Our first visit was phenomenal - they gave us the best deal in town to switch out our front brake pads and rotors. The labor wasn't too expensive ($135) and we had provided our own parts. We left feeling very happy to have found a good, honest mechanic in our area. When we had a small problem with our front passenger window, there was just a small stripped screw that messed up the window guide that keeps the window securely on its track. My dad is a mechanic and told me it was a simple job that would take him little time to do if he were here in the state. So I took it in to Choes and they got the parts (a grand total of $6.00 for the screw and backings), took them no more than an hour to do the job, and they charged us $170 for labor!! Because the tiny stripped screw was difficult to get out. At a MECHANIC SHOP. Where you have great TOOLS to do that. Our front brakes had stripped screws too but they didn't rip us off at that point! No, they made us think they were awesome so we would come back, THEN steal from us. The work was SO minimal and done so quickly, I could not believe how much they charged. They lost all our trust and we will not be back unless they try to rectify this situation. read more

I would not recommend this auto repair shop. They removed the rock guard on my truck to drain oil and replace oil filter. The rock guard has a large hole in it for access to the drain plug. The oil filter is also reachable to the drivers side of the truck around the rock guard. There was no need to remove the rock guard at all. When they replaced the rock guard they used what ever screws they had in a tin tray, not the originals. The screws they used were also not tightened and some left out entirely. I watched all this happen and assumed that since I was standing in their doorway watching, they would do a professional job. Certainly not the case. If I could I would give them no stars at all I would. 1 star is being generous. read more

Wow, where to even start. Ive got an older Toyota and it needed some TLC that i knew it needed but I had put it off. After getting my tax money back, I went with a close friend to see them just less than a week ago. Sean, stopped what he was doing and immediately walked over and asked what i needed done to the car and told us to give him 2 1/2 hours to complete the work needed for my passenger side CV joint. Right on time, i return to find my car completely fixed up and now in driveable condition. The price i was quoted was fair and right on, i was even charged a little less. Im not sure as to why, but either way it was great service from start to finish, but the story doesnt end here... Two days later, im driving to work and find smoke coming from underneath my hood. Thankfully I had made it to work and was parked, trying not to panic I went to work and let my car cool down as i determined that the radiator was leaking fluid. I called Sean again on my break while at work and explained to him my findings and i asked for the worst possible rough estimate on a quote for replacing my radiator. Again, being suprised... it was a greatly fair deal! He told me to come on in after work, driving carefully of course. I pulled up, he immediately hopped on the phone and ordered my radiator and told me it'd be about an hour and a half or so. (this was at 4pm) I walked to school (nearby) after dropping my car off and patiently await for the phone call to denote the completion of my car. Shortly after 5:30 (it was like 3-4 mins) i recieved the call. When i arrived the car hood was still up but it was good news, he replaced the fuse in my car to get my clock back in working order as it wasnt ever really a priority when ive got a watch and what not. Overall, both times being treated in a polite, friendly manner, and $500 later, I will most definitely be returning to Choe's for all my work and passing along my great experiences to all my friends and those looking for a great mechanic in the Concord area. I couldn't have asked for a better experience and I trust Sean completely to be fair and honest with me (meaning if he cant do it, he will refer you to a place that will do you right). I've mostly had good experiences here, so it feels a bit strange giving this place only a 2-star rating. But there is a reason for it. On the good side, they do good work for very reasonable prices. They are very quick to help you and will do the work for less than many other shops I've been to. I was glad to discover them and took my car to them at least 6 or 7 times over the last 3 years...until I had an incident with one of their mechanics named Sean. Here's what happened. I brought my car in with an electrical problem. Sean came out and did some testing. He thought he had figured it out and fixed it, so I left, only to have the problem reoccur shortly after leaving. So I brought my car back and Sean came out again. I made a comment about the car having this same issue again -- did not accuse him of anything or say anything bad about him in any way -- he totally flipped out on me and became argumentative and confrontational. He had completely misunderstood what I said (his understanding of the English language really isn't what it should be -- if it was he wouldn't have blown up like that). I then tried to calm him down and tell him he misunderstood me. He continued to be upset telling me "Well you are saying it like it's my fault" which was NOT at all what I said at any time. Additionally, it turns out Sean misdiagnosed the problem. After I brought my car back in there he now insisted the problem was with my car key, so I went to a locksmith, and the locksmith told me the problem was NOT with the key and gave me additional information which convinced me the problem was indeed not with my key. So reluctantly I brought the car back to Choes, now for the third time. I told Sean what the locksmith said, and Sean started to argue with me again, until a very much older gentleman at Choes came over to closely observe what was going on (maybe Sean's dad?). The older guy never said a word, but once he started watching Sean suddenly became much more business like and professional, got out his electric meters, did some more testing, and lo and behold he came to the conclusion that he had indeed been wrong initially and the problem turned out to be something they could fix after all. So he fixed it and became much nicer after that, but as far as I was concerned the damage had been done. I haven't been back to Choe's since and I won't be going back there again due to Sean's outbursts and, at least in my opinion, his mechanical shortcomings. Bottom line: Overall this is a very good shop mostly and I've never had a problem there previous to the Sean-incident. I wouldn't try to dissuade you from bringing your car there. Most people have had good experiences, and their prices are pretty reasonable. But NOBODY wants to have a mechanic jump in their face over something they misunderstood and misdiagnosed and was not the fault of the customer. That should never have happened like that. So if you do bring your car there and the mechanic you get is Sean, well, you've been warned... read more

I know, I know, 5 is the max on Yelp...but if it were possible...I'd give Choe's 10 Stars!!! The only shop my car knows is Choe's. The hubby introduced me to them 7 years ago when my old Tercel decided to spew out liquids from under the hood. Before then, the hubs had been a loyal costumer since they opened back in 2001. They kept it real with me and told me that it would be up to me whether or not I wanted to fix the leak in the Tercel, however, they did let me know they didn't think it would be worth it to fix. I ended up buying a Lancer. Everytime I need something done to my car, I immediately think of Choe's. They're friendly, professional and most of all, quick & reliable. Their prices are reasonable (they don't rob you of your hard earned money) and they do a great job on any job, whether big or small. Unfortunately, the clutch on my Prelude died yesterday and without hesitation, I knew I wanted it towed to Choe's because they would take care of me right away. Sure enough, they took my car right in (4:17 PM) and started diagnosing the problem immediately. We got a call 40 minutes later from BOTH Steve (4:53 PM) and Sean (4:57 PM) letting us know what needed to be done. After approving the work this morning...my car is currently being worked on. My poor Prelude has been through a lot the past couple of years but regardless of what needs to be done to it, I know my car is in good hands when I take it to Choe's. On a side note: I went from a Tercel, to a Lancer (yes, they worked on that car too!!), to my current Prelude. They have taken care of all three of my cars and have also worked on my husbands Camaro and my mother-in-law's Camaro. Oil light came on when stop at traffic lights. Took my T&C to Choe's to have them diagnose. Steve and Shawn look and advised the oil sensor switch was leaking. They replace it and all fixed. $15 for the switch. I have been going to them for 20 years for all my cars' service and problems. They are always honest and quick. They give you their diagnosis and what it required to fix it. If the service is not read yet they will tell you and won't charge you. For example, I asked them to check my brakes. Called half an hour before they closed and asked how much a broken windshield wiper diagnosis would cost. This is after I went to some D&H or something like that auto shop on Monument who wanted to charge me $135 for the diagnosis alone. Choe's said the diagnosis would cost $60. Dropped off my car, he called half an hour later and told me the motor was out. I drive a Lexus so the stock price was like $250 for a new one. He offered me a used one for $100 and said he could do everything, including the diagnosis, for $250. He had to order the motor and it got there on Friday morning [dropped it off Wednesday evening]. When I went to pick up my car, he showed me the motor like he was supposed to. Super fast, efficient and trustworthy. Although I did find out a Toyota Camry motor would have worked just fine. These guys are GREAT. I took my car in today just to see if I could set up an appointment to have my brakes checked. Something sounded wrong in the back. They actually pulled my car right in, put it up on the rack, and showed me how my brake pads were clearly worn down to almost nothing. Then they offered to fix it right away. He first helped me with quick diagnose of faulty power window switch free of charge. He saw I could fix it myself and sent me away. I was very thankful for that observation. I really like this place. I recently moved to the area and he was the first person I took my car too and has been the only one in the past two years. He is very honest and gets the job done. He always explains things to me as well and as a woman I respect him for that because there have been many times where auto shops try to get over because I'm a woman. The only reason I gave 4 and not 5 stars is because I showed up to get an oil change at around 4:45 and he wouldn't accommodate me. You are on yelp because of a big repair you are worried about, and you want to know if this is a place you can take your car to have it repaired in a transparent and honest way. You're good, dude. Steve is the real deal. When I called for an estimate on a timing belt and water pump replacement on my ls400 I was about to buy, Steve sounded a little rushed on the phone if I'm honest. He called back, gave me a reasonable estimate (way less than a dealer, a little more than what the internet told me it could be), and I set a time to bring it in. Had the car pre-inspected at a lexus dealer before purchasing and found it also would need a new valve gasket. Called up Steve again the day before the repair was scheduled and he called back with a quote in about 20 minutes and said he could do that repair as well. I bought the car, brought it to Steve the next day. I was a ball of stress at this point because my budget for this car was at the edge of what I could do. Steve went over the estimate with me one last time and I gave him the keys. He said he could have it ready the NEXT DAY. That really explained why he sounded like he was in a hurry on the phone; that is a huge workload. For anyone reading this who is not familiar with the ls400's 1uz engine, the timing belt and water pump are and absolute pain in the ass to get to. You would need to disassemble half the engine, replace the belt, tensioner, pulleys, and water pump, reassemble the engine. It's at lest 8 hours of work. So being told that this service as well as two valve gaskets would be done in a day basically, I was pretty impressed. Steve called the next day, said it would be ready a day later as there was an issue with one of the ignition coils being too brittle when changing the valve gasket. The coil was fine, but the plastic valve shattered (It's a 20 year old car, so I was not surprised). I came in the next morning, a day and a half after I dropped it off, and everything on the car ran perfect. No more vibrations from the previous timing belt. Steve is professional and to the point. I plan on coming here for future car services. read more

I will NEVER go to a dealer or any other mechanic again! Steve and his crew are amazing. Nissan quoted me hundreds more than Choes. I requested a quote through Yelp, Steve replied quickly and professionally. When I brought my Armada in, I told Steve that the brake fluid was dark and needed to be flushed, per Nissan. Steve said, "dealers always say that, I'll check it myself". And what do you know, it did not need to be flushed. I did need a new cam sensor replaced. Nissan said it would be 3 hours of labor. Choes ran to get the part, replaced it, and did an oil change, all in less than 3 hours. My truck is running great now. I'm so impressed with the honesty, quality of work & price. On a late Friday afternoon at 4:20 pm, the right rear passenger window of my Toyota Highlander would not go up. I called three mechanics that I used in the past, two were too busy to help and the other had an answering machine on. I had been reading reviews on yelp and recognized "Choe's Auto" as one of the top shops in the area. I drove my car across the street and Steve came out. He took the door apart and said that the window had fallen off of the track. He would need to send it out for repair and asked that I return the following week. In the meantime because he was concerned about safety and possible rain, he pulled the window up in place and disconnected the motor. It was such a huge relief as I was unsure of how I would secure the car over the weekend. He spent 35 minutes of his own time to help me out. I wasn't even a customer...yet. Repeat visits have been great. Stopped by for oil changes and each time it was done within 20 minutes. Took the car in for front and rear brakes and it was done within two hours. Price quoted was fair and reasonable! Way below high dealer mark up cost! Shop was clean and organized. Always busy because of limited staff! Only owner and his assistant personally attend to your vehicle. Be sure to call and make an appointment. Occasional reminder to follow on status of work! For major repair work need to allot more time. No shuttle service. Costco is nearby and taqueria walking distance at Detroit St to kill time. Waiting area not too cozy! Uses after market parts considerably lower than OEM! I hope it last as long as OEM! Takes Visa card payments. Bottom line, I was happy with the repair work which would have cost me over $1.5k. I only paid 1/3 of the dealer estimate! My vehicle is now running smoothly again! read more
