This Chinese Restaurant seemed to use precooked wonton strips, appetizers and fried ice cream. The wontons were almost uncooked and greasy, and were cold. Same with the Crab puffs. First, no Crab; second, cold interior. Cashew chicken veggies were cool, but the chicken and cashews were warm. LOTS of veggies 8 pieces of chicken, small pieces. Fried icecream outside was like a pie crust, looked like it was dipped in oil, and the ice cream had ice shards, as if it had been refrozen a few times. Terrible Pad See EW!! I was so looking forward to Pad SEE Ew with Chicken which usually comes with a brown sweet sauce. this one was clear and had no flavor. When I opened up my to go container before paying I told the woman this was not Pad See Ew but she insisted it was. I travel a lot with work and every place I have had this dish it was with a brown sauce, other states and countries. I asked her if they could make something else for me and she said I would have to pay for the Pad See Ew and the new dish I ordered. I will never go back there again which is a shame because I use to like it there. Very disappointed!! read more

I showed up with around 10 people and you would think the restaurant would have been more excited to see us. The place was virtually empty and I thought the service should be pretty quick today as there were only three other tables to serve. Wrong. Our plates came out over the course of 15 minutes. When my tea was empty, that was it. We finally had to go pay at the counter as everyone finished up, some of us having been done for quite a while since the plates showed up at different times. As far as Chinese food goes, this one has become a favorite. The interior of the building is not especially fetching but it is clean which is good enough for me. Some might argue about the merits of one dish or another, but when I want some lo mein or fried rice, THIS Is what I'm craving. My own personal gripe would be that their egg rolls do not match up to some other local spots but I really enjoyed the two previously mentioned dishes as well as their Pad Thai. The wife loves the cashew chicken as well, so this is an amazing spot to have so close to my house. read more

We ordered (take put) tofu pad Thai, combo fried rice, sesame chicken, and crispy Thai egg rolls. Everything was great! I liked how separate red pepper flakes, minced peanuts, and sauce were included in the take out box so I could add them to my taste. The meat and shrimp in the fried rice were cooked well, all juicy and flavorful. I really liked the subtle spice in the egg rolls. The sesame chicken was juicy and the sauce had a little bit of spice to it. The people there were very friendly. We walked in, ordered, went to Lee Lee's, and our food was ready when we finished shopping (15 minutes). The restaurant itself is nothing fancy but it's spacious. I would feel fine going there for a laid back date night with my husband or friends. We went on a Monday around 5 and the place was empty. Stopped in to Chinese Combo/Thai Cuisine for a late lunch on a Saturday (2pm). Two other tables were occupied when I arrived. I seated myself and the server was quick to deliver the lunch menu and take my order. I chose the sweet & sour pork with wonton soup ($1.50 up charge) and white rice. The wonton soup was very good. Nice and light with a clean broth garnished with fresh zucchini, carrot, spring onions, and cabbage. The wontons themselves were filled with ground meat and minced vegetables. The main entree arrived quickly. It composed of a good ten pieces or so of 1/2" cubes of pork that had been battered and deep fried. They were served unsauced so they were nicely crisp and hot. The pork was lightly seasoned so as not to detract from the good pork flavor. The accomanying rice was shaped into a half-spherical mound. Nice and flavorful, as good rice should be. The sweet&sour sauce was thin, not too thick and cloyingly sweet. There was also a small veggie(?) egg roll which was crisp and hot. Altogether I was in and out in less than 30 min and very satisfied with my meal. read more

Wandering around and looking for a Thai Restaurant near out hotel after the Gem Show we ended up at this place. The GPS on my phone kept pulling up this place instead of the one we wanted to go to so we just decided to eat there. We were put off by the title and the fact that it is next to a check cashing place, but we were so tired of driving around and hungry, besides it was next to a Asian market/mall and I've had wildly delicious meals in similar places in L.A. I have to admit seeing the Chinese Combo Thai Restaurant sign made me suspicious. Ordered Panang Curry and Pad Thai with some rice egg rolls. The rice egg rolls were good and it was great that we had the option to have gluten free egg rolls served with a sugary sauce. The Curry was okay, but very sweet and not very fragrant as the Thai food I am accustomed to. It did not seem so authentic and there weren't enough vegetables. The Pad Thai had linguine like noodles, not the wide substantial ones, and very little vegetables. It did not have that wok cooked roasted flavor I have had and prefer. Again it was very sugary and the aromatic spices did not come through. It was more like a fast food version attempt at Thai. Portions were not generous. It was okay, but did not satisfy my cravings for the typical exotic and aromatic spices and aromas of the Thai food I have eaten elsewhere. Chinese Combo Express is very, very consistent. They have great little lunch specials which come with a small soup and an egg roll and are very inexpensive. My husband and I order takeout from here every so often. It is always fresh and prepared correctly. I've never had anything missing from the order :) Tucson is not known for Chinese food. This place is pretty decent for Tucson. The chicken pad Thai has a nice viscosity to the sauce and the flavors are good. I like that they put both the hot spices on the side so you can make it super spicy if you like. They also put their crushed peanuts on the side so you can control the amount of crunch on your noodles. The noodles have that great chewy texture and overall it's a nice dish. We typically will change up what we order, but it's worth noting that the General Taos Chicken is a bit on the sweeter side rather than spicy. I like the way they fry the chicken they use. Crisp and the chicken is moist. The panang chicken curry is excellent. Sweet from the coconut milk and spicy and the sauce is nice and thick. Their hot and sour soup also needs a mention because it is flavorful and complex. One of the best hot and sour soups I've had. The ambiance of the actual storefront is not fancy. Definitely stick to takeout!! read more

Wow, I think something has changed since these reviews were written. We were hungry after a hike, wanted Thai. Possibly one of the worst dinners I've had. We ordered seafoood combo Tom kha kai, eggrolls and chicken pad Thai. the pad Thai was a strange orange red with no eggs visible, no spice at all. Side of peanut crumbles and sad dry chili powder. Soup broth was ok, but the seafood was dubious. We were accidentally served and charged for a "seafood combo plate " should have insisted on sending back, but felt bad that they sent it. Tasted it - over the top salt and dubious looking proteins. Topping it off all severed on paper plates and wrong beer brought on second round. Radically over priced $70 for the lot. read more

Affordable with HUGE portions. It's nice to have an option of Thai and Chinese. The place is lit up so you don't go for atmosphere , but it's tidy and isn't tacky or lacking in taste. Usually just has one server, maybe even the owner. I guess I took away a star because there is nothing special about the service, just really good food. I will also say this in hope that they read it. Just check on the restrooms now and then. Which makes it more of a 3 1/2 start but I didn't want to take it down to a 3, so sticking with 4. read more

Once I discovered this place I have been back several times. I usually order takeout and dined in once. The service is friendly and superb. The food is consistently delicious. I love the sesame tofu dish, the tofu is crispy and the sauce is so good. I'm looking forward to trying the Thai dishes once I burn out on the sesame tofu dish. read more

My family and I decided to give this place one more try, thinking maybe they have improved since it had been about 1 year since we last tried, we'll I was still disappointed I ordered the sweet and sour chicken, it was absolutely HORRIBLE the chicken tasted old, stale, it was cook so crispy that it was nothing but batter, no meat just batter, Chinese Combo u should be ashamed of yourself to serve something to a customer that's not eatable. The Chinese cuisine at Chinese Combo Express is underwhelming and served in extremely small to-go portions. The beef chow fun is served WITHOUT any kind of sauce: just a few noodles, a few pieces of beef, and a smattering of veggies - very strange. The "Thai" food contains no trace of ANY ingredients actually used in Thai cooking (e.g. cilantro, coconut milk, galangal, etc.) The flavors and textures in Chinese Combo's version of Thai food are really quite foul. Please do not offer food for sale that you cannot actually make. Half star for saying that they do not cook with MSG and the other half to the friendly hostess. read more

I had lunch here with coworkers today, and it was pretty good! The fact that you can choose either Chinese or Thai food was pretty cool. I had the yellow curry, and egg drop soup. It the perfect amount of food, tasted great. Service was very good too! I like the wanton crisps with the sweet sauce that was brought to the table - a Chinese version of nachos :) The prices were great too! The 6 - 7 dollar range for lunches!! Super decent takeout! Food was not greasy at all and the menu actual had authentic dishes such as the egg drop seaweed soup. Not the yellow soup but this is something we actually make at home. It needs some vinegar but passable. I go the tofu with veggies and beef chow fun. It wasn't the beef chow fun I'm normally used to. It was more watery but still very good. Overall I will def order from here again. They have no website and no menu available online. A yelper was nice enough to post a picture. read more

Yesterday, we went for lunch here. Which was great because they have a lunch menu. This gave my husband and I a chance to choose either Chinese or Thai food from the menu. He chose the Orange Chicken and I chose the Pad Thai. With the lunch menu you get to choose a soup which we chose the egg drop soup which was delicious. The dinner menu does not include a soup with crispy wontons unless you order it separately. Good for us to know. Prices at lunch for our meals were 2$ less for each one about $7.90 for each, dinner is 9.00. Along with the lunch menu you get a very small egg roll too with sweet and sour sauce. My husband's Orange Chicken was sticky sweet with cut vegies and white rice. My Pad Thai came with rice noodles that included sliced green onion, bean sprouts and I ordered it to include chicken. There were sides of chopped peanuts, sliced lime and red pepper flakes. The tamarind sauce in the Pad Thai was sweet and sour, which I love. So, if you have friends and loved ones that like Chinese and Thai food this place is top notch. In addition, for dessert I would walk around the corner to the Vietnamese restaurant called Com Tam Thuan Kieu and have their dessert of 3 mung bean dessert. Also, their Vietnamese spring rolls #2 come with the best peanut sauce in Tucson! read more

If I lived around this place, I would go there every day for lunch. The lunch deals are real deals! I love how their dishes have a considerable amount of veggies compared to most other asian places I've been to. The dishes also taste fresh and healthier. My favorites are the Thai stir-frys, the spring rolls and the peanut sauce, and of course the Thai tea. Although the Thai curries are a bit sweeter than the ones I've had in Thailand, they're all quite authentic. I would highly recommend trying this place out. And if you're into authentic Chinese food, ask them for the Chinese menu! read more

EWWWWWW!!!!!! Never again! This place SUCKSSSSS! I ordered a chinese basic: Pork Fried Rice and Vegetable Chow Mien. That was the nastiest "fried" rice ever! The rice first of all was not "fried" it was mushy white rice that had soy sauce poured on it. The pork was scary to even look a, not sure how it tasted cuz I wouldn't eat it. It was pale, strips of port (?) that appeared to have been boiled....just gross. The Veg Chow Mien was fine, hopefully any chinese restaurant can make basic vegetables. But then again, I expected a Chinese restaurant to be able to make fried rice also! Wont make this mistake again. read more

Ordered to take out from here about a half dozen times. Have not dined in yet. The restaurant is well kept and has a inviting atmosphere. Awesome selection to choose from. Prices are fair. Fresh, tasty and authentic. The portions are very generous. The last time I ordered, they weren't being very liberal with the meat portions. Got more vegetables and rice then anything. Not a deal breaker though, CCE will still be on the options for take out or possibly sit down. read more

First time my husband and I tried Chinese Combo. We came for the Thai food and will definitely return. Shrimp spring rolls and crispy fried spring rolls were some of the best we've had. They came with 3 dipping sauces too. Chicken Penang curry and beef green curry were delicious. Next time we'll order the green beef spicier. The portions were generous. I took half my Penang home for lunch the next day. Service was fast with a very nice waitress handling 6 tables. Prices were right in line. This place is located right next to Lee Lee's market, which means fresh produce and authentic items are used in the cooking. We had the lunch menu which was very reasonably priced at 5.99- this comes with soup, rice and egg roll, so plenty to fill you up. We ordered the Panang Curry which we cook at home and know very well- the flavor was nice, but a bit on the sweet side, overall a nice dish though. They added carrots and peas which is a bit odd though....We also ordered the Larb which was very good. We used to live in Thailand and this was a pretty close replication of the dish we love. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable and was able to answer all of our questions- even about preparation of Thai dishes that were not on the menu. It's not the fanciest place, but sensibly priced. We will be back to check out the other Thai menu options. read more

This is the best Thai food in town, hands down. However, they have weird house rules, don't go there within an hour of closing, they will not allow you to dine in. The first time I went here a few months ago, the food tasted fine, but was kind of greasy. Something we ordered made me feel sick later on, but the woman working there was friendly and helpful while I had my infant son. Today, I went back with my baby and the service was completely opposite. I didn't even stick around to order food, it was that bad. First, I've been craving something I ordered there last time for a few days. I finally drove over from Marana today. When I got there, I was again balancing a baby on my hip. There was one family eating and zero signs of an employee. I waited for several minutes looking over the menu even though I knew what I wanted. A woman popped out from the kitchen carrying a To-Go order for someone else. That person happened to walk in just as the employee was talking to me. Instead of helping me as I told her I wanted to place an order, she proceeded to carry on with the person who had just walked in. Fine, they ordered ahead, no big deal. Well, then walks in a couple who will be dining in. The same female employee who helped the person who walked in after me grabbed two menus and escorted them to a seat. This is based just on their Thai tom kha Jay soup. I've been to thailand....and can not compare the soup from there to here. But this is by far the best tom kha I've ever had. The broth is not over powered by coconut milk. It has a great balance of flavor from the lemon grass, and may even have a hint of orange some where. Will Def be back just for this soup. read more
