I feel like Chinese Kitchen has the East Bank on lock and China Doll has the west bank on lock. Prior to 2020, it was years since I visited this restaurant. During Covid I came, waited in line and ordered my usual (sweet and sour chicken) but it just didn't do it for me. I decided to give them another try and it was better this time around but still not how it used to be. My only complaint is that the chicken lacked seasoned. Once you add the sweet and sour sauce, it taste great but if you're eating it without the sauce, it doesn't have any seasoning. Other then that, everything was good. The rice was delicious, loved the sweet and sour sauce, and the egg roll was good. FYI : cash only and there will be a line but the line moves quick.

Low mein is spaghetti and is absolute trash it was 40 bucks

Sketchy and nasty and very very expensive used spaghetti in low mein do not come here both Togo boxes looked like soup with noodles and flavorless

So this is place is apart of my childhood memories. Whenever we could come to the city be it to visit family or for festivals or anything we always stopped here. I can remember my mom's order for us! Me and my brothers would split an 11A and she would order a large shrimp fried rice with $2 worth of extra shrimp and extra eggs. This was when prices was prices lol. For the sake of childhood memories I had to stop. The inside is still the same the only thing is that the front sitting area is just a waiting area for take out. But it's looks the exact same way the bamboo it's all there. Now there is no longer an 11 A it's just a 11 and of course the prices are not the same. The only issue I had was now you have to pay for fortune cookies they aren't included with your meal. It's 10 for a $1 but it's the principle. The wait for short I got three 11's and my total was $52 and some change. I got it to go and the food was still hot when I made it back to Baton Rouge and the taste was just as a remembered. It was more than enough food to feed three people over two days.

The service and ambiance is like going through a drive-thru they take your order and you get a number on your ticket and wait for your order in another area. Not the best looking facility because it's a old restaurant. They are usually pretty quick but if you have to wait it's definitely worth the wait. My food is always fresh and seasoned well.

Finally! After hearing that this was the spot for Chinese in Nola I finally stopped here to try it for myself. Yes, there was a line and yes it is worth the wait. Due to Covid they do not have dine in. They have this down to a science. Take your order and wait a few minutes and wa la fresh hot food in your hand. I got the boneless chicken combo with no vegetables. This is some seriously good fried chicken. Crispy and crispy! My hubs got the sweet and sour chicken which is the same chicken with the sauce on the side. It was so different with the vegetables inside of it but tasted good. He also never really eats egg rolls but ate this one and said it was the best one he has tasted so far. I will for sure stand in line again for this place and highly recommend you do too.

Food was fresh and delicious. Walked in and there was no wait. Didn't take long at all before I had my order. 15 minutes tops.

Not enough sauce (this is filler words for the character limit, wow I have to write a lot)

I got the egg rolls. They were hot but super greasy and the egg drop soup was way too thick and my order was ready in 3 minutes. 3/10

Rather than pursuing a burger, I decided to try this well regarded Chinese restaurant across the street from my hotel. This review is based on one item I got for takeout: Szechuan Beef. I am never one to equate quantity with quality. I'm also not well-versed in authentic Chinese. I'm mostly familiar with American Chinese. I ordered Szechuan beef expecting a dry stir fry of beef strips tossed with dried Szechuan peppers. Instead I got a 1 quart container with a zesty, moderately spicy broth loaded with tender strips of melt-in-your-mouth beef. This was pure heaven, and was an explosion of tangy flavor. The quart could've easily served a family of 4. That would just require another side of rice. This was just outstanding! The restaurant was compact yet inviting and service was great. I placed my takeout order on site at the counter, but they have table service.

I have worked in China on and off for years and have eaten many varieties of hot pot in China and Taiwan. This one was ridiculously bad. Like they dont even know what hot pot is. The sweet waiter tried to explain the concept of hot pot, but it was clear that he was not familiar with the real thing. It was cubes of chicken, celery, tomatoes and peppers in a lukewarm broth. Took forever to get hot enough to cook our extra vegies. The vegies didn't look fresh. There were no a la cart sauces. The waiter pointed to the soy sauce and chili oil that were for dumplings and told us that sauce doesn't go with hot pot. My advice is to go to the other Dian Xin where there is no hot pot but the food tastes authentic.

This week I wanted to visit spots successfully catering to locals and stumbled upon this tiny neighborhood hidden gem. Hidden because one would have easily missed it repeatedly when driving (or walking) past since the whole exterior was so unassuming at first glance. It only showed up on my radar when I meticulously searched for seafood spots on different platforms and randomly stumbled on their Facebook page. Best boiled crawfish and shrimp it said. Always fresh it exclaimed. Decently priced it stated. Well, this I had to go see it for myself and put to test. This was obviously a detour from my planned R&D in NOLA but was definitely a spot that must be designed for locals (and random tourists like me). This was confirmed immediately when I stepped in to see a long line of construction workers from the nearby site picking up lunch and some young kids digging into bags of shrimp and crawfish in utter delight. While looking at their sharpie streaked menu, I noticed quite a number of customers striking up conversations with the lady behind the plexiglass like long lost friends as they too picked up food to-go. Yeah, definitely a local friendly spot. Shrimp and crawfish by the pound was CHEAP in comparison to all the places in the area I've been. The best part? After getting back to the AirBnB, I realized just how good and fresh the seafood was! Succulent, very well seasoned, and not severely overcooked (like some spots around here prefer to serve it). I could taste the spices and aromatic vegetables used in the boil and found each bite absolutely tonguegasmic. Came for a pre-lunch snack and now back for a pre-dinner snack. Both the lady and gentleman had a smirk and muffled giggle as they saw me again. "You like it?" No, I love it. I'm here for a week and I'll be back every day you're open until I fly out of here. Take my money and give me thy awesome shrimp!

A quick Yelp…read moreand Google check showed great reviews, and even though the photos looked pretty simple, we decided to give it a try. Sometimes that's just how travel works and you cross paths with unexpected gems. The owner and his family couldn't have been nicer. This place has been around for over 30 years, a mix of convenience store and local eatery. The owner, an older Asian gentleman, warmly asked me and my husband where we were from as soon as he saw us. We think maybe because there aren't many Asian in the neighborhood and it instantly felt welcoming and we started to chitchat. His son was helping in the kitchen that day, and the guy taking our order (super friendly, too!) turned out to be his son-in-law, just stopping by on his day off. This place is small but we could tell most of the steady stream of takeout customers were regulars. We ordered about $50 worth of food: * C2 Fried Chicken (10 pcs) - $11.99 * P6 Shrimp Po'boy (12") - $5.99 * P8 Catfish Po'boy (12") - $7.99 * R5 Cajun Gumbo - $8.99 * Two cans of drinks It felt special that on our very first day in New Orleans, we got to try two of the city's most iconic dishes: Gumbo and Po'boys right here in this humble neighborhood spot. The fried chicken was super crispy, the Po'boys were packed with filling, and the gumbo was flavorful without being overly salty. We couldn't finish it all, so the leftovers became our breakfast the next morning. The shop itself is nothing fancy, just two folding tables and a few chairs but the food and the warmth of the people made it one of those memorable stops that really stick with us. We actually came back on our last day in New Orleans and wanted to try the Yak-Ka-Mein Soup which was recommended by the owner but it was closed on Memorial Day:( I guess we will save it for our next visit. If you ever find yourself in the area, I'd highly recommend trying their food. T&T Seafood & Po-Boys 548 Jackson Ave, New Orleans, LA 70130
