There were only three shrimp, two small scallops and fake crab. There were lots of onions, and green peeper and sauce - the taste was fair, however for $8 - it would have been nice to receive actual seafood like the menu stated. I have been to this family-owned restaurant a lot lately. This tiny place is clean and cozy, the young lady at the front is friendly. But these are not the only reasons why I give 5 stars ---- IT'S ALL ABOUT FOOD! Tasty foods are served in generous portions of great value. Dinner combo with fried rice and egg roll for $7 is the best deal around town. My recommendation is the Mongolian Beef, fresh and full of flavor, it reminds me of mom's cooking. And you can never go wrong with the 3-piece fried whole chicken wings for only $4.50. Wings are well seasoned, appetitively fried to order. They taste so good that you won't find wings better than these in any fast food chain. I also notice that they are serving smoothie made with fresh fruit now, which is a big improvement since I used to complain about not having deserts. Definitely will bring my kids next time. I waited outside the building. Five people waited, food getting cold, until dish arrived 45 minutes later and the driver went to the wrong building. I'll never order delivery again. I understand that every Chinese restaurant makes things differently but the General Tsao's chicken, orange chicken, & Kung Pao chicken should not be on the same level of spicy. Which is fiery. They only sent two forks in an order of 4 different meals. The boxes were leaking when we got them. The hot teas were spilled all over the pace. The driver was rude. Hmm, initially I thought I'd made a mistake when I walked in since where you'd expect to find tables it was just open floor space with just a couple very small booths near the far wall and one table near the front window. Then you throw in the bad lighting and I was feeling like I should run since it was striking me as very rundown and I didn't trust eating their food. Lastly I couldn't help but notice the very bad lighting that was making the empty space look even more depressing. Luckily I took a closer look and realized that even with all the negative first impressions the floor was clean and looking back into the kitchen area it looked very clean too. My next observation was the menu. It was pretty much typical Chinese takeout type foods, but the best part was the prices. For something like $4.75 you could get a lunch special that included fried rice and an eggroll. I got a lunch special to go and got a big meal and a can of Coke and only walked out $6.05 poorer. Not a bad deal at all. As far as the flavors go it was a bit of a roller coaster ride. None of the food tasted any different than other Chinese takeout places, but thankfully they didn't overcook the eggroll like so many places do so that was very enjoyable. I had the sweet and sour chicken and it was good. My only complaint about it was that one of the pieces was literally still very cold when I bit into it. Like cold enough to be like I'd just pulled it out of a fridge. The fried rice was good with no complaints and also nothing to get excited about. So the bottom line is if I'm in the area and looking for a cheap lunch time meal I'll stop in again. Well worth the very affordable prices they are charging. read more

This place has amazing pot stickers. Everything else is really hit or miss, and/or overly greasy. There is something great about the pot stickers though and a combo meal for under 7.00 can't be beat. We're expanding a bit outside our regular Chinese places and seeing what else is out there, so we decided to order from GCE and see what happened.. We gave the appetizers a good go with pot-stickers, egg rolls and crab rangoon. The best out of the three were the crab rangoon. Very nice flavor, well fried. My wife is strangely particular about her pot-stickers, and she said they were pretty decent. The egg roll was so-so.. had a unique flavor that I couldn't place.. I think we'd do better to stick with the rangoon and pot stickers from now on. The chicken lo-mein was.. untraditional.. to say the least. We'll skip it from now on. Mongolian beef actually had thicker slices of beef which was a nice change, but flavor was lacking.. a tad bit bland overall. It was also smothered in slices of peppers and onions which is great if you like those, but I was going for the beef so they just mainly got in the way. We also ordered a small Szechwan combo to try it, and that turned out pretty well.. had a nice strong flavor to it. Not sure if I'd get the shrimp version, but chicken / beef might be pretty good. It was a slightly above-average order, I'd give it another try and change up the dishes and see how it turns out again before making a final call on GCE. read more

You can't expect authentic Chinese food from a place that's located across the street from the L in the Edgewater neighborhood but the food does taste reasonable. The sweet & sour chicken was just ok - the chunks of chicken were small and there was a lot of air filler in the breading. The sesame chicken was inedible - the sauce was dark colored and quite vinegary. The egg rolls were incredibly greasy and chewy, not crispy. The crab wantons were bland and the filling was made with low-quality crab meat. The chicken fried rice was probably the best thing we ordered, albeit greasy, but it's hard to screw fried rice up. First off, the food is great; my personal favorites are their sesame chicken, sweet and sour chicken, and crab rangoons. Second, the prices are awesome especially for the amount of food you get. Very run down, pretty empty. The service was quick. About 10 minutes from the order. I was disappointed to be served in styrofoam with sauce packets and a plastic fork. The front of house spoke very limited english. The bubble tea was great, smaller than it should've been for 4.25. I would expect at least 16 ounces. The food is from frozen. I found weird chunks in the rice. Enough to feed 2, but I would prefered to microwave frozen Chinese food from Walmart, it would've been better and half the price. The wifi was good. That's it. My recommendation for the owners, have fewer staff members sitting around yelling at eachother (do you pay employees to sit on laptops and do homework or should they attend to customers?) cook fresh food, and make sure the front of house is easier to understand.
