I wasn't planning to write a review, but this place left such a bad taste in my mouth (pun intended) that I still get angry thinking about it. In March 2019, my dad and I both became extremely ill after eating here. I woke up at 3 a.m. with a very high fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. I was sick for hours and continued dealing with nausea for nearly five days. We both ended up in the ER, and I required IV fluids and monitoring. It was, without question, the sickest I have ever been. I reported this restaurant to city code, and the health department was there within an hour of my complaint. Below is the report from the health department: "Anonymous, Our inspection of the New China King Buffet did not go well, and the restaurant has been closed until it can come up to basic health standards. In short, the kitchen needs a thorough cleaning, temperature rules were not being obeyed, and practices within the kitchen were not up to modern standards. Again, I am sorry that you and your family became ill, but I do appreciate you taking the time to inform us of the problem. Please let me know if there is anything more that I can provide you. Respectfully, Kevin Cummings | Chief Health Inspector Department of Development Services | Consumer Health Division" What concerns me even more is that the restaurant appeared to reopen almost immediately. I'm not sure how that process works, but it was surprising given the severity of the violations. When I later filed a BBB complaint, the restaurant responded with claims that I showed up the next day to argue with them. That is completely false. I didn't leave my house for a week for being so ill. They also suggested only my dad was affected, which is also untrue--we were both seriously ill. This makes me question whether there were other incidents they may be confusing this with. They even threatened legal action over my review, which I find unreasonable. Customers have every right to share their honest experiences. Based on what happened to us and the pattern of reviews since, I would strongly urge others to be cautious when eating here. read more

New to the Denton area, Read the reviews but not sure why there where so many negative ones. Wife and I found the restaurant clean, food was fresh and everything we tried was good. Service was on the spot. It's your typical Chinese buffet but they had everything we liked except for "orange chicken" one of our favorites. Something else that most other Chinese restaurants don't have was hard packed ice cream, ( 6 or 8 flavors),not the soft serve chocolate/vanilla like most. Their chicken on a stick was way worse than the ones from Regal buffet in Lewisville, even though they looked like they came from the same vendor. The restaurant was clean and comfortable. Wasn't a lot of people so it was kinda quiet. They seated us right away and got our drink order. The buffet looked promising! There's a lot to choose from. I sampled a little of many things. The food wasn't anything special. It all kinda tasted blah. Most was mushy and pretty tasteless. I don't need to come back. I don't leave a lot of reviews but we needed something quick and didn't want fast food. Looked up a Chinese buffet in Denton and I normally don't expect much but this place was spectacular! Hibachi was near if not better than restaurant quality everything I had was fresh hot and delicious! And for my Lawton, OK friends that know hot and spicy chicken they had something very similar which is a first for me. They had crab legs (I didn't try cause didn't want to make a mess) crawfish, hot wings, sushi including a fried roll,6-7 differnet kinds of shrimp dishes, whole steaks at hibachi, 8 different ice creams, chocolate fountain etc. below are pictures I'd tag them on FB but can't find a page. If you're in Denton and like Asian food it's a must try nothing fancy but absolutely delicious and I don't say that often when it comes to my Asian food I normally cook it at home cause restaurants disappoint these days. We went to this restaurant today and as we were walking up, there was a dead mouse in front of the restaurant. When we got inside we told the lady behind the register About it and she said she was aware of it when we left the restaurant. About 25 minutes later the mouse was still lying on the ground dead; no one picked it up. I will never be going back there again The food wasn't that good. read more

I've eaten here many times. Usually this is my favorite, but today the food was obviously not cooked fresh!!! The green beans were refrigerator cold on the inside!! None of the food was hot on the indide like usual. The cream cheese jalapeños were cold in inside as well as coating was stone cold and nasty! The price is reasonable to what it worth. It isn't as big as their another location in Arlington but the food was consistent. The fried food is always the best, especially the crab ragoon. Not terrible but could definitely use improvement. The sushi was all very room temperature which was off putting. The fried rice was also lack luster and had weird hard chunks mixed in. Also- everyone knows- one of the best things about Chinese buffets is the jello. It has that firmness to it that regular jello just doesn't have. The jello here? Very squishy. if i'm being honest i don't think this place even deserve a star period. we came in and i told the lady at the counter that my child was 10 because she is and she gave us dirty looks and changed the child age limit after that. As we are getting our food she is staring us down and giving us dirty looks. So the customer service was awful. We tell the lady that there was a roach AND SHE HAD THE FLY SWATTER READY LIKE ITS NOT THE FIRST TIME THEY SEEN A ROACH! We got grossed out and we tried to leave, staff wasn't helpful in trying to resolve the issue; we showed the picture at the lady in the front and she tries to delete the pictures i took of the roach to hide evidence. Denton has been a good central meeting spot for us when we visit McKinney and want to see our friends from Saginaw. And where better than a buffet like New China King? While I'm not certain that I found any specific "stand-out" dishes on the buffet, there is a good variety. One disappointment was that on the lunch buffet there was only one dish that featured shrimp. I'm especially fond of their garlic green beans and potstickers. Also, the pepper beef. Very good .. I just missed the senior discount 10% off 65yrs and over. Visited dinner .. Salmon, crayfish, shrimp, chicken wings, vegetables dishes, and desserts. The shrimp with sauce was good but the breaded shrimp was a little dry. All the other dishes I had was good. A lot of variety too many for me to taste each one. This used to be our favorite spot and we went a while ago and the food was absolutely horrible. My husband ate off of his plate and I didn't even touch mine. We let the server know and asking for fresh food and she ignored us. So we went to leave and the "manager" tried making us pay for both plates and if we didn't she was calling the police. Steamed rice is the de facto with Chinese dishes so if you are ordering take out and specifically want fried rice, then order it from the menu under fried rice dishes. Also for take out, if you want your dish spiced a certain way let them know. The buffet has all kinds of Chinese food, or select from the Sushi bar or get American food like pizza or stacks of ribs, or do all three...all you can eat glory! read more

Wife and I ate here today for lunch. We got a flyer in the mail. We were not disappointed. I got the Kung Pao chicken. It was spicy, but not overly spicy. First: I will not EVER go back to this restaurant. Christmas night. They were VERY busy. I placed my order over the phone with the guy. He took my name, took payment over the phone. Told me 50 minutes. I arrived in the restaurant then I stood in the entryway for 10 minutes before I said something to make sure the food sitting on the cabinet wasn't mine. The guy told me I would need to speak to the lady, she was the boss. I told him that I placed my order with him, he took my payment over the phone. Again he said I need to speak with her, she's the boss. Other people had issues. He kept telling everyone that we need to speak to her, she is the boss. She came back, more issues.....I had been standing there for 30 minutes at this point. I was done. When the lady came back I spoke up and said I had enough, I'd like my money back and cancel the order. She started to head back to the kitchen and I said oh, no, I need to speak to you. He says you're the boss, we have to speak with you, so you're the one to talk to. She came back and wanted to know my order number. I explained I didn't have one, the guy in the Hawaiian shirt took my order over the phone, then took payment over the phone. I showed her my bank account where the charge for $66.55 was already charged, she asked my name. I told her Rose, like the flower. That's when I saw recognition on the guy's face. Initially, he thought I said my name is Roy. So I said my name again and commented, like the flower. She gave me a refund. He piped up with "so sorry, so sorry." I will say, SHE was very busy, she was back and forth from the kitchen getting orders. She was harried and overwhelmed. HE walked around with his phone in his hand with an air of him acting like the manager but when there was ANY issue, he would comment "she is the boss, you need to speak with her" After standing there watching HER work her butt off, and watching HIM wander around with an uppity attitude shirking every possibility of responsibility for any problem behind her back. If it were me, I'd FIRE him! OR I sit down and come up with a much better plan that still works when it gets super busy. Part of good management is delegating responsibility, not the manager having ALL of the responsibilities. Give HIM the cart and have HIM collect the food from the kitchen so SHE can handle the issues with having 8 people standing in the lobby waiting for takeout orders. read more
