then enough to know we didnt want any part of this. I have never walked out on a meal.....ever. And I felt uncomfortable doing so but I paid for the drinks and the crab puffs and left. As my wife and I walked out of the restaurant the older waitress with glasses came outside and loudly said "we dont want you two to ever come back in here again, youre 86'd from this place." to which I responded not to worry, youre food is disgusting why would I want to. Afterwards we stopped at another place down the street called "four seasons" the chinese food there is good, not fabulous but good and in comparison it was amazing. do yourself a favor, spend the extra 25 cents in gas and drive the extra three blocks, go to four seasons and avoid china hut like the plague. read more
