After reading review after review claiming that the peking duck at China Wok trumps the one at Peking Gourmet Inn, I finally gave in and made the trek out to the restaurant (which is conveniently a 3 minute walk away from the Greensboro metro stop). Not going to lie, I was pretty apprehensive about going here in general because I've been extremely happy and satisfied with the duck that I've been served at Peking Gourmet Inn. And while I may have felt like I was cheating on a lover, with an open mind, I tried the duck at China Wok, and like that Taylor Swift/Ed Sheeran song goes, "Everything, has changed." While China Wok might not have strict waitstaff uniforms, a tutorial on how to eat the peking duck (which I appreciated as I've consumed this dish way too many times to still be given a tutorial), or a large grand space, it makes up for it with its superior peking duck. The details on China Wok's triumph boils down to the following: -A crispier duck skin -A more luscious pancake wrap -A larger serving (I feel like I got more duck, and definitely more wraps) The duck is still carved table-side by a highly skilled elderly man, and is served with a generous portion of the hoisin based sauce and spring onions. Though my date and I ordered an additional noodle dish to the peking duck, we found it to be unnecessary as after we scarfed down all of the duck and pancakes, we were too full to function, and ultimately just brought the fried pan noodles home. I would say the only pitfall to China Wok would be its small size for its current popularity. While I was lucky enough to have walked in and gotten a table (albeit right by the door), I would call in advance for a reservation to guarantee yourself a seat at this amazing restaurant that is growing in popularity exponentially. read more

Real Chinese food in Tysons Corner? WHAT? Yes, folks. Traditional Chinese food, including Peking Duck, Crispy Pork Chop, Black Fungus, Tofu and Eggplant Casserole. Oh my. And the old man cuts the duck right at your table. Half Duck is $16 and Whole is $32. Not cheap! And they still have all those American favorites like General Tso's chicken! nom nom nom *heart attack* Service was quick and food was tasty. The only thing that was putting off was the fried rice - absolutely nothing in it besides oil. No egg, no carrot, no onion - NOTHING. Kind of cheap. Also the parking lot here is stuffed to the rafters with cars. I'll be going back. P.S. lots of Asian/Chinese speaking people here too - a good sign. read more

The food is delicious and worth a visit! It's a small restaurant, not the newest shiniest but the food was outstanding. It was a rare find recommended by a friend who said it is the place to go for Peking duck and he was right. We went there on a Monday for lunch so it was quite busy. We ordered the Peking duck and chicken with broccoli, to my surprise the service was really good and we even got little bowls for the kids. The food was more than we expected. Crispy duck skin, pancakes, Plum sauce and fresh scallions and the chicken was tender, the sauce delish!!!! and the portion was generous. This is some of the best Chinese food I've had in the DC area. The spring rolls were fresh and crispy, the Singapore Noodles with Beef were delicious, as was the beef lo mein. I am not a fan of duck so we didn't try the Peking Duck. I'd definitely like to go back and try more on the menu. Inexpensive and serviceable heaping-plate-o-chinese for lunch. Commodity fare, perhaps a notch better than fast-food places like Panda. Prompt, efficient service. The small dining area was clean enough. But after the meal, I walked back to the restroom, and it's probably good I did that after instead of before. It was a bit scary walking down the dimlit hall, past a few open doorways that gave a view of a large, dingy, chaotic looking kitchen, past a few storage closets, and into a restroom that wouldn't have been out of place in a rural one-pump gas station. Food is not bad. A good place to try Cantonese style Chinese dishes. Not ideal for Sichuan Spicy experience though. Ask for authentic menus if you want to try food not offered on the main menu. Staff is nice and friendly. Service is very quick. And the price is reasonable. The store is bit small though with limited tables. Probably difficult to serve a big group. You know that saying, don't judge a book by its cover? Cliches aside, I agree. BEST Peking duck around. This restaurant is a... force to be reckoned with. Located in a small strip mall in Tysons, one would never imagine to find such a gem. In my honest opinion, when compared to Mark's Duck House or even Peking Gourmet Inn, China Wok's Peking duck comes out on top for me every time. Right on the money. To be fair, the other dishes are good too. They have the usual Chinese menu, which they so nicely place under the table glass, and the usual non-so-Chinese menu. Easy to figure out which one to best order from. However, the duck is their cream of the crop. Price is fantastic, too. During the busy nights, Chef Wang would actually come out to prepare the duck for your table, just like in the newspaper review. Pretty solid. You do win some and lose some here, though. The restaurant isn't in the best condition, bathroom is pretty eh. However, I judge food first, and I would say A+. A++ for the duck. Did I say win some, lose some? 4 stars for the food (especially the Peking Duck which was nicely shaved and the skin was perfectly crispy) and 2.5 stars for the service which is highly inconsistent - I've had great dinner service once before, but this last time, the waitress was not as friendly - that yelling in Chinese was actually as it sounded and not mere Chinese folks talking with excitement in a friendly manner! :) The restaurant location is in a strip mall and the inside doesn't have much more appeal to it. This is a great place to go to if you're trying to avoid the crowds at the popular Peking Gourmet. Their peking duck is tasty, though not the best, satisfies my craving for some peking duck. While my friends and I were fine with it, the skin carvings of the duck had a quite a bit of fat left and it wasnt as crispy... By going here, you save ten plus dollars per duck. So we got two ducks and a couple dishes from their menu. What I didn't like about this place is that they're really stingy with their rice. They only wanted to give us two rice bowls while there were six of us because we only ordered two entrees aside from the two ducks. Asians eat a lot of rice, so that's not cool =P read more

Excellent food! We stumbled upon this place while staying nearby at a hotel. Seems like a local institution as it was packed with locals on a late Sunday evening. They are known as experts in preparing Duck, and it was evident as many tables were enjoying that dish. Every item we ordered was fabulous, even when packaged for take out. This is in respect to the consistency of Chef Wang's Peking Duck. Very difficult to order Chinese food here. The service is normally good, sometimes a member of the staff can be too personal or chatty with you and disturb the meal. That is not always the case. The duck has been consistent for the most part. The pancakes are coming out hot, and moist and not dry and cracking. The hoisin sauce has been mixed consistently in the past couple years. The green onions appear fresh green, and vibrant. The duck has always tasted nicely. Although the fat on the skin is not removed consistently, and the crispness of the duck skin has been far removed. Must be from the preparation methods used in the kitchen as to blame. All in all, a nice finish to the Duck would be duck soup which can be requested at an additional charge cooked with rice noodles, and cabbage. read more

The Peking duck is wonderful, other dishes are pretty good. The three stars are for the service and seating. I don't know why the servers don't understand that they make the tips of their service. And they need to show "services". Most the time, before I can sit down, they already want me to order. Even I am a regular, I still like to settle in (take off my jacket, put my purse down, maybe a sip of my tea) before I want to order. I am glad that China Wok has reopened after the fire. I had their famous duck this time. It was really good. I normally prefer chicken over duck, but this duck was more delicious than any of the ducks that I had ever had. Their beef soup was nice as well. I've been coming here a long time and it's excellent. Since it's in a strip mall, you might not expect to get good Chinese and you probably wouldn't expect authentic, but this place has both. They have an American menu where you'll find the familiar items, but ask for a Chinese menu to get the authentic fare. My favorite is the spicy beef noodle soup which they make with homemade noodles. The flavor is outstanding and I get this almost once a week. My coworkers walk by all the time and ask me what I'm eating and where to get it. You'll need a huge bowl if you get this soup for take out... I'd recommend getting it there first. Another fantastic dish is the Phoenix fish which is large chunks of lightly fried ( not deep fried and not oily ) fish with black bean sauce and green onions. It's so good. The third dish I'll mention is the fish hot pot which isn't a traditional dip your food in it hot pot, but rather fish chunks that come in a stone bowl with a spicy reddish sauce served with cabbage and green onions. The owners are wonderful people and know their usuals. They come to greet them and make them feel at home. Take the time to say hello, and you will probably be back a lot like me. read more

The duck is perfectly cooked and seasoned and the chef comes out to cut the duck for us very expertly and quickly! I can't believe his energy at that age! This place is terrific. Don't let appearances deceive you -- it looks like a humble strip mall Chinese place. However, it has a wonderful ma po tofu with pork -- rich spicy sauce with little flecks of cooked pork, a great intro to ma po tofu if you've never had the dish before. Spicy beef noodles also great -- the meat is perfectly soft and stewed and the handmade noodles taste very authentic and well crafted. The eat-in restaurant looks nicer than your average takeout places. The people who work there are kind, friendly and try to have conversations with/be interested in you. Overall atmosphere is good. I got American Chinese food, but it wasn't that great. Wonton soup was too salty and egg drop was average. When I got my food it was soggy but I blame the weather. General Tso was mostly batter, (so maybe it was crispy?) and sauce was good but on the salty side. I personally did not like kingdom pork because of a certain spice in it I don't like. I want to give this place another shot but idk if I will because it was generally too salty/oily for me. I ended up eating mostly rice to fill up. However the everything else is just fine. If you prefer a bit salty them this may be a good place for you. ***EDIT: so I tried it again and got food from the non American takeout menu. The jiajiang noodles, garlic fried pork, and the fish hot pot were delicious. The jiajiang noodles and Dan Dan noodles seem to be hand pulled. The garlic fried pork was crispy garlic-y and peppery. The fish hot pot had spicy but not too spicy sauce (thick soup?) that I wanted to put on everything. The food on this menu still tended to be salty and oily. read more

We have been back to the restaurant many time since it reopened. The updated decor looked nice and clean. The waitstaff did not really change, all familiar faces. The duck prices went up. The last time we were there, the ducks were small. I ended up ordering an extra duck. But it was still the best Peking duck place around. We have been there one time when the Peking duck chef was not working. The duck was carved in the kitchen. The duck had extra fat on the skin and the meat barely covered 2 plates. Came here for lunar new year dinner. Ordered a whole Peking duck, Mapo tofu, garlic snow pea stir fry, spicy beef noodle soup, Dan Dan noodles and eggplant pork. Food came out quickly. The old uncle rolled out his cart and sliced the Peking duck up quick! It was a nicely roasted duck...crispy skin and lots of meat on its' bones. I liked that we got to roll the duck in a wrap than a bun. Pretty good duck for $35. The other foods tasted authentic but I'd avoid the Dan Dan noodles. Wasn't that great. I love love love love the duck! So luscious and tasty and the crispy skin just melts in your mouth. I sneak pieces by themselves instead of putting them in the little taco shell things. I love the old man who comes by and cuts it too-- such a pro. You can ask for the carcass to take home and make soup! As for their other dishes, their beef noodle soup, which I got to go, held up pretty well and had a nice spice. Their vegetable dishes are never too heavily salted, which I really appreciate. Their eggplant casseroles are good, but be careful-- the eggplant holds that oil and can burn your tongue. Peking duck is a must!!! It is located in a strip mall near Tysons Corner. Who would expect good food from a Chinese restaurant located at a strip mall. Not me but I was introduce to this place from my sister's boyfriend. I was initially hesitant but there food was solid. The duck is the star of this restaurant as the duck is roasted beautifully and is sliced tableside. You will also get the bones of the duck to bring home at the end of the meal. A great way to make stock/ grave with the bones and some herbs. Best tip is to call ahead because it becomes packed during peak dinner time. read more
