This is a pan Asian restaurant that's not quite certain if it's Chinese, Japanese, or Thai or something in between. Coming out of California, it's definitely not Chinese. It's not Japanese, it's not Thai, and it's not Vietnamese. We had some of the "Chinese" dishes. I don't know what region it was supposed to be from, but it wasn't from any that I recognized. My wife is from China, I've eaten Chinese food in New York, LA, San Francisco, Miami,and London, as well as Nashville and smaller environs. We weren't pleased, but everyone has a bad night. It's not often as a yelper that I go to check in at one of our favorite spots, and find that other yelpers have obviously not discovered a place. If you are a Franklin resident or not, you need to check out this adorable little Chinese place that is in the posh Westhaven subdivision west of Franklin proper, out Highway 96. Ching's isn't a big place, I think there's only about 15 tables in the whole place. It's family owned, and as you look around you might wonder why one wall is papered in a feminine oriental tea pattern, and the other is a darker copper accented Chinese letter pattern. Like often happens in marriages, that's because the husband and wife owners couldn't agree, so they picked both. This is NOT a buffet Chinese restaurant, you are seated and order your entree of choice that comes on a larger plate ideal for shaing and your choice of fried or white rice. They have all the usuals you are probably expecting: Cashew Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, Seafood Delight... and whatever you choose, your order if prepared fresh just for you. It's very reasonably priced, the Cashew Chicken that I enjoyed Saturday is like $8.95, hubby's Beef and Broccoli is like $9.95. Beer and wine are offered, and they have good wonton soup for a starter or our favorite, crab rangoons. I know, it's really cream cheese with a touch of crab rolled in a dumpling they fry... unhealthy by any accounts, but delicious so I don't care. It's a neighborhood kind of place, tons of to-go orders stream in and out from Westhaveners enjoying life and grabbing a quick dinner. The servers are nice, young folks for the most part that all speak English, many appear to be many folks from Westhaven and not Asian at all. Ching's isn't an overly remarkable place, except for the fact that Cool Springs in all its splendor really doesn't have a good non-buffet Chinese place that isn't a Japenese hibachi type of P.F. Chang's. I love the smaller, independently owned shops, and this one is just our style. You can use chopsticks, you can use a fork - no judgement. If you visit on a pretty weekend day, Westhaven does have a pond out front of this portion of the strip shopping center where they rent canoes and paddleboats. If you haven't toured Westhaven at all, please do and drive thry admiring the great houses, commons areas and parks. And yes, the developer who created Seaside, Florida of "Truman Show" fame did develop Westhaven... and it's just as cute as you imagine. Word to visitors from areas other than Franklin, pay close attention to speed limits on Highway 96 venturing out of Franklin to here. Franklin Police are serious, and this is a favorite area for ticketing. But other than that, do visit! read more

Ching Asian Bistro is a nice surprise on this side of town. They have a good selection that's different from the standard cheap take-out Chinese shop, with a healthier mix of fresh ingredients too. Yes, they have a more American menu, but it's not entirely orange chicken-like dishes. They have good ma po tofu, which is one of my favorites. The prices are high if you're used to Chinese restaurants in areas with more competition, but even within all of Franklin you'll have a hard time matching this food. If you eat family style (which is the most authentic way to do it!) then you'll probably find your bill total to be reasonable. The service is great and the team works hard. Parking is always easy in the nearby parking lot or on the street right in front of the restaurant. read more

I am glad i tried and it is surprisingly good. They don't offer the whole chinese menu, but the few options that they do have are very good and taste authentic. PROS: Fresh, tasty (authentic and good mix of spices), generous proportions, and great value price! Also pretty good sushi! Nice dining atmosphere. I loved this restaurant, yall! I lived in Hong Kong for two years and this restaurant is a welcomed throwback to those glory years in Hong Kong. The vegetables and produce are all fresh and the cooking is authentic. I look forward to becoming a regular and getting to know the owners a bit better. Other times, you read limited reviews and think "man, random Chinese sounds good". And yet other times, the stars line up in that way and the place sucks. This would be that time. Chicken wings are done. That's it. They are hot. They are cooked thoroughly. And thus ends the compliments. I have been looking for a good Chinese restaurant in the Franklin area for quite some time now. I came across Ching Asian Bistro recently just from driving by the West haven subdivision. This is a very nice location to have a restaurant. Its a new construction building, so everything is very clean and new inside. Its very well decorated and classy. Very cozy and comfortable place to grab a bite to eat. The overall quality of the food was fantastic! I was very impressed. If I was to compare this place to other similar restaurants. I would have to say its on a PF Chang's level, with a hint of Chop Stix in there. Honestly its locally owned by a couple. So its not corporate owned... That is a major bonus in my opinion. The price of the food was very reasonable. For the quality of the experience I was more than willing to spend my money there. The food, service, location, and everything at that was just superb! My husband and I like Ching's Asian Bistro! We eat there at least three times per month. Whether it's for lunch or dinner, we always enjoy the food. I've read a few negative reviews and I guess things happen, but we've never had a bad experience at Ching's. My husband loves the Double Cooked Pork and my favorite is Orange Beef with brown rice. The Five Flavor Shrimp or Chicken, Kung Pao Chicken, Mongolian Chicken or Beef are very good as well. Today, 8/1/2021, we added dessert, green tea and mango ice cream, and both were good. Absolutely horrible customer service. I will never again subject myself to the screaming and name calling that they put me through today. They denied my card 4x and I asked where the nearest ATM was. The hostess thought I meant to go back to her. i never went to the ATM, but merely bought my lunch next door using the same card. I called back to advise that they had a problem with their machine and got screamed at because I had gone somewhere else. The hostess screamed that they had made my meal and that I was a liar for stating that I was going to ATM and I DO MEAN SCREAMED. Ching is consistently excellent food. They use chicken breast meat in their chicken dishes which instantly elevates their quality over most Chinese restaurants out there. All of the 'usual' dishes are quite good. The sweet & sour is always freshly made. The noodle dishes are very good. If you're in the mood for something spicy, try the Mo Pa tofu (sp?) it's delicious. The service is good but there isn't a lot of seating at peak times. Take out is easy too. They're priced higher than the other strip mall places but the food quality is worth it. read more

Franklin is not known for world class Asian Food, but Chings is as close as you will get in Williamson County. The food taste and quality matches PF Changs at a lower price, albiet much more casual and neighborhood. They have some Sushi and I recommend the special rolls. They have some wine and a fair beer selection, and a nice selection of cold and hot sake. Ask Ann about the various sakes when you order and she can advise. The most expensive is not always the best. The Lunch deal is super, there area bout 20 choices for about 6 bucks for a complete meal with egg roll, rice and main course. too much to finish for lunch. My favorite meal is the Lo mein noddles with pork. The care in the sauces and the quality of the noodles and the meat are very good. The prices are a buck higher than the trashy chinese restaurants in the area. Normally I stay away from the usual sweet and sour fried chinese so prevalent, but actually if you generally like these types of food they are worth a try at Chings, much, much better. Everything is made fresh. Nothing is made up and left in the pans. The fried rice is light, not as greasy as most, and is loaded with shrimp, pork, beef, etc. Way more than usual. Nice ambience much beyond the usual strip mall decor. servcie is solid. The owners are very nice, and if you reach out to them they will spend time with you and are fun people, but they will not intrude, so if you go, be sure to say hello if you like to chat up proprietors, which I love.. Compared to all the other asian restaurants in the area they should be a 5 star rating. As a local restaurant competing with other categories I have rated them a 4 because of the food quality and price. I have taken many clients there and without fail, they have said it is the best chinese food in Williamson County. I highly recommend you vist. We had found this place to be pretty good food but their customer service is awful! They need a lesson how to treat customers! We live in the neighborhood for which the diner is in and we have frequented this place a couple of times recently. After tonight, we won't be back, we came in and was not allowed to sit at a half booth/chair table as they were afraid they might need to use that table for a bigger party. Well, everyone left and they never filled the table/booth/chair and they lost a customer. We will not be back, they were very rude. I've gotten take out a hundred times over the last couple of years but I've only tried two things on the menu because I'm weird like that. The honey chicken and the crab wantons. I love them both so I never need to try anything else. They are consistent at making the dish the same way every time. The honey chicken is crispy and delicious. And the crab wantons are how they should be, delightful. The take out is fast like Asian restaurants always are. It's typically packaged and ready to go in 10 to 15 minutes. Sometimes it's longer if you're ordering during peak hours around lunch or dinner. They also offer sushi which I have tried a couple times and enjoyed. Okay so I've tried three things on the menu... The other day I saw them make a sushi roll for someone and deep fry it. They don't say they offer fried sushi on the menu so I'll have to ask them about that next time I order because fried sushi rolls are the best! read more

The team on the floor are unfortunately just kids who haven't apparently been trained. This is apparently their first jobs and they don't have any experience in hospitality. They don't approach the table quickly (or know that they have a new table). They're also pretty contentious, as if they're doing you a favor by taking your order. If the management paid more attention to training the wait staff, this might be a decent place. But I'll stay away from this place. read more
