IF you want the best Teriyaki, or pork THIS IS IT! Granted I would suggest stopping at the bank, instead of using your ATM card, a bigger charge than normal. They barbecue the chicken and pork, nicely not greasy. Fresh and perfectly cooked vegetables. Not a huge amount of choices, but favorite kind for us. Suggestion to try to get there earlier on weekends, the line is out the door. Friday through Sunday evening. I took $40 from the bank, and my bill was $20.45, they rounded DOWN for us. I will start by saying their teriyaki chicken is pretty good, not the best in town....but still pretty good. However, Their fried rice and mushroom chicken were pretty bland. When we made it to the front and were ready to pay they told us that there would be a fee for debit charges. Ok...I guess that's fine...no big deal. But guess how much the fee was?!?! $1.50! Isn't that ridiculous? ON TOP OF THE RIDICULOUS FEE they have to charge a minimum of $10! we had ordered something that was $6.75 and they had to charge us $11.50 ($10 for the "minimum amount" and $1.50 for the debit card fee) and they gave us $3.25 back. So our meal cost $8.25. BUT WAIT, THE DISAPPOINTMENT CONTINUES!.... They didn't inform us that on top of their stupid debit fees, our bank also charges us a fee and for Wells Fargo it was $2.50. So now the final cost of our meal was $10.75, when originally it was only $6.75. For an establishment to charge ridiculous debit fees is absurd to me and will be a reason I, nor my friends or family, will ever return here. Seriously who carries cash around now a days, ESPECIALLY IN THIS AREA! Please keep up with competitors and put this shameful business tactic to rest. "I never want to give them my business again" I haven't logged into Yelp in a long time. My bad experience here was enough to make me do it. This was our first time here. I don't ever want to give them my business again. Service: Wow. I was waiting for the orange chicken that was being made (they were out when I first came in) and during that time, the woman behind the counter (I'm guessing the owner) had put the chow mein in the container and left it sitting on the counter. Then, when the orange chicken was ready, I asked her, VERY politely, "would you mind putting in fresh chow mein because that has been sitting in the container a while and I'd like it fresh" (they had JUST poured in new fresh chow mein). She replied very rudely, "it's the same thing. You get this." I said, again very politely, "I understand it's similar, but I'd really appreciate it, it would make a big difference to me." She threw up her hands and loudly exclaimed, "Oh my God" and then starts muttering under her breath about how horrible of a customer I am; Right in front of me. My girlfriend asked to sample an item (we'd never been here before and they don't bother to label Any of the dishes) and the other woman rolls her eyes at us. Sorry, but not every chinese place makes the exact same stuff. When we finally got our stuff and went to pay, we had set the tooth pick down on the counter while getting out our wallet. The lady glares at us and starts tapping her finger on the counter to make sure we took the toothpick with us when we left. How rude! Food: The food was okay. I'm NOT a fan of the beef and broccoli. And, while I liked the flavour of the orange chicken, I don't like that it was mushy. I MUCH prefer the orange chicken at Beijing near the Tapatio Market. Cost: The cost is the same 6$ for 2 item combo as anywhere else. But they have a nice sign that says: "we charge a SMALL fee of $1.50 to use your credit or debit card". And they mean it. $1.50? What a rip off! Overall: The food isn't bad, the price is the same as anywhere else- but they were complete jerks to us. We even told them it was our first time there and they couldn't be nice to us. Businesses during a recession should be NICE to their customers so they stay in business. I gave China town 2 Stars due to my last visit. They were rude and honestly I won't be going back. I came in late granted I knew I was cutting it short walking in 15 minutes before closing. Came to this place because of previous good reviews but was disappointed with the service. The food was okay, wasn't bad but not the best teriyaki chicken I've had. First, I asked if I could just have chicken and veggies. The lady didn't seem willing to customize their chicken bowl options and told me I would have to pay a different price than advertised so I consented to go with their original chicken bowl as advertised. What really disturbed me was when I ordered a Thai ice tea and requested extra milk. The same lady said, "next time, tell us ahead of time." I used to work at the pizza place next door so I used to (and still do) get food from there all the time. Great food. Can't believe they are not 5 stars on yelp. One of the best in riverside hands down. I cannot say they are better than panda because the two are completely different. What I can tell you is it's definitely worth a try. Lastly and most importantly - it sucks paying money for services or goods that you don't receive (the atm fee). All those reviewers that gave a bad review based solely on that charge need to take a second and reflect. It is a small buisness and they need to continue to ensure that their prices are reasonable (which they are). I cannot believe as a customer of Chinatown for many years that I haven't reviewed this place! I have been coming here since I moved to Riverside when I was in the 3rd grade. Their customer service, cleanliness, and the food have been always pleasant since the first day I have eaten at Chinatown. I always get the usual the 2-item combo with teriyaki chicken and BBQ pork with fried rice and chow mein. The teriyaki chicken is indeed the best in town also the BBQ pork, orange chicken, and the egg rolls! They serve a lot of food onto your plate. Now since I moved away from Riverside due to college I always have a craving for their delicious Chinese food. There hasn't been any other fast food Chinese place that compares to Chinatown :(. I' had been coming here for years and suddenly the food quality has gone down hill, the orange chicken used to have a spicy kick to it and now just taste like orange sauce poured over it. As soon as we walked in the lady at the resister taking someone else's payment was just staring at me, it kinda made me feel as if we were not wanted there! Then looking at their food selection, a lot of their food trays were empty or almost gone! I specifically asked her if she was bringing out anymore Kung Pau Chicken because there was clearly no chicken in that dish, she asked me how many plates I was ordering because she is not bringing anymore out! They were still open for another hour and a half! Very good chinese food. I had the orange chicken and teriyaki chicken with chow mein. The orange chicken was tasty and the teriyaki chicken was some of the best I've ever had (true to the sign). The chow mein was also pretty good. I sampled the tangerine chicken, but it was hard and not very good, so I skipped that. Overall, very good. One side note, as another reviewer noted, they do not accept credit cards and they charge $1.50 for each debit card. It looks like it is best to pay cash. Hands down the best in town. Chicken taste great it's always fresh (probably goes they go through it so fast) and the Orange chicken should get some credit as well nice and juicy and if you got a little room or just want a cheap good quick snack the egg rolls are your new best friend. Jack in the box gives you 3 for like four bucks. At Chinatown that would have bought you 6. You can get a four pack for $2.50 and one side of the sweet sauce is plenty trust. read more

Worst customer service! They were so rushed and were not accommodating! Their portions are huge for the price and I was trying to ask if I could get a smaller side, but all she would do is say "no, go to register", where they charge a $1.50 extra to use a debit or credit card (sign that this business is not credibly run). When I asked to add a cup of soup to my order, I was told "it's already rung up" even though my uncle who was paying for the meal hadn't even gotten a chance to order his meal yet. After pointing this out, they did add my soup to the order and then waited for him. They make you stand in a line along the buffet of food to order and point at what you want, but then they don't actually put it in the container at that time, which is strange. I asked about this and they said "after you pay" and that "take out is first". Other customers who were eating in visibly were having problems with the service as well.
