Don't host events at this place. We had a party there and ordered a party package of food for our guests. Can you believe they didn't refill our food?? That we paid for? Fusion? More like con-fusion. Chinitas is a restaurant on Water Street in Henderson that has "combined the savory flavors of Mexican and Asian cuisine" per their website. It looks like they've also incorporated a sports bar vibe as well as a country night. The parking lot in the back had ample space when I showed up during Friday happy hour. Although I didn't get any entrees or tacos, I did try quite a variety of items. Unfortunately, most of them just weren't that satisfying. Chicken Tinga Tostadas ($5.00 HH): actually one of the better dishes overall, with toppings that all make sense in my mouth. What didn't quite work was how the chicken was not shredded very finely, so it ended up being a chore to finish the process of biting. Crispy Pork Wontons ($6.00 HH): I didn't get it. The wontons were crispy, but the pork was barely noticeable. The sweet and sour sauce leaned heavily toward sweet, and the overall flavor profile just didn't taste like anything I've had in Mexican or any Asian cuisine. Chicken Lettuce Cups ($5.00 HH): another unexpected surprise, in a negative way. I'm not sure what to expect from bang bang sauce, but I didn't want a sauce reminiscent of peanut butter in an overly sweet way. With the fresh toppings and ingredients, it would have been a home run with a better sauce. Elote Ribs ($5.00 HH): another miss. The underlying corn was a little too mushy and wasn't salted at all. For the "ribs" on the bottom layer, the mayo and cotija didn't cover all of the corn up as you would expect in elote, which exposed the underlying issues. The gimmick would have worked with better execution. House Special Cauliflower ($10.00): our lone pick that wasn't on the happy hour menu. Our server recommended this over brussels sprouts, and I can say now that I regret allowing that question. The cauliflower was just too soft and grainy, not a good meat replacement. The sweet and spicy sauce was actually pretty enjoyable, but the dish was already lost by that point. The Sashimi ($8.00 HH) dishes were a mixed bag. They all come with ponzu sauce, a bit of serrano pepper, and some shredded daikon. The yellowtail wasn't bad, but the bluefin was among the more boring and bland bites of raw tuna which I've had. The California ($6.00 HH) and Rainbow Roll ($13.00 HH) were just fine, nothing exceptional. They felt a bit overly wet thanks to however they prepared the rice. You can get comparable if not better quality rolls from most if not all local all-you-can-eat sushi restaurants. I thought I was getting really full by the end, but it was just a reaction to subpar food. Chinitas might be the kind of place where having alcohol is mandatory to distract you from the preparation of the food. Based on the hype, I expected something on par with the halcyon days of Soho Japanese Restaurant, but instead I got what's most likely going to be a first and final visit. read more

I enjoyed my time here. I made a reservation over the phone and the young man I spoke to was very polite and friendly but somehow that reservation got lost. I even asked him about a confirmation over the phone or thru text and he said no need. Well....luckily we were still able to get seated right away on a Saturday afternoon. I started with a delicious margarita. I'm pretty sure it was the ginger berry. It was light and refreshing. I then realized it was still happy hour and switched to their house margarita where you can quickly taste the difference but with how crazy prices are now-a-days, I had to get at least one happy hour drink. We started with the Birria Eggrolls. This was my favorite dish. I would come here just for those. Delicious. I then ordered the surf and turf fried rice. This dish is huge. Get it to share. I didnt love it. My ribeye was super fatty, shrimp lacked flavor, and I like my egg mixed in as well as a runny one on top for an extra bonus. Tuesday night Karaoke!!! I like this place is super clean and the staff is always friendly and with great energy. The menu is pretty interesting, being vegan I had to try each of the options. The last time I went to Chinitas, we really enjoyed to food, so we decided to go back for more. Well, the food was no where close to being as good as it was the last time. The pot stickers look like pre-made, store bought. You get 5 to am order, and they are TINY. Looks like children size! Not ordering this again. The salt and pepper chicken wings were tiny, tasteless (no salt or pepper! ), overcooked, and dry! Not ordering this one again either. The House Special Cauliflower sauce tasted good, but the Cauliflower was overcooked and mushy. Again, not ordering this one. We also had some sushi, which was good. So the theme here is TAPAS, so smaller plates. But, the smaller plates should be at a slightly smaller price, but it's full price for small plates. Japanese Festival weekend and you would think they're going through their soft opening. One server had checked her tables outside (High five) bummer she's not our server. Our server came back after 35min to verify the order. Then we got our apps and the sushi, but no silverware or plates for another 8min. I love that the music is here and the DJ was great but when the servers can't hear us and we're yelling, I mean come on. You're a restaurant not a club. 54min later and our kids nuggets and slides finally came out. Honestly would have been good if someone gave a damn to simply check in on us. I've seen and heard so many good things about Chinitas and was able to try it on Mother's Day. They have a nice patio that overlooks Water street and a rooftop area as well. We dined inside the restaurant close to the patio so we were able to experience the open air while eating. Our server was great. She was very attentive and provided great service. I ordered a margarita flight. My favorites were the spicy mango and strawberry. The original and prickly pear were tasty too. They have a nice selection of craft cocktails that I would love to try on future visits. For food, we ordered the potstickers as an appetizer, the kids meal with chicken strips, and the quesabirria tacos. The potstickers were delicious and a great way to start our meal. My son enjoyed the chicken strips and fries. My quesabirria tacos were good and very filling. The consome dip was perfect for dipping the tacos into. Every Tuna item on the menu is served Spicy! Possibly to mask lower quality. Oh and if you ask for them to be made Not Spicy they will up charge you! This could be a cool concept, and Water Street District desperately needs it, but.... They are trying to do too much and are not good at much. The service started off cold. We brought a candidate for a position to Chinitas as a part of their interview day and had a wonderful experience. The staff were welcoming and accommodating for our group. The space was well lite and a comfortable temperature. We sat in a booth which was roomy. The food comes out when it is ready so you may not get everything all at once. The chips for the guacamole are light and crunchy. The sushi rolls were well made. The taco trio was bursting with flavor. This place is trash! They are rude and apparently don't need business. Their Yelp says open until 9, walked in at 7:55 P.M. and was ignored for a while. The employee finally looked our way and asked how many in our party, when I told him 9, he said they couldn't serve us because their kitchen was closed. Wow... Had dinner here recently to celebrate my cousin's birthday and overall it was a positive experience! We had a reservation so upon arrival we were immediately seated. Our waitress was sweet and very attentive. The restaurant has a modern vibe to it, ample seating indoors and out. And they also had a DJ section set up to provide for some live entertainment. A few of us ordered the salt and pepper wings, I had mine tossed in Buffalo sauce while others opted for the Chinese bbq sauce. I tried both and they were fantastic. The chicken was seasoned and battered appropriately, the wings were perfectly cooked (not burnt or dry) and the portion size was perfect to share or not. My cousin (birthday girl) ordered the cauliflower tacos and shrimp tempura crunch roll of which she enjoyed. Her son in law got a flatbread and her husband also got a roll and they too were happy (sorry no pics). I however opted for the Quesabirria tacos and I was very disappointed. It was super greasy and lacked flavor, the sauce served for dipping tasted like beef fat plus tomato paste and also was in desperate need of salt. A real bummer!!! We were seated right away in a cute booth with the sushi bar on one side and more tables to the right. Television screens plentiful with different sports showing. Food server promptly greeted us and let us know it was ladies night beginning at 6 pm. We decided to wait the few minutes for our drinks. My friend recommended the Elole Ribs (Mexican street corn) and the beet tostada. The order came out quickly. Both were delicious. The spice level was nice. The beet tostada was my favorite. Loved the crunchiness of the taco shell and the freshness of the beet mix. For drinks I tried the mule and my friend had a basil margarita. Mine was great and she liked hers too.
