Chip City has so many locations and all my coworkers / daughter rave about the cookies! I decided to go Christmas Eve expecting that the lines would be long but they weren't at all which was great! I think they used to do daily flavors that would change but the girl at the counter made me aware that it's now weekly! Follow them on Instagram so you know which flavors are available! I got 6 cookies in total - two brookies, two fa la la funfetti & two chai snowball. The chai snowball was surprisingly my favorite! I'm not a chai person but the coconut flakes / marshmallow on top sealed the deal for me. The other cookies were good but that one stood out to me the most! They are best warm! In only 4 years, they jacked up the price per cookie by nearly 60%. However, they forgot one important fact, which is that Levain Bakery exists, is in Queens, and is the same price as they are. And unfortunately, they cannot compete with perfection. They would have been better off trying to compete on value than on quality. I can't say they are bad, because they aren't. Baking your own cookies is rare in this day and age. But I don't feel the value proposition is there compared to when they opened. At the current price ($6 per cookie, after tax) it feels like you are overspending unless you want something pretty to post on Instagram. read more

Some REALLY amazing cookies here! Only a small variety available, which actually made deciding very easy! They are $4 each or 6 for $20. I didn't want to keep 6 of these delicious looking cookies in the house because realistically I'd eat them all in one sitting so I opted for 2, chocolate chip and cookies n cream. They were both SO good ! I let my little one try both and he was in heaven! I've tried some of the other "big cookie" places and this one really stands out. Perfectly large cookies with locations that dot all across NYC, but with roots in Astoria. They came onto the scene in a flurry back in 2017, as a contender against the legendary Levain's. I have a strong affinity for Levain's, they're just my preference, but am still a Chip fan and have visited a few locations, including the now RIP Gansevoort Market. Expect cookies the size of your palm, slightly crunchy on the outside, ooey gooey soft and chewy on the inside. 6 cookies for $20 is a sweet deal for those that crave variety! I like to stick to classic flavors, but have found their specialty flavors also delightful, changing on a daily rotation. Consistency has been an issue at times, with some hefty cookies still underdone. I also enjoy ones with chocolate and fruit additions more, since they help to undercut the cookie's inherent sweetness. Anything with white chocolate or marshmallow verge on too sweet. Think Levain but more humble. The cookies are big, soft (crispy cookie lovers look elsewhere), and a little cake/sconelike. The price is up to $4.50 each. Flavors rotate daily, you can check ahead of time on their website or instagram. The instagram and online ordering says that the plant-based vegan chocolate chip cookie is available daily, the website doesn't list it on the weekly menu. The regular chocolate chip is also served every day, though if you hit them at the wrong time they may be temporarily out of one or two flavors. For me the chocolate chip is the best - a brown sugar cookie with dark chocolate chips. I think the more unusual flavors are usually sweeter. I've enjoyed chocolate peanut butter, s'mores, red velvet, cookies and cream, and pumpkin. I love a seasonal or special holiday flavor promotion but if I could only have one cooke here it's chocolate chip all the way. Formerly known as Chip NYC, there used to be a time when there'd be a line around the block for this place on weekends. That seems to have relaxed a little bit since they expanded citywide but it's still a popular spot. The cookies do okay on the counter for a day or two but are obviously best fresh. Individual cookies are served in pastry bags, three are more are served in a handle-less box. If you want to be super decedent grab some ice cream across the street at Ample Hills to go with your warm cookies. read more

Felt like getting Levain but in Astoria. Also not as big and cooked through ,ie it's got that just undercooked gooey warm inside. But at $4.50 per cookie, plus an unadvertised 3% service charge for using your credit card (or maybe put the more correct way not advertising a 3% discount for paying with cash) I'll probably still end up going to Levain when I want a jumbo cookie, even at about 10% more per cookie in cost (and I think 20% bigger in size). For a gift, I like the design of their boxes more versus chip city, which reminds me of the cartoon City Island. In the end though, this is a four star review so there's really nothing bad here. read more

Very tiny but cute little store. You can easily miss it if you are walking too fast. Since it's so small, it can quickly fill up with people and lines will form outside. Luckily, the staff are quick, and lines move smoothly. There are a couple of bar chairs in front of the store but beware as it is directly underneath an AC unit. We sat down and promptly got rained on by the water from the AC unit. As you walk by the shop, you smell the delicious cookies being baked. How could you not buy a cookie? The cookies are quite large as it should be for almost $4 a cookie. At first glance, they remind me of biscuit with their size and shape. Since the cookies are large and dense, the inside is gooier than a normal cookie. For me, I found the cookies to be quite delicious but a tad too sweet. It's the type of cookie you must eat with a tall glass of milk or a piping hot cut of coffee. I love that you can see the cookies as they come out of the oven. Apparently, they only sell four flavors each day and they rotate the combinations. When I went, they had chocolate chip, Funfettie, S'Mores, and peanut butter chocolate cookies. Went to Chip city to try the Rugrats Angelica Sweet and Sassy cookie and hot damn this was good! Only thing that would have made it better was eating it with some Ample Hills but maybe next time. Let me preface this that I was super excited to try these cookies. We waited in the long line on a Saturday afternoon. My husband and I tried 3 of the 4 cookie types that were available when we went: Chocolate chip walnut - underbaked and barely any walnuts. Basically eating warm, mushy cookie dough. Nutella Sea Salt - underbaked and not very Nutella-y White chocolate oatmeal cranberry - very disappointing considering I love oatmeal cookies. The dried cranberries were overpowering. The cookies fell apart when we tried to pick them up especially if the center was touched at all. These were all just underbaked cookies and in my opinion, thats why everyone is going nuts over them. Everyone loves cookie dough... except when you pay for it to be baked already. They really need to just fully bake their cookies. On a cold day, it feels lovely in here with warm cookies everywhere. This is a small shop but if it was bigger I would have stayed and enjoyed the warmth more. Sampled several varieties including an Oreo, Chocolate Chip Walnut, Chocolate Peanut Butter, and Confetti. Of these, the Chocolate Chip Walnut was my favorite. The was just a hint of walnut in the cookie which was just how I like cookies with nuts. The Chocolate Peanut Butter was a good follow up. A common thought with both cookies was it could have been better with an increase in the number of chocolate or peanut butter chips. A companion devoured most of the Oreo. The Confetti was considered ordinary relative to the others and was mostly left behind. This is definitely a top cookie contender in NYC for sure. read more

In love with these cookies! While visiting my sister this go around I think I stopped by CHIP 2-3 times both locations. My favorite out of all the ones I've tried has to be the white chocolate macadamia nut, chocolate chip walnut, cookies and cream, as well as the Nutella sea salt. Much like the infamous Levains theyre good cookies just smaller and are more gooey in the center and not as crunchy on the outside. Each cookie runs you about $3.75 and if you buy 5 you get the 6th one of your choice free. Some other flavors worth trying are fungetti, triple chocolate, and reg chocolate chip The only thing I wish they had was all the flavors but unfortunately they only have 4 main flavors everyday that they switch out and then there's one other specialty flavor. This particular location is a bit from the city, but it doesn't get as crowded so you don't have to wait for the cookies to get made because it doesn't run out as quick. Once you enter and sink your teeth in the buttery sweet goodness you will forget about the short wait and maybe even your troubles. Served warm, thick and gooey you will find it hard to try not to devour them on site. With several mouthwatering options it's difficult to choose and you will definitely feel the need to take advantage of their buy 5 get 1 free @ $17.50 option, in an attempt to try as many as possible. However, with strides @ a valued effort to defeat obesity I suggest bringing 2 of your besties and each picking 2 flavors, as I did. It may take you longer to get thru the regular weekly menu and seasonal options but as least your scale won't be so disrespectful the next time you step on it. They are good fresh and just as good a couple days later. I tried the white chocolate cranberry and the cookies n cream. With both being mind blowing, on my return visit I may pick the cookies n cream again and then try a new flavor. Despite there being no wait, there were only (gasp) TWO Cookies-n-Cream CHIPS left. We opted to go halfsies on the B5G1 (half-dozen) special, and waited for their other offerings (Oatmeal Raisin, and Apple Pie filling), which were still baking. No more than 5 mins later, a rush of folks came in, and pre-ordered the cookies still baking. Paul jotted down the orders, and called out to the adoring CHIP fans when he was down to the last few. The Chip cookies reminded me of large muffin tops in cookie form... crispy on the outside, and super moist on the inside. Getting these home was an act of restraint and patience, but even on the 40 min drive, they were still warm (and actually molded to the side of the box). In short: IT'S SO WORTH THE DIABETES. OMG, just walking through the doorway and you're getting a strong whiff of some buttery tasty goodness being baked here. This is a super popular bakery minutes from the Astoria 30th Ave. Station. The folks are regulars and they come in droves I hear. My first visit on a brisk Tuesday night and my rookie mistake, walking in half an hour before closing! In my mind I was still expecting cookies. Not so said the very friendly, cool and informatively cute bakery employee, Paul. He thoroughly explained the best times of the day to stop in, what flavors sell out fast, and what flavors to expect on a daily basis. My Yelp bestie Jo, bought the last two Oreo cookies (she was two steps ahead while I was taking pics for my Yelp review, outside). Paul told us to expect less inventory in the evening and especially even less in the last hour before closing as they do not bake much more from that point on. For this evening, Paul mentioned we could buy a few more cookies if we were willing to wait about ten minutes for the last batch of the two flavors left, which explains the delectable aroma that was baking. Again, good timing, we were already in the queue so of course we bought more. Loving the oatmeal apple cookie, when you bite into it, there's apple gooey-ness, like Apple pie filling. Oreo, who doesn't love?! I'm a fan. (Jo was kind to swap one flavor with me so we each got to try the last three flavors of the evening). I was craving some warm cookies and this hit the spot. Chip has a variety of cookies but only 4 kinds of cookies are sold at a time. I was able to try their Funfetti, Vegan Chocolate Chip, Sweet Potato S'mores, and Chocolate Chip Walnut cookies. The cookies are $4 each of buy 5 get 1 free (6 for $20). The cookies are crispy with a slight crunch on the outside and soft on the insides. I prefer my cookies warm and soft all around though. The sweet potato s'mores reminds me of candied yams at Thanksgiving. The funfetti cookie could use some more sugar. The chocolate chip cookie has semi sweet chocolate chips. The vegan cookie does not come with walnuts and is a bit drier but still good. The cookies are big and heavy, about three inches in diameter and half an inch high. They're only good for two reasons: 1. If you're craving a warm cookie that tastes as though it just came out of the oven, go to Chip. They keep their cookies on a hot plate, so they will always be melty and gooey whenever you get it. Otherwise, after it cools down or is stored in the fridge, they become pretty basic cookies that just happen to be raw inside. Still delicious but nothing to wait on line for. 2. Their one of a kind cookie creations are worth the visit. Check their Instagram first or call them to see what cookies they have for the day in order to not waste the trip. And don't be fooled by all the awesome pictures on yelp of the myriad cookie options. They only sell 4 cookies per day, so it's likely only one will be the unique photo-worthy one. With this said, I enjoyed my visit to Chip and felt lucky to have liked the 4 choices for the day since I had no clue it would be limited before I went. I took advantage of their deal; I bought 5 cookies and got 1 for free. I tried all the cookies: chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia nut, chocolate peanut butter, and baklava. They were all super raw in the middle and extra yummy because of this. The baklava was awesome with raw cookie dough filled with nuts, then wrapped in phyllo dough and soaked in sugary syrup. Besides the limited options (where are the vegan cookies?) and the somewhat basic cookie recipe, Chip was disappointing too because of their lack of seating. It's really just a counter for ordering with about five bar stools outside. I also disliked the baking powder/soda flavor in the chocolate chip cookies specifically, although I could taste it faintly in the other ones too. At first, I questioned the bitter taste and thought maybe it could be too much baking powder since I know the flavor from my own baking blunders. But after I actually got a full powder ball stick in one of my teeth, I knew it most likely had to be baking powder. read more
