Food is simple and delicious! Owner says is handmade baos & dumplings. I like their garlic sauce or dip to go with my potstickers. Veggie dumplings are good too. Easy parking in rear. This is a small family business and would definitely support and come back to eat when I can!

15 years ago, I mistakenly found this place when I was walking down Garfield Avenue. At that time there were no English menus, the staff was Mandarin Speaking, and I had to order by pointing at pictures on yelp. The thing is this: The dumplings I had here from fifteen years ago were some of the best that I've ever had. I came back today to see if they were still good. Hint: they were! The thing is that people still don't know about this place! In the past year, for example, there has only been a handful of Yelp reviews for this spot! Qing Dao Bread Food sounds like a poor Google Translation; however, they're known for their dumplings and what I highly recommend are their "pan-fried pork and leek buns". Underline that for emphasis. The bottom of the bao are crispy, yet the skins are thick and chewy, and the filling is full of fresh scallions. The dish is served with an addictive soy-garlic sauce, and this is a flavor bomb. This is a literal hidden gem. You should absolutely check this spot out for this dish. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The drawbacks are what I highlighted above: They don't have English speaking staff, the menu can be daunting for the American palate, and this spot is small and CASH ONLY[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]. Definitely come here for the pan fried buns and dumplings. They're large, filling, delicious, and worth it!

Excellent and authentic Shandong and Qingdao style north Chinese cuisine! Carb lovers delight! Soup and dumplings were all excellent, steamed and pan fried alike! Their cold dishes were a surprise highlight, especially the garlicky cucumber dishes and seaweed salad. Home style deliciousness! [[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a bistro style venue, so come in and eat and jet![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great takeaway and frozen dumplings options too, all handmade goodness!

In a world today where every restaurant is trying to stand out from others via either gimmicks, price tricks, or some other type of marketing, Qing Dao stays true and original to what a restaurant truly should be focused on- food quality and taste. There are no big fancy signs, no expansive menus, and no combos or lunch specials. What you get is dumplings, noodles and wontons that is served in the most organic, and original way, with taste that is reminiscent of my childhood, when I would go to a communal owned food dining hall after school and get a plate of traditional northern dumplings and wontons. As you are eating them, you take note of the ladies that is actually hand making them, from the dumpling wrap to the fillings, while conversing lively about their lives. Nothing is commercialized here, just good people, making good dumplings, buns, and noodles. This is what eating dumpling is all about imo- original, traditional, and communal. If you ever find yourself craving for some northern dumplings, and find your self in Monterey park, please come and experience what a truly, authentic and original northern dumpling shop is like at Qing Dao. Price is very reasonable.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Cozy space with big kitchen and ample seating, Cash and mandarin-language preferred.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Menu is translated into English and you just mark what you want (like dim sum places without carts). Shared plaza parking lot that was easy on a Sunday afternoon. I tried the boiled lamb dumplings and pan fried baos with pork, leek, and shrimp. The lamb is a little gamey, juicy, and full of chives in a thickish dumpling skin (almost like linguine?). Pan fried baos had a nice ratio of filling to bao and the crispy bottom and skirt was a real treat. I wish there was more pork and a bit of salt; the shrimp seemed more like crayfish/prawn in texture/color. Both were great with the potent (raw) garlic sauce, chili oil, and vinegars on the table. I'd come back again to try other things.

This is a cash only small restaurant. Owners and staff only speak Mandarin, but they are very friendly. The size of the dumplings is quite large. They are not just large in size but are very fresh and juicy. Most important, we fell in love with their special garlic sauce ( the taste is quite strong in terms of spiciness, so it may not fit everybody). We also ordered pork spare rib noodle soup and pork tongue. Both are delicious. Give it a try if you wanted to try Chinese ShangDong food!

Comfort food done right! I thought the bowl of noodles would be too big but end up devouring them with ease. The dumplings wtih the garlic sauce were amazing. I know where to go next time I need to load up on frozen dumplings. They don't really speak much English, but the menus have english and ordering was simple and quick.

This place is hole in the wall! It is easy to miss this place when you driving by but their food is really good. We came across this place on 100 places to eat in SGV and I had to give it a shot! We got pork with leak and shrimp dumplings, pie with leeks, eggs, and dried shrimp, and Marinated beef tendon with garlic. All the dishes were cooked to its perfect and flavors were excellent! Their service was quick and they were great at hospitality. As mentioned in other review - language could be a barrier but I was able to point it out what we wanted and no problem with ordering food. It seems to be family run business and I like to support such businesses. Definitely recommend this place if you are looking for food similar to Qing Dao region of China!

Worth the try: any of the dumplings! Tip: the owners / staff don't really speak English but don't let that stop you from trying this place out Bonus tip: Yes they take card now! Boiled Pork Leek Shrimp Dumplings: huge dumplings, comes with 12 and enough to feed 2 people. Super juicy and flavorful! Served with a potent (yet delicious) garlic sauce that leaves you tasting garlic for the rest of the day (but not in a bad way). Pig Lips & Cucumber: cold appetizer, comes with tonssss of meat. Love how refreshing yet flavorful the cucumber is with all the garlic sauce. PARKING: street and lot parking available nearby ATMOSPHERE: small shop, primarily good for to-go orders I was craving some dumplings and was so happy to try this hole-in-the-wall place out. Their dumplings are HUGE. HUUUGE. I really enjoyed the boiled/steamed dumplings even though I usually get fried at other places. Stop by this place and support your local mom and pop shops!

    Most were ruptured as such
    Tre C.

Based purely on food (although employee that answered our call was pretty rude too). Lamb dumplings - absolutely flavorless, way overcooked, dumpling skin was mushy and ruptured on majority of the dumplings. Pork intestines (usually my favorite thing to eat) - not cooked properly to render the interior fat so there was just huge blobs of fat in every piece. Texture was terrible (I love intestines in all forms usually). Jellyfish - what jellyfish?! The entire dish was mainly cabbage. Also flavorless. Marinated beef shank - what marinade? It tasted like boiled beef. Millet porridge had clumps of dough. I really had high hopes for this place.

    Jimmy L.

Revisited this place for the first time in a few years and is really delicious and among the best dumplings in the SGV. The boiled pork/leek and pan fried pork/cabbage dumplings are both delicious and also their style of pan fried buns were unlike anything I've had before. Also, what really puts it all over the top is their signature garlic dipping sauce which is VERY garlicky in the best way possible. It is a bit of a dive and just has a few tables inside. Service is friendly and quick. They bring you a paper menu to fill in and order from, and bring out food as it comes. Definitely a must visit for dumpling fans.

They give large portions and everything tastes INCREDIBLE. Super authentic flavors and will definitely be coming back MUST TRY: Beef roll- flaky on the outside and stuffed with delicious marinated beef. My favorite dish Pan fried pork bun- super juicy just like in China Fried squid- the best fried squid I've ever had. Even better than the Hong Kong Cafe. Super crunchy almost like Korean fried chicken in the outside and tender in the inside. Not hard to chew at all! Lemon green tea- absolute massive glass. 100% delicious and not too sweet with a faint jasmine floralness Inside is a bit small but very generous with the AC Definitely come here!

We came here on Sunday at around 2pm and still waited around 30-40min for a table All that time waiting in line meant I had plenty of time to read through reviews and strategize my order, hah! By the way, when you arrive, make sure you go inside the restaurant and get a number and hang out until they call your number. It's pretty low tech lolll. Popcorn chicken - this seems to be a crowd favorite. It was good popcorn chicken but definitely not as good as other places in the area. That said, I do agree that it's good value as the portion is really big. Beef roll - ordered it without cilantro since cilantro is not my friend (sorry cilantro lovers). It ended up tasting a little plain and needed some of the chilli crisp/ oil to give it a little oomph. That said, the crust/ roll was good and the beef was flavorful (not too dry). Not bad, but also not amazing. Pork and veggie dumping in chilli oil - this was also just okay. The dumpling itself was lacking flavor but I guess the sauce helps. Braised beef and tendon noodles - If there's one thing I'd order again, it would be this. I LOVE the texture of the noodle. It has the perfect springy bite. Love love love the noodle. The beef was tender and the soup was okay (Good, not great). But the noodles though, if I could just buy the noodles, I would. If I were to sum up the food, I'd say it's not bad, but not amazing. The value is great since portions are generous, but taste wise is pretty average. Was it worth the wait? Absolutely not. I would not wait more than 10min for a table here to be honest. Would I come back here again if it was less than 10min wait? Yea probably if I was in the area.

Everything came out piping hot and packaged well for takeout. We only waited about 15min, which was not bad at all. We really liked the siu mai and chow fun. Both were savory and addicting. Siu mai were especially juicy and meaty; they definitely satisfied our dim sum cravings. Soup dumplings were ok - I found the wrapper to be doughy and the filling kinda plain. The black sesame roll had an interesting rolled look and a sticky, chewy, jelly-like texture. It tasted like lightly sweetened black sesame paste mixed into what seemed like a combination of mochi and agar. The small parking lot in the back is free. We got lucky finding a spot in the late morning, but when we were ready to back out after getting our food, cars were either circling the lot or waiting for someone to leave.

Pork Ramen: 3/5 They give you a hefty amount of noodles and pork. They use a thin noodle here which pairs well with the broth. I truly do believe this was around average for ramen as the flavor in the broth was not as strong or savory. The highlight of the entire entree was definitely the pork, which was tender and flavorful. I probably would not order this again. Would recommend ordering this if you visit. Pork Dumplings: 5/5 The star of the show, the dumplings. They were soft and just like the buns, they had the right amount of soup + meat which made for a delicious bite every time. My toddler even ate some and she's usually super picky about meat. There's a large underground garage for parking. We got lucky with a spot as a car was just leaving when we pulled in, so I'm not sure how hard it is to find parking during peak times, but there were a lot of cars coming in so I imagine it could be a bit difficult on weekends. We came to the cafe Saturday morning around 11:30 and managed to beat the lunch rush. They had tables available when we arrived, so my party of 4 was seated in a couple minutes once they prepared the table. It was quite spacious inside with plenty of space between each table, which made it easier for us with a bulky stroller. The decor was really fun to look at as well, as they have a lot of Hong Kong themed decoration. My friend got the Hong Kong milk tea to drink but it was pretty bad. He said the tea flavor was way too strong. I tried a sip and agree it wasn't very good. As expected of a Hong Kong cafe, the menu was large and had a huge selection of dishes. It took us a while to look through everything and figure out what we wanted. We ended up sharing the following dishes: #95 signature fish fillet ($19.95) - didn't know what to expect as there was no description of the dish on the menu. It was fried and coated in a sweet salty sauce. It was good but tasted pretty standard #120 Hainan chicken rice ($18.95) - probably my least favorite dish of the meal. It was served completely chilled, and the rice didn't have the fragrant chicken flavor I was expecting #151 seafood chow fun ($15.95) - this was my favorite dish! we got it with gravy for a change (we usually always get this dry) and it really came smothered in sauce. Despite that, we could still taste the wok hei in the rice noodle #176 grilled pork chop ($15.95) - pork chop was delicious! but the mushroom sauce we got on the side was very meh; it didn't have much flavor #176 grilled chicken steak ($15.95) - mostly one friend was eating this dish, but I tried a piece of the chicken and it was solid. They do a good job grilling their meats here! Portions are ginormous here. You can definitely get away with ordering 3-4 dishes for 4 people, but we wanted to have some leftovers for the next day so we ordered 5. We left happy and full :)
