Terrible experience. Terrible customer service. Mid food. It's run by workers who clearly don't care about customers. I waited 34 minutes for a simple order of 1 beef rice bowl and 1 siopao. While others who ordered after me and who just entered that ordered A LOT of items too were given their orders first! One customer was also ignored when they got the wrong type of siopao and said " you should pay attention to your customers" while the cashier gave no reaction. There was no accountability and no reaction from the employees that's clearly unbothered by their incompetence and communication skills to deal with it. It's not about the time I waited that upsets me the most, it's how they (NOT) handled it. Just straight faces. Once i see that my order was ready the girl i've been reminding of my order did not pay attention to it and worked on other orders! Here's what we ordered to-go: - 1 x Chinese-style chicken meal: 2 pieces of chicken (drumstick & thigh) and white rice - 2 x Taho (hot): Be sure to specify if you want the hot or cold taho when you order Here's my take on the items ordered: - Chinese-style chicken meal: My first time trying this and I liked it. The fried chicken breading was delightfully crackly and crunchy throughout each bite. The rice made me all warm and fuzzy inside since I don't eat white rice much anymore. - Hot Taho: All the elements of good taho are present and accounted for; tofu, pearls and sweet syrup. The tofu was a bit clumpy and could be much more softer. So I was able to satisfy my craving, but it was nowhere near as awesome as the hot taho I last had from a random street peddler in the Philippines. I also got to try the fried chicken here and enjoyed it. I usually get suckered into coming here whenever I visit Seafood City so I'm sure to be back. My family has been coming here since they first opened. The menu changes quite often but the food is always good. There are some old favorites that I miss dearly like the old shrimp chips, but they're always dependable on dishes that I keep coming back to like longsilog, shumai, siopao, and wonton soup. It can get really busy around mealtime rushes, especially if a giant family walks in and orders ahead of you, but this is Mira Mesa and that is the norm around here - families travel in packs and I love it! You'll place your order, get a buzz-key to alert you when it's ready, and there is plenty of seating inside. Go ahead and walk around Seafood City while you're waiting! Even though I'm Filipino I've never ever once in my life liked nor craved Halo-Halo, that is until yesterday. I've just never been a fan of the beans and gelatin in it. I would always just eat the ice cream, leche flan part and sip on the milk LOL. Since it was a hot weekend, I thought I might as well give Halo-Halo a chance haha. I originally meant to go to Red Ribbon next door for Halo-Halo but their line was super long and the employee there told me the wait would be about 15 minutes. I decided to just go elsewhere and luckily Chowking next door sells the same thing for the same price of $4.99. The halo-halo tasted pretty good, and the beans weren't bad. I would make it at home but I never really eat this stuff so a one time treat is just right for me. I've been to Chowking several times over the years. I prefer Jollibee but ever since it closed down in Mira Mesa this is the closest you'll get unless you want to make your way down to National City. Thankfully Jollibee is opening up shop again in Mira Mesa soon. Overall though, Chowking isn't terrible. It's not a first choice Filipino food place but it's reasonably priced and fulfills your cravings for cheap. read more

Another problem with reviewing when 3 stars is too much and 2 stars not enough. ChowKing is fast food the filipino way. Of course some of your favorites can be found if you grew up eating Filipino food. I have only tried several things some pass, some fail. I have had the pancit malabok, not enough toppings which is what you expect on fast food. I tried the taho and that was something better than I expected. I also have had the siopao and unfortunately, this fails. Not enough filling. I might as well buy bread. My sister used to get something similar in a chinese bakery in Chicago and that was much better. Overall, maybe its 2 1/4 stars, the 2 stars for the taho and the convenience. 1/4 stars to actually have other choices which I need to try nxt time. By the way the crazy guy who ripped Jollibees, I don't mind a bad review but describing people by what they eat at or eat, then he should look in the mirror and see the crap most people eat at American fast food (KFC, McD, BK etc). Chicken smelled great and had fantastic crunch that literally drilled oil down your cheek and onto your popping Santa Cruz Tie Dye Shirt!! Chicken is poppin, Lumpia could be better. Worth a shot if you want something different and are in the area. First time at this location. Comimg from Fresno we always order siopao (steamed bun with meat) preferably asado before we go home. The place was very busy it was around 3pm. There was a few empty tables that were empty but dirty. There was no trashes near by so they strays were left on the tables. I'm assuming the workers would clean up the tables but none of the tables were clean. I ordered 6 siopaos and waited about 20mins. The workers were okay not no of them smiled. This restaurant is a blend of Filipino/Chinese cuisine where everything is made when you order. My usual order is the beef tapa with eggs and rice.. and sometimes I get bangus (milkfish). The chewy tapa is marinated and flavored pretty well, mmmmmm! They also have a variety of other food depending on what you're craving. There is also casual seating for those you prefer to dine in. We have been here a couple of times and I have no complaints about the food. Service has been good until today happened (6/24/23). At around 6:10 in the evening we placed our orders and the cashier was nice. Things started to get interesting when the manager for the shift came to the front and started ordering staff around all annoyed. She then started waving rudely at a couple customers demanding them to pick up the order that was at the counter but nobody moved to take it because we were all saying "no that order is not ours". At 6:20 she yelled that us customers should be going to the counter and should be telling her the order number instead of just standing around because she has "no voice" (I think she meant she was having throat troubles). It's unfortunate that she isn't well, possibly sick (uh oh) and seemingly overwhelmed. It is just about as unfortunate as getting yelled at by a restaurant manager and getting ordered around like we all clocked in as her subordinates. I'm still gonna order Chowking but word of warning, prepare to feel like you have to start working the shift. read more

I know it sounds like a lot of fried items but it reminds me of childhood memories growing up that I like to indulge every few months. It is typical fast food and the service is slow and the place seems barely clean enough to eat there comfortably.
