Would not use again or recommend. Hired to move mother's furniture from one apartment to another at a senior residence. Unprofessional, inconsiderate, and stole items. 1. The crew, Leo and Deion, showed up 45 minutes late but had time to stop at Starbucks for coffee. 2. They did not bring a furniture dolly or hand truck because their equipment was in their truck which was in the shop for repair. Poor planning given I booked one week in advance. Then they asked to use the senior residence's bellhop cart instead. Inappropriate. 3. Lastly after they left I realized the cell phone stand I have been using this past week while packing my mother's apartment was missing. I had used it just that morning before they arrived and no one else has been in the apartment. I now wonder if they took anything else. Possibly jewelry but I don't have my mom's items memorized so hard to tell. What an awful experience for the $350 2-hr minimum plus 3% surcharge for not paying cash, for essentially one hour of work. I didn't give them hard time about being late or not having any equipment even though it was very annoying and an inconvenience to me, but to discover they stole something so petty from an elderly woman and that I actually gave them a tip is adding insult to injury. I just finished moving into my new apartment and I'm glad to finally write this review for San Diego Small Moves! Alex and Marcus were on time and ready to help me move a bed and dresser from a friend's house to take to my new place. It turned out that the home had been flooded recently and Alex was very honest and told me that the furniture was damaged and would break due to the moisture in the wood. Thankfully, I ended up not taking any of the furniture thanks to their advice which saved me a lot of hassle and money. I booked San Diego Small Moves for my son's room from his apartment. I booked the service in less than 24 hours. I called and emailed the company the day before the move. Everything worked out well, it was a quick and professional move. The movers wrapped all of the furniture which was nice. They stacked everything neatly and we're willing to move anything we asked. It took 1-hour although they required a 2 hour minimum. They charged me a flat rate of $320 (for 1-hour) but that was the best I could find without having to book a 3-hour minimum. Heaven Sent!!! My cousin had promised to help me move and then canceled. I was very upset as It wasn't in my budget to expense movers. After strategizing and looking around social media reviews (google and yelp) I came across SD Small Moves. I made my decision after watching a small very well directed video of the company in action and this is what enticed me. Called them spoke to Jadyn and she quoted me for 2 hours based on the description of items being moved. Date and time on a Super Bowl weekend was not affected like other companies quoted extra for weekend move. It's an upfront honest quote. The entire experience was SEAMLESS, I made sure I was prepared and everything was packed/sealed ready to load. I didn't leave any small items for the "movers" to handle. I think this is something we tend to overlook and don't keep in mind this ADDS time and cost $$ if you are not properly ready to go. They are movers not magicians. Proper planning prevents poor performance. I booked for 2 hours my 2 movers were STELLAR (Luis ALWAYS had a smile on his face) arrived on time and gave me a courtesy notice on ETA. Terrible customer service this time around, especially from the owner. Who says "more bad news" in any regard when addressing a customer?! Even more so, a customer that has previously used this company twice and spent thousands of dollars already. Actual email from owner at 9:30pm this evening: I apologize for the errors our employee made. He is new and did not map out the distance you are from San Diego. For a drive up to Irvine we would need to add $200 gas / milage fee to your job. Also you wrote that you have 3 flights of stairs but you didn't specify which location that was (point A or point B) ? Also how many flights of stairs do you have at the other location? Please specify what floor you live on and what floor you are moving into? Is there an elevator at other location that you did not specify? Since you do have 3 flights of stairs at one location, we do need to add one extra mover. That is too many stairs for only 2 movers so for 3 movers we would also increase the price again $40 per hour. So the first two hours will have an additional $80. All in all new price quote = $830 for 2 hours + $160 additional hour for 3 movers and a moving truck with all the supplies. Also finally more bad news, since your move will occupy a lot more time than originally planned, we can't move you on Monday 05/08. We picked SD Small Moves to move us across town. The quoting process was simple and transparent and I appreciated that they didn't charge double drive time. In general, the move went very well. Nothing of ours was damaged (just a sconce light that was bent in our apartment when it was hit with the bed frame) or lost. They did a fantastic job wrapping and using furniture blankets on all of our stuff. We have a very large heirloom mirror that we were anxious about which was fine. See pictures. There was really only one issue. The move was scheduled for 9:00am on a Saturday. They did not show up until 2:05pm. The movers told us that several employees had called out sick and they'd had to hire extra help off craigslist to cover. Luckily, we were able to tolerate the delay and the movers themselves were very nice and apologetic. Saki, Ricky, and Kevin were wonderful. We were only quoted for two movers but a third showed up partway through the move and we weren't charged extra. We did spend the extra money for damage coverage which we didn't end up needing, but good for peace of mind. When we got to billing, I was put on the phone with the guy who does payment and give him my card info. He essentially rounded down the total price such that we ended up getting the last 45 minutes for free. It took them about 4.25 hours total (2.5 load, 0.5 drive, 1.25 unload), for a 1 bedroom apartment (and no small stuff, only boxes and furniture). The movers also made it right when it came to payment given the late start. Aside from the late start, everything went swimmingly. I would tend to say this was just a bad day for them schedule-wise and not the norm, and would definitely hire them again. Money well spent! read more

Before I even agreed to do the job I asked Ken about his insurance. It says it covers 60 cents per pound. That is just ridiculous. I called him and spoke to him about it and he said, hey if we damage something I'll cover it, you have my word. We do great work and we are very careful. I said, ok I'm taking you by your word. He also told me they would be there at 9am and be loaded and on the road by 11am. The guys showed up an hour late and it took them 7 hours to load everything. This fouled up my entire day and plans to be on the road by noon. I specifically told them to be careful with a genuine leather recliner. So the next day I was at new destination, the driver told me he would drive till 10pm that night then get up early to meet me at the new house early. Well they never left San Diego. Instead they changed the plan without telling me and left San Diego the next morning so they didn't arrive till after 2pm. Again fouling up my entire day as we waited for hours for them to arrive. When they arrived they unloaded the leather recliner and I noticed that it wasn't even wrapped. So I quickly inspected it and sure enough it had scratched and scuffs on one of the arms. I immediately pulled the driver over and showed him and said, you guys didn't even wrap this and I specifically told you to be careful! He just shrugged and said, hey we tried, we're not perfect. I messaged Jen and showed him pictures of this and a mattress that they drug on the ground and ruined my. He quickly referred to his ridiculous insurance again saying oh we estimate those to be a couple hundred pounds we'll give you $120. I said, the chair alone is worth $1000 and besides you gave me your personal guarantee! How are you going to make this right. He never responded. And an entire box is missing! Really great if you have a small move for a low price, the two men who moved me were very respectful and got everything done efficiently. However they lost a star because I don't agree with the company not allowing debit or credit cards as a form of payment. I live in the real world where those are ALWAYS acceptable payment methods pretty much anywhere. I encountered an issue when I hit my zelle limit for 24hrs and my Venmo account was having issues, in the middle of moving my boyfriend called them and whoever he spoke too said credit card was ok, then completely changed his mind somehow and said only cash, zelle, Venmo, or cash app. It's kinda shady business practice but if you're looking to save a buck it's for you however I will not be using this company again for that very reason. SD Small Moves was really great. I used them to move a really large piece of furniture from my mom's house to mine on short notice and they were super accommodating! They're very professional with communication and the workers are super friendly and helpful. My mom's partner has ALS and they were all really careful with their health precautions while at her house and when they arrived at my home they couldn't have been any nicer if they tried. My mom said she was blown away by how friendly they all were, I agreed. I was charged a flat fee, not a three hour minimum like all the other places quoted me. This was incredible in my opinion. To start they were on time for the move and during this move, the individuals Michael and Leo were very professional, while being very kind. Responded quickly to my request for a quote, scheduled me within two days, told me when they were going to be there, updated me on their status (got delayed by a move that took longer), and then when they did show up, they got everything packed, wrapped, and loaded in 30 mins. After a short 10 min drive to my new place, they had every thing unloaded, unwrapped, and placed where I wanted it, assembled, in another 30 mins. VERY impressive and deserving of all the business! Update : I was very happy in the past with San Diego Small Moves . I contracted them 3 times in the past 7 months . Sadly, that was not the case today . This week I had yet another move that I was arranging . Moving Mom into assisted care . As you can imagine it's a stressful time . I contacted Small Moves on Tuesday . They quickly replied confirming they would move Mom on Friday for 280$ basically a bedroom set and a few other items. We have packed everything and have it staged in our garage. Thursday at 4:15 I receive a call from San Diego small moves . Of course , I think they are just calling to confirm the time/date for the NEXT day . Nope ! They were calling to tell me that they Mis-Quoted ! The move would now be 480$ !!! Again , this is the day before ! They tell me that my location is far from them . Again , they moved Moms furniture in to the same location , less than 6 months ago . The last three moves were the same price that I was quoted for this move . Had they quoted me 480$ when confirmed I would have declined and had plenty of time to find an alternative. But the day before ? At 4:15 in the afternoon . Seems to me this company has no integrity. I received an email from the owner explaining that the company would loose money , if the completed my move . I will NEVER recommend San Diego Small Moves to anyone . Guys were hard working but not trained. I appreciate them. However they broke my TV, broke my outdoor lamp, took hours to move, although I was told it would be a few hours. They didn't do inventory and forgot some of my equipment, left at my previous home that I discovered. Jay H, DSM was a nightmare to deal with and uses insurance of $500 deductible so he doesn't have to be accountable to providing a professional service and helping resolve broken equipment issues that his employees broke. He also requested I sign a non disclosure agreement if he could pay me an extra $150 above the $500 deductible I was out of pocket for my broken TV and outdoor lamp. I declined. Seriously..Also I had to Venmo some remote person, not registered moving company the cost of the move. Nothing written, no receipt unless you request. Would never recommend. Unprofessional moving company. I found this company through Yelp for my mom's move from her home to a small apartment in assisted living. Mike was thorough and explained what they do and provided documents to review to consider when packing her things so I scheduled with this company right away. Mike called about 30 minutes before their start time to let me know they were on their way and just stopping to pick up the mattress bag. They packed up quickly and were very careful with her belongings by wrapping the furniture well with moving blanket and taping them securely.They even took a floor lamp I had planned to hand carry and it arrived in excellent condition. Both men started unloading quickly at her new place and said if we had scissors we could remove the tape. I got the message that this would speed up their completion time so we helped by peeling off the tape and removing the heavy, protective blankets. I had a good experience using San Diego Small Moves! I had to move two heavy furniture items last minute and wasn't sure if a regular moving company would be interested in such a "small move". My first instinct was to reach out to some folks on TaskRabbit, but I wanted two people because one of the items (a solid-wood sideboard) was rather heavy and all of the TaskRabbit responses I got were from single movers. When I contacted San Diego Small Moves, I was pleased with how responsive and efficient they were both on the phone and over email and we set up an appointment for the next day. On the day of the move, Alex, Edgar, and Luis showed up 15 minutes early ready to get started (at noon, in the middle of a hot San Diego summer day, no less). They had brought a 16 ft truck, plenty of wrapping materials and blankets, and a dolly. Since the items didn't have to go far, we were all done within 45 minutes.
