Came for a bachelorette party of like 15-20 girls! Of course, there was a reservation. I'd mostly say this was more of a 'pretty' place and I didn't know how much I'd love the food but it was actually quite good! Had a little bit of everything for everyone. Also Thai food? But the drinks were fine, service was fine, food was good, decorations were very pretty. Just remember that it's SF so there's no parking haha

Honestly pretty disappointing - aside from the cute decor, I don't think anyone from my group actually liked the food. Prices were pretty average for brunch - about $20+ per plate, but tell me why the cocktails were also $15-$20... Regardless, I had the Fried Chicken Benedict. The roasted potatoes it came with were decent and the egg was perfectly poached, but that was about the extent of it. The sauce it was served with was completely devoid of flavor and everything was sauced up so it all just ended up tasting kind of bland. My friends who ordered the Fried French Toast said it was overly sweet. Really wanted to like this place a lot more but honestly it seems to care way more about presentation than it does the actual quality...

After attending an event at City Hall, we needed a place for a group lunch for about ten people. Son and Garden was a great place for that. It was close (within walking distance) and we were able to make reservations in advance. We visited around 11am on a Wednesday. The food was good, although we did see on the menu that its states "Substitutions or modifications are politely declined". We didn't try asking for any, but usually prefer restaurants that are more accommodating. Some of the menu offerings are a really creative twist on traditional dishes. The Bibimbap, for example, has a big piece of fried chicken. The grilled chicken salad is presented in a crispy shell made of fried parmesan cheese. Parking in this area is tight. If you visit, you should use rideshare.

Son & Garden is one of the most Instagrammable restaurants I've been to! Right as you walk in, you are greeted with a neon sign with flowers as the backdrop. Then, as you walk in, you can see that the ceilings and the decorations are all so vibrant and beautiful. We were there for the Alice in Wonderland afternoon tea experience. Besides the decoration, I feel like the food and the tea were quite average for the price we paid! We paid nearly $80 per person. We were full at the end but the desserts and the sandwiches were just average. My favorite was the warm scones. I like the berries in the scones and how fluffy they are. I think the afternoon tea expensive price doesn't justify the mediocre food quality. I have only been here for the afternoon tea experience. The food quality to price ratio might be different for their other brunch food. I did see that a lot of people were there for the afternoon tea experience.

I finally got the chance to check out Son and Garden after seeing it all over social media for the longest! We came in on a Monday with a group of 7 people. It wasn't busy and they were able to seat us right away! The restaurant is so pretty and filled with beautiful artificial flowers all over the walls and ceiling. There is even a cute photo op with a ring light for you to snap some pics! I'd say they have an extensive brunch menu which focuses on Asian-American fusion. Everyone in my group enjoyed their food and the service was wonderful. Our water glasses were filled right away and they checked in on us frequently, providing us with extra items that we needed.

Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Portion to Price: 3/5 Overall: An instagram worthy establishment. The extended review... Food: Deep fried French toast - 3/5 - Definitely a specialty that most places do not have. In ranks standard fare amongst others I've had. Kudos for the plating work. Service: 3/5 - Friendly staff. Ambiance: 4/5 - Quite the nice interior and it's totally decked out. Portion to Price: 3/5 - Pricing is a little on the steeper side but there are definitely many elements to the plate

Not worth the hype and only good for cute decor. I went for brunch with two friends, so we each got a drink and then three plates to share. Our check totaled to $127 and personally, did not think it was worth it. Each of us got different drinks and didn't like them. I got the tiramisu latte which tasted nothing like tiramisu and was overall not good. The matcha wasn't very strong and the beet latte had espresso (which I guess usually isn't included). We ordered the volcano pancakes, the ube mochi pancakes, and the short rib omurice. I would say the volcano pancakes are the only worthwhile item to order. The liquid chocolate wasn't too sweet and the pancakes were well cooked. The ube pancakes were pretty starchy and didn't have a strong ube flavor. For the short rib omurice, we thought the meat was really flavorful and tender, however, the rice was just white rice instead of the usual seasoned fried rice. Maybe their afternoon tea is better since I saw multiple people getting that, but this is my second time visiting and I would not recommend it.

Some type of Matcha drink... I think we can agree that it was pretty and my niece said it was good

This is a little bit of a tough one. The food was pretty good and it was cute inside. The staff was friendly, too. It's absolutely not the best neighborhood, right in the middle of the tenderloin, but we knew that going in. Plus, we got to see a naked person walking around outside our window. Good times. That said, as long as you're OK with not being in the best neighborhood, it was a pretty enjoyable experience. We all tried different things from French toast to the garden omelette. We had a party at seven, and from the first person being served to the last person being served their food, it was at least 30 minutes. It was crowded because it was a New Year's, and it's tough to get a brunch reservation when a lot of the other restaurants are closed, but they really need to work on their timing. I got the garden omelette and it was OK, but this potatoes and scone that it came with were really delicious. My boyfriend got a crab omelette that looked pretty good but I did not have a bite. Everybody else seemed to like their food. The drinks were really pretty and served and adorable cups. I ordered a hot tea and it came in a darling tea pot with a matching teacup. It was very fun and instagrammable. The food was good, not amazing, but definitely good. I'm not sure if their reservation policy was just for New Year's Day or if it's always pretty strict, but it was a 48 hour cancellation with a credit card. I think it was $25 per person if you didn't show up. Kind of a bummer because we forgot we had free breakfast at our hotel and we had booked it 48 hours in advance so there was no chance to cancel it. It was still fun and enjoyable and yummy.

I went to the Menlo Park location for my 40th birthday and this SF location for my 42nd birthday. It all lives up to the hype! Flower decorations, fancy and fun glassware, yummy food and good service. IG worthy pics of decor and food that will also please the palette. Made a reservation for a Sunday morning and we were sat right away. I got the ricotta pancakes this time and they were delicious. Maybe I'll be back in 2 more years :)

Food (5/5): One of my favorite brunch spots in SF! Love their Asian-themed dishes especially -- the Matcha Souffle Pancakes are my personal favorite, but everything we ordered was delicious! Seriously don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu Ambiance (5/5): A bit cramped and noisy for sure, but it's very unique! They curated a really fun and whimsical atmosphere with tons of different colors and fun decorations Value (4/5): The prices are very reasonable for what you get. Portions are pretty generous too, and quality is definitely there. Overall: This is definitely a brunch spot that I'd recommend to friends and will definitely be coming back to!

This is my first time at this location, I have been to other son & garden's before. Compared to the Menlo Park location, I was pleasantly surprised about this location. There were a few more "photo" spots. I also think the menu differed a bit . We came as a group and tried a variety of their alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. We were really impressed with how the drinks looked and tasted. We got a different variety of food including Benedict's, burgers, ube pancakes and we enjoyed all of them thoroughly. I will definitely be back to this location!

    Crispy Pork Belly Ranchero

Wanted to try this place a while ago but could finally made it on a... dinner. The interior decoration was lovely but the space was a bit dim. Yet the food was pretty impressive! The pork belly's sauce was quite spectacular (tangy & sweet), complimenting just an okay pork belly. Carbonara was quite okay (needs more protein portion) yet the sauce was balanced/plenty to dip with the bread. Prawn risotto was interesting but could become salty later if not finishing hot. Overall I would still come back for maybe brunch or afternoon tea!

Ask the Community - Son & Garden

If we make a 1 or 1:30pm reservation (for Bridgerton Tea Experience) are we able to stay past 2pm (when the restaurant closes) to finish our afternoon tea?

Yes, you're. The staff is very friendly and flexible. When we visited it wasn't too crowded and they didn't rush us after the 2 hour tea time was over.

Is the dinner menu available on lunch time?

Not during team time but maybe after the tea time.

It's ok to take my wife and my baby to this restaurant?

This is a casual restaurant. You should be fine with a baby.

Is this a fun place for brunch or more casual, is there good music playing?

It's both and definitely welcoming for a celebration. They play music but just in the background.

What is the turnaround time for a response time from the restaurant for booking a reservation for 20-25 people? Has anyone ever booked here would you recommend me booking here or try somewhere else?

I highly recommend to call in advance since you have a big party. They are very good in answering back.

How much is the Cherry Blossom tea, and is it offered at all your locations?

Does it aloud kids under 21 for breakfast?

Yes ! There were kids there when I was there !

Can we walk to this location from BART? How far?

Yes. It’s walkable. I’d suggest Powell station and walk up Powell street to Bush. 5 blocks.

Is the breakfast menu available all day?

Is the Secret Bar area open during breakfast hours as well?

    How is parking?

Like Latifa S. said, it's a gamble bc it's street parking. I opted to park at the garage near City Hall and walk the few blocks.…

Are the appetizers only on the dinner menu? I was thinking of coming for lunch but the lunch menu looks comparatively limited.

Do you have gluten free options?

I just went there this fall and yes they do! I got an omelet but the matcha pancakes were gf too!

    Do they offer vegan options?

    Are dogs allowed?

No - all seating is indoors.

    Do you have Outside seating?

    It's all indoor seating.

    Is afternoon high tea available?

    From their website: Available Monday-Friday (non-holidays) 12pm & 1:30pm…

    Do they accept single diners?

    Yes!

Is the sidewalk clean in front of the place?

    Yes!

Does Son and Graden have bottomless mimosa?

No they do not have bottomless mimosas.

We tried an Old Fashioned and the Third Rail cocktail, which was similar to a sour, and both were phenomenal. Seriously some amazing drinks. We didn't get a chance to try any of their jerky this time around, but we'll definitely be back for it!

When they removed my favorite Polar Bear-style drink from the menu, they were happy to let me bring over a fresh shot of espresso from the neighboring café so they could recreate it. Yesterday, under the new ownership, I was told I "technically can't" bring in an outside shot of espresso and that they couldn't make the drink. I understand businesses can change their policies, and that's their prerogative. What disappointed me was the way it was communicated. As a longtime, loyal customer, the interaction felt unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming rather than customer-focused. It's unfortunate because I've recommended this bar to many people over the years, but after today's experience, it doesn't feel like the same place.

Be sure to make a reservation! On a random Wednesday evening this place was VERY busy. Luckily I…read morewas able to make a reservation on Open Table for later in the day. We started dinner with oysters. They were fresh, clean and the beet chili jam sauce was very vibrant. It was a great combination of flavors. It's topped with fried shallots which adds a nice crunch to end off the bite. For dinner I had the uni amaebi donburi. It comes with ikura, sweet raw shrimp and uni. There was also a layer of what seemed to be finely processed mushrooms under the ikura which added a nice texture. The egg yolk added a richness and creaminess throughout the dish. It is a very rich dish so I didn't mind that it was what others described as a smaller portion. I'd definitely stop in again for dinner with friends.

I've been here several times since their first opening and through their numerous cup changes. I can say the matcha is consistently good, and glad the cup size is bigger :) Matcha einspanner is great, the latte is not sweet and you can taste the matcha quality, milk proportions are just right. Einspanner cream is delicious too and a sweet treat paired with the latte, and topped with matcha powder.
