I purchased an HVAC system from Choates in 2013. Every single summer since that purchase, the unit has had problems. I would call Choates to come out and they would, and of course every time they came out the cost would be at a minimum $150 or more....almost always MUCH MORE. It was always something with this unit. Instead of replacing an obviously faulty unit, Choates would put a band-aid on it. This summer, the unit started leaking through the ceiling and the whole house started shaking violently. Choates told me that I needed a new evaporator coil. After I agreed to take down a bad review off the internet, they agreed to replace the evaporator coil and charge me for the coil only and not for labor since it was within the 10 year warranty for parts. I waited weeks for the evaporator coil to come in, and during that time paid $100s of dollars to put freon in my unit to keep it running during the hottest part of the year. When the coil finally came in, Choates replaced it, charged me approx $1,900 and told me everything was working fine. The next morning, I turn on the AC and it doesn't work. Choates comes out and tells me that there's another problem and unless I fix it, the AC isn't going to work. I asked why this wasn't noticed the day before, and the excuse was...well the technician was focused on replacing the evaporator coil, so he just didn't notice it. Bottom line, I ended up having to pay another $2,000 to get a working AC. In two days, Choates managed to steal almost $4,000 from me. I say steal because of the extremely shady business tactics Choates uses to extract as much money as possible from people who know nothing about HVAC systems and must rely on what the technician tells them. I asked how much it would have cost for me to get a new unit and the technician tells me probably around $7 to $8,000. So, in two days I paid Choates over half of what it would have cost to replace the entire HVAC system. DO NOT USE CHOATES!!! YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!! read more

C.K. Just completed our spring maintenance check. He thoroughly cleaned the outside ac fan and checked freon level (we have an older system). Not only was he on time, he was early, which was fine with us. All the technicians we have ever had with Choates have been professional, courteous and knowledgeable. In addition to C.K. Servicing our HVAC under Choates Family Plan, Devin stopped by to give information on new units, as ours is very old. I have worked with Devin before. It's nice to recognize people, and have them remember me, it makes for an easier and more comfortable exchange. He gave us three options and explained each one thoroughly, including making recommended repairs and keeping the old one we have. So, they finished installing my ac/HVAC system. They got here at 9:30 am finished at 2:15pm. They sent an electrician about an hour later to put in a new breaker for the system AND then a plumber to add additional drainage. The time stated also included a 20 minute familiarization of this new (to me) system. They cleaned up the area better than when they started. Put drop cloth down on all the floors, wore mask, booties and most importantly, didn't mess off! If you're in my area and your heating and cooling system start to crap out, give CHOATES a call. Called 'em on Monday, New system installed by Friday. . .it don't get no better! If I were to complain, it would be that they drug the outside unit across my front rain soaked yard, leaving some very deep gouges that hopefully will heal. I'd use them again. read more

Choate's has been an absolute pleasure to work with from the moment we called them yesterday. We have been without air conditioning for the past 5 days and we were unable to find good repair service through our warranty company . I called Choates yesterday and Colin their customer service representative was pleasant and efficient. They dispatched Jeff to come to our house today and he quickly diagnosed the problem. He then had our air conditioning unit repaired within an hour and a half. Choates has also been informative along the way. They text us a picture of Jeff and his arrival time then immediately after he left I had the invoice in my email. I have been nothing but impressed by Choates and their employees. Called Choate's due to a water leak in upstairs shower dripping thru ceiling downstairs. The girl answering the phone was so helpful and placed me as an emergency call even though they were booked and I was not an existing customer. Anthony Williams called to let me know he was on his way and I also got a text from the company letting me know he was on his way. Anthony was a great technician who found the problem quickly and was so happy with the cost of repair. We will be purchasing the fam plan for maintenance and any future repairs. Three years ago, moving into our current home, I wanted to have our HVAC serviced and I noticed that Choate's installed the system a few years before. Since that first service, I was thoroughly and completely impressed with the quality of service. They also replaced my water heaters when one nearly busted but was caught by a technician doing his inspection of my home's plumbing. That saved us thousands and if the water had flooded my home. Our ac went out and the service man responded the same afternoon that we called. It didn't take long to analyze and fix the problem. I was a little disappointed at the price and the push to sign up for the family plan, which will be determined later if it is a good investment or not. The technician was very personable. When our AirBnB guest woke to house at 53 degrees and no heater I called the folks at Choates. the tech came by mid day. Tested and found a couple of system faults he then first replicated then resolved. the tech was neat and thorough. After he replaced the needed parts, which his truck had, he back tested to make sure the system was solid. our guests were very happy saying the home was toasty. read more
