We went here as a work outing a few years ago and it was so good. Over the years I've visited a handful of times. There are a few dishes I like when I get Chinese food, and I seem to have developed a liking for the tastes at one restaurant over another. I had been craving sweet and sour chicken this past week, so I decided to stop in here Saturday. When I looked the menu up online, it says the "lunch menu" begins at noon. My little and I were finishing up his swim class and I decided to kill some time at Buy Buy Baby, then, when the clock struck noon, I moseyed on over to The Chopstick House and placed my order. I would have called, but I didn't have an actual menu in front of me and didn't want my order to get confusing, since I was ordering for myself and hubs. So, little man and I get out and go inside, where the temperature must have been 95-100 degrees. I realize it was warm and we got a bit of a heat wave, but man oh man, get some fans going in there. I order the items I would like and the items hubs would like and get ready to pay and the gentleman informs me that if I pay by cash, I get 3% off. I thought this was cool. I paid with credit card anyways, but it was good to know for the future. He said it's because the CC machine charges them 3% per transaction, so if they don't have to use it, they pass the savings on to the customer. They have a medium size aquarium, with clownfish, a pufferfish and other tropical fish and my little man sat on the bench and watched them. It's pretty. Our food came up pretty quickly, maybe 10-15 minutes. And it was wrapped up all secure in a plastic bag. And we went home to eat. When I got home, we opened up our food and everything was just right. I ordered the lunch option for sweet and sour chicken, which comes with wonton soup (my choice), spring roll (my choice) fried rice (my choice) and the tempura battered chicken and some veggies and the sweet and sour sauce on the side. Hubs got the lunch portion of sesame chicken, which came with egg drop soup (his choice), spring roll (his choice), fried rice (his choice) and the sesame chicken, which had a bit of a kick to it. All of it was very good and put together nicely. And very affordable, at $16 for all that food, not bad. read more

I've been a patron of Chopstick House pretty muck since they opened. Many a great meal was had from them both as take-out and in the restaurant. Birthday meals, family celebration, or just to fulfill a craving for Chinese food. Was definitely my favorite. Hence my dismay at their obvious decline. The last several meals over the past 8 months or so have been disappointing - but, as with a misbehaving child, you always give just one more chance. That ended this week. Having a large family, we spend well over $100 per order. This dinner, a carry-out order, was so disappointing. The fried rice was burnt - inexcusable because the burnt odor was obvious, yet they served it anyway. The spring rolls were tough with little filling. The crab Rangoon was all cream cheese - doubt a crab was ever anywhere near it. Sweet and sour shrimp was more like pancake dumplings - so much batter! The hot and sour soup was cold and almost flavorless. The general's chicken and orange chicken were tough. And the beef in whatever my daughter had was slimy with flour. That's it, Chopstick House - we're done with you. I don't know if you've changed management, cook staff, or have just become complacent with your success. What I do know is that the Chopstick House we enjoyed over so many years is no more. read more

Walked in to see they have recently remodeled, replacing the aquarium full of dead fish with scarred wallpaper instead. The host quickly put his cell phone away then showed us to our table. I ordered beef with broccoli with fried rice. Our waiter brought us some weird tempura chips with duck sauce, presumably because he knew it would take 30 minutes to get us our meal even though there were only three tables with customers. When the food arrived, it tasted old and the meat had slimy texture. I thought nothing of it and finished my dinner. My fortune cookie said "An alien of some sort will be appearing to you shortly!" That alien arrived three hours later in a deluge of sour vomit, followed by a night full of the most liquid diarrhea I have ever experienced in my life. Would not recommend, unless you are trying to find a loophole to Michigan assisted suicide laws. read more

Worst customer service I've ever experienced. First, they charged me extra for extra egg in fried rice but put NO egg in it. Then they forgot part of my order (which has happened almost every other time I've ordered from here) and when I called to tell the lady, she argued with me for 5 minutes trying to tell me that I was lying!! Unbelievable! I wasn't asking for any freebies or anything like that... So why would I just call and lie about my order? And what happened to "the customer is always right"?? I waitressed for years... So it takes A LOT to get me upset about restaurants/service... But this woman was so rude that I actually just now downloaded the Yelp app so that I could vent about this ridiculous experience. Go to Chin Express, Szechuan, or anywhere else instead! read more

This is by far the best Chinese restaurant in canton. I love the lunch special. It's a great deal. The Hunan black bean sauce is amazing.

This place will charge you extra if you use a credit card. They won't tell you but there is a sign posted. Credit cards are part of doing business. Don't charge customers extra! I'll pass and take my business to Szechuan on Ford Road. read more

The five star reviews on here have to be fake. The staff were friendly and all smiley, likely because they knew they were handing us a bag of hot garbage. The pork dumplings were decent, so I was looking forward to my General Tso chicken. Boy was I in for a surprise! First off it was spicy AF (got medium). The texture of the chicken was as if they put a bunch of scrap chicken and bone into a crappy blender and then deep fried balls of it. I was unsure if I even wanted to swallow what was my first and last bite. You could hardly call it food and one good wiff of it hits your gag reflex like a Mac truck. I can't believe I gave them real money for this. Stay away. You have been warned. read more

We just ordered from chop stix house for the first time in 3 years....the reason we stopped 3 years ago was they always leave out something in the order....we called they are exteamly rude and laughed when we said they forgot something....so we just ordered again the delivery came and yes they forgot the steamed dumplings but we got the extra dumpling sauce and they charged us for it... we called and we were going to order another meal and we said that they forgot our dumplings....the lady was extreamly rude and argumentative so therefore we will never order from that place again gave it another chance but due to them being rude laughing at us and not knowing how to properly fill an order I would never ever suggest this restaurant to anybody and we Chinese food four times a week go to Chin Express if u want good food and to be treated good instead of chop shit house.... read more

Alright, so with a name like "Chopstick House", I wasn't exactly expecting anything too authentic. You know the rules--hard-to-pronounce Chinese name or a random, inexplicable number points to authenticity, right? But my dad ate here a few weeks previous and said it was "pretty good" (which is high praise from my dad), and the husband, who is Caucasian-American, developed a sudden craving for American Chinese food. We agreed to stop by this place on the way home from work and pick something up to take back with us. We had our baby with us, and I wanted to make sure she didn't go into full hungry/tired meltdown at a restaurant. Once we got to the restaurant though, hubby suddenly decided that he wanted to dine in instead of take-out. What? But... Before I could remind him of the baby, we were already seated. High chairs here are sticky, as they are everywhere else. The husband ordered his sesame pork, and I decided on the beef noodle soup, which was posted as a special on the sign at the door. I knew it was a gamble--real, authentic Chinese (or Taiwanese) beef noodle soup is rich, filling, and amazing. But I've definitely had it at less authentic joints (lookin' at you, Lucky Kitchen in Ann Arbor!) where the noodles are literally overcooked spaghetti and the beef is not braised or seasoned well enough, resulting in chunks of tough bleh. But I was hungry, and if we were going to eat here, I was going to order something that I might actually enjoy. We received our tea, put in our order, and waited... and waited. I should come with a warning label that says "Caution! Subject May Be Very Hangry". I am usually peckish for about an hour, then straight up hungry for 30 minutes, and everything between then and the arrival of food is straight up hangriness. I think we were waiting for our food for maybe 20-25 minutes (nothing too ridiculous compared to some other waits we've endured--I'm lookin' at you, Yee Siang Dumpling!) while I became increasingly cranky at my husband and the baby got bored with her Cheerios, when the waitresses noticed my overall grumpiness and came over to apologize for the wait and explained that the beef noodle soup took longer to make. Deep sigh. Wish they had put that warning on the specials menu, but alas. A minute or two later, hubby's sesame pork arrived, and I picked at it (baby got some broccoli to play with/eat) while waiting for my food to arrive. At least they had the good sense to bring the dishes separately. There are restaurants that make you wait until ALL the food is ready before bringing it to the table, even when you're eating it family style, and these restaurants have a special place in hell. The sesame pork is definitely an American Chinese-type creation, but well executed. The pork was very lightly breaded and fried so that it was not overwhelmingly greasy. The sauce is definitely on the sweet side, which I liked fine but hubby was ambivalent about. The dish also comes with some tender-crisp veggies--the aforementioned broccoli, some sliced bell pepper, and mushrooms. A little bowl of rice accompanies. The pork was pretty much gone by the time my beef noodle soup arrived. The waitress apologized profusely for the wait, and I assured her that I understood that some dishes just take a little longer to prepare. The important part: The noodles were WORTH IT. No limp spaghetti here! Good, flavorful broth, generous chunks of perfectly braised beef (you want the connective tissue to be melt-in-your-mouth tender, and that's what you get here), on-point seasoning, and thin soup noodles to sop up all that broth. This bowl of noodles, rated on its own, is five stars. As I said before, this place seems to do mainly American Chinese food, though it also seems to do it well. But when I come back, it will probably be for those beef noodles, and I'll be happy to wait for them. read more

I tried this for the first time tonight. They deliver, so that was the first plus. I had the chicken with hot peppers and peanuts, and the vegetarian's delight. The chicken was requested as very spicy and while it packed some heat, it wasn't quite as hot as I would have liked. No fault on their part, just a high heat tolerance on my part. We have been regular customers here but this evening's experience makes it our last time. I do not know if they have changed hands, a bad day in the kitchen or inexperienced wait staff. Two of us ordered soups and the "Sampler" appetizer. The waitress did try to explain but not very well, that the appetizer will take some time. We told her we had the time. The soups arrived and were good, however the wonton chips were stale and in crumbs. When we asked for fresh ones, she tried to tell us the chips were fine. After insisting, she did bring us a bag of wontons from the carry out items. In the meantime another person decided to join us and asked that we order the sesame beef. That was also a bit of a challenge for the waitress to understand the request. The "Sampler" appetizer arrived. The ribs were dry and tough and the batter on the fantail shrimp was still gooey. We told the waitress about the shrimp and requested replacements. She brings out another person to look at the shrimp that doesn't really seem to know what to do and is making excuses for the flour used in the batter. She returns some time later with no shrimp and once again gives excuses. Since we did not receive all the food we had ordered we requested an adjustment in the bill. The bill arrives with no adjustment. The second person is also handling the cash register and when asked about the adjustment she said it wasn't applied yet - they will give $3.00 off. I said I didn't think that was sufficient and again I heard the excuses about the flour. Then I had to ask about the 3% discount for paying in cash. This is my favorite place to get delivery around here. The food's pretty good and I've never had something I didn't like. Is it the best Chinese food ever? No, but it's good enough to days when you just want Chinese. And they deliver pretty fast and my order has never been wrong, which is huge praise. Personally I love their beef and broccoli and dumplings. They also have scallion pancakes which can be hard to find so that's always a plus. read more

Picked up dinner with a friend (I ordered hunan chicken, veggie fried rice with no MSG, and hot and sour soup - she got sweet and sour chicken with brown rice and wonton soup). Both the hunan chicken and fried rice were pretty good, she was disappointed with her sweet and sour chicken. I didn't particularly like the hot and sour soup - there was just something off about it, and the crispy noodles we got with our meals were pretty stale. This is a great restaurant. As many reviewers have already pointed out, the wait staff is always very friendly and attentive. Now for the food--it is consistently great! I absolutely looovvvee Hunan Chicken, and Chopstick House has mastered the dish. I ordered it the first time I went there, and I'm hooked. I haven't had the heart to order anything else when I go there. I also have to say that they have excellent hot and sour soup--my other favorite Asian food staple. If you're vegetarian or vegan don't waste your time. While they say they accommodate, they do NOT for lunch. While they have vegetarian options, you must buy the dinner or you're out of luck, and they could care less. Go somewhere else if you don't like it, is their attitude. So while people eating chicken, seafood, beef or pork can get lunch portions and prices, if you want a vegetarian or vegan meal, you get to pay 2 to 3x more and get a full dinner portion with no soup or sides. The manager couldn't even be bothered to come explain this, the poor waitress had to deal with it. Poor customer service, mediocre, buffet quality food, and with all the construction going on, tools and filth are in the dining room with you. There's another place, under a mile away on Lilly called Best China that was very accommodating, and excellent. There's a number of Chinese restaurants in Canton, so don't fall for Chopstick House's false claims that they care about customers needs. My entire workforce, numbering just over 20, are boycotting this place as well now. read more

Went to this restaurant based on the positive reviews and should have stayed home. First let me mention that when I went there this place was not busy yet the waitress took approximately 10 minutes in bringing me my glass of water. The beef fried rice I ordered was over cooked and hard and the beef was cut into square pieces which was odd and also flavorless. The rice and peas in the rice were also overcooked and hard. The waitress never came to ask how was everything nor did she ever re-fill my glass of water. Although I did observe she was more overly concerned about people leaving and collecting her tip. I have been to the Orient before while in the Armed Forces, (Taiwan and Shanghai), and know what Chinese food should taste like. My friend had the Kung Pao Chicken which mostly consisted of peanuts and white rice with very little non- spicy flavorless chicken pieces This place is not worth the time nor the money. Highly overrated by those who have no knowledge of what good Chinese food should taste like. read more

I was so excited to eat here because of the great reviews. I ordered steamed potstickers and sweet and sour chicken. How can you go wrong? The potstickers were okay but tasted a little raw and were soggy. The white rice was boring. There was barely any vegetables. I think I had one chopped green pepper and two slivers of carrots and I believe I recognized a piece of onion. The chicken was disgusting! It was so overcooked that it was burned in some spots and barely edible. It was more like chicken jerky. I could not even cut it with a knife. It was like it was leftover chicken that they refried. I could not chew and had to drink tons of water just to swallow a piece. The sauce was okay but lacked spice , almost as if it came out of a can. For the cost, it was not worth it. Way over priced and you dont even get an egg roll with it. This was my first try at Chinese here in Canton and as I lay here feeling sick to my stomach, I won't be returning. read more

I would really rate it more like a 3.5/5, but since that's not an option I rounded up. The place looks very nice inside. I don't really care much about atmosphere when I'm eating out, I'm there for the food, but the atmosphere is really nice inside. I got carry out anyway though. The staff was friendly and the food was ready pretty quickly. Prices are decent for the amount of food. The egg drop soup was pretty standard although it could have used some scallions and a little white pepper for some more flavor. I ordered the Chicken with Spicy Tea Sauce for the entree, I asked them to make it extra spicy. It wasn't really spicy at all for my tastes, but I'm used to that. That happens at every ethnic restaurant. I just add a little 7 pot powder and that takes care of it without changing the flavor too much. The entree came with snow peas, baby corn, straw mushrooms, broccoli, carrots, red bell peppers, onions, and water chestnuts along with the chicken. Not my favorite group of vegetables but at least there were a lot of vegetables which I like. The chicken was very tender and perfectly cooked. The tea sauce had a nice flavor but it was a little on the thin side and the flavor was a little diluted, particularly after putting it over rice. I would have preferred a thicker, more concentrated sauce. The entree wasn't bad overall, but I'm not sure I would order it again. I also got fried dumplings which were good, a little better tasting than your average fried dumplings. This place seems to be a notch above your average Chinese-American restaurant in terms of freshness and quality of the food, though I would like to try some other things. It's difficult to judge just based on a few items. My problem at Chinese-American restaurants is that I usually find it difficult to find a middle ground between the greasy, syrupy, highly Americanized dishes and the more bland ones. read more
