First of all it's the pier you can't go wrong with most of these places. This place has been here for a long time...for as long as I can remember. Little quaint place nestled on the heart of the majority of the restaurants across this infamous strip. We went on a Sunday. We were a party of ten and had reservations to do the Alcatraz tour at 1. We arrived along the pier at 11:30. We followed the link provided by the cruise company to search for nearby parking. The first garage we tried was closed. Then we went to another parking lot almost directly in front of Pier 33 where we needed to be. So many open spots we were so excited and then we saw a bran new Chevy Suburban with it's back window busted out and it's owner just getting to the scene of the crime. That was enough to convince us we needed to find elsewhere to park, neither myself or sister wanted to come back to our cars broken into. So on the hunt we went. We past a few lots and it seemed someone was on a rampage and more cars broken into. We defintely did not want to park in the garage because we felt that was even worse. Then we came upon Boudin and the parking lot behind it. Seemed busy and there was an attendant on duty. So we parked and were told Boudin's and Chowder Hut validated 1 hour. So that is what solidified where we would come back to eat after our tour. Off we went. After about 3.5 hours and 9,000 steps we were all ready for some substantial grub! This place provides outside dining and there were a lot of shade so it was perfect. We ordered the following: 1. Chowder in a Boudin's sourdough bread bowl. This was creamy. My son and I absolutely love the soup soaked parts of that sourdough goodness. Although the flavor was there I felt there could have been more clams and stuff. It seemed as if there was so much potatoes in it. I probably should have opted for the crab chowder to ensure I got my fill of seafood. I don't even think there was clams in my portion unless they minced them :-(. $11 2. 2 Wharf Burgers. 1 for my husband and the other for my son. They were pretty large in size and filled with lettuce and tomatoe on top of a bed of fries for $12 was decent. 3. Garlic Fries: my eldest son is doing a vegetarian thing on most days. So all he wanted was garlic fries and the lid to my chowder bread bowl. 4. Calamari: I didn't realize the calamari came on a bed of fries or else I wouldn't have ordered an extra side. The calamari was crispy and well battered. Totally hit the spot. All in all I paid $68, which was udner what I had expected. Someone walks around sweeping and cleaning up so it's maintained. There is also a restroom in the back and this place does validate. You just give them your ticket and they stamp it. Here is what kind of irritated me. When we asked the parking attendant if we could get our parking validated he said yes, because it's posted that it's $12/hr. We had parked there a little over 4 hours. When we went to pay before walking back to our cars the machine was registered $60 so we called the same attendant over whom stated after 4 hours it didn't matter whether you got your pass validated or not. My partner and I arrived at around noon on a Friday to eat some food here, so upon our arrival the service we had gotten was fast and friendly. We shared a single entree together since we weren't really too hungry. We finished our meal in about 15 minutes and then started our horribly long wait to leave. My party and I were getting impatient as we had other things to do that day so I took the initiative to stand up and ask another waiter where my card and receipt is since we had to go. This waiter, whom was bald and had glasses cuts me off to say that his "buddy will help me". He continues to tell me to "sit down and relax" and that "the service will be a lot more slower than I will be used to since it's so busy". At this point I feel furious and embarrassed. I look over to see our original waiter making 4 drinks behind the bar instead of returning my card and tab to me. My card was left out on the counter, susceptible to anyone taking it!!! The service was unfriendly and my party was simply forgotten about. Came to San Fran for the views, the beach, the chowder and to get out of the Sacramento valley and the walls of my house. I've never been so excited to take a a little road trip in search of some good clam chowder! I will say it was weird to see Pier 39 and that surrounding area with so few people but it was really nice! We walked across the street toward the water and found some benches to sit and eat our grub. The chowder was pretty good plus they actually gave us the sourdough bread bowls separate so the bread wouldn't get soggy. The calamari was a generous serving that came with fries. They also provided ketchup and tartar sauce. I enjoyed this meal immensely! This little restaurant/hut is located right behind the Fisherman's Warf sign. There's two sides to this place. One is more of a order at the window and find a seat. And the other side has a full bar, fire pits, and tv's. So if you're looking a quick bite or have a few drinks with some friends then this is the place to go. I go recommend checking out the bar side because they have a happy hour from 3pm-5pm of food and drinks. I actually stopped by there three times in a span of five hours. The clam chowder bowl inside the sour dough bread was amazing! We ordered multiple bowls. The service is fast and friendly with many seating options. This place is lacking in a major way. For this place to be in the heart of a tourist area one would assume you would get top not quality. But then again this tourist hot spot can be a price gouger. I ordered the crab chowder. It was flavorful! But lacked crab. Typically I'll go get a cup of fresh crab from across the way and add it into my chowder bowls for this very reason. Came to the city for a weekend away from our typical warm weather, and ate here every day we were here. Quick and friendly service, kick ass chowder, close to our hotel, couldn't be beat. We all got tired of strolling down Embarcadero so we opted for a sit down restaurant instead of the food stalls around the Wharf. At the entrance, there was a display sample of the goodies they offer here. We checked the price and thought it's reasonable enough to treat us all with more than a clam chowder. Altogether we feasted on a Hotdog, Burger, Fried Shrimp and of course, Clam chowder. It's a self-serve restaurant where you place your order in a window, pay and wait until your order number is called. Order didn't take long. I do feel like it is a bit of a touristy trap with the soup tasting like any other regular clam chowder I've had. Walked in excited to try some San Francisco seafood with my family for the first time, but the excitement was quickly gone after we made contact with the SINGLE staff member on the floor, which I will refer to as Tweedle Dee because of his bald round stature. I asked if we seat ourselves which he replied rudely "yes just sit wherever" and then immediately bumped into me walking past. We sat confused for about 5-6 minutes until he finally brought over menus and walked away again. The menus do not say what comes with each meal, or the price for drinks. After the second time we asked what a certain meal came with, he started rolling his eyes. When we asked how much a drink was he replied "uhh, I don't know. Maybe like $4 or something". The food was super expensive and tasted very bland. After paying we saw ourselves out, no goodbye or farewell or thanks for coming from anybody.
