I cannot stress this enough: do not trust Mayflower / Chipman with your belongings. I hired them with the expectation that my items--especially rare, irreplaceable artwork--would be handled with care and professionalism. What I experienced was the complete opposite. Among the lost items were: A box containing five pieces of valuable artwork, including an original piece from New Orleans worth $1,500.00 A rare first edition "Crazy for Cult" framed print by the renowned Glen Brogan, there are none on eBay so I cannot just replace any of the art they stole. Additional pieces that were invaluable and deeply personal Patio furniture, a rug, and multiple boxes of books When I first signed with them, they were incredibly responsive and friendly. But the moment I signed the contract, their tone shifted completely. It felt less like I was a client and more like I was dealing with a debt collector. The experience only got worse: They showed up six hours early, completely unannounced, disrupting my entire moving day They unpacked items that weren't even mine and I had to beg them to take those items back so they could get to the right person As I started to unpack and settle in, I realized how much of my stuff was simply gone And the cherry on top? After filing a claim, I received a check for $87.00. That's right--eighty-seven dollars for thousands in lost property They claim they don't use contractors--this is a lie. Both ends of my move were handled by contractors working through Chipman/Mayflower, who in turn had hired their own people. Their "no contracting" claim is pure marketing spin. I feel absolutely taken advantage of. If I had known how awful this would be, I would have used a POD and packed everything myself. At least then I'd have some peace of mind. And if you still choose to use them despite this warning, take out every bit of insurance you can--because you'll need it when your inevitable claim is filed. If you value your belongings--especially anything rare, personal, or irreplaceable--DO NOT USE Mayflower / Chipman. You'll regret it, just like I do. read more

Ryan Karns, our Relocation Specialist, set up our initial information to coordinate the move. He was very patient and professional. He kept in touch along the way and communicated as needed. I had spoken with other moving companies & they were pushy to the point that one of them took a portion of my deposit & when I called to say I am cancelling. Then they literally berated me. Ryan on the other hand was helpful & professional even though the cost of moving was higher I chose Chipman relocation mostly because of Ryan. Mistee Mendoza, our Customer Service Coordinator, was great to work with.. She helped with setting up moving dates, and assisted me as needed. She communicated consistently with emails and contacted me by phone to check along the way. Mistee was very friendly, courteous, and professional. When the shipping was delayed & our furniture got there later Mistee arranged for some funds to offset the delay. Also, some of my furniture was damaged & I made a claim & was reimbursed towards the cost of replacement. I did make a mistake as I requested less than what it cost to replace the damaged furniture. It was my fault to not doing my research.. Overall I had a great experience except for the delay & damages to my furniture though I did get some compensation for it. From there all went perfectly smooth, estimate from inventory and coordination with movers for a pick up and delivery time. Mistee was an excellent communicator who kept us informed of the moving process and confirmed the time of pick up the day before. Their agents Tony, Russell and Dave were on time, most courteous and professional; worked without a break for 5 hours, loaded the truck with great care after wrapping our antique furniture as if it were newborn babies. I underestimated the amount of boxes to be shipped in addition to the furniture but they were able to load them with perfect precision in the 28-foot van. Tony also supervised while moving pieces and kept a neat inventory of each and every item. When our personal storage company refused to give us our items on move day, they worked with us over the next 2 months to arrange a second move. Throughout it all, they responded to our many emails (and quickly!), answered every call, and always called back. They were positive, upbeat, and friendly, making an overall terrible experience (due to other factors, not them) much more endurable. They hustled and overcame every obstacle that popped up, including a strict HOA building, a difficult storage company, and COVID restrictions. We recently moved two of our family households from California to Georgia. We had lived in California for over 50 years, and in our home there for over 20 years. It was quite an ordeal to go through a move this big! Chipman Relocation really came through for us to make our move a pleasant experience, without a great deal of stress and trauma. Ryan Karns, our Relocation Specialist, set up our initial information to coordinate our move. He was very conscientious and conducted two visits to our home to conduct inventory reviews and gave us competitive quotes quickly. He kept in touch with us all along the way and communicated with us frequently. Ryan was so helpful! He even referred us to a contact for transporting four vehicles! Mistee Mendoza, our Customer Service Coordinator, was absolutely amazing! She helped us set up our move dates, and assisted us with logging in to the Mayflower site to get started with their app. She communicated with us consistently with emails and contacted us by phone to check in all along the way. Mistee was always very friendly, courteous, and professional. She was soooo helpful at keeping us informed about packing dates, moving dates, etc. She was able to explain each step in the process, and cordially answered all our many questions!!! (We had A LOT of questions!) She checked in on us before and after, each time we had people packing or moving. Mistee could tell that some of the processes were a little stressful and overwhelming at times, so she really made an effort to keep in touch and make sure that things went smoothy. She was in touch with our driver frequently and had a great rapport with him. She always knew what was happening and when. Don't know what we would have done without her expertise and assistance!! Wow, not surprised about the terrible reviews on Yelp, and I'm really wishing I would have looked these guys up before I did business with them. We had to move an entire medical office back in April 2017. Overall everything went ok with the move (despite them adjusting their estimate), however one of the workers caused some damage to our brand new office lounge kitchen counter. We reported this to the company requesting that they fix the damage they caused. We even showed them before and after pictures. However, because we didn't have video documentation of the worker doing the damage, the company tried to weasel their way out of paying for it. After some back and forth, they offered to pay half, which is not acceptable given that they were responsible for ALL the damage. Chipman lived up to their name - they chipped my kitchen counter, then did not pay to have it fixed. Don't go with this company if you want them NOT to damage your property and when they do, NOT cover the cost of repairs. read more

This company SPECIFICALLY says serving Escondido and the surrounding area. My move WAS FROM ESCONDIDO, so this review is totally pertinent. I am reposting it again. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY I've moved eight times in the last 30 years, across the country and back. I have NEVER had an experience like this. I am in the midst of fighting them about our move in early July. They claim they spent 8.5 hours doing our move, which is a TOTAL LIE. They packed us in two hours, took 30 minutes to drive from Escondido to Oceanside, then unpacked us in 2.5 hours. They were gone by 1 pm. They are claiming they were here until 3:30. Thank goodness (but now I wish I hadn't)--I bought them lunch at McDonalds. I have the charge card slip--dated and time stamped--that clearly shows I ordered their stinking lunches at 11:35 am. They claim they didn't get to my new place until 12:30! How would I know what they wanted? Why would I order it an hour before they arrived? Obviously--I wouldn't. Additionally, my new place is in a gated community. The front gate keeps records of when visitors come and go. They also claim they used five men--their paperwork shows three, I know there were four based on the lunch orders. They claim it took 45 minutes to drive from Esco to east O'side on a Friday at 10:00 am. It's 11 miles. Besides the above, the office people will not help you. Won't get back with you. Ignores email. IF you decide to use these liars, you better get EVERYTHING IN WRITING, review it AT LENGTH--EVERY SINGLE LINE--no matter how big of a hurry the driver is in, and pray you don't get the driver I had. Take pictures of the truck (I SAID TRUCK, YELP, NOT PEOPLE) arriving and departing so you have proof. Oh, and the guy that comes to your house to give you an estimate? Nothing more than a used car salesman. Don't count on him for ANY help. Oh by the way--I tipped the driver $60, plus $40 for each of the FOUR guys on the crew. The estimator George did an accurate job estimating the cost; Mitsie the office admin person explained the move logistics clearly and kept in touch with me throughout the move, quickly answering any questions I had; the mover Hector paid attention to detail and moved an antique glass china cabinet and grandfather clock as well as all our items with extreme care. My furniture was picked up on a Wednesday in the San Diego CA area and delivered the next Wednesday to the Nashville TN area. One week! It was great. Everyone we dealt with was professional and the move went well. The truck was late leaving the origin, but we were compensated for that. I consider damages to be minimal. The funny one was that a chest arrived locked, but the key was not to be found! My couch was not covered by these guys, so there were stains on it and they punched holes in the dust cover of the couch. Lost one of the arm covers for my couch. Very smooth move for me. I got multiple estimates and not only was Chipman the lowest, their seasoned estimator George made me feel comfortable with his estimated move time and effort involved. Of course the contact says that if the time runs under the estimate, I would be refunded the difference, which it did and I got a refund on my credit card a couple weeks later. If I could give a minus score, I would. This company is abysmal. They were hired by the owners of the property to move our belongings due to a renovation of the property. Items were lost, damaged, broken. I even received items that belonged to my neighbor mixed in a box of my belongings. They lost one of the bed post to my bed and then implied that it was never there to begin with. 3 weeks later, April 4, 2018 they showed up to my door with the bed post in damaged condition. They denied my claim because they said it was not submitted within their 30 day time frame. I didn't receive the forms until the 30th day!! I submitted it 6 days after I received it. They packed my belongings and moved them on March 3, 2018. They returned them on March 17th, 2018. I received claim forms April 17, 2018. Submitted them April 22, 2018. They acknowledged receipt of my claim via postcard dated May 9th, 2018 that stated that they would review it and I would receive payment within 30 days. I received a letter in July 2018 simply saying my claim was denied because it was not submitted within 30 days of my return. It is now October, and they have refused to return my calls, They have not paid my claim. NOTHING. They are liars and thieves, Especially David Hudson. Glenn Weed is no better. I spoke to him and he acted appalled but then had not returned any phone calls or done any follow up. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE WITH YOUR BELONGINGS!!! read more

I would give zero stars if possible. This review has taken over a year to write because that is how long it took us to get the last of our belongings from this company! There are too many shocking details of this move to recount here, but the highlights are; - we scheduled our move-out for the day that our house closed escrow. As of midnight we no longer owned it. At 11am one, yes, one guy showed up to start packing. He explained that they were overbooked and that they didn't have a crew or a truck for our move, despite the fact that it had been booked for over a month. Turns out that this is the 'logistics' guy which means that the whole planning and coordination of the move was his responsibility. By 4pm, one other guy turned up - turns out he was training, so had to have everything double checked. At 6pm a truck finally showed up with 2 more people. By this time it was evident that this move had gone terribly wrong and so my partner and I actually started loading furniture to help out. - I had been on the phone all day trying to complain to Mayflower (who we had hired for the move and who sub-contracted to Chipman). They did nothing, as did the management of Chipman. By around 8pm, the General Manager of the local office did show up. She kept apologizing and did, in all fairness, manage to get some extra help. However, at one point, two guys walked up to her from the street, asked if she needed help, and she asked "Do you know how to pack?" When they responded "Yes", she directed them to start packing our things. These employees are supposed to be bonded and insured, but it didn't appear that these guys were even known to her, let alone employees of the company. - We also had a storage unit that was to be emptied and loaded on the truck, but the storage place closed at 6pm. At 5pm we were told that there was no way that they would be able to finish emptying the storage unit that night and they would need to come back the next day. Both my partner and I had to work the next day, so one of us ended up having to take time off and lose work the following day due to their inability to properly staff/plan for this move. - Some of our belongings were staying in San Diego and some were being moved across country to our new home. Not unexpectedly, some of our SD belongings ended up in Boston and some of our Boston belongings ended up staying in San Diego. It took us over a year to finally get them to the correct locations. At one point, the person who was transporting them from Boston back to San Diego disappeared and Chipman did not know where he or our belongings were. Their explanation.....'he is a contractor so we aren't responsible for him'! - And don't bother complaining to customer service. I have emailed and called and not once heard back from their corporate office. I could go on and on, but honestly, what is written on this page can not convey the absolute and utter lack of professionalism that we experienced from this company. I have moved many times in my life and I have never, ever experienced this level of incompetence. Go ahead and use this company if you want....but you've been warned. read more

I used Chipman for a local commercial office move. The process to get a quote had a couple of hiccups (their automated system didnt send me the quote and some services were missing) but other than that my experience was great. The moving team arrived on time and immediately got to work disassembling furniture and loading boxes. You could tell that the team were professionals and worked well together. They used a combination of all of the different moving tools to load everything securely. I ran out of boxes and had one bookcase full of items, but instead of being annoyed, the team gave me a huge box on wheels and said I could just throw everything in!! I imagined the moving process would take all day, but I blinked and it was done! After interviewing five other movers, we chose Mayflower primarily due to the professionalism of George who is their estimator and a competitive price. The move was virtually seamless and we have no complaints. We give special thanks to Edgar, who is the driver and team leader. An unexpected but understandable delay caused a late afternoon arrival at the destination. The team, consisting of Edgar, Scott, and Manny worked diligently and nonstop until all the furniture was delivered and assembled. The job was not finished until after 10PM which meant they worked real hard. The teamwork of all three was noticed by us where they all helped each other and we would highly recommend them. They admitted to damaging some of my items but still refuse to pay or replace !!! They are ignoring my calls and when I finally speak with someone the story changes. I moved in feburary its August. I stored my stuff with ClosetBox from September 26, 2016 to February 28, 2017. This company picks up and delivers the belongings. I assumed since closet box had some good reviews, my stuff should be taken care of properly. WRONG. After getting my things delivered 3 days ago, I was very disappointed. My brand new bed frame, box spring, and mattress all have damage. My husband and I bought the entire thing not even a month prior to putting it in storage. The head board has multiple scratches that can't be buffed out. The box spring is ripped terribly. The mattress has 2 stains on it. There's broken wood on the footboard. The side piece of the frame is warped. And to top it all off, they lost all the hardware to put the frame back together! My glass tables have deep scratches. My lamp shades are dented. The black wooden TV stand has scratches. And after unpacking everything, I realized I'm missing a box that included very expensive bath towels, a shower head, and 2 king size pillows. I wouldn't be so upset about the missing stuff if it wasn't so much money to replace! We have since filed a complaint form with pictures and are waiting for something to be done. We relocated from San Diego to upstate New York in July, 2021. It was an expensive move (over $19,000), and for the most part, the move went okay. Administratively, we generally have no complaints. The pack-up was done professionally, and we had every expectation that the delivery would also be handled well. HOWEVER, that was not the case. First, we were given a delivery date and time which was not met, and nobody called us to give us a new time. When the van showed up in NY, the driver was exhausted because of his schedule, and spent much of the move-in trying to get some sleep in the cab of the truck, leaving his crew of young men largely unsupervised. Items of furniture were scratched or broken, furniture was incorrectly re-assembled, and several boxes were delivered upside-down. In short, the move-in was poorly handled, partly due to lack of adequate supervision. Apparently the driver needed to get some rest because of his schedule, but that is the moving company's problem. We paid a lot of money with disappointing results at the delivery portion of the move, and for the reasons stated, I would not recommend them. read more

George calculated our weight exactly (no hidden charges at the end) and advised how to save money by packing myself and where to purchase boxes to get money back for unused ones. The team that loaded the shuttle were professional, courteous and FAST. We have done 12 moves (4 international and 8 local) and this was by far the easiest load/unload. Our cross country driver Walter was on site at both load/unload and kept me on track for his prompt arrival on the East Coast. The team for the unload was just as great. Again they were prompt, courteous and meticulous about where items were to go. The move actually came in just under what what quoted and I must stress there were absolutely no hidden costs. The coordinator Mistee was also a star. Due to a family emergency I had to change my move date and she worked with me (as well as all of the logistics) to make sure everything went smoothly. NEVER USE THIS FIRM: This company acquired the assets of a company that kept our items in storage for several years. When we finally had the items delivered, many items were missing and they have been the most uncooperative company with whom we have ever dealt. It is very possible our items are at their location in mislabeled vaults, but they refuse to allocate any personnel to try to locate our items without charging us an arm and a leg...that is after we have paid for years of storage fees for items that they cannot locate and have not offered any refund for those fees, which are not immaterial. We are beyond frustrated and would not wish this experience on anyone. read more

Chipman inherited me from Hidden Valley Moving and Storage, with whom I put several appliances and pieces of furniture in storage. After 10 years (yikes!!) I was finally able to afford to move into a place large enough to have all my things together again, and I called Chipman to bring my things out of storage, combined with picking up and moving my heavy items from my old place to the new. Mistee was courteous and efficient and gave me an estimate for the cost. She kindly told me the cost difference between two separate moves (storage and heavy items) and a combined move (the combined was much cheaper). The price came in better than I was expecting, what with inflation since the last time I moved. (They had never ever raised my rate for my stored items, in the whole ten years, either, yay!) We set a date and the day before, she told me when to expect the movers. Alfonso and Alex showed up right on time with a flatbed truck with two big crates on it. One had my items from storage in it; the other was to hold the items being moved from old place to new. They were very courteous, and wrapped every single thing in blankets-- a good thing, too. Alfonso turned out to be the Tetris Master, and had to be, because Mistee had shaved her estimate down to the cubic inch. My things barely all fit into the second crate! Delivery was more of the same courteous professionalism, and all my "stuph" got deposited in my apartment in good order. read more

I used Chipman for a move from Del mar to New Jersey. Everything went well on the pick up but fell apart on the other end. The drivers missed their delivery window, damaged and lost a furniture and boxes. They were running so late they rushed the whole move and we didn't even get to inspect the truck. Now we have have been passed off to deal with the contracted shipper to make claims. Really shop around before you make any big moves. Our move has been a horrible experience and it is not over. I ABSOLUTELY cannot recommend Mayflower/Unigroup and Chipman Relocation & Logistics at this point. Movers picked up our stuff on 12/20/2019 in San Diego and as of 1/3/2020 the items are still not delivered. We got another update this morning that indicates the items now "may" arrive on 1/8/2020 (first 1/2 then 1/4). Mistee couldn't tell us where the items were located and the MyMove site shows no information about last checkpoint. The Unigroup/Mayflower corporate office says the crates are in Fontana, CA (about 120 miles north of San Diego) as of today. Our stuff has moved 120 miles in 14 days and it "may" arrive in another five days. It's shipped via UPS and so Unigroup/Mayflower says they have no recourse because it is a UPS issue. Oh, and they charged us the full estimated move value on our credit card even though the weight value is known to be less (we'll get that refund later!). The corporate office is following a script when you talk with them and absolutely does not care. They said that nothing can be done at this point. There is no customer service or care here at all. Don't make a mistake with Mayflower like we did. They'll just blame UPS. Will update when our items hopefully arrive one day... read more
