- One of the best places for Brunch in Bend. - The wait is usually long and they don't take reservation so plan to hang out in the front for 30-45 mins. - They have a cool cocktail bar on the side so you can grab a man-mosa while you wait (different fruit flavors too.. got the guava which was ehhh) - Everything on the menu was great. Bacon French Toast- two pieces of French toast, it was shaped like bagels dipped in an egg/milk mixture but tasted like regular French toast. The poached eggs were pretty good, but the lime hollandaise sauce was INCREDIBLE I never had anything like it, I normally don't like hollandaise but this had a lime flavor with zest of lime throughout the sauce. I dipped my toast in the house made raspberry preserves also poured lots of good syrup on my thick slabs of delicious bacon (which was cooked perfectly crispy without a lot of oil). Sorely disappointed in our breakfast. After reading all the rave reviews, I had expected at least an above-average meal. However, it was much below standard! I had the recommended egg Benedict over tomato, with spinach and bacon, side of sweet potato fries. The eggs were runny, the tomato clearly was not fully ripe and tasted like a cheap grocery store tomato, not a vine ripened tomato that I was expecting in full summer tomato season! The bacon was great. The sweet potato fries were cold and limp, I didn't even want to eat more than one of those. My son had the biscuit and sausage gravy, with eggs. Well, that biscuit would have made any cook cry in despair: it was a solid doughy "puck" instead of having a nice fluffy texture. The sausage was very very very sparse. And I ordered a hot tea, seriously, $5 for a tea??? Overpriced breakfast, overpriced experience and overrated by several stars on Yelp. Once we got past the mean driver who yelled "Go Home" because of our California plates - we enjoyed an AMAZING breakfast - I had the house scramble with eggs, kale , bacon, Brussel sprouts, mozzarella cheese. I will admit to being teased by one reviewer notes on the hot hippie waitresses - so was immediately taken aback when I discovered all the guys working the morning we stopped in. Nevertheless, lets just say my fiance and mom were happy with this development! The place has a great, warm groovy vibe. We were in town for a wedding, saw the plethora of Yelps, and were in the mood for a great breakfast. We were not disappointed - right down to the homemade bloody mary's. Service was friendly and super attentive. Welcomed right away and never felt like a burden---plus in my book. The wait was a bit long but we had a party of 10, so understandable. It was a beautiful sunny day and once we were seated, the ambience of the live music, happy faces, and smells of delicious food welcomed us. The server made sure to set up two umbrellas for us from the blaring sun, which made our outdoor table enjoyable. I've never been to a farm-to-table restaurant before and Chow was a great first experience. The food was DELICIOUSLY amazing. I ordered the Blackstone, taters, and the tomato bisque (soup of the day) and my husband ordered the pork belly sando and the shrimp and grits. EVERY single bite of every meal was juicy and flavorful from the first bite to the last. My favorite was actually my husband's shrimp and grits. I've never had grits before but boy, I think these are the best grits I'll ever have. Every entree we had tasted so fresh and homemade, which is definitely things you won't find in chain restaurants. This is a remarkable breakfast/lunch spot in Bend, offering some of the most local ingredients and easily the most interesting menu creations around. Other breakfast places like McKay or Victorian may master certain dishes, such as benedicts or whatnot, but Chow has the most unique and inspiring dishes. Their drinks are also rather unique. They have a variety of mimosas and other stiffer options, if the fit takes you. It's wonderful to sit on their deck during the summer, but their indoor seating is cozy and quaint. The staff is very good and attentive, as well as rather young and hip. Prices are on-par with it's competition, a nice treat once a month or so, I'd say. The food is very flavorful, and if you have any special dietary needs they are willing to accommodate. Amazingly good! My friends and I ate here for both weekend mornings during our stay in Bend. For each visit (having arrived around 9AM), we only waited at most 10 minutes for a table. If you had arrived after 9:30AM or closer to 10AM, you could expect a bit longer wait. We all ordered different dishes during each of our visits. The dishes were so tasty and if you like potatoes you should definitely order the side of potatoes. I ordered the Hopple Popple and the huevos rancheros for my breakfast entrees and both of them were the best I have ever had! Kind of a hipster joint, a 45 minute wait at 10 am on Sunday. I had the Huevos Rancheros ($11) which I thought was good and came with a choice of sides (i had the House Potatoes). My wife had the Thai Chicken Salad ($12) and said it was two thumbs up. I tried it & I agree, it was very good. My only non-positive notes are: a. Straight black coffee cost $3 & we used our own standard sized coffee mug b. the tables are too close to each other & there is very, very little aisle space. After being to Chow, the dry period is over. This place blew my mind, and my fiance agrees. We went on a Sunday at 10am. We did not have to wait long which was surprising. Some man asked us if it was our first time to Chow, we said yes, because we live in Redmond. He then asked us if we wanted to try the Bloody Mary and he came back with two decently sized samples. It was the best Bloody Mary I have ever had. Seriously. Plus it was around a 6 oz sample for each of us, no charge. That is how you take care of customers. Every item sounded amazing. I wanted one of everything. Many items included polenta or corn cakes. I thought this was a nice change of pace from the usual fixings. Our food was amazing. The Caesar was what my fiance ordered and I know I will get that next time. The two different sauces with eggs on a corn cake; it was just perfect. We've eaten here several times now, more in the summer than the winter. They have an adorable space - like a little house with local art on the walls, and a very nicely designed outdoor patio. It's waaay easier to get seating in the summer since they can utilize the outdoor space. We've had breakfast here a few times and much prefer it to the lunch/dinner, just because it seems to come out faster and hotter (we're early risers and it's less crowded early). They have creative takes on your regular breakfast staples, using local or non-traditional ingredients for a twist - like polenta, crab cakes, seasonal produce, flavored hollandaise, Asian and Latin spices, etc. I like it much more than my BF because he likes the regular boring breakfast staples, but I appreciate the variety. The breakfast potatoes are a little over seasoned for my tastes, but you can substitute other sides. They make a great bloody mary and their coffee mugs have so much character - they are made by a local ceramics guy. Prices are slightly more expensive than a standard breakfast place but they really try to use organic and local ingredients, which I happily pay a premium to support. Also they have lots of options for vegetarian friends. The reasons for docking one star is that sometimes the food comes out lukewarm or their timing is off. A couple times we've gotten everyone's dishes except one, and then it's all awkward; you feel bad eating when one person is starving and has no food. We had some trouble getting refills on coffee or water when it's crowded, and when we took my in-laws, we got a wrong dish and no one came by to check on us, so my MIL just ended up eating it. I felt bad since it was their first experience in Bend. Thankfully, she said it tasted good! read more

First of all, where in the hell can you go where they *juice* the vegetables for your bloody mary and top off the awesomeness with a blue cheese and bacon stuffed green olive and house pickled veggies? WTF? It should be illegal for a drink to taste this good. Now onto the food: OMG. The G man got a vegan surprise -- you can tel them if you want it sweet/savor/spicy/mild and they will send out a plate of goodness to your table. It.Was.So.Good. I had huevos rancheros sub tofu for eggs. The tofu was amazing as was the house-made ranchero sauce used to top-off the dish. Oh my goodness this place is phenomenal!! My mother and I had brunch at Chow a few days ago. The place was pretty busy (we were there at about 11am on a Thursday), but we were greeted by the staff right as we entered. My mother ordered some fabulous tea (Sweet Bee Tea?) and I got the "health kick" drink (kombucha tea w/ lots of other goodies). Both were delicious and refreshing! I couldn't stop smelling my mom's tea.... I got the scrambled eggs special with local eggs. You could just tell that the ingredients were fresh and organic. The dish overall tasted so much better than I had expected (and I have some high expectations). But the food seemed to be of a higher quality compared to most breakfast/brunch joints. Chow is delicious and accommodating. Their menu states at the top that food is their passion and that if you have dietary restrictions, let 'em know and they'll take care of the rest. That's great! The place is quaint, and busy as all get out. Many people have mentioned before that you'll have to wait. And indeed that's true. That being said, with people crammed in the tiny foyer, the attitudes from the (albeit friendly) wait staff are pretty much "get in and get out." I get it, high turnover means less wait, more customers, more cash ,etc I'm likely to show up there again to try out one of the many things that I didn't get to eat from the menu. There's a reason you'll find a 30-60 minute wait for brunch on a Sunday, and let me tell you it was worth every second. We arrived at 9 am in hopes of a small wait. They quoted us half an hour; not terrible when there is a walk-up bar to alleviate the anticipation during your wait time. Not to mention a great front patio with picnic tables, reading materials and ample coffee. There was a mishap (to no fault of their own) with the water line, which led to a longer wait time. The owner not only personally apologized to each patron for the delay, but handed out mimosas to ease the pain. We ordered the Eggs a la Caesar and gluten-free blueberry pancakes, which did not fail to impress. Their polenta was executed perfectly, which isn't always an easy find.
