This place only have 2 booth seats that can fit 6 and 3 small tables that can fit 4. We got seated right away since we arrived half an hour before it was open . A real "hole in the wall" restaurant, I had saved Good Shine Kitchen to try with my mom since I noted it has Taiwanese dishes including fried stinky tofu (fermented tofu) that my hubby won't eat ='(...lol! They also sell their own pre-made fresh frozen dumplings as well & make everyone's order as they go...so service was a little bit slow. Mom & I tried: -Stinky Tofu, their sauce is just soy sauce, could use some garlic and chili sauce...but we got some on the side and added it to our own taste. I liked this. Definitely stinks up the space when they're making it, but IYKYK and it's worth the smell, lol. -Pig Ear appetizer, this was good as well. Lots of green onion and cilantro and flavor was perfect. No adjustments needed. -Pork & Leek Dumplings, the filling flavor is already great so you can eat it on its own. We also did make our own dipping sauce though out of personal preference. -Beef Noodle Soup, this was good as well but took the longest to come out so we'd already gotten pretty full off the other dishes. Was looking for a local spot that was still open fairly late and more decent then your fast food joints. The owner lady was very friendly and welcoming. This is definitely a whole in the wall, mama papa spot. Very small and good for a late night meal. Each dish is around 15-20 bucks so if you're eating quit a bit, it can get pricy. We had buck choi, shrimp fried rice, dumplings, orange chicken and chicken chow mein. Everything was pretty good. No complaints. Definitely a local gem, where... if you know, you know. Food - 5/5 - There's a good variety of options but I know this spot is most notable for their Taiwanese cuisine. There's also pre-made frozen dumplings for sale that you can purchase in the freezer. I do believe they make your order as they go when you dine-in house or order a takeaway. A restaurant I have passed by countless times on my way to the library or the park but never stopped in till now. After practice, a teammate mentioned stinky tofu, and I'm pretty sure I started drooling. Our group of 7 went for the evening around 8pm where there was plenty of seats. That said, parking spots were limited within the plaza with the majority of people heading to the laundromat next door, so I parked on the streets. I shared a plate of stinky tofu with two others, and for myself ordered a plate of pork and napa cabbage 猪肉白菜水饺 pan-fried dumplings. Others in the tables ordered wonton soup, steamed dumplings, and braised pork rice, with the majority also getting pan-fried dumplings with other fillings. Wait was slightly long, though to be fair it was a huge order. The stinky tofu and veggies were pungent and passed the smell test. I long for street food back East. The dumplings were delicious, bursting with piping hot juices from the filling. Many folks on here miss the previous owners of the restaurant, but I'd say the current ones are doing a good job. One of our guys decided to order a bag of frozen dumplings to-go, so during some downtime the chef and waitstaff came out and talked at length in describing the proper cooking method to ensure a cooked interior and a crispy base. New family took over since March 2025. Featuring same menu plus a few more, they hand made their own dumplings and XLB. We had the Taiwanese dishes, they were pretty decent. Every time I drove by this place hours past midnight, I would see one of the owners working in the restaurant (most likely prepping food!). Admired by his dedication, I was encouraged to try out this place. We ordered Beef Noodle Soup, Pan-Fried Shrimp w/ Pork Dumplings, and Pork Kong-Bah Rice. The Beef Noodle Soup was standard but good! The soup had a wonderful flavor, and the beef was very tender. The Pan-Fried Shrimp w/ Pork Dumplings were delicious. It had a good skin to filling ratio, and it was fried quite nicely. They were also juicy and had soup inside. The Pork Kong-Bah Rice was good and I enjoyed it. The pork belly was perfectly marinated, and the fatty parts of the pork were delicious. It was also topped with pickled daikon radish which added a nice sweet tartness to the dish. Overall, the food here is pretty tasty and tastes homemade. Everything is also affordably priced. This Taiwanese food staple was already being replaced w/ peep who does not know how to cook Taiwanese fast food, such as minced pork rice, stew pork rice. My pork rice came w/ white rice in meat sauce (simply only the soy sauce), sour cabbage (it's served icy cold）and stew egg. The egg was only boiled soaking in soy sauce, no any flavors as it's supposed to be braised in 5-spices. It's nasty! If they weren't so fresh, they'd probably just be ok. A choy was also perfectly cooked and not salty or oily. Beef roll had decent flavor but bread was a little chewy. Oyster pancake was disappointing - egg was overcooked and sauce was slightly acidic and tasted more like ketchup than oyster pancake sauce. I lived in Monterey Park for 10 years until 2016 but surprisingly I didn't know about this place. My parents also don't know this place either as we drove by there many times. It's located in the little strip mall next to VP Tofu on Garfield Ave (cross street Newmark Ave). It's a hidden Taiwanese cuisine. (The name sounds like Chinese cuisine though) My mom and I ordered XLB (Xiao Long Bao /steamed pork dumplings) and a stir-fry noodle dish. We were a bit disappointed of the taste and quality. The stir-fry noodle dish was small portion and it only had some tiny shredded meat. The noodles were a bit salty and oily. However, we like the XLB, the skin was thin enough and it was flavorful. The pork meat was juicy inside. I want to support them because they are like mom and pop restaurant and they have been in business for so long. The taste was like home cooked meal, food was cheap but the quality varies depends on what you order. I think that many people like it because it's like comfort food for them. I've known about Good Shine Kitchen for many years, given that it is on my commute to work and I always see it. Unfortunately, it's only open a few days a week, and always in the evenings. I tend to prefer going out to lunch, but one time my wife and I had the opportunity to go out for dinner, so finally we went to Good Shine Kitchen. It's an extremely small hole in the wall restaurant. The server was nice to us, but it is a cash only establishment just so everyone is aware. I saw omelette rice on the menu and I instantly tunnel visioned on that as my dinner. My wife ordered oyster noodles and also a stinky tofu to go. The oyster noodles were slightly spicy but overall good. The omelette rice was solid. It had ketchup, which I expect from omelette rice. The rice was also ketchup rice. However the omelette was well done, and I may have preferred just slightly on the runny side. I think the rice itself could have used just a bit more seasoning. The serving portions are on the smaller side for an SGV restaurant, but that's ok. The food was great overall. read more

The hostess was behind the counter yelling out- to go order only while pointing at the clock saying they were getting ready to close. The overhead menu is simple and straightforward. There's a paper menu if you want the full list. While waiting for the order, the hostess gave us hot tea while waiting. So good on this cold night. This is a first review from eating in my car from outside the restaurant- too hungry to drive home and eat. So my wife and I just ate in the car lol. We ordered xiao long bao which was pretty good.. hot juicy pork dumplings that had fairly thicker wrap than din tai fung or mama lu's. But definitely good- should've ordered two :) We ordered the pork rice burger... doesn't sound like the usual, but basically minced pork on rice with tasty sauce. So. So.Good. Didn't expect it to be this good. Honestly above average better than what I typically find at my usual Taiwanese go-to restaurants (Joy, pine and crane) in highland park. Definitely a must order next time. Lastly, but actually firstly... the Salt and pepper shrimp. Never had a batter like this from any other restaurant like this. Fully fried, edible shells and all (served headless... I prefer on for full flavor, but it's all good), but the tiny crispy balls give it a different crunch from a dipped batter. Simply delicious. This place is a mom and pop shop, and the lady who serves the tables is very nice. When I was there she asked me what I want to order, and would recommend that she think I should get. She also will make sure that I didn't get too cold by closing the door as the afternoon/evening time got a little cold with the breeze with the door open. The food is like your typical taiwanese food - however the price per item was a bit steep for Taiwanese food. I am not sure if I should be surprised since there is inflation everywhere. The parking lot is shared with other businesses there and may be hard to find parking, but there is also street parking as well that is free. It is a good spot to grab some dine in taiwanese food and also comes with free hot tea or water. This trip however I opted for: 1- House special dry noodles $10.95. Which were not quite dry as it had some dark broth half way. This was okay in terms of flavor (not intense enough) but the noodles were soft. The pork had that distinctive "porkiness" that I didn't enjoy. The protein wasn't great. Rest of the dish was okay. Came with an egg. 2. Oyster pancake $10.95. This was EXCELLENT. Perfectly crispy on the edges yet chewy transparent dough inside with egg cooked in it and lots of oysters that tasted fresh. The sauce on top was lightly sweet as it should be. Just right. Best dish of the night. Very nice lady helped us and speaks English and mandarin. I would come back again to try the other dishes. I came here last night for the first time in a party of 4 for a late dinner. The service was very friendly and the flavors were legit Taiwanese. My favorite was the Chiayi chicken rice and the satay beef. I thought this Chiayi chicken rice was better than any other local Taiwanese place. The 3 cups chicken was also good. Be aware that this place is cash only. If this place were closer to home, I would come more often. I would come back and try more dishes since the flavors really tasted like being back in Taiwan.
