One of the best asian buffets I've been to. Good variety of every form of chicken dish, and a mongolian grill as well as some simple sushi. There are several soups and enough choices to keep my vegetarian girlfriend interested. 10 bucks for dinner is a bit more than I look to pay, but sometimes you are in that mood to not look over a complicated menu at another place. If I could of given zero stars I would! I ordered take out of Pepper Steak. When I got home and took a bite it tasted like shrimp and such! Had no beef taste at all! This is my favorite splurge-meal place to eat. Unfortunately, it is a bit hit-and-miss. Sometimes it is crazy good and sometimes it is mediocre. I've noticed that if I go before or right at lunch time the food is cold and looks to be left-over. The food is very hot and fresh if I go right after the lunch rush when all the entrees have been restocked. I do not like that the staff sometimes takes all the cups from the table to refill the water. I always make a mark on my cup to make sure I get the same cup in return and they sometimes swap my cup with my fellow diner's cup. My favorite selection is their jalapeño chicken. It is fantastic! We have found our favorite Denton Chinese food! Anything and everything we wanted was here like the chicken, sauces, rice, noodles, egg drop soup. They even have a sushi bar and an ice cream bar. Everything i had here was cold and tasted like dog food. I had to go get food elsewhere after i attempted to eat here. Just save your health and don't do chinese buffet. One of the worker was spitting on the floor in the kitchen. I only noticed because i was waiting for my food to be cooked at the grill and another worker healdsburg the door open abe was chatting with the guy at the grill and the guy in the kitchen. This was the second worst Chinese buffet I ever ate at. I have eaten at a ton of different Chinese buffets throughout the metroplex over the years. I have my favorites but I thought I would try a new one in Denton. This had the best online reviews and so I tried it. I showed up just before 7pm on a Wednesday. What food was left had been sitting out for a long, long time. The outside edges had already crusted over in most cases from just sitting there. I kept trying a little of various things to try to find something decent. I should have just walked out and regret not doing so. They didn't even label things correctly. Many, many things were labeled with something other than what was there. Granted, you can usually guess that something with bones in it isn't "fried broccoli" but it just shows how little they care. The baked salmon was out and after asking for it to be replaced four times they finally brought out something that resembled cat food with cheese on it. The Mongolian grill barely had anything left but I tried it in an attempt to find something somewhat decent. Hopefully I don't get sick from eating their food. The online reviews were either wrong, or they went downhill fast. Either way, I'd avoid this place. I will be. read more

We were there at 6pm so you think it would be fresh. The flavors were off, the soup was more sour than hot and sour, The Sushi was not good. Matter of fact Kroger sushi is better. The restaurant was hot and the service was poor. Very disappointed. I actually got sick, and I believe it was food poisoning. Started throwing up about 3 hrs after we left. My wife and I went there for a late lunch/early dinner. Couldn't wait to try this place. Well the buffet items were left overs from the lunch service. Granted it was a Monday afternoon @ 3:50, not a busy time. The sweet and sour chicken was cold as well as the lo mein, egg rolls and other items. When we getting ready to pay our bill we were going to be charged the dinner rate. My wife challenged this and the hostess changed this to the lunch rate. Best Asian Buffet hands down! They don't use cheap oils in their sauces that upset your stomach like other places do. Big selection- everything was piping hot and very good. My entire family were quite impressed with Chinatown Cafe this Saturday evening. We've dined at this restaurant/AYCE buffet several times. It's usually been at lunchtime, and it's always been good, no complaints ever. This week we dined during the dinner hour and were especially impressed at the expansion of food types from lunch to dinner. We were pleased to find several types of seafood to choose from, including mussels, clams and oysters- each a differently-prepared dish with it's own unique flavor. This time, the clams had been cooked with fresh jalapenos, which worked well. The fried calamari was tender, not chewy as so often is found, wherever you go. There was an incredible variety of food from which to choose . . . makings of a spectacular dinner and good time with friends or family. Of course, there were many Chinese dishes as one would expect to see, also seeming as fresh as possible and appropriately tasty in their expected forms. Such a great variety, and for dinner they had a desserts bar and also a separate bakery bar, packed. Anyone could find something to eat at this restaurant's buffet, and as well could order from the menu if they chose. I'm not positive, but call ahead if you're interested- I believe there was a bar too- I hardly notice this aspect when I'm just going out to eat . . . but seem to remember bar stools and an area to the left as we entered. We were seated quickly, so I didn't pay particular attention to this area. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming to anyone who enters, any age. There are tables and booths for seating, and table chairs are more comfortable than most restaurants provide for their customers these days. (We've noticed many new joints getting away from booths at all, which is ridiculous). There's adequate spacing around the seating at Chinatown Cafe- they have a lot of square footage and use it wisely without sacrificing comforts. They have a back room which I'm sure is able to be reserved for large groups; otherwise it's more area to accommodate their busiest times. We were glad to see that all the area road construction over the last years has not forced closure of this family restaurant. It'd be a shame to lose this one- an easy "best Chinese buffet" for it's price in an area accessible to both townies and traveling patrons, just a bit from I-35 and on the University/Bonnie Brae intersection. Appropriately-dressed, professional wait-staff! This casual dining spot takes care that the waitstaff don't seem casual themselves. Yet, they feel casual and offer a relaxing atmosphere. By far, the worst buffet I have been to in years! My group of 5 stopped in for dinner on a Wednesday night at about 8:30. The food on the buffet was so bad in comparison to ANY Chinese buffet I've ever had. My daughter and friends were so hungry due to being at the hospital, just down the road, all day. We payed attention to the woman tending the dishes and noticed they had added zero fresh food the entire time we were there. I asked the guy in the kitchen if I could get someone to make me some avocado rolls and he said, "I don't know. I don't make sushi rolls.". He walked away and I had to ask the waitress. She yelled to the closed section of the seating area to a table of 4 people, whom I assume worked there, and a guy got up and went to make the rolls. When he was done, he just set them up on the buffet w the other sushi. Had I not realized he had returned to his table, where I realized they were eating, I wouldn't have known he had finished. The dishes we tried were bland and had obviously been sitting a while. When we left, nobody thanked us when we paid or even said goodbye. I promise you we will never return. The most I can say about this place is that the food is edible. Barely. I have never sat down, ate, and left a restaurant so fast in my lifetime. I am concerned for anyone who returns to this place after eating at it the first time. There is no possible way their taste buds are normal. To start off, we first noticed the poop was still in the shrimp, unfortunately we did not think to take a picture in the moment. We tried to stay optimistic, but everything else we ate (genera tso chicken, lo mein, crawfish, sushi, beef and broccoli) followed with disappointment. I do not know why we thought eating fish from a chinese buffet was a smart idea; however, we now know this results into a lot of vomit in the same night. The only reason this place even deserves a one star is for the strawberry ice cream which isn't even made in house. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT even think to eat at this place.
