Passing through town. Came in around 2pm on a Sunday. Seated quickly. My husband Yakisoba and I ordered the ahi tower roll and a spicy scallop regular roll. I was very pleased that they have fresh/raw wasabi. The Yakisoba came out so fast but the chicken was dry, otherwise tasted well. About 10 minutes later my regular roll came out and then my second about five mins after that. The spicy scallop roll is mostly spicy crab meat and the tower is not the same as it shows on the menu however it was good. Not sure how to eat it so I just mixed it up like a poke bowl. Service was crap and towards the end of the meal everything I ate and drank tasted like burnt and then smelt burnt and then realized I am pretty sure a worker stepped out the back door and had a cigarette because the whole place started to smell like cigarette smoke. I asked for a small box and took what was left because I couldn't even taste my food anymore. Bathrooms are clean-ish. We have frequented many sushi restaurants along north county- slo and have had many favorites through the years... we stopped at chitose on a whim to try something new from our usual and we were blown away. I love the Chirashi bowl (deconstructed sushi) but my husband does not like raw fish and rice is bad for his diabetes. He normally gets the Korean wings but on this night he wanted to try something new. That's when I made the drastic mistake of suggesting the Yakisoba. The menu photo shows large prawns and chunks of chicken and veggies over noodles. But what we got was NOTHING like the photo. It was grey in color and taste. The shrimp were no larger than my thumbnail and the chicken were itty-bitty cubes. Likewise, the broccoli were minuscule pieces you could barely see. Good food! Poor, deceitful practice of gratuity. For parties of six or more, a gratuity will automatically be put on your check and charged if using your credit card. I asked for a separate check specifically to the young server named Alexis, but was given a check with a gratuity added and charged to my credit card. She explained it happened because she split the item from the check of the party of six, even after I specifically asked for a separate check. Only after I complained did she completely void the charge and issue me a new check. A law was passed over six years ago that prohibits restaurants to force a gratuity on any parties regardless of size, but is impossible to enforce so restaurants without merit often do this. I get it, so many people will not tip. But, that's the cons of this business. It's a service industry. I got the Red Dragon roll. Was not as spicy as I would have liked. The Aji nigiri lacked freshness, but the market price of the Uni was great. Overall, food can be decent, but business practices are what's really fishy at this sushi restaurant! read more
