I had lunch with a friend here and ordered take-out for my wife. I had the Szechuan Beef that comes with soup, salad, entree and a choice of steam rice, brown rice or fried rice. My buddy got the Prawns with mixed vegetable and I ordered the fish fillet with bean sauce.I would rate all of the lunch plates rounded up to about four stars. I also ordered siu mai to go which were very small and tasted a bit fishy. I'm guessing they do not make the siu mai but rather bought frozen. The beef was fried nicely with a sweet flavor and the broccoli was more al dente which I liked. The fish had good flavor and in addition to the onions and bell peppers they had mushrooms. The 5 prawns were fresh with a good variety of veggies. I liked the hot and sour soup that came with the lunch, good flavor and generous serving of ingredients. The salad was basically iceberg lettuce, a few shreds of carrier and an oil ginger dressing. The fried rice was pretty plain but moist. You definitely will feel full eating one of the lunch specials. Would I go there again? Yes, this is more Americanized Chinese food. The flavor is good and you get good sized portions. For the flame eaters, the Szechuan is more milder than most Szechuan places. read more

Hands down the BEST sweet and sour prawns I've ever had! The batter was light and crispy, the sauce was perfectly balanced not too sweet, not too tangy and the prawns were super fresh and juicy. You can really taste the quality in every bite. The rest of the food was just as fresh and flavorful, and you can tell they take pride in using quality ingredients. China Palace is northern Chinese cuisine. In Walnut Creek I had won ton soup , the broth was okay. Not too flavorful but it had shrimp and good size wontons. The broth just tastes like water . No chicken or fish both taste to it. The honey shrimp walnut dish is very good. Large shrimp good portion . The beef and black mushroom dish was good . No complaints on portion size . The service was good. Food brought to table was hot and didn't have to wait too long. Is a simple establishment, clean , family owned. If I'm in the area again will go back to try different dishes or take out. They have a daily lunch specials. I know the prices have changed in every restaurant so this for me is still an ouch. 3 dishes with rice and tea $80.00. Yelp has it a $$. I have been going here for many years. I love the food and the service and the people. I have moved away from the area but I still fly back and always make sure I use BART to come into Walnut Creek from SFO Airport so o can eat here every time I visit. A trip to CA from NY is not complete without my visit to China Palace. I cannot get Chinese food like this where I am in NY. I have tried and it just really is not worth it. Everyone had soup at other tables but we didn't order it...but we will next time for sure!!! We had the crabmeat puffs as an appetizer and they were fluffy, hot, and tasty. The combo fried rice was the best I've ever had: the rice was fried to perfection, the eggs were light as air, and each protein (shrimp, chicken, beef, and pork) were cooked separately and crispy and tender. My goodness it was bomb!!! We also had the Mandarin Triple Crown with brown sauce and my new mission in life is to figure out how to make the brown that the Triple crown was served with:-) the veggies were Al dente and so flavorful. I came by on my lunch break today because I really wanted some broccoli beef, heavy on the broccoli. I was greeted as soon as I walked in by Judy. She was very friendly. When Judy came out with my dish, it was loaded with broccoli, just like I love it. We had a nice little conversation about how we like the veggies most. When I finally dug in, I was so impressed at the tastiness of the sauce and how it wasn't "stale oil heavy". The fried rice was tender and fluffy. Super fresh and delicious. Person taking the order placed the menu and an iced water the moment I sat down and answered any questions I had about the selection . The options are in a pretty big menu . I chose the Mongolian three combo. It came out piping hot be careful , with steamed rice I got. The meal had plenty of portion. The lady who I assumed was the owner checked and ask to see if everything is ok and how the food was. Things like these are important to customers because it makes you feel valued. Water was also refilled once without me having to ask . This place is a solid Chinese restaurant and the lunch special price was great on price and value . The food was authentic you can tell maybe Americanized by spice level but it was honestly delicious food for what you get for the money. As I ate, I watched several people come in looked like regulars so you know they have their loyal base. Right off the 680 exit literally so ideal and no parking headache either.5/5 read more
