Got a text from my wife and daughter inviting me to meet them at Chop 40 for a late lunch. Having been subject to their service several times in the past I asked them to order for me as they we're getting there first. Unbelievable, no really unbelievable, it took them 20 minutes to place an order for three burgers and an hour and ten minutes to get the food. The waitress eventually came apologizing for the delay and saying the order got lost. The restaurant wasn't even busy and we didn't see the waitress for at least 45 minutes. Every time I've been there the service has been the same, really poor. The employees are friendly and the burgers are good they just can't get it together, slow or busy it's the same experience. read more

Read the reviews, looked at the menu and decided to stop for dinner. Chop 40 rocked it! My husband had the chicken Hot Skillet with Bacon Broccoli as a side. I had the Chainsaw Tacos with red wine-basted Tri-tip. Our food was SO good! Chop 40 will be a go-to restaurant for us when near Reno. It's just a short distance from I-80. The place is part bar, part restaurant but still had a friendly, rustic ambiance. Outdoor seating is also available. Two thumbs up and five stars. read more

We pulled up to this little hole in the wall restaurant not really knowing what to expect. They had some outside tables and a large-ish space within a tent just outside the entrance. Once inside, we stood next to the door and the bartender came out to seat us. There were only two options left and she let us pick. Our server was quick to greet us and got us started on our drink orders. They had a good wine and beer selection and once we received our drinks, we immediately ordered since we had already scouted out the menu and other reviews beforehand. I ordered the Grilled Tanjent with the sauce on the side (so I could see if I could taste the cilantro before smothering my sandwich in it) and the roasted pepper soup of the day. My husband went with the BBQ Western Burger and fries. Both were pretty dang close to perfection. Honestly, I'm salivating just thinking about it now. There are plenty of other things on the menu that I want to try but we'll probably order one of these every time and split alongside another entree simply because of how good they really were. This could very well be changed to a 5-star experience in the future, with just a bit more server interaction. She was great with the initial work but didn't do much as far as checking in on us throughout and my husband's glass sat empty for a while before she noticed. After telling many people about how good this place was, I took the family here for lunch. At least 4 of the 18 chicken wings were most certainly not cooked enough. Stopped after eating 8 and finding the 4 undercooked wings. We didn't bother trying any more. The server offered us more wings on the house but we declined. No adjustment to the check, just an apology. They got a new cook unfortunately and some things were taken off the menu like the ribs and the Korean short ribs. The max and cheese recipe is different as well. We were not impressed and will not be returning. read more

What an amazing and delicious spot. Our off road group of over 25 people pulled up at around three and asked if they could handle us after another place pretty much turned us away. I don't know how they did it, but the food was fantastic and the service amazing. Somehow they also managed to seat us all together and handle all the different checks. No complaining and the diversity of the items ordered and food served was very impressive!. My hamburger was fabulous but I'm definitely getting back to try the Smash 40 or the Ruben. Chop 40 is the latest incarnation of a rustic-themed restaurant in Verdi, and I'm pleased to say the new owners have a done a nice job sprucing up the digs, menu, and service. I made a reservation for our large group of adults and kids, and the staff were very accomodating. The kids ordered mozzarella sticks ($6), chicken wings with C40 sauce ($10 for 10), chicken tenders ($7), and sliders ($7); the latter two served with fries. The fried cheese was battered, with a decent garlic and herb marinara for dipping. The wings were juicy and crisp, with the sauce a good blend of sweet and heat. The tenders were surprisingly juicy, and the sliders sported housemade rolls. Moving on, an order of fried elote balls ($7), bite-sized fritters of roasted corn, five cheeses, garlic, onion, lime, and cilantro, with sour cream and lemon dipping sauce; flavors reminiscent of Mexican street food corn-on-the-cob. Next up, fresh chicharrones ($5), crispy pork rinds with a sauce of vinegar, shoyu, and onion; the pig chips made a fun crackling sound when dipped. Three bacon and brussels skewers ($9) followed, with crispy bacon, roasted sprouts, and garlic cloves, drizzled with balsamic glaze. Even the little guys liked it. Moving to large plates, a house salad of mixed greens, veggies, and feta with wood-fired chicken breast and house ranch ($10). Both the meat and dressing were overpowered by dried tarragon, and the cheese was missing in action. Hansi's fries ($12) made up for the lack, a pile of shoestring potatoes and smokey pulled pork--glazed in house barbecue sauce--with melted cheddar and fresh jalapeno. A chorizo burger with a side of coleslaw ($12) featured a big handmade sausage patty on a potato bun with lettuce, tomato, and onion. The burger was fine, though the coleslaw could have used more seasoning. Basically wet cabbage with a hint of vinegar. Because we couldn't decide between the two, we ordered a pair of 14" pizzas ($20 each), including the Blue Hawaiian with marinara, mozzarella, ham, and pineapple, and the Yeti with barbecue sauce, mozzarella, pulled pork, chorizo, and red onion; each finished with blue cheese and banana pepper. Both were fantastic, with thin crusts and chewy edges. It was the second "Hawaiian" pie--ever--that I've both enjoyed and would order again. Despite having plenty of food to share amongst us, I felt I'd be remiss if I didn't try the day's special, a pesto elk chop with side of spaghetti ($32). The grilled chop was huge and done a perfect medium rare, topped with shredded parmesan and a really nice housemade pesto. I savored every delicious bite. The pasta was fine, tossed in a mushroom marinara. Simple, yet effective. The meal came with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which I let the kids share. Though I was too full for dessert, the ladies and kids outvoted me and I'm glad they did. Servings of cheesecake ($6 each)--both plain and drizzled in caramel--were textbook examples of the classic. Not too sweet, pretty standard crust. But they were completely outshone by Grandma Daisy's cast iron cookie with ice cream ($7). It comes with a choice of either caramel or chocolate sauce; the kids of course said, "both, please." An adorable little skillet is filled with chocolate chip cookie batter--baked--then served hot and gooey, ala mode. No matter how full you are, don't leave without it. read more

This spot was an amazing date spot. Beer cold and fresh, and the Tri tip seasoned PERFECTLY! Everyone around us was laughing and having a great time. However towards the end of our visit, my date and I were plagued with bees over our tri-tip salad. A bee trap was about 1 yard from us, but there were enough bees around us that we couldn't stay where we were. We had to awkwardly change tables because the bee wouldn't leave. I've been going to Chop 40 since they opened up. I love their outdoor patio, as well as their indoor dining. A good selection of beer. There are a wonderful variety of appetizers (chicken wings are great!) as well as hefty helpings of regular meals. We have also done take out pizza. All good! It's very casual and very friendly. Ignore those fake one-star reviews from people that haven't even gone there yet (Gracie), because those folks are trying to bring this local business down due to their politics. Ive been coming here for a year now, since moving to Reno from Redwood City(Silicon Valley). I would have never known this restaurant was here except a friend brought me and now I'm here almost every other week. I love the food, but its the servers, regulars and owner that make me feel at home. Its a cozy Wild West vibe inside, and my kids like to come and run around and play with one of the bartenders kids. They love the grilled cheese and chicken tenders...People are very friendly, in this town and honestly I would say that hardly anybody EVER talks politics. Unfortunately verdi is filling up with the tattletale liberals from CA, and complain about everything(slow to answer the phone when staff was cut in half during COVID, well what do you expect!?) Also never seen a MAGA hat here once, so let me remind you all, that the freedom of choice allows us to choose to wear a mask or not regardless of what is strongly encouraged by the government, and that same freedom gives you the choice to NOT come and here if you feel uncomfortable. read more

Yelpers lead us to this place and it's a winner! After stopping for gas my GPS took us through the narrow back road. Food was spot on delicious pulled pork sandwich with chili beans my husband had his with the mac and cheese. We stopped in Verdi late September there was a motorcycle club event that was going to happen at this location so we heard when we arrived. So im guessing this is why the service was very slow we spent two hours longer than we wanted here for early dinner. But it was worth the stop. read more

Stayed in a nearby RV park so took advantage of the opportunity to try Chop 40 in Verdi. Right away we liked the local, pub-like vibe. I ordered the full wedge with tri-tip, and Pamela ordered the hot wings. The wings arrived literally cold to the touch but our server dealt with that immediately and with a lot of grace. My tri-tip was delicious, chewy but not tough, full of good flavor. The house wine was decent but there is no price break for buying the whole bottle - it's just the per-glass price x 4. Overall a good experience in large part because of the friendly, helpful wait staff. Will definitely give this place another go and I look forward to it (the pizza looked amazing). read more

This was our second visit as we wanted to support local because we are from Reno and something different that Sasquatch. Both times, service was awful. Food is tasty but has come out cold, I would even take warm. Bummer to see owner on premises both times and not stepping in to help run food, drinks, etc. We wanted to spend money and buy drinks, but server couldn't manage. It was our first time at Chop 40 today. Pulling up in our side by side I was taken by the restaurant's charm. Inside the charm grew. Lunch was off the hook (I had the BBQ Bacon burger (no bun) and a side salad. My husband had the Wedge salad abd a side of fries). Meals were served in cast urin skillets. The BBQ sauce was amazing! The staff was beyond friendly! Definitely making Chop 40 a destination on future trips!!! read more

For being a place known for its meats - as our waitress told us, my ribs looked like they were on the bbq WAY past being done. The waitress even asked if she could show Chef - be my guest. He should see what was served. Shoe leather, seriously would have been easier to cut an eat. Probably more tasteful too. She asked if she could get us some dessert to make up for the BAD ribs, no thanks. Bill came an I was charged in full for my unedible ribs. She said she hoped this wouldn't stop us for coming back. Let's see... you served me very obviously OVERCOOKED ribs and had me pay for them even though more than 1/2 of my 1/2 rack was unedible. Tried Chop 40 for the first time last night. All 3 of us went for the burger (beef). The place is nice, small but plenty of charm. Our waitress I'm hoping was just new because while extremely nice, was very unorganized and obviously didn't hear two of us ask for at least medium on our burgs. Both came out medium rare (the third person didn't ask either way and hers was very medium). All that being said...the burgs were FANTASTIC!!! They don't put mayo or anything on them and don't bring it so if that's your jam, ask for it. I put their homemade 1000 island on mine and it was delish. The fries were good, could be crispier but I'm pretty hard to please fry-wise. I live about 30 mins from here but will definitely be back! read more

The setting and food are great! I'm partial to the pulled pork sandwich, but their salads and other smoked meats are terrific. Casual place with outdoor games in the nicer weather. We were so happy when a good watering hole and restaurant went into Verdi (North Reno). The menu is somewhat limited right now but they were just starting to develop their menu so I'm sure they will expanded by now. The dining area is small--about a dozen tables which makes it quaint and cozy. There is a wood burning stove in the corner that adds to the rustic ambience. The menu is chicken, steaks, burger, and salads, pizza, with some comfort food thrown in the mix. The wine by the glass menu is pretty decent too. The staff is extremely courteous. You could see they were really trying to please their customers. We'll definitely be regulars. read more

Four star review of a local spot that doesn't serve high end foodie-food, but does a great job at what it's good at. In the age of COVID, there are appropriately spaced tables on an outside deck- admittedly with a view of the road and parking lot, but comfortable and cool. Our service was great, for 3 adults one kid and a baby. The brussel sprouts with big cloves of roasted garlic were a winner for apps. My mushroom Swiss burger was amongst the best I've had locally, cooked to order with a fresh bun and onion rings courtesy of my friend's western burger (he's not an onion rings fan). You might want to ask for lettuce and tomato, as vegitables are not high on the menu here. The Chop 40 specialty dish with potatoes and " stuff" was enough for 2, easy. The pulled pork was tender and flavorful, if lacking in the spice kick I like. Sweet potato fries were great, and regular fries good, both American style salty. My stoli and tonic was reasonably priced (and just how I ordered it). The beer selection had something for everyone, with a couple of standout Deschutes and local brews, plus a British cider that made a great snakebite. So: don't expect flashy food, order carefully, and it's totally worth a visit and a return. read more

The salads and appetizers where great. They had not yet brought on the various meat chops ( as the title implies). Happy hour was a bang a rang good deal.
