Lunch with a friend. Lots of free parking since they are located in the Hawaii Kai Costco shopping center. I wasn't too hungry so just had the spring rolls. Thought they were nice and tasty. My friend had a bahn mi. She really liked it. Service was ok..

I'm so glad I decided to come try this restaurant. This particular location was always changing so it's nice to see that they've been there for some time. The space is spacious, they have lots of tables and it's an exercise for the workers. We came for an early dinner and got seated quick. I love my pho so I had to try it. Their dishes are a bit pricey but delicious. We ordered the papaya salad, a combo pho and pho with beef ball and rare steak. The broth is delicious. What I found interesting were the sauces. I'm used to seeing sriracha and hoisin sauce stationed at each table, but they were all stationed at the middle where they keep their to-go supplies. When you're seated, they bring along the bottles to leave at the table. They also didn't have any kind of chili sauce at arms reach so upon request, the server brought out a small dish of satay, more chili pepper than sauce. (I'm not sure if they make it in-house). He warned me it was spicy and he was right. I loved it. I'm definitely going to come back!

I rarely eat Vietnamese food, but I decided to try this eatery since it's located near my place. They're located in the City Mill shopping center next to Koa Pancake House and near Ross. Plenty of free parking is available in the lot. I called in my order and it was ready by the time I got there in 10 min. Upon arrival, I was surprised how nice, modern and big it was inside. I thought it was more of a fast food establishment but it's actually a nice sit down restaurant. I ordered the lemongrass chicken with spring roll on vermicelli (cold noodles). Apparently I was looking at an old menu online as I thought it was $12.50, but it was actually $18.50. I also ordered a Thai tea for $5. My total came out to $23-ish. When I gave the girl my credit card to pay, I asked if they had a to-go menu and she said, "yes, but first you have to sign off on the credit card because it asks about tip". I thought that was a strange thing to say. The food itself was good. The chicken was tasty and flavorful. The vermicelli was just your typical cold noodles, but it went well with the chicken. It also came with a side salad & dressing, which was tasty as well. Last of all, it came with a spring roll. I think it had beef inside. It was very good. I'm giving this place 4 stars since it's kind-of pricey and the girl who took my credit card was a little off-putting.

One of our go to Vietnamese since it's close not overly crowded and can find seating when it's meal time! Whether eating in or taking out it's an awesome spot! Located at Hawaii Kai town center near city mill and koa pancake house, opposite side of Costco shopping center. Lots of free parking available. Pho is always good. Vietnamese beef stew is good and comes with the option of rice noodle, egg noodle, or French bread. One of the speciality items we love, Pho dip sandwich served with jalapeños inside and a dipping bowl of pho soup!!! Another item is the house fried chicken it's so crispy on the outside and tender! Please visit them so that they stay in business!! Need some more good restaurants in Hawaii kai!!!

This is probably the best asian food you're going to get Hawaii Kai side. Not the traditional Vietnamese flavors or style but it'll get the job done. I ordered the bun Bo hue and they use pho noodles and pho brisket and tofu instead of the typical noodles, meat, and toppings for bun Bo hue. The veggies served are those typical of pho instead of bun Bo. It tastes fine but just not traditional. More a of a light sweet lemongrass flavor than the bold spicy beefy shrimpy taste I was looking for. Maybe next time will get pho and see how that is?

Look out! There might actually be somewhere good to eat in Hawaii Kai! Chopstick and Rice is the only Vietnamese restaurant in the area (since the unfortunate incident to Bale). This place is located in the Hawaii Kai Towne Center, City Mill side. The inside already feels like your typical Vietnamese restaurant with big artwork, Vietnamese decor, and etc. The artwork of Waikīkī meeting Vietnam was interesting though. Food-wise, it's pretty good compared to other places outside of Chinatown. Portion size, price, selections, and customer service weren't quite up to par. Combo Pho is always a must and it's become my barometer for Vietnamese restaurants. The broth tells the story, which was pretty good! It had good, clean, simple flavors with just a hint of spices and aromatics. The amount of noodles was much less than usual. The meats had rare steak (didn't ask if I wanted it on the side), brisket, flank, tendon, tripe, and meatball). Again, small portions. Just a few slices of steak, brisket, and flank, 1.5 meatballs, and tendons had two small pieces, and ONE piece of tripe. Steak and flank were on the tough side. But congrats to Chopstick and Rice for offering the smallest and least amount of bean sprouts, basil, and jalapeño ever. We also ordered the Lemongrass Chicken and Spring Roll Vermicelli. This was decent. The chicken was tender and light on the lemongrass flavor. The nuoc cham sauce was simple and tasty. Need more fish sauce though. We wanted to add 1 additional spring roll, so the both of us would have a piece, but somehow got duped to ordering two more as an appetizer order. The spring rolls as the appetizer alone also came with the same Vermicelli noodles and same nuoc cham sauce as the cold noodle dish, plus green leaf lettuce. This was good. Crispy rolls, tasty sauce. Wish some chili peppers were added in to the sauce. Overall, the food wasn't too bad. It was acceptable for a Vietnamese restaurant, and may be the best restaurant in Hawaii Kai. The flavors were on the tamer side, and the portions need some adjusting. You don't want to be the place that serves the absolute least amount of vegetables for Pho. The service was pretty bad. This may be due to lack of experience, but all were not attentive, and food took a while to get to our table. Even taking our order took a while. There's this one server who always bumps into chairs and tables (one was hard enough to topple over the customer's waters), and drops down your food quite hard on your table. The table behind us finished just as we arrived, and it was never cleaned when we left. Idk. Maybe the manager was on their day off? Anyway, I wouldn't mind eating here again, but the service was not acceptable.

I stopped here during lunch hour and ordered a takeout summer roll with shrimp. There were only 2 people dining in and about 3 people who picked up their phone orders before I finally received my takeout box about 15 minutes after ordering. As I was eating it in my car I could tell it had been premade a while ago because one end of the rice paper wrapper was pretty dried out and very chewy. Why did I wait 15 minutes for something that was ready made in the fridge??! The filling was fine and fresh, with the standard rice noodles, beansprouts, and shrimp sliced in half, plus basil. The peanut sauce was okay. Not sure if I'd pay $11 plus tax again for this, but considering the closest other takeout options were Costco hot dog, chicken bake, or Cane's, this is the healthiest option besides Lanikai Juice in the same complex.

Whenever we are in Hawaii Kai for a Costco run, we try to eat here! Love their pho here. Lots of meat! Don't want to complain about anything, but dang, lots of meat! Haha! Broth is super good as well. I really do like the beef stew pho. It's just so much good flavor and something different. There's usually always space to sit, which I love because I'm so impatient when I'm hungry. Staff here are always friendly and we just love this place! They have "sister" restaurants in town, but I like this place the best!

Messy Takeout, Burnt Tofu--Not the Same Anymore We usually get takeout here, and while the food itself is typically pretty good, the way they package it is not appealing at all. If I had a separate rating just for presentation, it would be 1 star--the boxes always look messy, which doesn't make you excited to dig in. This last visit was especially disappointing. Both my husband's and my dishes had burnt tofu, and instead of remaking it, they seemed to try to cover it up with tons and tons of peanuts. Not great. On top of that, you can taste the old oil in the spring rolls, which is something they didn't used to have a problem with. When we first started ordering from here a few years ago, it was solid. But lately, the quality has been slipping, and that's frustrating. I really want to love this place the way I used to, but right now it's not delivering the same level of freshness or care.

Finally had a chance to try their Pho Dip sandwich/banh mi. It is a Vietnamese French Dip. It had flavored beef and cucumber slices with a small bowl of beef pho broth for dipping. It's sweetness provides a nice take on the French dip sandwich!

Today I got to try the Lemon Grass Chicken with Tofu and it was great. It was very clear that they were short staffed, but it was great to see that the 2 servers on duty were smiling while tackling all the duties at a non stop rate and could even be said that they were moving at a faster than normal rate. But, at the same time the wait time was longer as it took longer to clear the tables and take orders and etc. Nevertheless, the overall I would rate it as a great place to dine.

Finally a moment to enjoy... I have been wanting to visit here in Hawaii Kai Towne Center home to Costco and many wonderful local biz though this location doesn't give you the beautiful water views they dishes here are just does makes you go "aahhhh!" Surprisingly the dining space here is quite spacious as I walked in I was greeted and told that I may sit anywhere, did choose a simple small table against the wall and as I gazed at the menu which I was a bit disappointed that it didn't really list what's in each particular dish though we all know basically what it consists of, a reminder at times would be nice as I do tend to forget to request taking off certain garnishes that I didn't care for. I was really thinking of Pho went with the "Vermicelli Cold Noodle" it had to be the lemongrass chicken and spring roll and gosh yes it didn't disappoint, I initially dipped my cucumber in there to sample to sauce to then there it goes pour it all over! It did come with a garnish of nuts which the server asked if I was okay with which was nice and also green onion and I assume some fried onions as well which gave it a nice crunch. The noodle pull wasn't as phenomenal at it was all broken and made it quite difficult to pick up and eat wondering if that was the intention though I really didn't care for much of that. Chicken was flavorful along with the crunchy spring roll this bowl of yumminess gave me the energy I needed to get through my day. Thank you!

We've passed by this place a bunch of times but never went in. Well, I'm glad we finally did. Especially since Pho Time Niu Valley has closed now :( RIP I saw Pho Dip on the "specials" menu and asked about it - killed 2 birds since I love a good banh mi, but wanted to taste the pho. I'm more of the broth person, not the noodle person anyway (is that just me?). Anyway, it's funny it was written on the specials board, because it's on the regular menu. But I liked it, so that's a good thing! Flavors are ON POINT. That sandwich was so good! Made possible of course, by the tasty pho broth! You know what I hate? When a pho restaurant serves sorta-hot pho. Esp if there's rare/raw beef in the bowl. How is it gonna properly cook? Not Chopstick and Rice! Those bowls were steaming hotttttt, thank you! Others also ordered the vermicelli with spring roll and bbq pork, yum! And a side order of spring rolls because just one was not enough. Tons of free parking at HK Towne Center. Even better that it's on the opposite end from Costco, so much less crowded. The restaurant is large, I'm sure it fills up at dinner time. Nice bright and clean space. Our service was pretty quick, but I see others have reported that wasn't the case for them. Will go back for the taste alone, though! Hmm, I'm getting hungry...

Covid era review: This restaurant is a nice addition to the Town center at Hawai'i Kai and it has many positives! First off, it is very clean and spacious inside as the tables are widely separated to accommodate physical distancing guidelines for Covid. We were greeted right away and seated quickly, with a menu. Someone checked for our vaccine card and ID immediately and had us fill out a contact tracing sheet. The food is good - we had a plain pho (beef broth, noodles, veggies, but no meat), a spring roll and lemongrass chicken Vermicelli, and their House fried chicken for the two of us. Good choices! Pho: broth is a bit on the sweet side but very flavorful, but not hot enough for me. I like when it is steaming as it comes out of the kitchen, and cooks all of the bean sprouts and basil that you add in. Plain pho: $11 Vermicelli: very tasty, good portions, nice lemongrass taste in the chicken and tasty fish sauce to go with it. Typical fare. House fried chicken: imagine deep fried crispy chicken with lemongrass and garlic! Mouth watering yet? It was good - I could probably have been happy with rice and the fried chicken - and would have gone home happy! They are working out the kinks in their service - some hiccups like the wrong food being delivered to our table and other service issues that were minor. We'll be back next to try the banh mi sliders - sounded intriguing but we were too full and I also saw several tables ordering the Vietnamese coffee. Looked delish and great presentation. read more

The cleanest Vietnamese restaurant I've been to outside of Tōkyō and Seoul. The food was on the healthier side and really hit the spot. I was thankful to be able to enjoy Vietnamese food in a more polished environment with fresher ingredients and cleaner ambience. I'd definitely put this spot in a weekly rotation if it were located a bit closer to home. Definitely give this spot a try - there's more to enjoy than the usual noodle and rice dishes. read more

Good vermicelli bowl that's tasty and a decent size! Order the grilled tofu because it's BOMB! The service was good. Our waitress was friendly and we always had enough water. Our food didn't take too long to come out and everything tasted very good. Slightly pricy but decent food! Inside has a lot of seating and there's lots of natural light. There's 1 family restroom in the back. Overall, okay experience. Not 100% sure if it's worth the price but I did enjoy my food. read more

Earlier I just walked in and it was empty and there's 4 workers in the front on there phone. I just get stared at as I walk in no greeting.. just feeling judged‍ it was so awkward and they got so silent so I ask are u guys open?. Bc it was so quiet and they didn't say a word.. Location hawaii kai First time customer. I ordered fried chicken, shrimp bowl, and pork spring rolls. As I was waiting for the food I went to the bathroom and I wish I went to the bathroom before ordering because if the kitchen looks anything like the bathroom, DISGUSTING! The pork spring rolls came first and they come cut in half but when I tried separating it I thought the glass noodles were keeping them from separating but when I finally pulled it apart and looked closer it was a strip of clear plastic! They took my plate and brought me a new plate, but they didn't offer to comp that plate. The shrimp bowl was good but the fried chicken I didn't care for the flavor and I won't ear their again and don't think this place should have the rating that it does. read more

Excellent late lunch. I was craving the papaya salad and found this new place in my neighborhood on Yelp. I noticed that the fried chicken was a favorite so I had to try it. Amazing! Crispy, crunchy outside and tender, juicy inside. Seasoned perfectly. The owner/chef/manager(?) noticed that I liked hot sauce and brought me a side of their house spicy sauce. OMG! So flavorful. He shared his favorite way to eat it with the fried chicken and all of the dishes. All I can say is that I had the most flavorful, well prepared meal. The service was attentive without being intrusive. Very clean, good energy. read more

Went there with a couple of my friends and had read reviews from other people who said that their fried chicken is amazing, so that's what I ordered. They give a generous amount and it was amazing. If I go back there, I think I'll get the same thing! Our waitress was friendly and service was good. It's conveniently located in the same area as Hawaii Kai Costco, so you could do your grocery shopping after you eat. read more

The place is fine. Had the combo pho and summer rolls. The place was crowded for weeknight at 8:00 and it's been around for a while so there must be regulars. Maybe we haven't tried enough of their menu to be a big fan. read more

I ordered my typical collagen fix - pho with brisket, tendon and tripe and was very pleased with presentation, taste, knife skills ( toppings cut aesthetically) and availability of my favorite condiments (not on table) a superior garlic chili sauce and pepper. It was the best pho experience I've had with the aid of clean pleasant surroundings and the noodles were not mushy at all. read more

This place ain't that bad at all. I got the spring rolls and the rare pho. First the spring rolls came out pipping HOT! and crispy, not too oily nor too soggy either. Just right, and it even came with a small side of that white noodles that goes well once in the side sauce. The pho it self, wowza for 15 buckarooooos you do get a fair amount, so I am not going to fuss. was really full. But it was like 85% broth and 10 % noodles and 5 % veggies floating around. Literally the noodles will disappear after a couple of bites. The broth itself, not the best, but not the worse. It was very light just by looking at it, but its nothing like the worse dam place I ever had pho at, so I aint gonna fuss. Overall, pretty good. Just be warned, as of December 26 2022, the AC is busted so lol otherwise it is okay! :) read more

Pa and I were on our own for dinner last night, so I found this place. Easy to order online. Received updates on the status of my order. Got the fried chicken plate cause I read so many reviews raving about it. It was good but not nearly the best fried chicken ever that some claimed. They did give a lot of chicken which was nice. The lemongrassy taste of the chicken took a few bites to adjust to. I wish the plate had come with more rice. I wouldn't get the chicken again, but if it were at a potluck I'd totally eat it. My pa seemed to enjoy his shrimp plate. read more

This is our go to pho spot in Hawaii Kai, generous portion, however they have a smaller menu... I wish they had fried rice, or Vietnamese crepes and more healthier vegetarian options. Quick service, lots of tables available whenever we visit. read more

Food: The house fried chicken is honestly some of the best fried chicken I've ever tasted (from a Vietnamese restaurant). You can get it as an appetizer or a rice plate. The brisket pho is also so good; the broth is good and the brisket is so soft. The lemon grass chicken and tofu rice plate is also so so good and simple. It definitely tastes even better when dining in. I don't care too much for the pork spring rolls because they're too meaty, but my boyfriend likes it. Service: Service is always pretty good. Workers seem like they're friends, but I love the vibe. They're always respectful and prompt on customer needs. Just give it a try (dine in)! Trust me, I've had lots of Vietnamese foods in my life, and this is one of the places my boyfriend and I frequent. read more

Great Customer Service ! The Owner apologized for the wrong order placed and took it off the bill. We go there a lot and eat there quite often. Fast service..I went there with family we all ordered individually but shared with each other.. ordered the papaya salad which was large but I really liked the spring rolls which were ordered by another person overall the food was ordered inside but eaten at home since the restaurant is not too far away..not bad prices, quick service read more

So far, I have tried the pho and vermicelli bowls, both of which are quite delicious. Their fried spring rolls are especially good and come either as an appetizer or as part of the vermicelli bowl entrees. Portions are good and prices are reasonable! This is now my go-to restaurant when I'm craving Vietnamese close to home. Food is awesome. But the way that the staff seats people is ridiculous. They "Reserve" larger tables that seat 6. On more than one occasion, we have gone there with 3-4 people and all of the smaller tables were full. NONE of the large tables were being used and we were told that we would have to wait to sit in the smaller tables (1-4 people) I asked if we could sit at a large table, they said no because they reserve them for larger parties. Tonight, we went with 5 people. All of the large tables were full. Some of the large tables that were being used had only 2 or 3 people sitting at them. Four smaller tables that sit 1-4 people were open and not being used. We were told to wait for a large table to open up. I asked if we could sit there, or even move tables together. They said no and blamed it on the owner, "Hong". We watched 4 seperate groups all be seated at the smaller tables before us, while we waited for a large table. It seems that we can't sit with large groups, But we can't sit with small groups either. Been watching the construction of this new eatery in the old 808Tex space. The dining room is all brand new with a airy bright decor. Tables are nicely spread out in clusters of 4. They have a variety of pho, rice plates and vietnamese specialties. The prices are all fairly reasonable from about $12.50 to $13.50 for specialties. Popped by this relatively recently opened spot on a Monday evening with a group of 4 for dinner. We loved the friendly and attentive staff, bright clean atmosphere, and delicious food with fresh ingredients. We really did enjoy everything we tried, which included the papaya salad, the summer rolls, the fried chicken, and the pho. Hard-pressed to pick a favorite because they were all so tasty, but if forced to choose, I think the light but flavorful broth from the pho made it my favorite. My one negative was that I asked for the sliced steak to be brought out raw so I could cook it in the pho broth, but that was forgotten or overlooked by the kitchen team. Grand opening for a new restaurant in Hawaii Kai. We loved it. We had the spring rolls, seafood pho, and pork chop tofu. All were so good, especially the spring rolls! The pho had a nice rich flavor. Yayyyy finally some tasty Pho in East Honolulu! We came in close to closing time to grab a quick dinner after a busy day and I was soo impressed. This place is so clean, spotless inside. The employees are quick, kind and helpful. The Pho is hands down the best I have had in East Honolulu especially for the price and great portions. I was most impressed by the plate of pho garnish. Sometimes I go places and the bean sprouts and Thai basil leaves look dirty or a bit weathered. The garnish plate here looked impeccable! Even close to closing time the quality, freshness, and cleanliness did not falter. We got the chicken and steak pho- both delicious. we're hardly on this side of the island but decided to try something new and it was a great find! The restuarant was super clean/modern and the wait staff was very polite. Our favorite was the banh mi sliders! The pho had a clean broth and the beef stew was surprisingly light for its rich appearance. The beef itself was very soft and easy to eat. This is my go to sit down place to eat with my bff when I'm in Hawaii Kai. A/C is always nice and cool with lots of seating. The interior is nice and clean. Well, the Monkeypod Kitchen Mai Tai is that "song" for me. No matter how many months pass between trips to Hawaii, it's the one thing I'm always craving. First stop after our five plus hour flight is to always sit at the bar and hum my way through a Mai Tai. We've tried competitors' Mai Tais, but Monkeypod has THE BEST Mai Tai on the island (possibly the country)! It contains a double shot of rum, so pace yourself if you're a lightweight. What makes this extraordinary is the lilikoi (passion fruit) foam on the top. It's the reason I am "passion"ately in love with this cocktail. We've eaten at a table in their main dining room, however, we really enjoy bar seating during Happy Hour, which is from 3:30pm-5:00pm, daily (except select holidays) and again from 9:00pm-11:00pm. It is first come first serve at the bar. If you prefer table seating, be sure to make a reservation. The wait can be long without one. Their Happy Hour items include all of their appetizers at half price, excluding any seafood. Cocktails are $4 off, beers $2 off, wine by the glass $3 off and the pizzas (excluding the Bourgeois) are $17. All of the items we've tried are super delicious and the bartenders are all very friendly and professional. They also provide live music daily, at 12:30pm, 3:30pm and 7:30pm. Live music always adds such a refreshing and lively atmosphere, perfect for those vacationing vibes. Come for the sounds of the ocean waves, spectacular views, live music and of course, their fabulous Mai Tais. * Check their website for current Happy Hour menu items and pricing, as well as current live music times, as they may change periodically.

The loco moco was on the drier side while the seafood platter offered a decent variety of different seafoods which my mom really enjoyed. The calamari appetizer was perfectly breaded and we all loved it! I enjoyed the ahi tuna but I wish there was more flavor to the fish. The fish was nicely cooked and a paired well with the rice and salad. Since we walked to this restaurant, I didn't get a chance to see where parking was but I assume hotel parking is used for this establishment.

We have dined here several times with great service and food. Tonight however was a little disappointing. Our appetizers were served promptly as usual. As we were partaking on our appetizer of tofu winter roll, the restaurant started to fill up with other diners. Also noticed the takeout orders being filled constantly with patrons coming and going. The winter tofu rolls were enjoyed until we finished them. Then waited for our chicken pho and pork chop rice order while we saw the other diners (who arrived after us) getting their orders. As some of the diners started leave and more arrived, our waiter apologized for the delay. After about 25 minutes our order was served. As usual the chicken pho dish was great, the pork chop was also tasty but couldn't figure out how they were able to cut the pork chop so thin. Apparently this was a very busy night even though we arrived early. The servers were constantly busy with takeouts and dine-ins. Perhaps our experience will better the next time we do enjoy their food! read more

Spacious, clean and the food...is totally on point. Granted this is the 5th Vietnamese restaurant east of Aina Haina, in my opinion it is hands down my go to now. They are still settling in to their routine and have had hiccups but this should eventually be resolved as the weeks go by. We had spring & summer rolls, combo pho with the works including tendon and tripe and an order of fried chicken after seeing it pass by ordered from another table. Portions are generous, the pho soup is a little on the sweet side which is fine with me. Give them a chance, leave your expectations in the car and you can decide for yourself. Open 11am to 9pm daily... Plus is they have their own restroom which is hard to come by these days...especially for those of us with elderly parents or children. Currently BYOB! Came in again to try something different and new besides our usual. Vietnamese beef stew with noodles. Almost the same flavor as the Chinese beef stew with less star anise flavor. Broth was light and slightly clear and clean. It came with all the goodies (bean sprouts, basil, lemon, and sliced hot peppers. Beef was cut into nice bite size pieces. We ordered the golden roll with noodles this time instead of the side order. Still fresh, not oily and crunchy. Pros: Fast service. Was sat promptly. Cons: Still no sweet chili sauce. Some how I don't remember the bowl for my pho was deep. It was hard to scoop out soup with my soup spoon. Would I return? Yes. But got to bring my own sweet chili sauce. read more
