I love trompe's you walk into the great big bakery area oh my gosh everything looks so good and it is trust me. I probably tried most of the things in the bakery lol. It is a charming environment nothing to write home about lol but it's fine. Everything seems clean they stay busy the locations I have been to, but this one is near the Chandler mall has good parking and I've never had to wait more than 5 to 10 minutes for a seat, even if it's busy I love the beef and barley soup. Not sure what has happened to this place. It used to be a family favorite for breakfast. The food quality has extremely changed. Everything used to be so good but now it's almost like they find any leftover ingredient and throw it together to serve you. Even the bagels are not fresh. Other than one waitress who's always so sweet (miss L) everyone else just seem like they truly hate their job or people in general. There is one guy who's been our server the last few times we've gone, he just takes top place for bad service. He's always angry, shows up to greet the table late, then rushes you to take the order and when we've asked for more coffee, he's disappeared. I understand that he might be having a bad day or going through something but when it becomes a pattern and it's the same every single time then it becomes a problem. And I have to say the place has not been the cleanest, it's like you get the ick being there and the last time my family and I were there, sure enough, we saw a roach crawling right next to us on the table. It is disgusting! Needless to say we barely touched our food and left. To the managers and owners of this place, please take the time to really clean and maybe call pest control. This is not ok! I was very unimpressed with my most recent visit, and I like to think it doesn't have as much to do with the restaurant chain as maybe the cooks/server? My pastrami slider was served room temperature, the role seemed to have just come out of a fridge, the cheese wasn't melted at all. It was really very awful. The matzo ball soup is lacking flavor. Kind of a letdown when it comes to their bakery. I was looking forward to a visit here as I sometimes miss home and always looking for a good bialy. I bought a loaf of marble rye ($7) and three bialys ($2 each) here. There are plenty of other bakery items available including an assortment of bagels, babka bread, and cookies. Marble rye is pretty good but at $7 a loaf, this will likely be an occasional purchase to rotate with the other breads I enjoy. What was very disappointing were the bialys. They had no onion filling or did they even taste like bialys. It's been hard to find good bialys here but it was also kind of hard back in NYC too. I guess they are old fashioned and going out of style... I did see they make pumpernickel bagels, so I could be back in here to try to those out. There's a restaurant here also, so I could be convinced to give that a try. We'll see... read more

Welp another place where the service was not great. Drinks were hard to get and our order was wrong. The server put in my son's order incorrectly and did nothing about it. The service here was so bad and I'm very bummed about it. I looked at the menu before deciding to come here over Cheesecake Factory and im regretting it. I got here around 6:30 on a Tuesday night. I literally waited 25 minutes at the check in booth before being seated. Multiple employees saw me standing there. The hostess took a large party of 12 to a table and never came back. Two girls were behind behind the bakery counter and said they were not able to seat me because they were not hostesses. I continued to wait against my better judgment. When I was finally seated, the girl who walked me to a table, was one of the ones who was behind the counter. She was very nice, but could not find the menus and sat me at a dirty table. It took another 10 minutes before my waiter came and asked me for my drink order. I should've left then but I was so hungry and it wasn't busy so figured food would come out quick. I placed an order, and waited a normal amount of time to get my meal. I chose to get a burger and subbed the bread for sourdough. The bottom of the bread was so greasy when I picked it up, that the entire sandwich fell apart. My hands were literally covered in grease. I picked at the rest of the sandwich before finally giving up. The fries that came as the side were OK, but they didn't have any flavor. It took quite some time for the waiter to come back to check on me, and by that time, I just asked for the bill. He asked how everything was and I said fine, and I don't think he was really paying attention or cared about my answer. After paying for my meal, I walked back over to the bakery counter because I wanted to take a cookie and a bagel home. The gal behind the counter was the same one who sat me earlier and she was nice. She got me a black and white cookie, and then I asked if they had any more sesame bagels. Now, when I was sitting at my table, I saw another girl putting the bagels away. I asked for a sesame bagel, and she said they didn't have any more. That girl looked at me and said with an attitude these are the only ones we have left. I chose to get a cheddar jalapeño bagel, even though I knew that they still had sesame and I don't know why she didn't want to give me one. Are you hoarding the sesame bagels to take home? Overall, this was a very awful experience. I am visiting from out of town and was really looking forward to trying the bread and bagels at this place. The fact that I was in this restaurant for over an hour and a half due to terrible, terrible service, and terrible food was a very huge waste of my night. read more

The food was really good, the portions were large and the service was fast and courteous. It's a large restaurant so plenty of seating even during peak hours. The menu is large and offers something for everyone. The take out bakery is the star! After eating a large meal we got several bakery items to take home. Stopped in today as I had not been to Chompies for some time, and they recognized my birthday with a coupon (be sure to sign up for their club!). Very pleasant waitstaff - got my order correct and quickly. I had the corned beef sandwich and cole slaw - both were very good. Half of the sandwich goes home, of course. While the employees at deli counter were wonderful, the quality of the food has gone downhill. In New York, I worked in Ben's kosher deli and chompies is very much like the kosher deli, but the quality is not there. The prices are outrageous as well. 7 for one knish? It was delicious, and loaded with fruit....not ice. Definitely got a bang for the buck!! We got a basket of pickles, and those were great!! My pastrami sandwich stated " smothered" in coleslaw, and 1000. It was so boring, dry and not smothered one bit; plus was expecting toasted bread,which it was not. I had to ask for a side of 1000. The coleslaw as my side dish was super good though. I tried the peirogies; they were good,but boring aswell. the sweet and sour stuffed cabbage was SUPER sweet with molasses- no sour. Cream cheese. Chairs. Table. The Southwest Cream Cheese is gone!!! Nooooooo!! WHY aren't you making it anymore??!!!!! It was often sold out, so it doesn't make sense! No reason to drop the item! PLEASE PLEASE bring it back!!! It's the best on a Jalapeno Cheddar bagel. Also, the chairs need to be replaced- they have been there for years and years and are rickety!! The tables are also too low (& I'm just 5'9", so it's super low for my husband who is 6'3"). Please change them out. Food is delicious. Portions are commensurate to the prices. He quickly discovered the foyer was the deli sandwich, and bakery area. We're both ginormous fans of sandwiches so he was impressed. Labor Day Monday, 09.04.2023, was busy as anticipated but the wait for a table in the restaurant was short. We were greeted by the hostess immediately even though the lobby area was packed with waiting patrons. The decor was to remind folks of New York City, specifically. However, I've only visited albeit briefly. Our server was kind, swift, and accurate. I rolled with a Steve G's Five-Town Special (sandwich), and my bro, ordered a burger. We were on a succinct timeline so we ate, we paid, and I left with a mini slice of carrot cake. If you're a New Yorker transplant, might I suggest stopping in. Otherwise, if you are a bake goods fan, or love sandwiches (sandos), at least try this joint once. read more

My husband ordered the pastrami bagel sandwich and also loved his meal. Coffee was yummy and cup was always kept full. we went for breakfast yesterday and ordered an omelet it was cardboard eggs, not fresh fluffy omelet like you would expect for 14$ we use to go there regularly for breakfast but not anymore. the table condiment bottles were dirty---the salt and pepper shakers dirty. no detail to cleanliness. Mr. P and I were out and about and thought "today seems like a good day for Chompie's". So we made a special trip to this location, situated by the Chandler Mall. Surprisingly, the parking lot was super empty. But it was a bit late in the afternoon, so we figured it was just a lull between lunch and dinner. We walk in and stand up front for a while before we are acknowledged. It is a ghost town inside, less one older couple. We're finally greeted and get put in a very isolated back room. I should also probably mention that this room is like a giant Faraday cage. Mr P's work had an emergency and he needed to call in. It was a crazy dead zone, and he dropped his calls like 4 times. If they start to close the divider and lock us in, I'm making a run for it. I don't have to run fast, I just have to run faster than Mr P! So I order Mr. P the Nova Lox on an onion bagel with capers, onions and the other toppings. Simple enough. I order a cup of pea soup. His order is totally wrong. He gets salmon. The server later brings a cup of capers. The bagel is totally not onion...not sure what it is. My soup is fine. Brought the incorrect order to the attention of our server, and she was super snippy about it. Nevermind, we'll deal. Guess we just got Chompie's B Team today, because your service sucks. "The salmon and the lox are different", she says. You don't say. That's why I ordered the lox. We're trying to get out of there, but the server (Valerie?) is nowhere. I had also wanted to add a few deli items to my order. So after a good wait, I opt to just go up and ask. I order 3 deli items and it takes the young man a hundred years to package them. Then nobody can still find my server, so I just pay separately. When I get back to the table, our check has appeared, and I pay it. The one nice thing is that she recognizes that I have points and asks if I'd like to use them. I hadn't realized I did, so that was decent. We paid, and we were out of there. Probably our first unsatisfying Chompie's visit. Next time, we should just head for the Tempe location, where we always have a great experience, and a great meal [that we ordered]. read more

My first time at this Chandler location. I ordered an egg salad/tuna with red onion on Jewish Rye, a side of coleslaw, and a bowl of the sweet and sour cabbage soup I have had at the other locations. This review is only about the soup. It was lukewarm if that...but to my taste...have they changed the recipe and are now using artificial sweeteners to it ??? I didn't eat more than 2 spoons the odd taste lingered for hours. If you do use in your soup PLEASE alert the customer on the menu. Other than that I am a happy customer. read more

At this location they are truly trying to please their patrons! We regularly buy their high protein/low carb bread but the last two loaves had large holes throughout. They didn't make for the usual nice morning toast. When I brought back one of the loaves in the morning of May 5 and explained to the the kind lady in the bakery, she happily took care of it and even gifted a couple of cookies to boot. I ordered a bagel breakfast sandwich to go and while waiting to pick up I noticed flies in the display case for your pastries. They were all over your canolis and fruit filled pastries. I literally wanted to ask for a refund but proceeded to pick up my order. It did make me think quite a bit and i had to check my sandwich for extra unwanted ingredients. Then after leaving I felt like I should make sure other restaurant guests don't see the same thing so I called and the manager on duty at the time said they have known about this issue and are getting it "fixed".
