For a place within the wharf, it is not too bad of a place to visit! The place may look a little bit sketch, but the food is pretty good! Although finding seating can be a little rough, it is not usually as packed as other places around the wharf. There is not a lot of cover from the sun depending on the time of day and there are a lot of birds around, so be prepared to fight some adventurous pidgins. However, I don't mind too much as someone who has eaten street food in the Philippines. Besides, they got some sick street performers nearby so you get to hear that too. As for the food, it definitely carries my rating! It is a solid 4/5 all around and even sometimes a 5/5 based on the price. The portion size is definitely filling, the calamari and fish n chips heal the inner child within me, the crab appealed to my inner Filipino with the immense amount of garlic and butter (obviously an exaggeration it's pretty good), and one of my favorite clam chowder spots. read more

Came here since I was exploring the pier and the crab chowder sounded interesting and I do love bread bowls. However, I was left feeling disappointed. The crab chowder was average with very little crab flavor and the sourdough bread was so dry and stale. I could not eat much of the bread. Service: We were seated right away despite it being very crowded on Labor Day weekend, because we were a party of 2. Service was quick and efficient! Chowder Hut is located near Boudin, a touristy location that I would consider the standard for clam chowder bread bowls. I visited Chowder Hut with a friend to try their clam chowder bread bowl, fish and chips, and spicy fish sandwich - both with garlic fries. The clam chowder was a big disappointment and tasted quite bland. The bread bowl was on the same level and only edible with the clam chowder. The fish and chips were on the blander side, which is rare since I usually think restaurants tend to have heavy hands with seasoning. Most of it tasted fishier than I had expected, though bearable with lemon and sauces. The garlic fries were thankfully good, though one could only eat so much of those. The best part was the display case of food towards the front so that you could know exactly what you were getting - appearances only of course, because the taste wasn't as good as one would have expected. read more

I went there a couple days ago (9/18/25 at 4:24pm) in SF and was exploring Fisherman's Wharf. There were other restaurants around that section but I noticed this restaurant. Little did I know I was stepping into a bad experience there. I was greeted by this nice lady outside with a microphone as she was saying explaining to the public that it was happy hour and advertising what kind of food they had there. The food pictures looked promising as well. The location was pretty nice too with nice outdoor seating. The service besides the nice lady at the beginning was not good. There was a man that was working the registers that WOULD NOT take my order as he was super busy talking to the lady employee with the microphone. He would not stop talking as I was waiting in line. I was the only one waiting outside and it felt pretty awkward waiting for him to finish up his story. Even the lady employee was trying to stop him so he can help me with my order but he just kept going. She kept backing up so I could go and order but he just kept talking and talking. I stood there for a minute in silence just waiting. After she insisted that I can go ahead and order, the man stopped talking and looked at me in disgust as I came up to the window to order. It looked like he was pretty mad that he didn't get to finish his story. I went up to him and his gave me an eye roll and he straight out just said, "what do you want?" in a rude manner. I was taken aback and stared back but just continued to be nice and respectful. I told him want I wanted a spicy fish sandwich and he just plopped the credit card swipe scanner right in front of me with attitude. I was still just stunned at his behavior. He didn't even really input the information on it and didn't really help me when I was having problems with the card swipe scanner. He just stood there stared at me. I hit a couple buttons and it went through and he immediately snatched the scanner and gave me a receipt without saying anything else and went back to go and talk to the other employees in the back. Oh man... I literally felt like I wanted to get a refund and go to another local restaurant right across the street who was happy for me to be there. I didn't get his name unfortunately but his description was a mid-30s man, Indian or middle-eastern descent, he wore bandana or a hairnet and he had a couple earrings. Apparently a police officer came around and talked to him as if they knew each other and I guess the employee had a brother or twin brother that worked around the area in the food industry as well that the police officer knew. That's basically all I could give with descriptions of this male employee. The sweet Hispanic lady with the microphone was Donna or Debra... or a name that started with the letter D. She was really nice and kind unlike the male employee at the register. As for the food review, the spicy fish sandwich was 3/10. Price was $20.10 or so for a fish sandwich with a handful of fries. Not much fries to be exact. The fish was super bland and not seasoned. Had to eat a lot of ketchup to at least get some flavor. The coleslaw in the sandwich wasn't very good either. The seasoning and dressing on it felted watered down. Terrible terrible choice of food. I should have left right when I was getting bad looks from the male employee at the register. If there as a half star, I would give it a half star for the terrible service and unprofessional behavior. I work with customers and clients all day as I am a barber and I can tell you those employees are lifeless and don't care about those coming in for a bite to eat. Only one the was very nice to me was the Hispanic lady employee outside with the mic treating me like a human being. SHE WAS THE ONLY GOOD OF THAT EXPERIENCE!!! Please don't go here unless you get off on employees being rude to you! If you see a talkative man working the registers, AVOID HIM AT ALL COST! GO AND ORDER INSIDE WHERE THE BAR IS! read more

It was just okay. Prices the same as similar nearby but the food definitely wasn't as good, so it felt overpriced. Most obvious room for improvement is the bread for the sourdough bowl, it wasn't warmed and would have been a lot better that way! I would have loved to give more stars, but unfortunately, I cannot because of the terrible service we received during our dine-in experience on August 13, 2025, during happy hour. When we arrived, there was only one bartender and one server, which I understood and didn't mind. However, as soon as we walked in, they completely ignored us no greeting, no acknowledgment. The place wasn't busy at all; most people were just waiting for their bills. We ended up going to ask for menus ourselves, trying not to bother them so they could be ready for our order. Still, the server was extremely rude and ignored us again when we approached her. After about 10 minutes, it was already 5:50 PM, and we were worried our happy hour order wouldn't be placed in time. We then went to the bar to ask for menus, but the bartender was also rude, telling us to "go back and sit down" before we could even finish asking if we would still get the happy hour price if the time passed. Not long after, a white family came in, and the server immediately greeted them with a smile and gave them full menus while she only brought us three menus for a party of six. We stayed only because the clam chowder is good. Five minutes later, the bartender came to take our order but kept interrupting us rudely and showed no friendliness at all. We did get the happy hour price, but the crab chowder was too sweet, the fish portion was small, and the chips were mediocre. When we finished eating, the bill didn't come, so I went to the bar to pay. The bartender threw the black bill envelope toward me and pointed to the tip percentages for me to add. I declined and put zero. When I asked for a receipt, he grabbed both copies, ripped them up, and walked away without a word. Our total bill was $179, plus over $6 automatically added as a service percentage. The place is clean, and the clam chowder is good, but the service was horrible, and the staff were rude and unprofessional. I left feeling disrespected and discriminated against. read more

This is a great option to grab a quick bite to eat while you're strolling around Pier 39 and its nearby destinations. Not sure if we were hungry or it's a really delicious sandwich (prob both), but I recommend getting the crispy fish sandwich...there's also a spicy option for those who enjoy that. Flavorful, fresh and pippin hot. I love how they add pickles to the sandwich....guess that's my new found love now....adding pickles to fish sandwiches. The clam chowder in a bread bowl is a San Francisco staple...you gotta get it! Perfect for a cold, chilly day and let's face it, that's the typical weather here in SF. 4 stars for a "fast food and relaxing atmosphere". We wanted something quick but also wanted to sit rather than street food so we tried this place. The glass walls def help with keeping the wind down but still be able to see the view and be outside. And walking in there are fire pits to sit by. We go hot dogs and chili since it was a little chilly outside. I asked for chili on my hotdog and they accommodated. The hotdog has a lot of meat to it. Fries were pretty good. Crispy and tasty. The chili does have beans in it just fyi. We also got lemon drop drinks which were actually really good and refreshing but small. read more

The chowder is served in a hollowed out sourdough bread basket that's filled with delicious goodness. It has good flavor and is seasoned perfectly. The portions are generous and priced according. My only critique is the amount of clams used in the chowder was much less than I'm accustomed to. Fish a chips decent. Fried shrimp. Good. Clam chowder? I've had better around this area. Calamari?? Don't waste your money. Although large in size no flavor at all. Not exactly what I expected. You order at a counter, seat yourself. And they call your number once your food is ready. They have an area to get silverware and napkins. There is a large pitcher there to pour your own water. Food - it was really good! I ordered fried calamari (forgot to take a pic!!!) but a FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! For 16.99, there were more fries than the calamari!! But that calamari was really good! My girlfriend and I were eating here and she spit out a broken piece of sharp plastic out of her fish and chips!!! Her throat she said felt scratched and she threw it up The manager was hostile and rude, at first I went up to get my refund for the whole order , but she only did half the order.. which was confusing as I didn't have the appetite to eat anymore.. So I went back she kept insisting that I needed the receipt which I had thrown away.. I finally got the other half refunded after much going back and forth. Highlights: They have a menu window where you can actually see the dishes on their menu before you order. I thought the Grilled Fish Tacos were ok. Unlike a lot of other places, there's ample seating which is great. Lowlights: Really long lines. The Fish and Chips had so much batter. After having a nice dinner from Sabellas, we decided to sit here by the fire and enjoy a nice Irish coffee and some hot chocolate for the kids. It's really nice with the Adirondack chairs, plenty of room for the kids. It's definitely windy and cold, however the fireplace just makes it so enjoyable. Franco was the bartender, and he took care of us really quickly and he seemed very nice. What we ordered: 5 x Hot chocolate 2 x Irish coffee Extra Bailey's Irish cream to add to the coffee. This is really a target place for us now. Comfortable seating, lots of room, the prices are OK for downtown San Fran at the wharf. They have a full bar and that makes for some good cocktails while we watch the kids play. We will definitely be back here again read more
