In the year 2065 places like Chipotle will all be staffed by robots. I'll place my order with a robot and feed my credit card into a robot's mouth for payment. No errors, everything will be done flawlessly because robots don't make mistakes. The Chipotle robots will know what I mean when I say 'hella guacamole' because they've downloaded an actual definition of "hella" from Urban Dictionary (of course the robots have internet access). However until the dawn of quality robotic service, humans will continue to make mistakes. It happens. But while shit does happen it's what we error prone humans do to correct issues that makes the difference. I call in 25 burritos for a work meeting, not a colossal order but definitely larger than a normal take out. Manager #1handles my order with care, I'm pleased. Day 2 we arrive on location to pickup. After we briefly describe our order, the terrified scent of "oh shit, it's not ready" starts to fill the air. Our order was not lost, they somehow missed it, just forgot. No good. So Manager #2 not wanting to throw in the towel apologizes profusely and says "Your order will be done in 10 minutes." The kitchen explodes into activity, with tortillas, lettuce and beans flying everywhere. Sure enough that order clocks in at the 10 minute mark, one burrito born every 24 seconds. Here's the kicker, the manager says "Your order is all free, please take it with our apologies. And next time you order with us 5 burritos will be on the house as well." That's $180 in free burritos we bounced with, plus a promise of another $30 next time. Like I said mistakes happen, but this location showed that if an issue comes up they will do everything in their power to make it right. Thats A+ recovery there in my book, well done Chipotle. My tacos slide down the line and then another server steps up and throws a handful of lettuce on my order. She tries to pick the lettuce off? No, please make me three more. Chipotle is the fast food version of a traditional taqueria much like panda express is to a chinese restaurant. This is fitting, because the Chipotle chain is owned by McDonald's... Chipotle is good for a quick mexican food fix, but it isn't all that quick on the weekends. This particular Chipotle gets packed around noon on Sundays and the line moves pretty slowly. I would imagine that it gets a lot of business over the week too, but that may change when the new Chipotle across the street from El Cerrito Plaza on San Pablo Ave opens. The food: pretty standard flavor. I usually get the burrito bowl with brown rice (white rice tastes better in this combo in my opinion, but I'm trying to be 'healthier'), guacamole, black beans, corn, tomatoes, veggies, and lettuce. Today, however, I swapped out the guacamole for SOFRITAS which are tofu chunks that have been braised in poblanos, other chilis, and spices. It's the new filling option Chipotle is offering and I would say that it's an okay addition to my burrito bowl. It was a bit salty and I was hoping for a more intense flavor. I'm not sure I would get it all the time, but I'm glad I tried it. *note: the veggie option comes with free guac, but the sofritas option does not. read more

They have a pretty good variety of fast food, but the service from the manager is very rude, and they have inattentive kids making the food and then wearing the hat of cashier. They have confusing safety protocols with crowding in line that employees do nothing about and customers who sometimes mask and sometimes don't, making it unclear if they even require or enforce masking or not. They have a confusing and inefficient system for paying and waiting when your order is finished well before the crowd of people ahead of you. I was making my order, and a crowd of about 6 people were all clustered ahead of me less than a foot apart from each other in this location's tiny, narrow area for making orders and paying, just standing around blocking the rest of the line. You are basically trapped in the line due to the layout, almost like a tunnel shape. There was a holdup for a long time with no one in the crowd even ordering or paying or doing anything but standing around. The lady making my food walked all the way to the end of the food area by the cash register and looked at me as if waiting for me to continue my order, but I couldn't even see most of the options down that way and couldn't really move there through the crowd. They need crowd control and a designated waiting area. I had to ask the lady ahead of me if I could move a bit forward to finish my order, and she took one step firward, but all these people were still standing blocking the way. When I finished my order, I still couldn't pay, being stuck in an unmoving herd. The employee then stood by the reguster playing the role of cashier and stood there passively doing nothing. They should have designed the building with a system and space for people to pay when their order is finished instead of waiting without explanation when there's some holdup with a herd. The manager was incredibly rude and acted like he was looking for a conflict when I said it was confusing how to make the rest of my order and pay when my finished food was by the register. He yelled and absurdly asked if I wanted him to remake my food. Who said anything about remaking food? It was bizarre. I said I wanted to pay for my food and he said to get out of his store. I again asked if I could pay for my food. Literally all I wanted to do was pay for my food and this guy shouted and prolonged the wait instead of helping. Most managers care about creating a safe and pleasant experience for customers and sorting through or preventing confusion. This Chipotle manager is not one of them and made me feel unwelcome, without any apology. I haven't seen great customer service at other Chipotle locations, but none have been as awful as this one. read more

*smacks lips* Look, chipotle is good.. the flavors, textures, portions, etc. are typically consistent and harmonious thanks to the Fast Food Design Division of the Burrito Cartel. So why is this location terrible? Why is this the worst Chipotle in the Berkeley area? I'll give you a hint.. and it has nothing to do with the food.. but the shortcomings of the employees who were allegedly "trained" for the job. Besides stiffing me on nearly every crucial ingredient during my last trip, the stick that broke the camel's back was the seemingly incompetent (more than likely untrained) employee bunching my burrito up into a knot before squishing it into a burrito shaped foil ball. (You know you're screwed when they avoid looking at you after bagging it up.) Long story short, this location repeatedly fails on quality control. And this is management's fault from lack of oversight. So dear Management, you have lost ~10 would be/ had been patrons because of your subpar quality control. I don't like burritos, but I was still able to enjoy Chipotle because of their kid's menu. For $3.50 I was able to eat a small chicken quesadilla with a side of rice and beans, a bag of chips, and a chocolate drink. Woohoo! I hope they don't ever put age restrictions on their kid's menu. The serving size was just perfect for my appetite. My husband loved his carnitas bowl ($6.50) with a side of guacamole ($1.80). We will definitely be back! read more

I don't know why so many people are so critical about this place. I grew up in the Mission district and had lots of tacos and burritos. This place is the real deal. Cheap, has parking, tasty, healthy, and has many options. Yes, the food doesn't come piping hot and are sometimes luke-warm but for something fast and easy, this is the place to come. I hang out in SF quite often and I wish they had a place like this. It is an excellent place to come after a day of shopping. Try the steak with corn topping. Carnitas is good too. They give you a good amount of food-- a plate or burrito is between 5.25-5.95. Meat is humanely raised, no antibiotics, fed vegetarian, and tasty. Also, there is a vegetarian option with black beans and guacamole for about 5.50. I like the "bols" the best. Try it. read more

It is pretty awesome that there is a nearby Chipotle with a lot of seating and huge! The one in Berkeley is cool and all but they are really small and it is very rare when you can find seating. I came here with a friend the other day and was amazed by the size of this place. They also have things on their menu that the one at Berkeley doesn't. It is also part of a shopping center so parking is obviously free at their parking lot which is a plus for me. I would for sure come back here again. read more

This restaurant has not been one of my favorites. The meat was sitting out cold which is very dangerous and it wasn't tasty. The pinto beans are bad and are oddly flavored and their only option for rice was lime flavored which actually wasn't bad but it was limited. The cashier couldn't make change and she accidentally charged us for the price of two of what we ordered. It was very cold in the restauraunt. The chorizo burrito was somewhat good. And the kids quesadilla was good but they overcooked it and it was really messy. All in all this was not a good restaurant experience. read more

Well, this location was as expected: quick service and clean interior. $7 for a veggie burrito that was the same price as picante a few blocks away, but smaller size overall. This is one of the worst Chipotle's for getting your food delivered. Something always goes wrong. They either lose your order entirely or send your order with items missing. There is also very little help provided when requesting assistance on the part of Chipotle or DoorDash. Lastly, they'll hit you with the "if you have to meet your Dasher face-to-face, please wear a mask as a safety precaution," while the "Dasher" is completely unmasked. I don't recommend ordering from here if you have other options available to you. This review is based on multiple awful experiences. I wrote my last review in 2011 (apparently, on Christmas). It's time for an update. Still 5 stars! This is the best Chipotle in the Bay Area. The staff is competent, is generous with the scoops, and this location is just really well managed overall. I hope this particular location gets more recognition that I believe it deserves. It's in a convenient location next to an REI and Walgreen's, across the street from Office Depot, Dollar Tree, and Whole Foods, and has a parking lot I've never had issues finding parking in. This is a bit dramatic, but my husband would like to add that this particular Chipotle is his favorite restaurant in the entire world. *eye roll* read more

Came here on a weekend for lunch. Tough small shopping center parking due to REI and Walgreens. Has outdoor dining, although I didn't care for the guy outside the restaurant begging for money. Enjoyed my bowl which had both rice and lettuce. Modern interior and serve yourself soda machine. Order at the counter and pick up when your number is called out. Didn't get sick. No more advertising in the restaurant about farm to table or organic or sustainable anymore. Still serving plastic straws. Pretty loud music overhead that I didn't care for. Loud. read more

I first heard of Chipotle from an episode of Oprah (what!!). She was talking about the movie Food, Inc. and all about the Giant Food Companies and the added hormones and antibiotics that goes in the farm animals. In the end she promotes 1 restaurant that only use animals that don't have synthetic hormones and for the most part uses organic produce. Chipotle Mexican Grill. If your a big fan of the authentic Mexican style food with a lot of grease, I don't think this is for you. What Chipotle does bring to the table is a new taste to Mexican food. My personal favorite is the Chicken Burrito with black beans, mild salsa, cilantro-lime rice (the magic ingredient), little bit of sour cream, and lettuce but the Burrito bowl (everything above without the tortilla) is a very close second. I really like how you can pick and choose what you want and how much you want on your food. I really like this spot in Gillman St., my family and I goes to this Chipotle almost every weekend for lunch. The only thing I don't like is sometimes it gets crowded and they try to rush you through your order. Also there are plenty of parking space but for some reason every time we go there it seems like there are only two or three parking spots left. I'm still a big fan of the "greasy" Mexican food style, but Chipotle gives me another option. Besides Oprah thinks its cool :) read more

OK so, it's not authentic, greasy, Mission-style Mexican food.. sue em! Get over yourselves people, you know what you're in for at these chains so if you have a personal beef against these types of places, go in with the idea it's going to totally suck. That is what I did and I left pleasantly surprised & extremely full. They have all the components of a Mexican place, but it's not. It's a line of tasty components that will either be wrapped, stacked or taco'd up nicely for your eating pleasures. I had the steak burrito bowl and it was more than filling & more than flavorful. The 'hot' sauce was actually hot, which is more than I can say for some of the so-called 'taquerias' I have been to. I kept questioning the white rice and my pal pointed out it's 'white rice for white people'. Well, I happen to like white people & the rice had a pleasant, lime cilantro seasoning so, no complaints here. If you ask for guacamole, you almost have to tell em to chill out. As a burritophile, living in the Bay Area is a wonderful thing. Because you can't swing a cat around here without hitting a taqueria. And I've tried, folks. I've swung many a cat in my day, and ALWAYS get that reassuring splat of kitty on Mexi-goodness. But when I lived in DC, I wasn't so lucky. There was ONE taqueria in the entire metro area. And it SUCKED. So the only option, really, was Chipotle. People 'round here hate on Chipoodle. I mean SERIOUSLY hate on it. And, I can kinda see why. They're a corpo-rito joint, once part-owned by McDonalds (thanks to Tanisha for the update!). Their restaurants try to be a mix of industrial and trendy. Sorta like you expect to see Dieter from Shh-prockets (TOUCH MY MONKEY!) munching on a burrito there. But you know what? Their stuff is tasty. And they actually get it right. You ask for no rice, they give you no rice. Beans aplenty, should you choose. Their meat isn't greasy and wobbling with fat and unnamed bits. Their salsas are fresh and tasty. Yeah, it irks me when I have to pay an extra $1.50 for a splat of guac, but at the end of the line, when I've paid my $8.50, I end up with a VERY tasty and supremely hefty tortilla stuffed with goodness. Stanley --- Dear Stanley, All of that positivity makes me think that you're asking about Chipotle on Gilman! Yes, it's time that I gave an update. They've done a few very small changes, but their changes have really broadened what they serve for vegans and vegetarians. First, they have their new sofritas. It's a spicy tofu (about as spicy as their medium salsa, which complements it well), and on its own as a protein, it can be a little much. It's delicious, even for those of you who aren't into tofu. The texture is a little like ground meat, but without the meat. Ground meatless meat. Whenever I order it (in crunchy tacos), I make sure I add a little bit of black beans. The other awesome menu change is their pinto beans. I love pinto beans! I could eat pinto beans all day, every day, and not get sick of them. All day, every day. Every single hour of every single day. That's how much I love freshly-cooked pinto beans. They've always served these, but they've recently changed their recipe to make them vegan. My favorite way to eat the pinto beans: Get 3 tacos made on corn tortillas, no rice, with pinto beans (ask them to drain them, as they are pretty wet, and you won't have the rice to absorb the juice), corn, cheese, guacamole, lettuce, and a little bit of your choice of salsa. Or try a dressing-less salad. Get a bowl with lettuce on the bottom (no rice), lots of pinto beans and fajitas, corn, mild and medium salsa, sour cream, guacamole, and cheese. Eat it with a corn or small flour tortilla on the side. It's not light, but it is wholesome. There are a million ways to eat them, but as much as I love pinto beans, the flavor of lime in the rice goes much better with black beans. If you're getting a burrito or bowl with rice, opt for black beans. My ultimate burrito: White rice, black beans, fajitas, guacamole, corn, medium salsa, lettuce, and a small amount of cheese and sour cream. There are tons of options for every diet. I'm a vegetarian who spent some time gluten-free (this place is great for dining alone!), and they had many options for me, including my dressing-less salad, above. The expiration date for a buy 1 get 1 free burrito/bowl/salad coupon at Chipotle was extended for another week. This visit was the second time I used the coupon. Before the coupon I haven't been to a Chipotle for a while, because I noticed they bumped the prices up across the board a quarter or so. I'm assuming the cost of the increased options and selection of meat needs to go somewhere. This location is right next to REI and tucked in alongside the Walgreens that is the more noticeable building entering this little plaza. Pulling in I saw a homeless guy hanging around outside. The homeless guy started to then turn around and bolt off as fast as his weak legs could move him. I wondered to myself; why was he speed walking away? A police then turned the corner into my view. That answered that question. The poor guy was then escorted off the premises. This Chipotle has something that no other Chipotle I've seen before, a homeless person proof men's bathroom. After taking my order I went to wash my hands, and found it locked. What I thought was interesting at that moment was there was a lock for the men's side and not the woman's. All of a sudden I hear a buzzing noise. I look around to try to find out where the noise was coming from. The noise came from above, concentrating on the buzzing above, I hear someone yelling in my direction. Then felt a bunch of eyeballs in my direction; a moment of silence please. "Sir, sir, we're buzzing you in!" I promptly acknowledged them and rushed into the bathroom. That was kind of embarrassing. I heard a couple of chuckles. Did my duty, left the bathroom in a slightly hurried fashion, and sat down to start my lunch with Bun. I guess they have a lot of homeless people coming by this establishment. Offers the same o' Chipotle stuff here, they gave me a fair amount unlike other Chipotles (Union City!!). The parking lot gets busy here, so be prepared to have to drive around to search for a spot. They use a gold wrapping for their burritos now also. From the two other places I went to this past week, I think they all use gold wrapping. Thinking behind it? Maybe it'll look more valuable. I don't know. Most likely it's a cost cutting issue. Sometimes I forget Chipotle follows a corporate template. read more

It had been a while since I had eaten here, so I decided to try it.....I guess the best thing I can say is that it didn't give me food poisoning. I really wasn't looking for spicy, I wanted mellow food. Their beef was spicier than I expected. It wasn't a bad flavor, but I feel like there wasn't full disclosure of the level of spiciness. In my opinion, Chipotle food will always be 5 stars because of the quality and freshness of the food. This review isn't about the food..it's about the customer service and staff who work in this Chipotle restaurant. They are a bunch of young workers that don't exercise pleasant customer service skills. It also appears that most of them are new because they're pretty slow in the assembly line. What really ticked me off about the service here during this particular visit was the following: 1) Standing in line for almost 10 minutes, it was finally my turn. But then a customer who went straight to the register to pick up and pay for his online order realized that his taco bowl wasn't even ready because they failed to make it. So, they took his order and asked me to wait (which I did) and they completed his order. They still charged him for the entire meal which I thought was wrong because the purpose of submitting an online order is so the meal is prepared within 15 minutes of submitting the order (I would know because I've done it before and the order wasn't complete). They rang him out and didn't apologize for the wait or inconvenience. 2) After my veggie bowl was complete, they slid the bowl over to the register and I asked for a drink. It's apparent that I was going to dine-in because there was no lid on my veggie bowl. The cashier rang me up and I paid for my order and my pushed my bowl and drink to me. I looked at him and asked for a tray...That's supposed to be the norm! The kid took out a tray and kind of threw it on the counter and put my food on it. Like, really? You're bothered because I asked you for the tray which means you had to do extra work? I found this extremely rude. I said thanks and just walked away. read more
