The best chao long in town, the bun bo hue is good too. One thing that is so great about this place is the price, the price is very cheap for the level and quality of food that you are getting. Granted this place can get a little chaotic with the people inside eating, people waiting in line to order, and the up keeping of the place could use a little more help, but it is totally worth it. Just got home from our weekly grocery shopping and we missed (AGAIN) one item (a bag of pig bones) we paid $10.20 for it! Called in and the attendant agreed to leave it in the frig for us to pick up tomorrow. This is the 2nd time it happened to us. Yesterday, I bought the shredded meat which is "cha bong". When I came home and opened, I found out that the cha bong was smelled and musty and cannot eat that. So I decided to go back and to tell them that the store was selling musty food. When I came back at their store, there was one old lady told me that I bought like few months ago to exchange, and she was very rude to customers. After reading the review I just had to try how tasty the chao long is. What a disappointment. Yes it is tasty, however the doi (sausage) is made from all the scraps pieces and trimming of the pig, pieces that are normally discarded such as fat, pork rind, cartilage, membrance...It grossed me out after I had a thorough examination of the inside of the sausages. So I usually dont like to criticjze bad food unless I have to. The portion you get is so meh but when I taste it, it taste so watered down that I dont taste any of broth. My mom and I both ordered chao long and boy it sucked. The porridge is so cold. We request that they heat it up. But the owner says you got to pay extra for that. What type of resturant does that. Terrible service. The young guy works as a cashier is so rude. The lady that work inside is so rude as well. They treat customers like shit. I paid for my chao long and when is ready the lady asked Who is the chao long belong to. I responsed back to her that was mine. She did not believe that was mine and asked me again 4 times like what is in there ? Which cashier that I paid ? ... While the cashier due just stand there and did not said any thing. This place is fairly clean. It gets one point for that. Customer service: Basically, it sucks. The moment we walked in, the chick gives us a menu and stands there hovering over us. My son and I shared the com ga roti. Tthe menu picture showed the red tomato rice. But she brings out regular white steamed rice. The ONLY reason why I ordered ga roti is because my son and I love the tomato rice! I asked the waitress where the tomato rice is. She said, "Oh, that's just in the menu." Then stomps off without saying anything further or offering anything further. WTF. That's false advertising. There goes the rest of your tip. Then I bit into the chicken and I swear to God it's 4 weeks old! It was hard, tough, impossible to chew. My son finished off the steamed rice because it was the only safe option on that plate. I starved. I said, ok fine, I will just finish up my soursop smoothie. I took one sip. DISGUSTING. Now, I did not expect real soursop (too expensive) but if you're gonna use the artificial flavoring, at least DO NOT SKIMP ON THE ARTIFICIAL FLAVORING! My husband thought I was being picky. He took one sip and said, I can't believe they would be THAT cheap ... about artificial soursop flavoring! It was basically just ice. I paid $3.50 for ICE. My son's mango smoothie came out looking orange and like mango but it was hardly that. Again, there was artificial flavoring. But at least it was better tasting than the soursop. I would not recommend the smoothies AT ALL. Go next door. There's a dessert place right next door where you can get smoothies that are 10 times better for the same price. I would not return here and I would not recommend this place to my worse enemy. This place sucked in every which way possible, from the food to the location to the "service" to the environment. Pretty good hole in the wall fast food/to go place. The service was friendly and patient, unlike a lot of places in Westminster if you don't speak Vietnamese. My cubed filet mignon was pretty tasty. Decent flavor, but you don't get the peppers and mushrooms that most places have. It's only $6 though. The duck and papaya salad was flavorful and fresh, although the duck would have been better roasted. My wife's shrimp and crab noodle soup was a shade bland, but with plenty of shrimp. I've come to Cho Tam Bien a few times when I've been to Westminster. This place is unique considering the fact that it's a restaurant but also sells prepackaged food and to-go items. From outside, I couldn't even tell that it was partially a convenience store. The food here is really cheap and they do give you hefty portions. The items I always order here are the Chao Long and the Chao with minced pork (forgot the Vietnamese name). The Chao Long is filling and delicious. In a nutshell, it's rice porridge with condiments such as pork intestine, pork blood pudding, and blood sausage (all of which are very fresh, I love the pork blood pudding). I recommend it but definitely try something else if what I mentioned is making you cringe or evoking feelings of wanting to vomit. For the other Chao I had, it's pretty average considering the fact that there is only one key ingredient. You can make something like the rice porridge with minced pork at home. Service is exceptionally quick every time I'm here and the waitress is very friendly. One tip I'll leave is that if you like Chinese fried breadsticks in your congee, be sure to let them know. It's only a dollar and it doesn't come with the congee like I thought on my first visit. Give this place a shot, I promise you won't leave parched with MSG from the food. read more

I came to eat chao today and they took my money. I trusted them for the change after I ordered so I did not count my money and put it away in my pocket. Until I was done eating with my meal and walked to next store to buy other stuff then I realized that I was short $3.00. I went back to complain and they gave me all kinds of excuses... Even the cashier guy name Hi remembered that he did not give the right change back, and because I did not have the receipt which was taken away by another lady who brought out the food, they refuse to refund the change. Then they decided to get my phone number so they can contact after they count the money at the end of the day. I waited all day and they never called.... Count your money before you leave or they will rip you off like a thief. By the way, the service was very bad with all rude people. I will never go back and I will tell others.
