Once upon a time I was obsessed with Chris's white borscht. But prior to 2025, it'd been nearly a decade since my last visit, so I was hesitant. Would it hold up, or was the disappointment inevitable? I'm happy to report that I've returned twice this year, and the white borscht is still as delicious as I remembered. It's warm, comforting, and a little tart, with slices of smoky, meaty kielbasa and hard-boiled eggs. You can get a 12-ounce "cup" or 16-ounce "bowl," and I like opting for the latter so I can bring the rest home and make it last a little longer. For other standouts on the menu, their fried cheese and potato pierogis are great, with a decent amount of filling and perfectly caramelized onions on top. The sour cream's a must, though I hate that it was an extra 75 cents. Their platters are also hearty and can easily be split into two portions. You can't go wrong with the flavorful Polish platter, which features stuffed cabbage, kielbasa, hot sauerkraut with meat (my mouth is watering just thinking about this), and three pierogis. I was craving pierogies and found this restaurant and they didn't disappoint! It wasn't packed at all but the food was good! The ambiance is classy and it also has a bar so it has a real authentic Polish vibe. Our waitress was very friendly and answered any question we had about their menu. Yesterday I went with my coworker to feel the quiet ambiance and to eat tasty. Ambiance is great. Service also is great, but food...Currently, the restaurant is on the level of middle level buffet with restaurant prices, with ready French fries from pockets from store, not even fried well. My friend ordered an orange juice. But there was so many ice cubes, that only the color reminded about orange juice. I asked to exchange the mushroom garnish with French fries, but waitress said that it is impossible. Though, it is a very simple operation in any restaurant! Therefore, I paid twice for garnish. The staff and manager started yelling at my party when I complained about being over charged. I was charged for more wine than the party drank and for a cake they took out of a box and put candles on. The cake was taken out of my car after dinner. I cut and served the cake myself. Waitress would not even cut the cake for me to put in a take away box. When we asked for the leftover cake to be cut and boxed she said "no" and only gave my party boxes with no bags When I said, I will not be returning to my table party. For example, between a friend and myself a few nights ago, we had 3 glasses of wine, two beers, and one meal. The total cost came to $40.81 after tax and before tip. In terms of typical New York dining prices, I almost consider that a bargain. I really want to give this restaurant 5 stars. I know they can't do much to change their small dining area, how busy they get, or the occasional closure due to a private event. I've been here once a few years ago and visited again recently since this is one few places that open late-ish around the neighborhood. For those trying to seek refuge from the heat, this place has decent ac. To start off, I had the cold red borscht topped with dill. Sweet, sour and most importantly, COLD, perfect for the summer. I had the Chris chopped steak (for those who don't know what chopped steak is, it's basically a big patty of hamburger meat) with kasha, mixed veggies and beet on the side. The chopped steak was buried under the kasha and they both went well together as the chopped steak was salted well. I had a bit of the Chris pork loin which was decent, but the big strips of mushroom was really the highlight of that entree. The Polish platter was pretty much everything Polish food is all about. I liked the sausage, the pierogi, but I wasn't crazy about the cabbage.
