DO NOT USE. We've moved across the country many times and Chipman does the worst job. Chipman's pleasant customer service is a front for the classic we'll-take-your-money-and-disappear-when-something-goes-wrong. We've moved across the country three times now so we understand things get dented, but they had by far the most issues. Four fine china plates broken. Ripped upholstery on an antique chair. Much more. And the worst: I specifically asked them to assemble a bed at destination that was disassembled at point of origin. (Was included in the quote.) I gave them a bag of all hardware, i.e., nuts and bolts, and we arrived to discover that the movers had done the bare minimum to hold the bed together, not even using all the proper bolts. A bag of unused screws, nuts and bolts sat on the windowsill. A month later, the bed obviously started shaking and wiggling every time we moved in bed, or got in or out of the bed. Basically, they RIPPED US OFF and charged us for a bed assembly which they did not do. Tried filing a claim, only to have our nice rep transfer us to some poor guy in claims who barely speaks English. Total runaround and denial. read more

UPDATED TO ADD After posting this review, the owner contacted me privately asking for my personal contact information so that he could try to resolve the issue. I responded immediately, and three days later he has still not contacted me. Additionally, Chapman alerted us today that the truck is further delayed, so it will now be at least 19 days until we receive our belongings. On top of that, Chipman said that it is our responsibility to complete appropriate complaint paperwork to receive meager compensation for their unacceptable service. There are so many more reliable and trustworthy options than Chipman, so don't waste your time with Chipman. My family received a quote from Chipman for our move from Los Angeles to Colorado and were told that our items would arrive in 5 days. Here we are in Colorado, and we are now being told that it will be up to 14 days until the moving truck arrives. We contacted Chipman to give them an opportunity to fix their mistake, and we were simply told by Becky with customer service that she can't do anything about it at this time. I got Shaina's cell phone from her coworker when I initially was interested in quotes. She was always so responsive, whether it be email or phone. She made sure to give me options and clear instructions of the prices (or hidden prices if any) so you won't get surprised. When dispatch came to pick up/drop off my things, she called me immediately a few hours later to check in to make sure everything ran smoothly. I had to move across the country plus store my stuff for a month and Shaina updated me as soon as shipment was stored in warehouse so I don't get worried. And when I do, she is so good in reassuring me. The only downside was many of my plastic storage container was broken when I came. The things were not damaged. Moving Offices - the Right Way! If you are moving your office, the first question to ask a prospective mover is this: "Do you use gondolas?" Of course, you would ask that question in Venice, Italy, but most people would not think to ask it in Los Angeles unless they have seen it done. Chipman has moved my office furniture three times in the past 10 years. The first two moves were between floors of an office building and the last was a small truckload of furniture, books, and files to a new office across town. Trying to be thorough, we contacted several movers who claim to do office and commercial moving; not one of them uses gondolas. What is a gondola? It is an industrial version of the old library cart (here, I am hoping that the reader has actually visited a library) used by librarians to re-shelve books. Think of it as a bookshelf on wheels. Now think of it as being somewhat larger, made of plywood and able to hold a ten-drawer file cabinet full of files, or 120 shelf-feet of books. Now imagine wrapping the beast in plastic wrap so that everything stays in place when moved. It is very fast and very efficient, not the least of which because it obviates boxing nearly everything. Think about that: Ten drawers of from a 36-inch wide legal-size file cabinet; 30 shelf-feet of files, 30 file cartons that you purchase, fold, load, move, unload, unfold and discard. It costs perhaps $90 just for the boxes for those files. Now imagine them loaded onto a gondola in a few minutes. Whoa! Chipman has been around for quite a while. I actually had the same crew for my first two moves, nearly 10 years apart, and a new crew this time. I say "new" but Juan, 'Cisco and Javier work together regularly and they are a great team: efficient, courteous and focused on getting the job done. I like to think it helped that we had diagrams of what furniture went exactly where but they seemed able to piece everything together nicely. And unpiecing: my desk is quite large and not shaped for easy moving. They spent a bit of time deciding the best way to handle it. I am quite sure that there was no damage to anything in any of the moves. We had a second stop for some files and books, so it was a long day. At the end, there was a small overtime addition, but the estimator (shout-out to Scott Whittet) did an excellent job, so the extra charge was under 10% and seemed very reasonable. Everybody we have dealt with at Chipman was organized, timely and knows what they are doing. I am sure that they do a fine job with residential moves, too, but they really know office moving. read more

Used Chipman to move the contents of my 3,500 sf office and it went flawlessly. The crew arrived with 4 trucks and a dozen guys and they got busy right away. Dozens of computers/printers/chairs/files cabinets, etc were all handled professionally and with care. I did buy the extra insurance for peace of mind but it was not needed. I rarely write reviews, and this matter is long behind me. But, every now and again it crosses my mind, and I get annoyed. It irritates me that I received no response from the certified letter of complaint I mailed to executive officers. I didn't expect to hear back from any of the title officers, but I did expect to hear back from someone higher than the claims adjuster to address my letter. The lack of acknowledgement is what upsets me. So, here it is. In the grand scheme of things it won't matter at all, as this is a big company, so even 100 complaints won't make a statistical difference. Worst experience EVER. Packers packed a large knife in a box with my daughters toys! They marked the boxes whatever they wanted, as we opened the boxes,nothing inside was what the box said...then they sent the truck with two other loads when promised my home was the only load on the truck ... they packed so poorly the broke many items one my Brown Jordan Teak furniture.... maddening! I moved out of state without all my things as they ran out of room... they put as much as possible in my car, but I had to leave so many things in my neighbors garage... then I had to make another trip to pick up my belongings, as they offered nothing to resolve problem. When they arrived to my new home at 10:30 am they sent men over 60 years old to unload, one was complaining he wasn't supposed to lift heavy items and the other one was talking on his cell phone in the truck avoiding work. They lost parts to my daughters bunk bed and asked my nephew to put the BBQ together for them and help them with the bunk bed and help them unload! Finally at one am I told them they must leave and come back in the morning .. they said no....we were all exhausted...my mother is 80 and was helping as well...they couldn't even find the boxes with our linens for our beds... I have had to unpack every box and still haven't found many items. I have called, written, filed claims three months later still no return calls no resolution ! Unprofessional to say the least. Very happy our business chose Chipman Relocations as the moving company for our recent office relocation. Craig came out to the job site to perform an onsite estimate, and the crew showed up on time the day of the move and knocked out the work in the estimated 8-10 hour time window given. Very professional and efficient crew. Took 3 trucks, about 16 movers and about 8 truckloads total to get the job done. Chipman provided moving boxes and bubble bags for CPU stuff, for materials actually used. We returned unused items. Veronica, the move coordinator, did a great job communicating on billing and crew details. Business was up and running the next day at 8am, always the goal! I had a great experience from the beginning. My consultant was responsive to emails. The surveyor arrived on time and was polite and friendly (even played with my dog). The movers arrived at the designated time and were friendly and efficient. They were careful with my things and worked quietly. Once they were done, they sent me the paperwork and everything went smoothly. For the arrival, the same! My things were in the same state as I left them. The only thing I wish was different was the time window for delivery. It was between 6 and 28 days. So I couldn't really plan as I would have wanted to. Worst move possible! We recently relocated with Chipman Relocations from California to Texas. The move took them ten days, the last day possible of our delivery estimate when they initially said it should just take a couple of days. All people involved on their side were very slow to respond when they did respond at all. We worked with Dale, Darma, and Jesus. Finally when we did receive our items, they damaged our just renovated home as well as many of our items. They put a ten inch scratch in our new hard wood floors, damaged moulding and walls, and broke many items which were moved with them. But worst of all they half assembled our children's cribs. We did not find out they had done this until we put our one year old into the crib and he fell through! We were just lucky our son was not seriously injured. I would strongly advise making another choice when choosing a moving company. read more

They'll get you with this awesome insurance package that comes for free. Then they won't tell you that if you pack your own stuff, none of it is covered. Then they'll swear up and down that you shouldn't waste their time with checking off the inventory going in or coming out because it will make everything late but won't tell you that doing so leaves you no recourse if they lose anything (they lost three of our boxes and counting). Finally they'll say "oops, we broke your bike" and then when you submit a claim for that, they'll say that since you can't prove it wasn't broken before you moved, they're going to reject that, too. They'll talk a great game. Call you all the time. Be there for everything. Answer all your questions. Then the minute something goes wrong, it's your fault and they're gone like a fart in the wind. Family members told me that moving is the equivalent of a break-in and I told them no, this time it's different, these people are nice... ...but when the pedal hits the medal, it's your stuff, it's their rules, and if your crap gets thrashed or lost, there is *nothing* you can do. read more

Never again will I settle for a discount moving company. I've been around this great land of ours, with my first "professional" move being when I moved back to Chicago from Boston. United Van Lines did that one, so after a string of bad experiences (Chicago to Los Angeles, Los Angeles to Irvine, and one internal Irvine move), I decided to go with a United Van Lines agent to move me from our 2nd Irvine place to our 3rd and current Irvine place. The guys were fast and efficient, yet took their time to do a great job. Everything was properly wrapped, secured, and protected, and this is the first move since that Boston to Chicago move, where nothing was lost or broken. I didn't even have to buy lunch for the guys, even though I asked, multiple times if I could get them anything, they politely refused and said they would pick something up when they were finished. (I once had movers who actually asked if I would go get them something. THAT takes some nuts) From start to finish, the whole process was great. From Rudy Zontini's quick estimate, to the free home delivery of moving boxes and packing supplies, to the actual move, this was a first class effort. With all the horror stories I've heard and read about the terrible experiences people have had with moving companies (including a friend who is now going through an utter nightmare), I was understandably nervous about the whole thing, especially since I was moving all the way across the country from California to Florida. From start to finish, Chipman was a blessing. Chris was spot-on with evaluating and estimating and counseling, and Becky was awesome with coordinating and supervising; she even handled my stress meltdown beautifully, lol. In spite of fires on one end and a hurricane on the other, everything arrived safely, myself and my pup included (not in the moving truck of course, in a rented RV -- but that's another story...). There was not a single thing broken or missing (okay, one bottle of soy sauce was cracked, but I was the one who packed it). The guys on the packing and loading end were efficient, friendly, and very respectful of all my antiques and china and crystal and so on; the guys who unloaded on this end were unfailingly cheerful in spite of the massive amount of work involved, and again, they too handled everything with care and precision, respecting my home and my belongings. I would highly recommend Chipman Relocations! My move started as an out of state move. I had several estimates done after much research. I read tons of horror stories about out of state moving companies that described people having missing items, late delivery ect. Moving out of state quickly became quite scary. I was moving from Orange County CA to Austin TX. I had decided to store my belongings for several months before having United Van Lines and Chipman move my belongings to TX. In the interim I faced several problems, Not with Chipman but with my living situation. This caused me to change my delivery destination of my belongings Several times. Each time I was stressed as how overwhelming moving out of state already is, then worrying about the cost of constantly changing the origin and original contract with Chipman. Every time my delivery destination changed Darma the person I worked closely with at Chipman reassured me they would accommodate me at a low fair and reasonable cost. Which they did! Dama always answered my emails promptly and would call me frequently. She was truly amazing and made me feel so much better when I was experiencing overwhelming distress about my move. Really long story short...I stored my belongings with Chipman for about a year at a crazy low cost of $80 a month. This was for 3000 lbs which would set you back at least $400 a month at any other storage facility. For a year I worked Darma. Then Sally while my belongings were being stored. Sally would call or email me if I missed a payment assuring me my belongings weren't going anywhere as most places would just auction belongings after missing a payment. Well..the final outcome! All my possessions were delivered, in tact, nothing missing or broken. The delivery went seamlessly!! Forgot to add..Chipman let me know a partial refund will be given since the delivery took less time than quoted thanks to Martin and Roberto! Thanks guys for doing a fantastic job!! BEWARE!!! September 2018, our household was moved cross-country by Chipman Relocations. My wardrobe box was broken into and clothing and other things were stolen. The box was re-taped so it went undetected until later and after delivery. Numerous attempts to notify of the theft went unheeded, but a check for their estimate of coverage was sent to us, which was considerably less than our claim. Chipman, nor their parent company - UNIGROUP - whom we apprised of the theft, never addressed the problem. I'm sure there are many of their customers out there who have suffered the same experience, as well as THE SAME INDIFFERENCE and avoidance of their theft issue. THIS WARRANTS A CLASS ACTION SUIT! We can understand Chipman's reimbursement policy, but their inability to acknowledge the theft by their carrier is UNBELIEVABLE!!!
