One and done! So wanted it to be good, but it wasn't. We won't be back. Food is terribly sweet. The amount of corn syrup in our Mongolian beef was ridiculous. Flavor overall was good just super sweet. I ordered the salt and pepper shrimp and the star anise spice used was overwhelming, I could not eat it. I had to send it back and ordered honey walnut shrimp. When it was brought out the water gave me a nasty look and the shrimp tasted like deep fried cardboard. So very overcooked and rock hard. Finally the dumplings tasted ok, but clearly these were frozen and not freshly made. All of our entrees were disappointing. So much wanted this to taste good since there isn't much good Chinese food in the area. I did like the ambience of the restaurant, something most Chinese restaurants lack, but the furniture is very uncomfortable. I've never commented before on furniture but this deserves a mention, Also the noise from the kitchen is very loud. Service is typical for Chinese, you have to request everything you need, and once the food is brought they don't come back. So we wanted it to be good, but it wasn't. We won't be back. read more

Bought the Seafood Delight on Easter Sunday to go. When we opened the container, the vegetables were mushy. Went back after a few days to give the place another chance and ordered Kung Pao Chicken. After paying and getting ready to leave, I mentioned to one of the guys (possibly the owner or manager) about the disappointing mushy vegetables. Instead of appreciating the feedback to improve the quality of the food, I got a furious feedback. He angrily told me that he read my review about the mushy vegetables and told me to "go to other Chinese place" while simultaneously motioning with his hand for me to go away and leave the place. You can choose from One or Two combos and white or fried rice is included, along with chow mein and egg drop soup. I had the Honey Walnut Shrimp and Mongolian Beef. I've been waiting for a Chinese restaurant to open in this plaza! Service is so fast and even the servers packed up the food for us. Super fresh food. It feels like a home cooked meal. China Yi is in a strip mall and looks like a standard chain from the outside, but the food is so so much better. We got eggplant and tofu, chicken with string beans and black bean sauce, Kung Pao chicken, juicy pork dumplings, bean curd sheet rolls, and a taro smoothie. Everything tasted fresh and delicious without being weighed down by tons of oil or salt. It seems like they rely on using fresh ingredients and getting the seasoning right rather than hiding behind tons of sauce. The vegetables were plentiful and cooked so they still had some bite to them. The items labeled as spicy were very mild and could have used some more heat, but otherwise everything was excellent. With tip all that we got was in the low $80s and fed 4 people (including a ravenous teen boy). Trying to do too much. We looked forward to going to China Yi because everyone knows we need a good, reliable Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood. First the positives: the chicken and broccoli was done well in white sauce and it was delicious. The chow fun was cooked so that it was neither raw nor burned. The positives were the dim sum. The dim sum dishes were representatives meant to stand for actual dim sum but were actually a weak attempt. The ingredients and flavors were lacking as well as the sizes. But that is not surprising. Very few restaurants get both the dim sum and its main dishes spot on. Our advice would be to focus on making the dishes well and drop the dim sum. Leave the dim sum restaurants to do their thing. read more

The egg rolls were hot, crispy but a little mushy inside 7/10. The wontons were the best I've ever had! A very full and juicy inside with a super crispy outside...10/10 The potstickers were ok. I'd give them an 8/10. My one complaint is I asked for extra hot mustard and got one tiny little cup. Barely enough for an egg roll. Cmon, don't be cheap China Yi! Oh and please, please, please add some egg foo yung to your menu! Overall, 9/10 and I will definitely be a returning patron. read more
