Moved for the third time with Chipman and this was the best move so far. They do moving estimates via FaceTime so you don't have to schedule a time for someone to come over your house. I had them pack me (as usual) and also drop off some items at the Home Consignment Center the day of the move. They did a great job. They removed the legs on all of the furniture and disassembled the bed and put everything back together and placed it where I wanted it. They also have special packing crates for big screen TVs. read more

Booked a move through Mayflower from Chicago to LA and Chipman was the local contractor on the receiving end. Andres and his crew did a fantastic job moving our belongings into our new place! Protected the house well, were careful but efficient with all our stuff and even helped me double-check to make sure everything was accounted for before leaving. And did it all with a warm, friendly demeanor! 2 years ago I moved from Yorba Linda, CA to Olympia Washington. We choose Chipman Relocations because of the brans they were associated with. That was a mistake. Chipman Relocations sales guy lied to me and ruined my $5,000 mattress by not boxing or bagging it! And your driver was late and took 10 HOURS! To load up a small 2-bedroom apartment that everything was already boxed up! When they finally arrived to my new hours in Washington they were late again and there was only the driver and one helper, so I had to help them unload again since it would have be midnight by the time they would have been done. Here is something else they don't tell you. The truck driver is a contractor they hire, so they are NOT Mayflower/United employees, THEN the truck driver hires his own people to help him do the job! Our driver hired three of his buddies who spent more time taking smoke breaks then actually loading the truck. To top it off, they ended up leaving some of my stuff in another state with another driver who delivered it days later! Trust me when I say this. DO NOT GO WITH THEM! I trusted them because of the Mayflower Brand but when it came down to it, it wasn't really Mayflower/United just contracted workers and the guys who get your stuff look nothing like the brochure they give you. No uniform! Trust me and just don't even consider them. read more

We faced landlord deadlines, building access time constraints, last-minute changes and one very ill-timed locked door, but Randy and his team didn't blink an eye. They offered solutions on the fly, never complained or huffed at the sudden obstacles, and got the job done. Their crate-and-dolly-centered stratgey makes packing, moving and unpacking very easy, and eliminates the need to buy hundreds of cardboard boxes, most of which either won't be used or just become trash. Watch out for this company, an agent of United Moving. Things seemed OK when I had their estimator, Lewis Cramer, out to my house for almost 2 hours to do an inventory and prepare a quote. A couple days after I got the quote, he asked to revise it upward by about $150 because he'd forgotten to include a couple of types of boxes. I was a little annoyed but accepted the new price. The actual movers were careful and did a good job. But on the day of the move, Mr. Cramer called me several times and left angry-sounding voicemails demanding that I pay an extra $1000 because he had vastly underestimated the weight of the job! This was bad enough, but especially insulting after he told me countless times during the house visit that the quotes were binding, by law, and that I would not pay one penny more than the estimated amount. My husband returned his calls (the angry tone of Cramer's voicemail was all I needed to hear to know I did not want to deal with him). Cramer tried to get the extra $1000 from him by saying that if we didn't pay it, it would come out of the mover's salaries. If that's really the company policy, it's a horrible one. The error was 100% Cramer's, not the workers who packed and moved our furniture. Eventually, after being reminded about his "binding estimate", Cramer backed down and said we didn't actually owe the $1000, and that it was his mistake. But then we got an invoice a month later for the extra amount, and had to go through the whole discussion again. Totally unprofessional company that confirmed most of my fears about how moving companies treat their customers. Won't use again. read more

Contacted this company on June 1st for a June 19th move date. Arrangements were made for an in-house estimate to be completed on June 10th since the estimate had to be done on a weekday I took the day off of work and made myself available. I was contacted the night before and notified that they do not do moves on Sundays. I offered to move on the prior Saturday and then was told that there needed to be 10 days notice. This company has had over 10 days of notice, from day one I have not changed my move date and always mentioned it when calling. I called their dispatcher "Thor " and was told that he did his job. I'm sorry I do not know how you did your job when you referred me to an agent when you knew my move date and knew they did not move on Sundays. No regard was made for me missing a day of work. No apology for cancelling the night before a scheduled appointment. Chose a different moving company! I know I'm glad they will not be getting my money. read more

I haven't moved my house for over 19 years (we had a ton of stuff to move) and was concerned this would be an expensive and difficult process. I had three moving companies give me quotes and we felt most comfortable with Rudy and were very happy with the quote. Once we decided to have Chipman manage our move Marguerite took over and made sure we understood the quote and scheduled the move. They were especially helpful when my move date changed at the last minute and they were able to accommodate my needs. When moving day came, the crew that handled the move were great. They took great care of the house and my contents and got everything on the truck within 5 hours. We now have our stuff in storage with Chipman while we wait for our next house to become available. I look forward to getting my stuff into the new house next month and will update my review then. read more

Chipman broke our water shut-off valve on the washing machine, and then denied the claim! They do not dispute that they disconnected everything, and moved the washer. They say that we went in separately and broke it. Unreal. So it was working when they arrived, broken when they left. We did not, of course, wash clothes while they were there. Defies logic. Good thing we charged the move to Amex, so we can dispute. read more

Our moving estimate looked good but when the movers arrived to pack up our furniture, apparently Chipman's "professional" moving specialist had failed to note that artwork, glass-topped tables, and marble items all had to be specially crated! We had to be out of our home; so, we paid the additional cost. Our final cost (paid in full, as required by Chipman, before anything was delivered) was about twice the original estimate. Our furnishings were stored by Chipman and we were told to give two weeks notice when we wanted the furniture delivered. We gave three weeks notice but that wasn't enough for Chipman. We had to wait an extra week before our furniture was delivered because their truck "broke down." When our furniture arrived, eleven crates were missing. Another week passed before Chipman located our missing crates in their storage facility. Again, delivery was delayed due to another truck "break down." Although most of our items finally arrived safely, two pieces of furniture were significantly damaged. We do not recommend Chipman for an out-of-state move. read more

I chose to go with Chipman due to their "Not to exceed" clause. This is not the case! Beware!!!! I was charged an overage the next month on my credit card, without my knowledge. If the hours are over the expected, do not sign the receipt the movers give you when they are completed and ready to leave your house. You are signing for them to bill you the extra. We had a leak in our home and as a result we had to pack up our belongings to make room for the repairs. I thought that I could handle the task on my own, but when it became overwhelming I reached out to Chipman, and they were able to arrange to have two packers at my home within 48 hours. The packers arrived on time, they were polite and efficient, and they were able to accomplish in 4 hours what it would have taken me most likely at least a day to do. Their customer service through attention to detail and telephone follow up before and after the packers arrived was also excellent. Moving can be a stressful experience, but I am happy with the level of service from Tom who gave the quotes and Darma who coordinated the move and was my contact person. As my particular situation turned out, they ended up loading my belongings onto a smaller truck and packed them into crates at the warehouse for the trip to Indiana where a different company unpacked and delivered at my destination, also in a smaller truck...at no additional cost. This worked out well for me. I have used United Van Lines five different moves because it has always been a good experience. read more

If you are considering a move with Chipman Relocations, Mayflower, or United, beware. They are 3 heads on the same beast. When I booked our move to the Colorado area, I had spoken with Scott, a Mayflower sales person who assured me that they were among the best in the business. When I asked how long it would be before we could expect our belongings to arrive in Colorado, Scott made me believe that we needn't be concerned about the shipment being late but rather that it might arrive before we did. Typically 5 days he said. So I booked the move for the 5th of January. We packed up all of our belongings, including our young toddler's crib and most all of his toys, books, and clothes, with the expectation that our items would arrive as promised. Cut to today. January 15th, our belongings were still sitting at a loading dock in Los Angeles as of this morning. Becky with customer service has been assuring me repeatedly that they have until the 19th to get our stuff here and it still wont be considered late, therefore they owe us nothing. I have asked to speak with her manager, Mary, who conveniently misses all of my calls. Nobody has taken any responsibility for this situation and to top it off, Becky called me tonight to inform me that our items now aren't expected to arrive until the 24th or 25th and offered a comically inadequate compensation for each day after the 19th. The bottom line is that the company's service does not match the expectations set by their sales team, and by the time you find out the truth its too late to audible. Our toddler has been asking to go home. He wants his toys, he wants his books, and he wants to sleep in his crib. My wife and I are sleeping on the floor eating off of paper plates and buying basics that we already own but have been sitting in Los Angeles at a loading dock for 10 days. I wish I had gone with any other company or just rented a U-haul. I could have made 4 trips between there and here by now. Don't get suckered in. Best of luck with YOUR move, Dave read more

My wife and I recently moved from Brea, CA to Tennessee and used this company only to regret it in the end. We received our things 5 days after our quoted time. The delay had nothing to do with weather which would be understandable, but with the company scheduling pickups (in CA) until 2 days before our delivery deadline. The communication from the coordinator was not timely and when she did reach out it was to say the "driver" was still loading and would be late. Implicating that he was the one adding loads and not the company scheduling them, which is a total bs. Then we received things damaged after being persuaded to not add insurance. We were told a check would be issued for the late delivery to help cover costs of not having our stuff on time but 3 weeks later when it still hadn't arrived I called to find out a "mistake" had been made and it was never issued. This company seems completely disorganized and has no regard for their customers only their bottom line, the customer service and communication was scarce and sorry. The level of incompetence and inability to properly execute the one thing they are in business to do is why I would strongly suggest that you look elsewhere if you are looking to move. Other companies may be a little more expensive but to me it is worth it to ensure you get your belongings without issue. read more

My 'relationship' with Chipman lasted 2 years. The 3-man crew who packed up our things did a fantastic job of handling everything like it was a treasure. They were very professional, polite, and worked very hard. After that our belongings went into storage for 2 years, and we moved from California to a rented, furnished house in Florida. After finally finding the right home to buy in Florida, we arranged to have our things taken out of storage and shipped to us. We were concerned at what affect two years of storage might have, but we were pleased to see that everything looked just like we left it, The 3-man crew who delivered and unloaded our furniture were also very professional, polite, and hard working. They even accommodated several special requests, and seemed happy to do so. Throughout the whole 2-year experience, Darma, our coordinator, was always there to answer questions and treated me like I was the only person she had to deal with. She was on top of the situation from day-one, and even called while delivery was in progress to make sure everything was going well. I would certainly recommend Chipman for both moving and long-term storage. EDIT: One more thing I'd like to add - shortly after everything was delivered and the agreed-upon price was paid, I received an email saying that the total amount was being adjusted. Two weeks later I received a refund check for $66 !!! Imagine that, a company giving an un-requested refund to a customer who was already satisfied with the price paid. That would earn them a 6-Star yelp rating if I could give it! read more

Chipman Relocation handled our move from LA to Atlanta exceptionally well. From the very beginning when we got our quote the price was unbeatable and the virtual tour for the quote was seamless. On moving day we had reserved several parking spaces for the moving truck to park in from the city. Unfortunately, our neighbors ignored the signs and we had to get the city involved. Our neighbors and old landlord all got very aggressive towards my wife and I and our movers, for something that wasn't any of our faults, but our moving coordinator made sure that everything still went okay even despite this hiccup. When we got to Atlanta we found all our items had been packed so expertly and professionally that NOT A SINGLE ITEM was broken. We did have one suitcase filled with Christmas gifts, however, that went missing, but 3 days later our driver called me to tell me that he had found it and he promptly shipped it to us immediately.
