    Lots of food.

CHINATOWN CAFE 06-19-24 We tried the all you can eat buffet. The restaurant was clean had a nice atmosphere. It was about 5:30 pm. They were filling the buffet up fuller for the dinner rush. The food was hot and fresh. They had many choices. Almost too many! I think they had something for everyone. They had Sushi, a fungus type grill where you pick your meat and veggies and they cook them for you. Many choices! The food was about average. Nothing special just good.

Okay loooooook y'all. It's a Chinese food buffet. But let me tell you something. It's pretty dang good!! My husband's side of the family has been coming here for years. Somebody graduates, Chinatown, funeral, Chinatown. It is what it is. The service here is impeccable!! Our drinks stayed full, plates were picked up quickly, napkins were plentiful, I was quite impressed!! The restaurant itself is pretty old but they keep it sparkly clean!! You could see your reflection in the floors, plus plenty of wall TVs around if you need to catch up on the news. So many different choices including: sesame chicken, broccoli beef, salt n pepper shrimp, pizza, salad, all the noooooodles, fried rice, soup(s), and a stir fry area. The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the sushi area. Sushi is all rice and the rolls fall apart when you try to eat it. But the buffet itself was delicious!! I also appreciate that they have specials deals during different hours. We went as a big group so got one person in free! That was cool. And if you haven't heard of the app TOO GOOD TO GO, download it right meow. Love restaurants that participate and help out with food waste. It's always a nice surprise (and probably a bit of a gamble) getting a bunch of buffet leftovers but it hits the spot!! Go check them out!! Great little buffet in Denton.

This was my first time here but I will go back next time I'm in Denton. They offer a buffet and a menu option. I ordered from the menu option and got my food to go. I ordered the combination lo mein combination, the mushrooms in garlic butter sauce, a side of sauteed green beans and onions, and I attempted to order General Tso chicken. The person taking my order was very nice and she showed me the to go menu but I had already looked up what I wanted online. There was no one else in line so I was able to immediately order my to go items. They were able to get my order together quickly, it took about 15 minutes. I was taking food to my friend who is in the hospital. When I opened the bag, my mushrooms were correct. My lo mein was correct. My green beans were correct. But unfortunately they gave me a different type of chicken than what I ordered and it was for the person who was in the hospital. That is the reason that I gave them a 4, since one of my orders was wrong. Thankfully, my friend still really enjoyed the meal, considering. I do have to say, they have a really generous portion sizes, reasonable prices, and the food was really good.

I spent an hour today with Andrew & Theresa, Dining Service VIPs, who gave me a tour and a lot of information. Eagle Landing is strategically located across the street from UNT's new visitors center. It's $8.20 + tax at the door, anyone can eat there, all-you-can-to-eat. Students can use their Meal Plan just like the other dining halls. There was a steady flow of students who were loving every minute of this adventure. I was told that it's been so popular that it's common for a line to start at the door and wrap around the block. This is a food-hall style setting, meaning you visit any station you want, find a place to sit, stay as long as you like. There are 7 restaurants: WOOD GRILL (opening soon). Food cooked over a wood grill. AVENUE A (open) is homestyle favorites like fried chicken, mac & cheese, smoked BBQ, plus breakfast all day. LEAF (open) is plant-based featuring greens grown at Mean Green Acres, a non-GMO hydroponic garden, as well as fresh veggies, salads, soups, and plenty of 100% plant-based options. La Mesa (open) is a Latin fusion like street tacos, burritos, and tortillas made from scratch. BAMBOO (opening soon) Asian-inspired wok plus stir-fried rice & noodle dishes. CLARK BAKERY (open) is exactly what it sounds like! Yes, fresh pastries, warm cookies, cobblers, in-house homemade ice cream (shakes too!) and more. CIBO FRESCO (open) serving pizza, calzones, stromboli, and a daily pasta toss. I did notice that there is more space available for more restaurants, nice! This two story building offers numerous seating spaces. There are tables, booths, bar tops, and benches. There are quaint quiet areas, as well as, wide-open, European style seating. Social distancing is in place and enforced (notice the green ribbons).

In March 2019, my dad and I both became extremely ill after eating here. I woke up at 3 a.m. with a very high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. I was sick for hours and continued dealing with nausea for nearly five days. We both ended up in the ER, and I required IV fluids and monitoring. It was, without question, the sickest I have ever been. I reported this restaurant to city code, and the health department was there within an hour of my complaint. Below is the report from the health department: "Anonymous, Our inspection of the New China King Buffet did not go well, and the restaurant has been closed until it can come up to basic health standards. In short, the kitchen needs a thorough cleaning, temperature rules were not being obeyed, and practices within the kitchen were not up to modern standards. Again, I am sorry that you and your family became ill, but I do appreciate you taking the time to inform us of the problem. Please let me know if there is anything more that I can provide you. Respectfully, Kevin Cummings | Chief Health Inspector Department of Development Services | Consumer Health Division" What concerns me even more is that the restaurant appeared to reopen almost immediately. I'm not sure how that process works, but it was surprising given the severity of the violations. When I later filed a BBB complaint, the restaurant responded with claims that I showed up the next day to argue with them. That is completely false. I didn't leave my house for a week for being so ill. They also suggested only my dad was affected, which is also untrue--we were both seriously ill. This makes me question whether there were other incidents they may be confusing this with. They even threatened legal action over my review, which I find unreasonable. Customers have every right to share their honest experiences. Based on what happened to us and the pattern of reviews since, I would strongly urge others to be cautious when eating here.
